We love this place for a great lunch. Has a quirky but interesting environment and atmosphere. The staff are very polite and efficient. The food is excellent, the portions very generous and its not too expensive. Unfortunately we've yet to be able to manage a dessert/pudding (which sound and look amazing) after a main course. Next time we must try just a dessert and drink!!!

Six of us recently celebrated my mother-in-law’s 70th birthday, by having afternoon tea at the Sack Store. The entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. Booking and payment were easy, and any queries prior to and post-booking were answered by helpful and friendly staff, with excellent communication. The setting is lovely and the food was of a high standard, beautifully presented and delicious. The quantity was more than enough, and we were even provided boxes to take any leftovers home with us. The service on the day was exceptional. The staff were efficient and attentive enough that we felt well cared for, but they also gave us enough space to really enjoy the food and company without feeling rushed or pressured. We highly recommend the Sack Store and will continue to visit.

After having major surgery a few weeks ago I was craving a breakfast treat, not the usual full English. After a trawl of local venues menus I remembered the sack store. Fantastic poached eggs in various guises. Went for the eggs royal, it hit the spot. Food was perfect as was the service. Will have to make this a regular pick me up.

Rang up on the spur of the moment on a Sunday to see whether they could accommodate myself and my husband for lunch. The restaurant was busy at the time of my call and a lovely lady explained she would pass on my requests. A few minutes later another polite lady called to let us know they had space for us. The meal itself was lovely. The puddings were worth a special mention. Was very sad to read in another review that they had received poor service....this couldn't have been far from the truth for us. A beautiful building with a warm atmosphere. Loved it.

I want to say firstly that the lady who waited on us was very polite and as helpful as she could be under the circumstances. She completely cleared the bill too as compensation for the debacle that occurred. This did little to make me feel fulfilled though. My meal was terrible! The sausages had previously been cooked to charcoal and then I can only assume left under heat all morning which left them crunchy all the way through The carrots were completely raw and the mash was lumpy and cold. They literally couldn’t have got the meal any more wrong. I cannot believe that this was thought to be acceptable by any so called ‘chef’. The lovely waitress was very apologetic and told me that there would be a little wait as the chef was going to cook the dish fresh for me (I would have hoped that this would have been the case with the original meal).45 minutes later, I had had enough. I’m not very nice when I am hungry so I didn’t wait around to question as to why after serving up inedible food, the chef thought we should wait another 45+ minutes to be still waiting for a re-cooked meal that should take no more than 15 minutes! One would think that after being caught out serving up rubbish they would think that you would come in front of the other 10-15 meals they sent out to other customers. Not happy! I'm only giving two stars instead of one because the waitress did everything she could and was faultless. Two local customers lost.

After the bad experience on our last visit, we were pursuaded to give The Sack Store another go. The service was much improved on this occasion and the food was very good. I can highly recommend the Goats Cheese Salad, but would have liked a little more beetroot to balance the astringency of the cheese. The portion size was genorous and was thus good value for money. My husband had the Roast Beef sandwich again - the quality of the beef is always excellent. Indulged in a slice of one of the many cakes on offer to finish the meal off and was very pleased with t he portion size and taste. Only negative this time was the fact that there was a very long wait to pay for food, as the person on the checkout was very young and very slow to work out the bill. Perhaps some investment in technology would remedy this? Very pleased to say it was a return to form, a few tweaks here and there and the Sack Store would challenge any similar venue.

Dropped by for Lunch only to be greated by a sign saying they were short staffed. Restaurant was quite busy but there were still a number empty tables, with some sections of the restaurant closed off. Greated rather sullenly and asked to wait, same member of staff returned several minutes later and advised us that we could not have a table at the moment and then told us we would have to walk round the store and try again later. Would not have been so bad if a table had been reserved for us in 10 or 15 minutes but this was not the case. The rather unhelpful attitutude is just not acceptable. We often eat at the Sack store on a Saturday lunch time but sadly we will now be looking else where. How many other potential customers were lost this Saturday by the sullen front of house person one wonders? We lost faith in the Sack Store in the past after a couple of previous visits were not good but wanted to give them another go and recently they had been doing really well on all levels but sadly, it seems, they cannot be relied upon to give the service consumers expect and should receive in this day and age.

