S. Luca Ice Cream & Olympia Cafe in East Lothian

Met here with friends for brunch, the staff are so friendly and the service was very quick and efficient, we had breakfast rolls & coffee and on the way out just had to have ice cream which was delicious! This will be a regular meeting place for us.

Popped in today at 1130 for coffee and a snack. The place was teeming with customers but i was quickly found a seat. Food (panini) was delicious as was the coffee. And what lovely friendy smiling ladies staff the place.

We had lunch here with a large group, and despite it being very busy the staff went out of their way to get us 3 tables close together. Great selection of delicious food and ice cream. Would definitely recommend.

We came upon this gem of a find quite by accident! My husband and I had a beautiful meal - I had the lasagne with garlic bread and fries, while he had the pasta Bolognese. Both were absolutely delicious. However the real piece de resistance came with the scrumptious desserts - build your own ice-cream. No-one does ice cream quite like the Italians and coming from Newry and Mourne in NI where quite a few Italian families made their mark with ice-cream, we are spoiled for choice. And Luca's did not disappoint. The extensive menu of desserts means there's something to tempt every palette and then you finish off a wonderful evening with luxury hot chocolate complete with fresh cream and marshmallows. It was an absolutely wonderful evening. Great staff and on my way out purchased one of their beautiful S.Luca bags. S.Luca in Messelburgh is well worth a visit and we hope it won't be too long before we're back!

My kids favourite restaurant (or cafe). They love the food there - always the same and especially the ice cream. Can be a bit crowded as no booking system but that is a good sign I guess. It's popular for a reason.

Although very busy, there was a space for one! The staff were all friendly and there were clearly regulars in. The staff were moving briskly about the café and orders were arriving promptly. I had a late breakfast (it was about 2pm) of perfectly poached eggs on white bread toast. Delicious. Every coffee type has a diagram and explanation - learnt a couple of things and ordered decaf breakfast tea. There was no pressure on customers to eat up and be gone. Toilets were spotless. Downside? Yes, if you were queuing for ice cream - a long long queue but given how good their ice cream is, no surprise.

What a popular and busy place! we went on a Saturday and had to queue but it was definitely worth it - the staff were lovely, apologising for the wait, and we got a seat upstairs where a friendly and polite young man served us. We had breakfast rolls with haggis and bacon followed by a range of ice cream treats. I tried the home made snowball, with ice-cream - it was fabulous. Worth a visit, reasonably priced, nice service and fresh and tasty food. Oh and awesome ice cream!

I did contemplate whether to post this or not, was in musselburgh today with my son & we just happened to get a parking space opposite so we decided we would pop in for lunch after doing what we were in musselburgh to do, food no complaints at all, service slow as normal but you know its never the most organised of place & you are gonna wait an age for your order, however what really really really stopped me from leaving a tip (I always like to leave tips wherever I go) as we were waiting to be seated a member of staff (yes I am gonna describe her to a T) older lady, blonde curly tied up hair, worked there for years, not the most polite of people at the best of times, was waiting to take drinks to tables when she picked up the staff tip jar,shook it, then said to the ladies making the drinks, 'oh well we will nae be getting a night oot anytime soon wi what's in there' then said table 7or9 are desperate for their drinks can you hurry up with them! I looked at the lady behind me (in the queue) we couldn't couldn't actually believe what she said/done, then next thing she's bustling away to do something else when the girl making the drinks (she requested) tried to get her attention to let her know they ready! Honestly 5mins waiting to be seated & I could write a book, maybe a wee staff training & refresher day on customer service might help (only a suggestion) P.S really like the new downstairs from the revamp, pity we were stuck upstairs so didn't have time to admire it.

Amazing ice cream, amazing chocolates absolute artisan .. and the mocha coffee - trust me just get one !! The staff are fantastic and the prices are good.

I was disappointed to learn that the vegetarian breakfast is cooked in the same place as the meat. The vegetarian breakfast is not vegetarian. Thankfully we thought to ask. Definitely jot going back.

I would just like to pass on my thanks to the staff at Lucas in Musselburgh. I visited Lucas in Musselburgh with my parents and two young nephews (3 and 9). We were out and about for the day and decided to go to Lucas for lunch. The queue for the café was right back to the door but we decided to wait as we knew the food is excellent. The staff were constantly checking the queue and trying to get people seated as quickly as possible. We didn’t have to wait long. We were given menus, orders were taken and the kids were given crayons and colouring sheets/menus and were quite happy to wait. While we waited for our food we noticed how hard working the staff were. Tables and chairs were wiped down, customers were given a happy and cheery welcome and staff always had a smile on their face. My mum actually asked one member of staff how she could remain so happy when they were totally rushed off their feet. Her reply was that she just was! We got our paninis, pancakes, chips and ice-creams which were delicious. Great size portion and delicious. A huge thank you to the very hardworking, friendly and efficient staff at Lucas Musselburgh.

