We are return visitors to the area and decided that we wanted to give this place a go after driving past many times. We are a family of four with two hungry boys and adults! It was a glorious day so we sat outside. We decided that we would just have mains and desert prior, so two of us ordered the fish and chips, my eldest ordered the burger, whilst my wife ordered the mushroom ravioli. The fish and chips were excellent, crisp batter and flaky fish and not a mean portion by any means, the chips were great as well and you could tell the oil was fresh it was fried in. The burger was full of flavour with a nice crisp outside and a generous helping of cheese with some nice crisp French fries and a lightly dressed salad. The mushroom ravioli, wow, I ended up having HUGE food envy of my wife’s plate!! Fresh pasta with a deliciously earthy mushroom filling and a wonderful sauce. Some of the best ravioli I’ve eaten to be fair! Desert was the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, it was delicious however a little light on sauce but forgiven due to the quality of the pudding. All in all a great success and we may even visit again before we leave! If you’re looking for some delicious food then please give this place a go.

We arrived late at 11.50, and the breakfast menu finished at 12.00. We asked if we were too late to order breakfast, and we were happily welcomed to take a seat. Lovely food, great fresh coffee, and a warm welcome. We would definitely visit again.

5 of us enquired about dinner here during a sailing trip. It was explained to us that were a limited number of tables and we should be there in good time. We did that, and enjoyed some good beers before ordering dinner from the charming and efficient young men on duty. The menu was not extensive but all the party enjoyed the starters and main courses they ordered. The highlight was the delicious large prawns, which some restaurants would have called langoustines. The desserts were fairly standard but the sticky toffee pudding was much praised. The view was good too.

Had a great time during our visit to the West Highlands. Came to the Restaurant for their annual Bonfire & Fireworks display, which was free. Home cooked Burgers & Hot-dogs were served for the display, then followed by an auction & raffle, where the proceeds raised go toward the local primary school. The bar is very cosy, and the family run atmosphere is great. Well worth a visit!

After a days walking on Ardnamurchan, and after having an excellent meal at the Salen Hotel a number of years ago, I was looking forward to having another meal there. The place was quiet (3 tables were in use), the blackboard behind the bar was full of specials which sounded nice, so it was looking good. However, the waitress informed us that it was residents and bookings only, as they were short of food. It seemed odd given the number of specials available, but was clear that they just didn't want to be bothered with us. She advised us to go to the Loch Shiel hotel, as they 'may' be able to help us, but she couldn't be sure. So we took her advice, went to the Loch Shiel hotel who were very happy to serve us with an excellent meal.

Went here for a meal after a busy day exploring the west coast of Scotland. Staff were very welcoming from the off and asked if we would like a drink in the bar before the meal or if we would like to go straight through. We went straight through and the menus were ready and waiting, we ordered and the food was out of this world, one of the best steaks I had ever had. The other meals in our party were nice aswell! Dessert was equally as nice! Would definitely go back!

Having survived some squally showers and a mixture of bright sunshine in the Sound of Mull and Loch Sunart, we moored at Salen in a rather drookit state🌦fourteen of us walking into the Salen Hotel was not a problem👍A warm welcome and delicious food served efficiently - thank you for such great west highland hospitality! Visiting this hotel is highly recommended😃

Lousy food. Overpriced. Had the seafood linguini which container ingredients not costing more than 3 pounds (yes, including the frozen seafood), charging a whopping 14 pounds plus! Bad, bad, worthless!!

Very attractive inn with tasty, freshly cooked food - burger with blue cheese was excellent. Attentive service, good value too. One small blip - they'd not received my email to confirm a reservation, and mentioned this to us a couple of times despite the place only being half full.

Taking a drive around the peninsula from our holiday base in Morar and found this hotel/pub on TA for lunch. It was surprisingly quiet for such a beautiful day, but it was mid week so to be expected at this tucked away place. The host (I guess the owner) was super friendly and welcoming and food and drink orders were quickly taken. We had a variety of dishes from the simple but fabulous fish and chips, to the pork belly which was pronounced delicious. Again, service was friendly and efficient and value for money was extremely good. Our host invited us to leave our car and suggested that we take the “alphabet” walk in the nearby woods which was gorgeous in the early spring sunshine (and also very good if you are Geocaching!). I highly recommend the Salen - top marks for hosting, food and location. As well as the hotel rooms, they have a self catering cottage adjacent which is really lovely. All in all, a tremendous find and I would definitely love to come back.

Wife and I did a Highlands tour in Scotland bit over a year ago. On our way back to Ft. William from Mallaig, I suggested we take a different way back...see what we find. What we found was the Salen in this perfectly charming loch location. No idea where we were exactly, but knew we were going to stop as it was dusk and it looked very inviting. Family run location, prompt/ attentive service (if I recall correctly, our server was owner’s nephew). Wife had beef, I had the fish and chips. Both very well done, with nice-sized portions. After dinner split dessert and a coffee at the bar. Not a terribly busy night so had a nice chat with owner at the bar. I just love, when traveling, stopping at small places like this. Not on the “main road” by any stretch, but well worth the stop...and as with so many small inns in the Highlands, good food at a fair price. Stop by if you’re looking for a nice respite when in the area.

We stopped here for a late lunch as we were exploring the Ardnamurchan peninsula along Loch Sunart (surely one of the wildest, most remote, fascinating and scenic drives in Britain: check out the "hide" at Garbh Eileen, "Rough Island" to see nesting herons and basking seals across the water) and were delighted by the location and the quality of the food. I had locally caught and house-smoked salmon with fresh salad, and my husband had the beer-battered fish and chips. The owner/chef even asked his preference for which beer to add to the batter! Everything fresh and delicious, somehow unexpected in this remote area.

We went for dinner as we were staying nearby. We tried earlier in the week but they were open to residents only so I called in on a Thursday morning and although I could go and wander around there seemed to be nobody at home, despite my calls. I phoned from the car park and did get through though so we booked for that evening. When we arrived the restaurant was deserted and we were shown into the bar which was also practically empty - not unexpected in February. The bottle of red wine we ordered was quite cold, but the friendly barman suggested putting it by the fire for a while.

We visited this hotel 3 years ago and had a wonderful meal so decided to try again. The manager managed to fit us in a corner although they were very booked and we decided to have the local large crevattes as a starter which were tasty and we both had a steak as the main meal as their was limited choice if you do not like Italian. the food was enjoyable but could have done with more specials to make use of local produce and the meal was not as good as our previous visit. Would have tried again if it had not been an hours drive to get their.

Very good food and typical Scottish decor. Service was very attentive and friendly. The chef knows his craft. The steak, for the non-fish eater, was a treat.

We went for takeaway before getting ferry to Stornoway. Ordered an egg roll and bacon and egg roll. On opening when we got to our car we could not believe how poor they looked. Toasted stake rolls, overdone fried eggs and overdone bacon. Will not go back to this cafe again!

Popped in here recently on a trip through Wick to Dunnet Head - Got a cheese & tuna toastie and a latte which were both excellent. Owners were really friendly and the price reasonable considering the location - Have a feeling they could charge 2/3 times the price - being on the NC 500 - but choose not to. Will certainly return.

Visited today and ordered 2 drinks and 2 steak pie dinners. Service was fine but we could not eat the food. The meat was inedible. We couldn't cut it never mind chew it. The young waiter returned it to the kitchen, returned to apologise and agrred with us. Then he said there will be no charge... ....... really. Why would we pay when we had no food. Left and went elsewhere.