Lunch at the Sack Store. We were put onto a dirty wobbly table. After waiting ages we got our coffee l asked for a clean table without a wobble. We had to move. We placed our order. One was a pie that had a pastry topper , so not a pie! We found a long blond hair in the pastry. (My husband has no hair) my cheese and biscuits did not have the cheese as stated on the menu. After complaining it was rectified. But simply not good enough!

Been many times to the sack store for lunchToday the service was terrible, there was food being delivered to wrong tables, our dessert carrot cake arrived before main sausage panini, there were no serviettes and when we asked they never arrived, we were about to leave when after 45 mins the panini arrived. We did not arrive late for lunch about 1pm but most if not all cakes and scones were sold out, and many people left because of that. Not impressed.

Returned at the beginning of August to find the menu had been re-vamped. to have lunch, pleased to say the place was back to it's best. This is the most astounding environment to eat in, a fascinating old building, where one’s surrounded by amazing artefacts. We often take friends and family here and everyone always finds it interesting but in addition the food is fabulous. We’ve never been disappointed or had a bad time here. There’s a great selection of light lunchtime sandwiches/panini/jackets, etc plus a handful of more substantial dishes. Cakes and dessert portions are huge. Everything comes very nicely presented and nothing’s too pricey, especially given the portion size and extras included like side salad. This is definitely not a fast food outlet and often there’s a bit of a wait for drinks/food to arrive but the service is pleasant enough - sit back, relax, chat and enjoy the experience!!

Having visited the café many times several years ago myself and my sister visited recently on a Saturday afternoon. One of the young waitresses (petite/blonde hair) took us to a 2 seater table but failed to acknowledge I was carrying my 18month old daughter and consider where she might be sitting ! I politely requested a high chair to which the waitress rolled her eyes and walked off. She returned with a highchair that clearly had not been cleaned, the tray full of what appeared to be cake crumbs. Not wishing to make a scene and unfortunately this being a common occurrence in many places I wiped it down with some of my own wipes. The waitress left us with our menus and there we sat for 25minutes waiting to order our food, the same waitress in that time had seated 2 other couples on the tables immediately around us returning to them to take their orders. My sister politely said 'excuse me' as she walked past but the waitress ignored her and continued to walk away. We then witnessed the waitresses chattering away amongst themselves at the kitchen hatch for a period of time. A short while later one of the other waitresses asked if we had been served (in this time the other tables had been served their drinks and cakes). We requested the Boston sausage panini to be informed they had run out of sausage so we requested the bacon and brie panini to again be informed they had run out of bacon. At this point we decided to leave and I can say for certain we will not be returning. The service was appalling , even the couple on the next table who had been eating when we arrived were flabbergasted by the one particular waitresses attitude at how unaccommodating she was at the start (they had witnessed the highchair issue and had also seen from their table the highchair was filthy).

Based on the price range of their retail sales floor, I expected to find my lunch quite expensive. How wrong I was.I was seated and my order taken quite quickly. I ordered a pot of tea and a Panini. The tea arrived promptly along with a selection of crisps, bread with a Balsamic Vinegar dip. A few minutes after my panini was brought to the table. The pot of tea (small!) provided three cups of tea which was still warm after almost half an hour. The panini was very nice though the salad that came with it was too much for me to finish. My lunch came to less than £10, which competes well with almost everywhere else for the same meal items. The Sack Store Emporium is let down a little by the eating area being on the first floor and the toilets another floor up. I couldn't see a lift although I might have missed it as the whole building is full of displays. Equally, this would make it difficult for anyone in a wheelchair to move around anyway.Access from the eating area to the toilets if via a circular open staircase with the floors at top and bottom a little uneven. There ARE notices to this effect to warn customers. Nonetheless despite being fit and able I found getting up and down from the toilet area a little disconcerting.