Decided to take the kids for a evening ice cream. Sat in the restaurant area and enjoyed some desserts and drinks all staff were lovely and ice cream was amazing as usual.

Had lunch here with my parents in July. Awesome selection of ice creams and sweets at the front of the cafe, and really nice seated are out the back. We had paninis, soup, and full breakfast an d every one was great. Staff were lovely. Cafe was spotless.

Everyone knows how amazing Lucas ice cream is but their soups are just out of this world, especially the chicken! 👌 I could live on their chicken soup and never had soup with so much flavour and meat. Macaroni is 10/10 also!

it is absolutely amazing, I have been here multiple times and there’s never been a bad situation. I do not know what all these bad reviews are going on about as none of them are true. I’ve had everything from chilli nachos to chicken nuggets and it is amazing. Well done to Luca’s.

We often pop into Lucas for Ice Cream, the staff are always so freidnly and the range available is always on point. Definitely recommended!! (It's worth waiting in line for!)

A staff member called mia Ruthford was very rude and unpolite. We ordered a sofa bed and foot stoolIn December returning to Lucas furniture as we had had such a good experience before buying our bed.5 months later we have still got the wrong sized mattress for our sofa bed. To be told today after countless phone calls that actually it’s the wrong sized sofa and right mattress!!!!!!Will never buy here again, terrible customer service leaving us to do all the chasing. And still now resolved. Very tricky for us to ‘pop into the store’ when we have 3 children and both with for the NHS.

We all are dealing with Covid , really do not need to speak to customers like we are children was told to enter by one staff member only to be shouted at that I should have waited outside by another . Your sign says please wait to be seated not wait outside . Get your act together ...

All the other ice creams of our youth have deteriorated. Only Luca’s Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate remain as perfect as they always were. Shared a tub of all three in the car. Memories!

Their vanilla is excellent as is the strawberry and chocolate. These are their most popular flavours and for good reason. I got an extra scoop of green apple sorbet which was very nice too.

We had a lovely lunch in the cafe yesterday where the food was very good. We were especially impressed with the staff who took great care with our three small grandchildren , twins aged 2 and their sister aged 3 ensuring they weren’t kept waiting too long, they were given paper cups with lids and straws for their drinks. The care they took let us all enjoy our lunch and was greatly appreciated. Of course the Ice Cream went down a treat too.

We got ice cream from van in North berwick. Amazing ice cream! Will definitely keep eye out for s luca in the future.

My son I went for lunch, we has to queue outside but not for too long, the meal was delicious, and staff were very friendly. They also acknowledged the social distancing, and the cafe was very clean.

Fab customer service and a well organised shop. The ice cream served here in my opinion is the best around . So many flavours to choose from. Worth queuing and waiting for - a real treat.

We called in here hoping to have a coffee inside with the dog. Unfortunately dogs were not allowed. So we decided to have the coffee to take away - and very nice indeed.

I used the ice cream delivery service. I live in Livingston & had been unable to get Luca's ice cream locally. I placed an order for myself & my brother's family. It was easy to do, with a great choice of flavours to choose from. It was simple to order & was free delivery. The quality of the selection was fantastic & very enjoyable. Will happily use again in the future.

Ice cream was great, however need to work on social distancing customers at the morningside branch. After mentioning this to a member of staff, i unfortunately got the impression they didn't care.

We arrived at Luca’s to find the queue was long but we were served in double quick time the staff were great and friendly,the ice cream was out of this world far to many flavours to pick from !!!wee we had the Ferrero rocher,Nutella and the old time vanilla a blast from my childhood. You can beat a luca’s hands down

Not sure what cake to get my husband for his birthday and how easy it would be to get one during lock down I contacted S Lucas, (because he loves ice-cream) to ask if they can do a birthday cake. I have to say the service that I received was first class and the Malteser ice cream was fantastic, plus I had a very happy husband on his birthday. Highly recommended.

I went yesterday after all the other cafes and restaurants have been closed. I have to say they did a great job of keeping everybody safe!!! There was a manager outside working crowd control to make sure everybody was a safe distance away, there were markers set up to show everybody where to stand, and signs everywhere insisting that only 2 people entered the shop at a time. Other takeaway places can learn from Lucas!!!

