Salt in Norwich

Visited SALT sandwich bar and enjoyed two lovely sandwiches, a side salad, crisps, and drinks. The food was delightful, but the service was a bit slow. On both occasions, the manager or owner appeared quite stressed. Despite that, it's a good place with a stunning interior.

Really lovely aesthetic restaurant with really nice tea and hot chocolate! The staff were really nice too!

Full disclosure this is being written before I’ve even eaten the sandwich I just bought but my review is on the experience of buying it. I just literally walked out of Salt just now. There’s 8 people sitting inside and one lady working. I ask how the lady is who’s serving and she replies with “what can I get you?” Ok. Fair enough maybe she didn’t hear me. However I can tell she’s flustered and rushed and doesn’t want to chat so I have no opportunity to stall why I look at all the options available and out of fear of wasting any more of this precious persons time - I just ordered the only sandwich I’d seen in the window that I can remember. Now I’m standing back waiting for my sandwich to be made and I can finally look at all the options and see what I would really have liked to order if I’d had the time to look. The atmosphere was tense and unpleasant as she rushed and clattered around. I took my sandwich and left.

Small and intimate setting. We highly recommend the goat cheese sundried tomato and avocado bagel . Salads amazing chickpeas and cous cous with mint and lemon . Will definitely come back .

Yum! Harissa chickpeas, sweet potato smothered in some minty green concoction and halloumi to die for, all for £13. Really generous portion and more than enough for a healthy, filling main meal. I’ll be back!

So cosy with nice music and food (sandwiches and salads). Got a sandwich to takeaway and it was delicious! Service was friendly and warming.

The food here is good, just not worth £9! There is some amazing sandwiches here, however for a sandwich, drink and crisps it’s £9 and I would say this is pretty expensive for what it is. The sandwiches can also be a bit dry because they are made throughout the day and left behind the counter. The service is okay and we couldn’t eat in because they close pretty early.

A lovely place to sit and have lunch. A bit more info/signage about the salads would be helpful!

We came back here again after always having the most amazing sandwiches. We took advantage of the meal deal, which comprised of a sandwich, crisps and a soft drink and we weren’t disappointed. The bread that encased the filings was great and the combination of fillings was really good too. We will definitely be back.

Amazing food! Salads are all made with incredible spices giving so much flavour. One of the best I’ve ever had! Will be returning very soon!

Food and ambience was just right ..food was of good quality

Lady serving was very indifferent. Wasn't bothered if we ate there or not...made no effort to offer us anything not already made and in the window. Unfortunately didn't get the chance to actually try any of the food.

Had an excellent array of sandwiches here over the years. Always using high quality flavoursome ingredients. A great lunch spot any day of the week!

Why do cafes insist on leaving their fresh products in the window to dry out? The bagel was dry, not a lot of salmon and cream cheese filling, for £9 with crisps and a drink. Got a flat white as well, milk was not well steamed so it was a bit burnt tasting and I wouldn’t normally complain about this sort of thing but there was no saucer so the spoon was neatly placed on the sticky wooden table I was sitting at, not very appealing.

What a wonderful little spot not far from the cathedral! Reasonably priced and delicious coffee and amazing selection of bagels and salads. Also absolutely love the aesthetic and has plenty of space to sit in.

Food was fantastic - we ordered 2 sandwiches, both were delicious, tasty and made with great bread. The place is calm and the vibe was perfect for a slow Sunday morning. The staff was lovely - only 1 person taking ordered, ser ING food and making coffee - they were very kind and kept the place spotless. Highly recommended for a savory morning start.

Really delicious breakfast with a vegan options as well. And easily the best matcha latte in town!

Norwich has so many lovely cafes to visit and Salt is one of them. We only had coffee and tea but they were very good. The place looks lovely and it is well worth a visit.

Very fatty bacon in a sanwich, not edible, beef in a sandwich was hard, coffe was good, place was nice inside but sandwiches not

The sandwiches and salads were great (although there was a lot of brocolli stalk in my salad that I just couldn't cut!) succotash was the star - really delicious. Service was friendly and relaxed, music was a bit too loud to talk over easily but I'm probably older than the average person there...

OK, online pictures seem, to me, showing a much larger place and a more varied menu. I couldn't eat mine as far to spicy and my friend got fed up with eating so many chickpeas. Not for us, sorry.

What a fantastic place. Visiting from Hampshire and popped in on Sunday morning. 4th Sept 22 Was a small breakfast l was looking for but had a selection of Aubergine Sweet potato and Tabbouleh how refreshing and different. FABULOUS THANKS 😊

Good to get out of the rain to shelter in the pleasant company of the hosts. Plenty on offer, went for the tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwich. Superb soup but standard white bread and cheddar toasty. One piece of crisp cheese on wholemeal toast with some onion and paprika would have been better. Just looking at what else was on offer you'd know that it wouldn't have been impossible! The same person runs the cake shop next door which was total heaven!

Our first visit but won't be our last, what a lovely atmosphere and environment to dine in. Absolutely charming staff, very professional and efficient, even when faced with a "surprise" booking. Delicious food, delivered very promptly. (N.B Would have been 5 stars, but for the booking mix up.......)