Converted old warehouse with quirky bits like the spiral staircase and some exposed brick work and beams Not at all suitable for wheel chair access or those who cannot manage stairs Grandson is so impressed by the food he thinks they should close the shop and set up completely as a restaurant! Lots of excellent soups salads cakes and main courses Lots of coffee choices and speciality teas available Staff are helpful and obliging Children are made very welcome

The Sack Store was a joy to visit for the first time. The cafe served a tasty flavoursome English breakfast, available in two sizes, the coffee was excellent quality and hot. The staff were friendly, smiley and all seemed happy in their duties. The shop downstairs was a delight to walk around. The building is stunning presumably an old train shed or station. Great morning out and after 3 hours of looking around, finding our log burner and delicious breakfast we were very happy. We will definitely be back!

Set amongst some beautiful lamps ,prints and interesting paraphernalia, this lovely cafe cum restaurant serves some delicious and surprising dishes. eg.stuffed marrow.Really Yummy food enjoyed with the subtle and comforting aroma of wood burners. It's secluded position makes the find hat much more satisfying. Full marks. For a lovely lunch.

What an Alladins Cave. After a look around we had lunch. The waitress was wonderful. She was interested in us as people and not just customers. Great food and service. The waitress was very knowledgable about the menu making ot so easy to pick what we wanted.

Have visited dozens of times and never been disappointed. It's a great place to have a relaxing catch up with friends and family over a well presented cuppa and slice of delicious home-made cake. I'd definately recommend you give this place a try. The home-made soups are lovely, and everything is priced very reasonably. Parking is limited, and it's a challenging walk from the town centre as it's an 'out of town' site but that aside, is worth the visit in my view (not a place for fast food fans)

Lots of choice on the menu and the presentation is lovely. However, this is my second visit for a sandwich in the last few weeks and both times the bread has been dry. A plain cheese sandwich can be the best thing ever if the bread is beautiful and soft, but it wasn't.

Visited with my Mum last Saturday, who had previously been. We went upstairs and we're greeted by a "Please wait to be seated" sign, the wait took a couple of minutes but a friendly waitress took us round to a table. After sitting, we decided what we were going to have and chatted. It took a little longer than we would have liked for our order to be taken. The waitress that did come had a smile on her face and was very accommodating to what we wanted. Our drinks came quickly after ordering. And not too long a wait for our food. Both our meals were great, we'd opted for a light lunch mine a half baguette and my Mum sandwiches.Whilst eating we were checked up on by a couple of waitresses which was nice to see there were being attentive. We'd finished eating and decided that we were going to share a brownie. So we waited for someone to come over. And waited. And waited. No one came, not even to clear the table, our plates were clearly pushed to the side. One waitress came to sit another party next to us, my Mum had caught her eye, and she looked straight at my Mum then our table, but she walked off.We waited a couple minutes longer before leaving to pay. A pity when the first impression was so positive.

First off, I just want to say how nice it is to find a café that servers beer. I really do love sitting down for lunch with a nice cold bottle of beer :) This was our first visit to the sack store café, it wasn't the best but we will be trying again on a week day to see how it goes. Took a while to figure out what to do as we can in though a different door and we didn't know if we had to sit down or go to a counter. We also noticed that several tables had been cleared but not cleaned. My other half is a rather picky eater so its a good way to test out places and review on. My other half ordered the Roast beef dinner with no gravy and no veg and I ordered the Goats cheese, cranberry and beetroot salad minus the beetroot. I couldn't have what I ordered as the cheese, beetroot and cranberry is already made up, so I decided to have the roast as well. The chef then came over to me and offered me an alternative salad with feta and cranberry which I found to be a very nice gesture, it also sounded really nice to I took them up on the offer. When the food came out my other half's meal came with veg, extra veg actually as they didn't have any more new potatoes left and gravy. After pointing this out they did take it away and make a fresh plate up without gravy or veg and gave us some extra rosties. Both meals were very tasty and surprisingly the salad was very filling, extremely friendly waitress and overall a nice place to sit and relax. The friendly service is the only reason I gave it 4/5 and not 3/5. For 3 drinks and both our meals it cost about £21 which isn't to bad for dinner but seemed a little pricey for lunch.

