If you haven't tried this restaurant yet, please do, you won't be disappointed and I cannot recommend it enough. This restaurant needs it's own clear listing on Trip Advisor to differentiate it from the Donington Manor Hotel, please claim it Donington Manor! The Sage Restaurant, situated inside the hotel currently has Craig Riley as their head chef. Craig is extremely talented, dishing up Michelin standard food. We had the A La Carte menu here a few weeks ago. I read the excellent reviews but initially discounted the restaurant because dinner service is 6.30-8.30 and we struggle with babysitters. However we happened to meet Craig in the hotel car park during the Castle Donington Fair and he offered to serve us dinner on a Friday afternoon, on a day we had booked off work to celebrate my partners birthday. We're so pleased we went and are already trying to find a way to return with friends as soon as we can. The food was incredible and such good value for money considering the quality and cooking techniques used. We were served more courses than we bargained for and the service was brilliant - they're clearly just a really good bunch that want to wow customers, it was an all round enjoyable experience - and the kind of food you think about for days after!! If you live locally and take Donington Manor for granted, look again and make the effort to go, we are so luckily to have Craig's talent on our door step.

New menu and as excellent as before. Been twice now with the new menu and Craig has produced a fabulous menu. Good wine selection to go with it.

A small menu selection which meant everything was presented and cooked wonderfully well with various extras included, good wine list and attentive service, to me a restaurant that Castle Donington has been waiting too long for.

We had dinner at Sage Restaurant. What an absolute treat. The food was exceptional and clearly cooked by a very talented chef - Craig Riley. To have food of michelin standard in the village is amazing. Every sauce, ice cream, veloute and item on the plate was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Plus with all the extra surprises it is way more than a three course meal. The service was great Janine and Debbie looked after us perfectly. Once the quality of this restaurant is known far and wide it will be booked up for months. Thank you to the whole team. ❤️

The Sage Restaurant was the setting for one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a long time. The influence of the new Chef has transformed the menu. It is both exciting and secretive and you have to try it to discover it! The menu is set out simply and doesn't give much away, it is almost a suggestion of what you might expect. You will not be disappointed! There was no mention of the first two courses, a platter of delicious canapes, followed by an Amuse Bouche and a variety of speciality home baked bread, The three courses that followed were each sublime, The service was impeccable, If you want a truly special dining experience, I urge you to give it a try. I am sure you will be wowed!

I recently booked a large party at Sage for my parents birthday. The staff were really helpful including putting us in a private room with table set up as per my request. The food was really good and we even had a personal waitress. I would highly recommend this restaurant for large parties.

We have not eaten Sunday lunch here for some time but will be back again soon. The staff were attentive and efficient and the food from the Special Sunday lunch menu was very good and very good value. Although the excellent risotto was down as a starter only one of our party had it instead as a main course which the restaurant were flexible enough and happy to serve. We will be back again soon and recommend it to anybody.

We were very impressed by the service at this restaurant, the lady on Reception was very welcoming & the waitress who also tendered the bar was very polite & efficient. The food although a short menu (which we prefer) was excellent, tasty, imaginative & well presented at an amazing price. A traditional formal dining room, it was ideal to chat to our friends in lovely surroundings.

A charming old coach house holds this gem of a restaurant inside. Always a warm and professional welcome, the staff ensure everyone has a top class visit. The food is outstanding and at top level, always guaranteed, across the whole menu, so something for all the family or group to enjoy. This is all supported by fabulous and original neo-Georgian architecture, and - forgive me for including something important here, the toilets are all newly fitted outstandingly clean.

went here for lunch and was really disappointed, had wanted to try for a while, booked for 1pm but arrived at 12.30 and although there was only 2 other persons in the lounge waiting to be seated in restaurant we still had to wait till 1,20 to go through, service was slow with just a total of 3 tables being used and the food not much better, i always take photos of when i eat out and i really just couldn't be bothered, was like i was eating at mcdonalds, actually that would probably had more flavour, There wasnt even a cd player in restaurant it had to be carried through from bar area. tired looking hotel and restaurant BUT having said all that, well done to our waitress, she was lovely and chatty,

