Sagoo Takhar in Merton

As of December 2023 Roxy's (which we have been visiting since the 1970s) became Punjab Palace. The food is the same, the prices have gone up (vegetable samosas were 40p, are now £1.00) but to be fair they probably needed to. Prices had stayed too cheap for too long. Thankfully that horrible snapping/shouting manager has GONE!!! I used to refer to him as Gnarls Barkey because he was always gnarling and barking at the staff. The menu has expanded and become more like a "normal restaurant" menu. The pricing is still very reasonable though and the food is as good as ever. The tamarind chutney was the highlight, tasting like never before - so fresh and fruity! Glad my favourite Southall eatery has not lost its shine.

Lamb kebabs - smelled, tasted bitter, no taste of lamb meat returned Chicken kebab - again looked old and no taste of chicken Meat samosa - smelled off and the meat inside did not look like meat or smell Vegetarian samosa - edible but very low quality compared to all the other restaurants on king Street Altogether horrible and stomach churning experience will not recommend. It's used to be good 30 years ago with the original owners

I visited this place after some time as I love their saag and maki di roti.It did not disappoint.It was delicious as was the chilli paneer.The aloo tiki chaat was appetising.I can understand why people might say portions are small , however for us they were fine. The staff were polite and attentive and what surprised me the most and I was quite taken by it, is that we overpaid our bill by error, however the waitress was quick to come back and tell us that. I did not take her name but she is definitely an asset to the place.

Came here for an early Sunday supper. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. They were out of non alcoholic beer but the manager sorted it out for us and the waitress was lovely. The food os hearty but well flavoured and arrived piping hot. Butter chicken was tender and flavourful and the saag aloo had a nice blend of herbs. Veg samosas were a bit too heavy on potato. Very reasonable prices.

Been coming here to this restaurant since the 1980s The food was always good and value for money, since it’s been taken over by the new owners Roxy, the food is always microwaved disgusting, found hair in my roti this has happened twice. Definitely will not be going to this restaurant ever again.

The manager is so rude, he's tight and cuts corners to give minimal portions. Everyone is ridiculously rude, don't bother. It makes for a horrible environment and experience.

Absolutely terrible service. I called for a quote and the man on the phone couldn’t have cut the call any quicker. Did not give any proper information. Told me my party was not worth catering for-mind blown. Will definitely never be ordering from here - do not recommend

A few things might be good like the makhi roti and the general effort on the service, the rest is really average. The mix grill really was a mix of poor quality meats and flavours. I felt the fish on the grill was either undercooked in places and over cooked in others. Tasting both chewy and raw simultaneously, a definite mix!! Would not order again. Probably wouldn’t come here again either. No real ambience just noise.

Firstly, the service felt homely and it was completely comfortable to speak to the staff due to how welcoming they were. Second of all, the food was absolutely excellent and it was so amazing that we were forced to order more! We are repeat customers and this eatery never seems to disappoint. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking to eat delicious food and who loves friendly hospitality.

I get Tea from here regularly for my staff, the price changes everytime. the staff are ok but the current owner wants to argue about he is right and thats what it is . ... This restaurant in my taste bud's experience has very good distinct flavours and its dishes, whether a simple starter or main curry, are very nice indeed. Naan bread is soft and full of texture. I give this restaurant a thumbs up and as for the negative reviews below, I find it baffling to believe as I personally have received very good service from the staff. Thank you for serving us take away meals during the lockdown. Overall very good authentic Punjabi cuisine and looking forward to eating in again!

We came here on Wednesday, the restaurant was packed out. We finally got seated after waiting for over an hour. Service was very slow, staff looked exhausted running around, they clearly need more staff. We got our drinks after another 45 minutes and then having to chase for them. Food was very tasty and we enjoyed the meal.

Hadn’t been back to this restaurant for a year following a previous sub-standard experience (see previous review). Decided to give them the benefit of doubt and try again - big mistake. Called ahead to check if restaurant was participating in the National Eat Out to Help Out scheme and was told yes. Checked government website to be sure and this restaurant is listed as at 10th August 2020. Double checked again when we arrived at restaurant and again staff confirmed they are participating. The place was not busy at all, just us and another table, which we should have taken as a sign! Arrived, ordered food, it was so-so, not that great to be honest and service still really slow. When we got the bill we had been charged full price. When we asked about the Scheme discount we were told (by the same staff) that they were not participating but they’d give us some money off! When we challenged this and showed the government website with the restaurant listed and highlighted that we had checked beforehand with the restaurant, we were told that they were not aware they were in the scheme. The owner then proceeded to barter with us over the discount. Interestingly he knew the details of the scheme such as the max discount is £10 per person. Basically it was farcical and whilst we ended up with a discount, however, in the mess we didn’t check through our bill properly. We later checked our bill at home and worked out we’d also been overcharged by about £12, so all in all not a great meal out! Will stick to Takatak in future as they are more honest in their dealings!