Walk in and up the stairs, my dad who is nearly 90 managed by clinging on to the wrought iron bannister. Plenty of places to sit and excellent choices on specials board. My dads beef casserole was substantial and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He particularly commented on the Yorkshire puddings. I had tomato and bacon soup, well presented with a neat crisp side salad and cheese filled brown, flavoursome bread. Large pot of teA. £17, and I thought well worth the money. My dad couldn't believe that anyone could even find the Sack Store never mind eat there! A thoroughly enjoyable visit, as always. My only criticism is that there was much evidence of the need for more assiduous dusting. However I live in a dusty house, so felt right at home!!

Wonderfully evocative of everything you would wish for in a cosy winter home! Reindeer throws, log burning stoves, leather sofas ...You can wander at will with no pressure from staff. To my delight I could even buy a gorgeous heart tea light holder in real wood for £6 so came away with a purchase even though I didnt want anything major.Staff were very knowlegable and helpful and there is an atmospheric tea room/restaurant which I will defintely be returning to.

Went here with my wife on recommendation of a friend. The store sits in a industrial estate and does not look that appealing however the store sells all sorts of quality items for the home. The cafe' is upstairs with tables, sofas dotted about to sit at. Staff very friendly and we both had Panninis which were glorious with lovely salad & homemade coleslaw and a gallon of quality tea. Very reasonably priced too. If you like 'quirky' you'll love this place. Will definitely visit again

Visited today for the first time to buy some bathroom tiles. Staff were very friendly and helpful and selection of tiles was vast. Cafe was quirky and different in a good way, we sampled a Cafetiere of Colombian coffee which was strong delicious and not at all bitter. The fruit scones with Jam, butter and thick cream were scrumptious and freshly made.Having found this gem, we will be back to sample more of its delights soon!

Lovely food.....however felt staff spent more time chatting than taking orders. I went to the counter to say we were ready to order, and the waitress was very rude, practically shouting across the room to say there were other tables waiting. I wouldn't have minded the wait if they were full, which they weren't!!,,...shame as the food was lovely.

The Sack Store itself sells tiles, wood burning stoves and lovely leather furniture and the busy restaurant is in the midst of all this. It's an unusual, quirky place, full of unusual character and a great place to visit. The food is really good as is the service. I took my Dutch friends and they loved it

I Regularly go for morning coffee or a light lunch. We often take our visitors for a trip out. Seating is both varied and private from comfy sofas to old oak tables. Food is of a good high standard and comes with a smile. My only criticism, as a regular visitor, is that the cakes are often the same and it would be nice to see some new bakes on offer. Saying that the scones are always very good. The store it's self is an inspiring one off selling mainly wood burners, tiles, furniture and heritage paint. There is always something new and unusual to tempt the browser. Well worth trip if you like interior design and a good cup of coffee.

We`ve been visiting Boston for a long time - and have driven past some buildings on the way in along the A16. Our friend took my wife to this lovely place for coffee and to look at some floor tiles for our kitchen refurb project. I went with my wife a week later to look at a choice - they have a huge array of tiles, and we enjoyed a lovely fresh home-made lunch too!. Very good menu served by a pleasant waitress and a choice of ground coffee served in a cafetiere.Been back twice now!. Sensible pricing. While waiting for the food you can`t help but look around everywhere - you sit upstairs in an open plan gallery. The beautiful building has been sympathetically restored to it`s former glory from yesteryear when it was actually part of all the storage facilities between the docks and the railways. Built around 1850.

Quite simply breakfast and service at it's best! Fantastic food and value in a warm and welcoming café full of laughs and down to earth hearty food. If that wasn't enough the value for money and generous portions are welcome in a time of rising prices and shrinking plates of food. If only we lived closer! it would be my café of choice. Thanks for a great breakfast and setting us up for the day!

Stopped in Boston to break our journey home and spotted this near where we parked and from outside it looked lovely. Two toasted tea cakes and two black coffees £12 The two stars were for the friendly staff. The place was filthy- dirty chairs and tables and toilets a disgrace-certainly not been cleaned for a while judging by the number of cobwebs, dirty broom and toilet brush. So disappointed- won’t be visiting again.