Lovely ice cream, lots of cream and let down by tinned fruit. Other than that the best ice cream in the area. We have had a meal/sandwich in the past but I can’t recall what it was like. Prices are average and definitely going back

We opted to stop here for breakfast rather than at the hotel where we were staying. We thoroughly everything we ordered and it was very reasonably priced.

Been going to lucas for years due to their great choices of desserts but noticing service getting steadily worse. The wait times are horrendous and the server that we had forgot/didnt get requests that we asked for. Just for a main meal and a dessert we were there this time for about 2 hours. Poor service has been the same about the 4 times we have been over the last 6 months so not a one off. Such a shame the poor service lets the place down as that is what we know it for now, not the ice cream and puds. Wont be going back any time soon.

This it a lovely retro place with Formica and delicious ice cream. However the service, coffee and biscuits are a bit retro too, which is a pity. We were in a draughty spot between the door and the overhead cold blower, and it was somehow my fault.

Just reading the history of S.Luca makes your mouth water. The flavours and combinations are incredible. In it's original location next to the factory makes it even more special.

We live locally and visit Lucas at least once a month. There’s always a good selection of flavours and quick service. I’m not vegan but adore the vegan cherry and chocolate ice cream - so much so that we brought a tub home last time! Always worth a visit to this local place.

It is over 50 years since I had an ice cream at Luca's, THE place to have an ice cream in the 1960s. My granny always insisted we stop here for an ice cream on the way back from the seaside.

It is some 50 years since I visited this place, the ice cream is as I remember it, unfortunately my taste buds have moved on. Creamy and with depth, this ice cream beats most ice creams, but sadly my taste buds are elsewhere.

I often visit here with my family for meals or just ice-cream. The food is great and ice cream well it's famous.

Food was very average,tea was poor quality and service was abysmally slow and that was before the lunchtime rush. Wont bother going back.

Food and desserts are good, but sometimes service is not, but it depends of course. Could be really busy there and then is a long wait.

We decided to take away from the lovely young lady at the takeaway area as the miserable rude grey haired server in the seated area put us off. She could do with some training in customer service! Ice cream is lovely though we wish all the servers were as sweet.

Chicken and Bacon Salad, Cheese and Bacon Burger, Pizza, all good quality, fresh, tasty, and decent portion sizes. Ice cream was amazing! Quick service too. Busy cafe with quick turnover. Nice atmosphere, not too loud, very reasonable prices. Definitely would recommend to others.

We visited for pudding after a meal out. It was surprisingly quiet and we were able to get a table straight away.

We have always loved the ice cream here but today we also stayed in for our dinner. They served a good pizza for my son and a good pasta and bolognese for me. The service was very good. My only complaint is about the arctic blast you get from outside when the door is open.

A traditional Scottish-Italian cafe, S. Luca has the normal basics, but well presented, served by friendly staff and at reasonable prices. Decor and furnishings are unspectacular but clean and functional. The highlight however is the ice cream bar - some of the best ice cream around and well worth a diversion off the A1 to try it!

Food was good. Simple pasta dishes at reasonable prices but this is only a precursor to the real deal! Ice cream oke youve never had before. We went for La Montagne....8 scoops of any flavour, smothered in fudge pieces, flakes and cream on the side. Utterly delicious! ONLY set back is the service which is always pretty slack.

Amazing selection, some unusual flavours, shop and cafe always busy, staff always polite and willing to help. My daughters like to taste test before buying and the staff give them a spoon of as many as they like, whether there's a queue or not, they spend time needed with every individual customer which is amazing.

We stopped for a couple of scoops of made-fresh-on-the-spot ice cream here at S. Luca & Olympia Cafe. Really good cream and a nice treat during our afternoon drive. Parking can be a bit tricky but if you don't mind walking a couple of hundred yards you can usually find street parking just down the street.

Sat in for sundaes, told there was 'no cream for them today' but the waitress 'didn't care'. £ 6.00 for 2 small scoops of ice cream and a snowball, with dis interested service. Never again!!!

Last two visits have really put me off Luca’s.

Got here on a Tuesday as I know it does get busy, ordered and waited 40 mins for food to get there! Was not happy but food made up for it, slow service but nice homemade macaroni, could be bigger portion though and I’m not a big eater. Relatively cheap so all in all very friendly and nice food and ice creams. Just bad service.

