Having a short break from my stressful job at Kessingland Beach Holiday park, and this lovely pub is just round the corner and within walking distance. Wow, atmosphere is lovely, very welcoming and genuine local pub, we left our dog in the caravan, but found they let dogs in the pub. Big seating area outside, that would be lovely to sit in, in summer as it overlooks the sea. Hubby had the cheeseburger which came with coleslaw, crinkle chips and onion rings, he said it was lovely, with a proper butchers burger, I had fish and chips with garden peas, or shall I say Moby Dick, it was that big.... Beautifully cooked meal, really enjoyable, thank you, it was lovely.

Enjoyed a pint and great fish and chips here on a Friday night. It was busy, with locals and holiday makers and dogs at nearly every table. Fortunately all seemed well behaved, the dogs that is. The fish and chips were great. Good piece of fish (skin on), nice batter (not greasy) great chips. Nice to see pub busy and well supported in these days when many are struggling to survive. Food service stops at 7pm.

We had a variety of meals off the menu, fish was really nice, the burger was both filling and nice although the bun was not so good. Crinkle chips are just great. The extra portion of onion rings was massive. All the meals were well prepared and very enjoyable. The beer on the other hand was amazing Be under no illusions this is pub that serves food not a restaurant that spoils beer. Exactly as it should be. Oh the cheese stews are the biggest and best have ever had

Came in on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I had pie and mash, all mircowaved so the pastry was soft and stoggy, peas rock hard. Sunday lunch was nice but I would prefer fresh potatoes and veg not frozen. Friendly staff but could do with a clean. The Lurcher beer was delicious.

Just arrived in Kessingland for a short stay and this was the nearest place to eat. Arrived 7.05 and told they finished serving at 7 (which I later suspected was a blessing). My wife had sat down at and empty table and was approached by one of the ageing miserable locals who glowered at her and said, "This is my table." Sailors Home is one of the worst pubs we've been to in years; it was dirty, dank and dark. The interior is covered with signs, supposedly funny, but authored by those who are intellectually challenged or drunk (or both). I know we all have different tastes - thank goodness - but this place was most definitely not for us.

We spent a great sunny Sunday afternoon getting slowly drunk sitting outside The Sailors Home. Sun was out, band (Small Talk) were playing some fabulous music and the place was packed with everyone having a good time. Ignore the negative comments as Paul and Emma are great hosts and look after you. I'm lucky enough to call this my local, so any furreners not liking the place, please feel free to go elsewhere as there are plenty of others who love it.

Can't tell you what the food is like there as both times we tried we were told they had stopped serving. Their website states they serve food 12pm til late everyday. After a longer journey than expected yesterday (sunday), we arrived at the pub slightly after 3pm, only to be told they stopped serving at 3pm. The only "food" on offer was a cold frankfurter wrapped in greasy pastry. To say it was awful, is putting it mildly. Tried to eat there again tonight - got there at 7.10pm, to be told they stop serving at 7pm! I pointed out the website states serving food til late & the barmaid said they can't get into the website to change it. Ok, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this is true, but the chalkboard outside doesn't mention this. In view of the fact their website is misleading, I thought the offer of a jacket potato or sandwich wouldn't have gone amiss, but no, nothing.Never, ever have I come across a pub that stops serving evening meals at 7pm! That's it, never going to attempt going there again with such an unaccommodating atttitude.

Wouldn’t take order until I had table number. As a solo I could not reserve table before going into order! In the end agreed to hold order whilst I dashed out to see what was available. Only gf food was ham, egg, peas and chips . I asked if the burger was gf could I have it without bun. Told all meals came as in menu no subtractions or additions. When the food came it had obviously been bulk prepared. Peas cold eggs poorly cooked. Plenty of ham and chips. As it was hot and I could see 3 parasols up asked if someone could put up the one in my table but told “no it’s too windy” Whole place dinghy and in need of a good clean.

First and foremost, a big thank you to everyone at the Sailors for yet another warm welcome, especially for my elderly parents while they were visiting me. All the staff were as excellent as ever, as was the food (Cheers Paul). I continue to be somewhat baffled about the occasional negative comments from people about the attitude of locals etc. surely a pub who has won rural pub of the year again recently, wouldn't be able to do so if this was the case. I've been welcomed at the Sailors since day one on my relocation to Kessingland a few years back. Bravo all and keep up the fantastic work.

We've just taken on a rescue dog and wanted to make sure he was ok going into a pub with us, and living in Kessingland the Sailors is the best dog friendly pub in the area. There was an Irish folk band on, the log fire was burning ant it was a really good atmosphere. Paul and Emma are always welcoming and we had a great afternoon.................oh and the new dog had a great time as well.

It's a classic pub targeting its major demograph in the area. They do a range of beers from the barrel and is relatively cheap. We did not order food but looked OK if you like a chippy menu. It provides a service and those who attend it seem to like it. Not a tourist destination even with the sea views, which are stunning. Not much choice in terms of pubs in Kessingland. Dunwich is a different kettle of fish .