Can't fault the meal we had here for valentine's evening. We were presented with a glass of cranberry prosecco on arrivall. There was a rose for the ladies on the table and rose petals were scattered on the table. It is a small intimate restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Starters of ham terrine were delightful and the lamb for main course was delicious. A few more veggies would have been nice. The dessert was impressive with homemade icecream and it was lovely to have cheese and crackers to finish off the meal. The waitress was friendly and welcoming as were the other staff we encountered.

We visited this restaurant for an anniversary dinner on a Saturday night. A table booked for 7:30. We arrived at 7:20 and weren't sure we had come to the right place, there are no signs for Sage. I looked into a dining room and it was laid out but completely empty of guests. A rowdy wedding celebration was going on and we were shown into the bar area. This was dirty, uncomfortable, poorly laid out and noisy. The menus were brought to us at 7:40 by an over-familiar waitress. Not much of a choice. We had our order taken at 7:50, I was starting to get cross, at 8:00 I asked when we would be shown to our table but no time was offered. We were eventually shown through to the dining room where one other party had been seated. Our starters came at 8:16. The food was ok, mine better than my wife's. Certainly not the best meal we've had. Not good enough to excuse the poor bar area, the lateness, the casual service or the reduced menu. Never again.

First impressions were that the Restaurant could do with a little "tlc", ripped wallpaper, chairs refurbishing and just a general "up lifting". Afternoon Tea consisted of three types of sandwiches (bread a little dry), four cakes, scone with cream/jam and pot of tea (tea pot stained). Person on duty (reception/waitress) was welcoming and friendly. Better options are available in the area.

I took my girlfriend here for dinner on the first saturday in November for her birthday. I pre booked in advance. The dining room on the website and the awards it has won made it sound and look really nice. On arrival we had a bit of a wait in reception before anyone dealt with us properly. It was clear there was a big halloween party going on in the bar. Unbeknown to us while we waited, this party was also going on in the main restaurant and they had booked it out. We were taken upstairs to a tiny room with four tables, chairs that had seen better days and were more akin to conference chairs than dining chairs, draughty windows and a cd player on repeat. This was extremely disappointing as at no point when I booked was I told this would be our venue for the evening. Bearing in mind it was a special occasion too...There was a half hearted apology when i mentioned this, but it was not very heartfelt.Anyway, we decided to stick it out as the tables were full which had to be a good thing. The main menu was different to that on the website and the one advertised outside the hotel. 3 fish dishes, one chicken and one steak. So not a massive amount of choice if you don't like fish! We both ordered the prawn cocktail to start which came served in wine glasess and freshly baked rolls were brought. I ordered the sea bass fillets with chorizo and potatoes and my girlfriend had chicken with potatoes and a mushroom reduction. Portions were generous, and the food was hot. Both our meals were very tasty. My girlfriend ordered ice cream for dessert and I had eton mess. It was a set price for two or three courses. We both had soft drinks and the total bill came to just under £40. We thought the price was very reasonable and the service was fairly good (although other tables seemed to have problems with the staff and their wine knoweldge!)The same cd was playing over and over and we had heard every song 3 times by the time we left. Whilst waiting for our bill, a member of staff asked us if everything was ok with our meal. I explained that the food was great, but again we were very disappointed about the location and that I should have been pre warned about this when I booked. She apologised and said that other diners had mentioned the same thing. No gesture of goodwill (ie discounted bill/free beverage) was forthcoming, and so I left it at that.I would recommend the food here, just be wary of big group bookings! 3/5 is my rating...it would have been higher if not for the poor substitute dining room