One thing I don’t like is when a place says open T 9 am and when you go in at 9.15 they are still preparing to open.

Visited while I was in the area on holiday as we always do. Had a lovely pizza and my mum had a salad roll. Both were amazing. While the food was great the highlight is definitely the ice cream. You need to try it. Amazing.

I don’t get out to this one often, I much prefer their one on Moringside Road as it’s had money spent on the decor, whilst the bigger and home base one is in dire need of renovation .

The ice cream parlour and chocolate shop is great which is what you walk through to go to the cafe so you see their fantastic selection of confectionary.

Good service and amazing ice-cream, lots of flavours to choose from. Very popular so can have a wait at busy times but definitely worth it. Homemade snowballs and rocky road are highly recommended.

This is the best place for ide cream in Scotland . All flavors of ice crean made on site. Tube n cartons prepacked or packed in front of you so you can pick and mix.Also cafe for lundh or fresh coffee.

Popped in for a quick coffee and I had a hot chocolate the waitress asked if I wanted a Cadbury or a Italian hot chocolate as I have been to Venice a few times and loved the hot chocolate there I decided to have that plus a scone my wife was unfortunately not able to have a treat as none off your cakes are lactose free the waitress was very helpful and checked for us the 2 stars I have taken off are for the hot chocolate that was a let down and because my wife was unable to have a cake off any sort but everything else was great would definitely try here again for a meal as all the meals I saw leaveing the kitchen looked really nice

I usually collect my middle granddaughter from nursery and on this occasion she asked if she could have her tea at Lucas. She chose chicken nuggets, followed by ice-cream with a soft drink. I chose the chilli beef nachos and my usual decaf tea. My granddaughter is only 3 so I felt there were too many chips for a child her age. However, she ate all of the chicken and had her ice-cream. I thoroughly enjoyed my food, which was spicy but not perhaps quite as hot as I would like. I would definitely visit again - there is an extensive menu from which to choose. My only comment would be perhaps to offer larger and smaller child size portions to minimise waste!

Haven’t been to Luca’s for years, so glad to see it’s still there. Decided to sit-in. Ice-cream was delicious as were the home made snowballs. So many flavours, difficult to choose.

I see to visit here all the time and get the most amazing ice cream and great service. It’s far more commercialised now. The students employed at the weekend need to be given a lesson on customer service and his to smile and take care a bit. We ate upstairs and the basically had the menu thrown at us. The service was quick.

The flavour of the ice cream is so so amazing. Amazing food. You can buy good chocolates. I highly recommend the chocolate frog. The prices are incredibly cheap.

Ok best ice creams around aside, the cafe can have long waits and the service can be a bit slow. Foods good though, ice cream excellent just need to up the service speed....

Great food and coffee. The waiter seemed a little hesitant but was very pleasant. This place still sells the best ice cream ever. I’ve tried ice cream all over the world and I always use Luca’s ice cream as the bench mark and no one else comes close.

Love their icecream, quite a few flavours to choose from. Snowballs good too. Had Coronation chicken roll last visit it was lovely

Cant resist a lucas nutella ice cream even in the colder weather, one day we'll make it into the indoor cafe to try the menu as it looks great

Called in for ice cream cones on a rainy Sunday afternoon but was tempted in to try the hot snacky foods AND the ice cream. The club sandwich as a bit cold and a bit dry so not the best I've had, ditto the sharing platter, so adequate overall, but the atmosphere was jolly and the ice cream good so next time we're in Musselburgh we will go for those cones again.

This very traditional cafe is full of the best icecream and savoury treats too. Try theor full scottish breakfast or pop in for a scone and tea.... you will not be dissapointed.

When we come through to Musselburgh on holiday this is the 1st place on our list. the food is freshly prepared and very nice. But the star of this place is the ice cream. Amazing. Not the cheapest place but well worth every penny. Staff are great as well

Stopped at this very busy café for a lunch on a Sunday. Very good menu and excellent service with very reasonable prices meant I would definitely use this café again. Couldn't manage an Ice cream but they looked very good will try next time we visit.

Visited the cafe around 4:30pm with a party of six,tried to book however we were informed that they do not take bookings,just "come along and we can get you in".My experience of these cafe / ice cream parlours is that they try and avoid reservations as most people book for ice cream only which isn't as profitable. No matter had our order taken meal served with drinks and deserts within 70mins,good solid service when the cafe was exceptionally busy. Thanks for the experience. Will definitely visit from Glasgow again.