Went for a Saturday afternoon drink with a friend as we hadn't been in before and I can honestly say never again. I ordera gin with lemonade which I gotand in a gin glass, I had to clean the glass around the top as was dusty, I had to drink with a straw. Asked to change the glass and was told No. The place was dull and dingy looking inside and by far clean. Never again

To anyone coming here and expecting a modern city pub- don’t. The Sailors is a typical English seaside “local” pub in a fantastic location with sea views. To the people writing reviews about “rude signage”- grow up and get a sense of humour. My partner and I were bought here by my parents who live just around the corner! The owner and his wife were very kind and generous to us and we had a really good evening. Generous portion sizes, very hot tasty food, it didn’t seem like frozen food at all. In fact, the owner puts a lot of care into his food. I will definitely return when I visit my parents again. PS: doggo friendly pub which was amazing!

The pub inside us grubby and the table surfaces are all sticky. It smelt of rancid chip fat and stale beer (I know it's a pub, but they don't generally smell unpleasant). The only wine available was in small single serve bottles, lots of beer that we were told was drawn straight from the cellar, beer was ok, nothing special. We ordered food and was very disappointed when it arrived as the coleslaw was watery, the onion rings the cheapest frozen ones and the chicken burger again wasn't the best quality and the bun was slathered in mayonnaise so that's all you could taste. No salad, no greenery whatsoever. Chips were frozen crinkle cut and were the best part of the meal. I left most of my food. We won't be returning. Everything appeared grubby and run down.

If out this way and you're looking for a wonderful, quintessential English local pub vibe, this is the place, fantastic staff, great beer, good food, can't ask for more, all reasonably priced too. Would I comeback? Yes I would 100%, even if I was just passing through the area. For the dog lovers this pub is dog friendly. Seems to be a place the locals enjoy too, that's always a good sign.

Immediately on entering the establishment we were greeted with a stale beer odour and immature signage suggesting the place could be or has been a haven to undesirables at some stage - not on an August Tuesday lunchtime one hopes? However, after drinking a quarter of my pint I noticed the glass had a terrible stain around the top and sides, not from overspill either! The good lady noticed a 5 star food certification on the entrance door next to the Dic*heads advisory sign, but we decided to decline the menu and starve.

And locals vaping at the bar. At one point I asked the bar maid do you serve food in the evening. And was told only to 7 o'clock last orders "strictly" at 6:45. Had a enjoyable weekend at Kessingland topped off by sitting in a well set up outside space. Track and track on and a one way system in to use the toilets in place, although this may benefit from being written higher up the board as...

Spent an excellent Saturday night enjoying a drink and listening to some awesome live music. Couldn't fault the service. Track and trace QR code brought to table on arrival and order promptly taken by very friendly helpful waitress.

Very disappointed with our visit, ordered as soon as the staff were taking orders and we waited, waited and waited, asked where our food was as people who had been seated after us were getting their food to be told by a dismissive waitress that...

A great place to eat, drink and hang out, with sea views. The Sailors Home has it all. * Excellent service, the staff work really hard with a large area of tables to cover, but still keep everyone supplied with food and drink. * Great...

Walking on the beach and heard music coming from the pub. Brilliant young band playing. Thought we would stop for a drink. Now I want to add, we haven’t been to a pub since lockdown and was a little unsure of how it all works...

Have been visiting this pub for approximately 10 years, since buying a holiday home in kessingland. My wrinkled wife and myself are pub lovers and like nothing more than a good pint of cider and a meal in a dog friendly tavern. We have NEVER...

We used to go to this cafe years ago and always enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately today our experience was not a good one. Felt like I spent more time queuing for drinks and then back for food than sitting down and enjoying the experience. The menu seems somewhat downgraded from when we went before (very limited - no JPs or salads etc.). In the counter pastries (sausage rolls and tea cakes) sold out by 11:30. But for us we ordered 2 x bacon, cheese and tomato paninis (£8ea with no salad garnish!). I think the photos show the problems, as one of the guests are in early pregnancy I am really disappointed this grey spoilt meat was served. They didn’t come round and ask how the food was like most restaurants do, so we took the plate up the girl looked confused and took it to the kitchen they offered another one (noting no apologies given) but spoilt meat was enough to put us off and they did complete a refund for the one that was off quickly. Such a shame but to be served off meat is pretty terrible for a well established cafe. Won’t be back, which is such a shame. Note: we are not people to complain so this is a rarity. The shop however is still a lovely visit.

We had an amazing evening here on the 08/11 with 28 of our family members for a surprise 21st birthday meal. From the initial booking the staff have been brilliant, catered for all our needs & looked after everything brilliantly on the night. Big shout out to the chefs! With 28 different meals, not one mistake with the food was made! The food was exceptional, all brought out at the same time, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Massive thank you to the lovely staff that looked after us on the night, and even though we were the last people there, didn't rush us at all! All the staff were super polite & helpful & are a real credit to the restaurant. We will definitely return for our next family event! Thank you Blue Boar xx

As a stranger to the area, checked the website that shows the shop was open. It wasn't so went to the other shop at the other side of town, where the food was excellent ,the staff friendly and very busy, good luck to them. They deserve it.

The friendliest staff and best fried bread this side of the Pecos River. The full English breakfast is top drawer but the fried bread wins the prize! Love this place!

This place is getting worse and worse. After two incidences of getting served rotten fish (with barely any apology from the owner) we have had further issues with tasteless hard sausages, soggy chips (so oily and mushy they could be mashed!) And the portion sizes of fish and chips are way smaller than other local competitors for the same price. Shame as this is local to us, but we no longer use due to so many issues.