I’m a new resident to Norwich and was bombarded by a plethora of tasty cafe options but this gem well the food in the window lured me in…exciting varied salads looking like something out of a food magazine and then innovative combos of gourmet sandwiches which served extensively the veggie community but I think didn’t exclude those adamant for meat. Everything is made from scratch and it shows. The decor and atmosphere matches the food and you can tell attention has been made to the music choice too. I was only in there for a quick bite (Toasted ciabatta with veggie sausage, alioli and rocket - divine!) but others were making an occasion of it meeting others and sharing bottle of wine over salads, platters etc…and it felt that nice hybrid of posh cafe/casual restaurant. I think it’s the sister place for the savoury (hence I guess the name “Salt”)to Figbar next door (which by all accounts has the most divine cakes/desserts) so I’m excited to try something from there next!

I really hate writing negative reviews (havent at all on Google up until now) but having been to Mysabar this evening I have to say that this has to be one of the most disappointing eating out experiences ive ever had. Ordered the Chilli and Beef Shin Raclette and it was frankly just mac and cheese with a 2mm deep chilli at the bottom. Beef was practically non existent. Id be OK with this as literal "street food" (this term is very loosely used these days IMO) for a fiver or so but £11 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) for this is hideously overpriced. A friend had the Xmas Raclette the week before and said it was significantly better than this. A bit of a shame really, wish id ordered that. *** Disclaimer - if ive got the wrong SALT here please comment and ill remove this ***

The aubergine dish was delicious. Everything looked homemade with care. Good coffee too. Nice décor. Helpful and quick service.

Happened upon this place and were tempted in by the wonderful salads in the window. Opted for the Cajun sweet potatoes and happy to say it tasted every bit as good as it looked! Absolutely delicious, thankyou guys.

Great lunch spot. Excellent sandwiches made with really good bread. Nice choice of super tasty salads and other dishes. Enough choices of things for a meat eater and great ones for non meat eaters. It is a small space but for now seems to be more of a place locals know about so I have never had a problem getting a table. Friendly staff and decent service. Order at the counter and then grab a table.

We had the marinated halloumi and a beef bagel. So many nice things on the menu that the choosing was difficult. The owner has a great deal of knowledge about Norwich and is so pleasant. A lovely place to pass your lunch time.

Great decor, superb staff and what a range of dishes. Vegetarian meets mainstream dining but this is not simply a vegetarian venue; steaks and more support the fabulous made from scratch salads and tarts all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether its a snack, a lunch or even a sandwich to go this is a gem in the heart of the fine city of Norwich

Delicious food, some very unusual dishes and most welcoming, hospitable staff.

I'm not Veggie but the Harrisa roasted Aubergine looked to good to pass up. Had a mixture of 3 dishes. Very reasonably priced. Overall a lovely place with nice decorative touches like the trees used as a screen.

Great alternative food for a different lunch

Absolutely delicious food in a great location. Restaurant is stylishly relaxed and service is welcoming. Wish they’d open a branch in Bristol!!

Cannot believe they only take card payments. However, they are happy to take tips on cash. We will not be visiting again.

Delicious sandwiches and salads!

The first day of our "not going on holiday, holiday" and breakfast in Salt did not disappoint. Good coffee, tasty fruit, yogurt and granola, followed by indulgent pastries. All accompanied by great service from Alex. Thank you.

We were looking for a new place to have a quick lunch. My wife had been here before and said it was good and I agree she wasn’t wrong. As soon as we walked through the door we were welcomed by the owner, I think? We ordered a sandwich each.. a rare beef and horseradish and a roast pork and stuffing, the description doesn’t do them justice - they were jaw breaking and crammed with delicious fresh ingredients. We sat down and our order arrived 2 minutes later, with two pots of very nice tea. The place was warm clean and busy with an eclectic bunch of customers. Will definitely go again and try the lovely salads they had in offer (and maybe just share a super sandwich).

A great choice for a relaxed Saturday lunch, or indeed any other time. The food - beetroot soup with a cheese toastie and cauliflower cheese with a spicy sauce on the side that definitely complemented the cheese, plus two excellent salads - was inventive and delicious.

I must mention that the Mocha is by far the best I had! I can taste the richness of cocoa inside and that's amazing! The smoke tofu sandwich and eggplant were lovely and special too! Lovely to have such a great cafe here in Norwich ❤️

Here we opted for the salt beef and ham toasted sandwich. Along with the baked cod. Both were outstanding and were supplied at a competitive price along with a smile and side of banter. Lovely but limited alternative beer selection companied by a chilled laid back atmosphere. Would highly recommend for a cosy winter lunch. What a treasure of a find walking up into the city and wondering were to find lunch we saw in the window of SALT the most fabulous cooked salads were displayed thought for a moment were were in the mediteranean. We enjoyed 5 of the salads with the tofu option which were very filling and for a very reasonable price cant wait to be back in Norwich for more. Very good meal. Would highly recommend - the beetroot salad, sweet potato salad and the salmon. The salads are mini meals in their own right so not only enjoyable but filling. The carafe of wine also went down well. Unfortunately only open evenings on Fridays...

Stopped in by chance . Excellent unusual veggie plates. Maybe for the hungry offer some really good bread too .. but for us the 2 salad dishes for a £5 were crackingly good. We will be back

Went for a quick lunch with a friend after cycling past it the other day. The salads they had on show looked great, I saw they had a deal for 2 for £5 for lunch and thought that would be fine, but have to say...

I went here today with 3 family members. I have Coeliac disease and worry about eating out and how much choice I might get in a restaurant. No worries here.....superb choice of very enticing salads etc and the other 3 enjoyed their lunch too. Terrific!

We went by chance on the first day for lunch, it was unexpectedly busy. The food was great, right up my street, not expensive and served with a smile, I bet this place will be one of Norwich favorite very quickly!
