We called in today for tea.and cakes, our first visit since moving to Lancaster recently. The cafe is clean and bright , with some interesting music-themed prints on the walls. There is a nice selection of cakes and muffins and we chose banana bread and Welsh tea loaf - both were delicious. There is also a wide range of loose leaf tea and real coffee from Atkinson's of Lancaster. Finally I must mention the owner, what a friendly and welcoming guy he is. I am looking forward to visiting again soon for lunch. Highly recommended!

Julie and Kim at The Sage Café went above and beyond. It’s not often you come across such willing people, and I struck gold when I reached out to them for their help. My Mum had been admitted to The Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital and was having an awful time. On top of that, she was served a lacto-free yogurt and banana for her dinner one day as they clearly had no clue about providing meals for someone following a vegan diet. I live in Dubai so felt helpless and contacted Julie and Kim to see if there was anything they could do to help. I found them on The Happy Cow and they came back to my email quickly explaining they are delivering heat-at-home meals during the closure of their café. I explained the hospital wouldn’t allow my Mum to heat any food from outside the hospital, so not only did they say they would heat the food for her, but they would deliver it to her ward at the hospital each day at 5pm ready for dinner time on the ward. My Mum sent me photos every day of how overwhelmed she was with the fresh food put in front of her, along with cakes and flapjacks to keep her going throughout the days (the peanut curry was her absolute fave!). I honestly cannot thank Julie and Kim enough for going above and beyond to bring my Mum some happiness during a difficult time. They are wonderful humans and if you’re ever in Lancaster looking for fresh, homemade vegan food, then look no further. We are so very grateful to you both. Laura

Stumbled across this place during our brief visit to Lancaster and it’s in the centre of town and really cute! You’ll be hard pressed to come across a more independent and local business than this. Only serving vegetarian & vegan food, it’s a perfect place for a coffee & cake, or a hearty vegetarian lunch. We had coffee, veg lunch and finished with a massive slice of lemon drizzle - yum! Clearly run by two friendly locals, this place is super quaint and cute. They really appreciate the business and had good social distancing, hand sanitiser upon entry, 1-use menus and the two workers wore masks at all times. Really glad we stumbled upon it!

Popped in for lunch around 12:30pm. Great decor with a small space at the front to relax with a coffee & a read. The rest is laid out for dining though I find it’s a little imposing/open to be completely comfortable, even with the brilliant background music. Not sure how that can be fixed though and in fairness, by the time I left, the place had filled up quite a bit, which helped. Wonderfully warm welcome from the two folks behind the counter and an immediate explanation of the dishes of the day. Salads, quiche and nut loaf on clear display and looked great. Cakes, flapjack on top of the counter to your right, also looked mouth-wateringly good. I opted for the quiche of the day and salads. Though I can’t quite recollect the exact flavour of the quiche, I can tell you, it was one of the best quiches I’ve had in a long time! Beautifully short and thin pastry with a generous filling that was light and incredibly moreish. You get a choice of 3 salads. Today’s choices were a carrot, cumin & seed, a spinach, strawberry & walnut, a 3 bean & cucumber, a vegetable cous cous and finally a cherry tomato & olive. My choice was just right for my quiche dish but I’m sure any would compliment well. Really fresh, delicately dressed and totally yummy. The menu, whilst not huge, is a collection of well thought out veggie dishes that should meet even the most discerning foodie. A little pricier than some places for a lunch option but there’s no denying the care and quality in this cafe. Even got a tasty addition to my latte, with a couple of pieces of homemade fudge alongside. Not sure if this is a regular thing but I felt it was a lovely gesture. I’ll keep my fingers crossed this veggie/vegan eatery will find it’s place in Lancaster’s burgeoning cafe scene, as it’s a little off the beaten track, but well worth a visit.

Looking for a place to have lunch with a vegetaran friend, we found Sage Cafe. I had the nut loaf which came with a choice of three salads from the bar, and my friend had soup which she said was delicious. The hosts were very friendly and attentive and the cafe had a really nice ambience wth some interesting posters. The food was lovely and fresh and well priced. I believe there's also a discount for public sector workers. It'll certainly be a place I'll return to, if only to have a piece of the fab looking cake I didn't have room for!

I had the nut roast and my wife had the Quiche of the day, and both were excellent. The owners have really pulled the stops out to provide a good selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Also the atmosphere is great, making you want to come in. Julie is constantly trying something new and is prepared to listen to suggestions.

This hugely popular wine bar and eating establishment, a stone's throw from the shores of Morecambe Bay, was our destination for a tea-time treat. Three of us ordered a trio of mouth-watering boards adorned with a rich variety of tempting morsels......from Lancashire pork pies and slices of ham to an impressive range of cheeses, with lots of little pots of tasty and tangy chutneys and pickles, together with extremely moorish bread and crispy crackers. A quite splendid, locally sourced feast accompanied by a velvety rioja. All in all, a wonderful experience in a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Congratulations to Gill and all those in front of house and the kitchen. The family running Shackleton's have a distant link to the legendary Antarctic explorer of the same name....one thing's for sure, Sir Ernest would have been more than happy to trek across the most challenging ice-field in order to share a board here in Morecambe!
