Always used to take my family to this place. Rice, meat, chicken... Whatever you order it's always on point and delicious. I love spice and their basbaas sauce does not disappoint. Not just a spicy sauce, but very flavorful. Unfortunately they have closed temporarily I hope they open again very soon.

Unhelpful when it comes to allergies, when asked about if the oils have nuts the man's answer is 'I don't know', they didn't have the original container oddly so I hope they're even in date! Don't trust this place if you have allergies, they don't know what's in their food!

Simply DELICIOUS! Somali food is truly excellent. Little known in France, you absolutely must try it, you will not be disappointed

This place is usually a go to to have a quick meal while in Coventry Road and usually full where we don’t bother to go in but their chicken wrap is so delicious that you just want to go back all the time. They have the best chilli green sauce that compliments the chicken really well, spicy and tangy yummy. My freind had to use the toilets and said it was not the best and didn’t recommend to use. I wish they would fix up this place as really has great potential

One of the best restaurants on Coventry Road, a great portion size for the price and the meat falls right off the bone. Not the cleanest place but the food makes up for it. Staff are friendly and the food comes quick as well.

Thieves. Ordered my food an hour ago then he calls to say we don’t have the food. I ask for a refund but he never sent it back. Had to get in contact with Uber eats a few hours later to get it!

Delicious food at a good price. The staff are very welcoming and bubbly. The owner was nice aswell and thanked us for coming. Will be back when I’m next in Birmingham

It's not lamb it's mutton I think, chicken was nice. It needs a sauce on the main dish bit dry. Not for me.

Sold 1 of the staff here a clone Brietling n had a munch on the house while i was there👌. Wasn't the brightest cleanest place but passable. Service..typical African lol but the customers brought a likl vibes so not too bad👍

The food was actually surprisingly nice! Especially the rice, meat was nice and tender and full of flavour. Maybe decorate the place make it cosier or more presentable

Have to say we decided to take a pun at this place, we were not disappointed it was lovely, we had a mixed platter and the rice was the best most tastiest rice I have tasted, good prices and staff were good and on point, they do. It accept card but have got their bank details up for a bank transfer, will be returning

Delicious Food, really enjoyed as a Pakistani. Would definitely get food from here again. Wouldn’t say suitable for women as it seemed as there were loads of men there, however they have curtains behind seats so you’re covered from them :)

Chicken steak is delicious served on bed of rice and pasta, the rice is simple in flavour and has a potatoe and veg srew poured on the sides. The food is wholesome and fresh, the lamb mindi was extremley salty although i had it on a second occasion and it was cooked perfect. Prices are fair and portion sizes are large. Biggest let down is the hygiene of this place, furniture is not clean and requires major renovation, window sills are dirty and attention is not given to proper deep clean.

Well what can I say. I was pleasantly happy with the platter for 2. The rice was fresh and flavourful. Chicken well seasoned and tasty. Lamb was soft and wholesome. I generally don't really like spaghetti but my friend did. As a Pakistani male who enjoys all types of food I was very impressed by the food and could have eaten another platter due to the taste. Only major criticism I can suggest is the location due to poor parking but we'll worth the drive and walk. 5 stars for me.

Food is amazing, tasty and filling. The biggest let down is cleanliness. Ok for men but not good for family due to not clean enough.

Food was awesome and arrived hot. I dont recommend eating inside as the restaurant was a little dirty inside. (Especially the radiators!) The joint needs a little clean so overall 4 stars.

Good points: - Good customer service, friendly and accommodating - Facilitated an area for me to pray in one of the empty booths - Booths for privacy - Competitive pricing - Good portion size Bad points - Decor old and needs a deeper clean in some areas - Only accept cash (there is a free cash point less than 5 mins walk away) - Food was cold We ordered the platter for 2. Overall wouldn't come out my way to come here again but would be open to coming and trying something different. Main let down was the cold food.

Asked for chicken steak and rice as dont wat lamb at all ended up with a massive lamb bone in my food noy happy drove about 7 mile for this food

I can’t rate them enough. Very friendly. There’s no actual menu so I didn’t know what to order but they actually showed me their dishes and decided to get a bit of everything. I loved the cuisine and the food was very delicious. Would highly recommend. Good seating space. The service I got and their friendliness is what makes this a 5/5 experience. It’s a busy street and parking can get tricky. I got on street parking so it depends on the time of the day you’re visiting.

I tried this place out for the very first time as I wanted to try Somali/Yemeni food something different from another culture. I was very impressed as it was like a proper homemade cuisine. We had rice, lamb, small lamb pieces, thin chicken breast/thigh pieces, stew, all on top of the rice. Similar to our Asian food but less Spicier. The portion was really big as well. We had it between three and were fill at the end. A proper vibe inside from a traditional Somali/Yemeni gathering. Would definitely come back again.

I like the chicken and rice, never lets me down. Quick fast hot plate of food and hits the spot. Atmosphere can be Rowdy at times, but i can accept that, i only go for the plate of food and it makes me happy. There hot mutton soup and some baked bread from Yaffa's is another winter treat if i am passing through small heath..

The food was very nice especially the lamb and portion size was perfect. The customer service couldn’t have been better and seating was great as they had closed of sections if you required/wanted privacy. The price was good and I would overall recommend.

A MUST-TRY for anyone hasn’t experienced Somali food! Delicious rice with a large variety of meats. The raisins and vegetables side unique to the African dish was amazingly tasteful too. My photo shows the size of a portion for one person but it took 2 to finish it. Generously sized and excellent prices. Enjoy the family curtained room experience too. Thank you.

Lovely somali community based restaurant. Staffare nice. Food is of good quality and the price is just right. Good portions. They have seperate curtained cubicles for families and a back entrance for families and women. Toilets have been through world war 3 though. Lol. But all round nice place to eat Platter for two of rice, spaghetti, chicken and lamb with vegetables and FIRING chutney.

Every time i visit Birmingham i go to this restaurant, on the outside you probably would pass it and fortunately on the inside it has been updated. The food is delicious and i can never believe how cheap it is, the people are so polite and never bother you. Its fabulous. Give it a try .

I always tell my wife about how delicious Somali food is, based on my experience when I was living near to their community in Minneapolis, MN many years ago. So we were in Birmingham last month and decided to give it a go. Honestly, we went to Salama Somali Restaurant twice on two consecutive days. Inside, I liked the old fashioned Somali style dining which tables were in booths or tiny cubicles with long curtain around it for added privacy, but of course there was an open plan dining area too. Two thumbs up for all 3 dishes that we ordered. The Somali rice was fragrant to go with either thinly sliced grilled steak, grilled chicken or lamb stew. Steak & chicken were well-spiced. The lamb was so tender and juicy. They served all of that with a plate of salad and a bowl of spicy yoghurt coriander dip. It's a must try.

This restaurant offers authentic East African cuisine which is outstanding. The actual restaurant is nothing to shout about. However, the food is made to order and of good proportions l. The staff are quick and responde quickly to your requests. There is no parking facilities and the road is busy and usually fully occupied. They have toilet facilities but no disable washroom. Also the building itself has no disable access.