Had Sunday lunch today at the Sage Restaurant in Donington Manor. Arrived half an hour early and went into the bar for a glass of Merlot (very good) first, this area could do with a face-lift, and a more tasteful one than the last. The restaurant itself however is nicely decorated and tasefully so. However the waitress from the restaurant came into the bar and took our order whilst we relaxed and chatted. We were called through and did not have to wait long for our starters, we both chose a Chicken Caesar salad, which was just sufficient with fresh salad and moist chicken. The waitress was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Our main of roast sirloin, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and fresh veg was delicious and the gravy made me want to use my spoon!! For dessert we chose ice-cream which was - ice-cream.Curiously when my partner called to book and asked for a table at 1pm, he was told there were no tables available at that time and so he booked for 12.30, by 1.30pm several tables for two had not been taken and when we left at 2pm they were still free. Our custom could have been lost if we had needed to eat at 1pm, when they could have quite easily fitted us in.Otherwise a very enjoyable experience and very reasonable for three courses, will no doubt go back!

we travelled to this hotel for sunday lunch some 30miles journey, after reading the reviews on trip adviser. Well I can only say it was one of the worst meals I have ever experienced. We arrived and were shown to the sage restaurant by a very nice young lady.I can only say that the waiting staff could not be better. The room was old and tired but very clean and pleasant enough. We were given the menu that was very traditional for Sunday lunch which suited us because we had come with my elderly Mother.Well, now what followed was like a comedy. The tomato soup was passanda with a stock cube added, it was like glue, awful. The parfit was a slice of the cheapest pattie you could imagine, pale and insciped, served with a lettuce leaf and chutney. Next was the citrus smoked salmon with beetroot and horseraddish. I can only assume about this dish that I think they had had the ingredients for this hanging around for a month. Next ,the main meals, two roast beef and one chicken. The beef was two slices of what I can only discribe as microwaved braised beef served with a frozen yorkshire and two frozen roast potatoes. Now came the chicken, this was absolutely disgraceful. It was a processed piece that I can only discribe as a sausage. It was

We visited the Sage restaurant after searching the Internet for a good place to have an evening meal on our way to East Midlands airport earlier this month. We had checked with Trip Advisor of course and we were not disappointed. We both had the 2 course meal priced at £14. I had lamb and my husband had fish. The food was beautifully presented - as good as fine dining as we can afford! Finally tasted red wine jus!!! The only slightest disappointment is that there wasn't much atmosphere as there were very few diners. It was a Monday evening though so this was understandable. Very nice background music. Would definitely recommend the food at this restaurant.

We live locally and use the Donington Manor and Sage Restaurant as often as possible. We have had many a family Sunday lunch, several group bookings, Xmas and Boxing Day treats, overnight stays and our wedding reception here. The service is second to none, as is the food, and I would like to heartily recommend the place to all. Even our last visit with a large group when the table arrangement was a bit snug (albeit exactly what I had asked for) then Petra and the other staff immediately rectified the problem and offered us several free bottles of wine as compensation for the problem. The prices are also very reasonable with Sunday lunch for only £14.95 for 3 courses!

Absolutely amazing food, and lovely staff. We came a couple of weeks ago and decided to come again with family we enjoyed it so much. What we didn't appreciate, was them adding a cover of 8 people, which adds a service charge, (we had a party of 4, at a table for 6). Had they not been sneaky and tried to add it WITHOUT telling us, we were more than happy to tip for fantastic service and food. We questioned and it got removed

The Priest House has so much potential. Its location is lovely, situated by a river and the buildings are lovely. However, this is a very tired hotel, both inside and out. The exterior paint is peeling, the outdoor communal areas around The Cottage where we stayed were so dirty and unkempt and the exterior of this building was grubby too. The room was at least clean and plenty roomy, but the radiator was on full blast and it was a 23° sunny day. It couldn’t be turned down or off. The service in the restaurant was very slow and the food overpriced for the tiny portions. The constant drone all night of the aircraft flying into East Midlands airport was very noisy. It’s all a bit of a shame, as this place has bags of potential. Sadly, we wouldn’t come back again.
