Would not recommend at all! Haven’t had fish and chips from here in a long time….. I used to recommend it! Tried it tonight…. Chips freezing cold, mushy peas hard and fish tasteless and very watery! We had to wait for fish to be cooked which I really don’t mind if it’s fresh…. It was not. And the portion sizes have massively reduced, a handful of chips with the fish. I will not be going again.

STAY OUT! Strange man with dead fish in bag wanders in asking for it to be battered! this isn’t normal dead fish, this is rotting, honking dead fish. put me off my meal and when i asked for a refund a man named leigh told me he’ll pay me back in fish guts. really sums up this area and it’s inhabitants, shame on you leigh, shame on you.

£7.40 for 2 fish cakes and small chips. Daylight Robbery. Smiths on Yarborough Rd just as good and £4.50. I’ll give it six month and you will be shut with those prices. Bye bye Russell’s.

Asked for large chips, got enough for a small child, yet this was £3.50, shocking. Asked for scraps was enough to serve a pinch. Customer service not great, fryer man shouting. Gone down hill since Russell left. Will not be using this chippy again. Recommend going elsewhere

Very disappointed. Usually excellent fish and chips but tonight the fish was dry and overcooked, difficult to separate from the skin and the chips were limp and insipid, not very hot. Hope this was a one off! Friday 9 June teatime

Didn't like the fact that there was a dog allowed to run round the place so it's put me of going in again not everyone likes dogs and good hygiene shouldn't be allowed

Really bad… fish was hard and inedible for £18 it was terrible. If I were in a restaurant I would have 100% sent it back. Such a shame as this used to be my go to fish and chip shop. Will not be returning ☹️

I used to use these regularly until their delivery time becames ove an hour and I was spending 4.99 for the delivery itself, the man at the chippy was rude when I called and asked where my food was as I was on my out after wait an hour for fish and chips. Lost a customer. Great work guys.

Just had fish and chips from Russell's not been for a while but they were first class fish and chips cooked to perfection fish was so fresh not had fish as good as this for a long time staff great as well .excellent value as well .

Called in as was over seeing family who live local and we couldn’t travel back to the Wirral without having had Grimsby fish and chips. They were due to close in 15 minutes but never felt rushed. Made us 2 small portions of fish, freshly battered and cooked to order, chips, peas and curry sauce. Fish was awesome, lightly battered perfect white tasty flaky fish. Chips were nicely cooked, not too blonde but equally not too well done. Boxed nicely, served with a smile and it appeared that the staff got on well with each other. If we lived local I couldn’t imagine wanting to go anywhere else. We will be sure to visit the next time we are over that way. Thank you.

Really good chippy,had fish chips and peas/birketts sausage over the last couple of weeks,food is done to order so you'll never have reheated food it's all cooked fresh, 2x fish chips and peas+the large birketts sausage that was for me I do love a big sausage😅it took around 4/5 minutes to get the order, fish is really nice crispy thin batter,I have had papas and for me it's well overrated and the fish looks bigger because the batter is so thick,this is the best chippy in grimsby and cleethorpes by far, 10/10 from me

Nice and tasty fish and chips. Used to go every Friday evening but have now changed to a different chippy, unfortunately on 4 occasions over about 6 months they did not get the order correct (this was face to face not a telephone or internet order) they are really busy on a Friday and the staff appeared a little stressed, I think this may have been the cause of the incorrect orders. If you can see them prepare your order then you are probably ok but when it's busy you might have to wait and watching to check your order is not so easy.

Very disappointed waited over half hr the girl was to busy chatting to someone that came in after us and gave them our fish and chips was greasy and didnt put top on peas properly so was all over boxs and had less than half dont think they will be getting anymore awards

So been going to Russell’s as long as I remember first in the 80’s I think always good. Russell retired and it wasn’t as good for a while . Went in tonight and one of the girls who usually serves was frying (Sophie) I think her name is . Well the food reminded me of my childhood it was fried to perfection they need her frying more often. If I could rate more than 5 i would well done girl

Ordered online and whilst most of it was lovely, do not order chicken nuggets. Paid £3.25 for 4 nuggets and they were overcooked and all four fit in the palm of my hand. I wouldn't understand if it was a child's meal but it wasn't

Food was ok stayed patient and 7 people was served theirs before me and all I asked for was a spam fritter in a bun but yet people was ordering full meals and being served no problem yet took me half hour to get a fritter

Food was excellent but portions within a week have halfed ordered large chips spam fritter it was a child's potion phoned up and they said you got new portion sizes one scoop or two scoops chips for £15 should of walked to my own chip shop

This is a great fish and chip shop with a large menu. The fish is always lovely along with the chips. They offer a variety of other products e.g. batters sausage, Spam Fritter, loaded chips etc. They also offer delivery via Grimsby and Clee eats delivery for this was quick and easy with the food still fresh.

We called in for tea around 4pm and both had fish,chips & mushy peas.The chips were fine, peas a rather small portion but the fish was no were near the quality of previous visits ?? Fish was grey and firm not white/flakey as usual.Will orobably leave it a while before returning...Shame really.

Been here a few times in the last few weeks. Friendly staff, fish and chips are excellent. I took fish and chips to a lady who ran Fish and chip shops in Grimsby and Cleethorpes for years and she was well Impressed.

First time trying since the take over and we was very disappointed. Chips looked like they needed another 10 minutes of cooking, fish was ok but definitely not fresh, fishcakes was tastless apart from the generous amount of parsley in them,peas was bland. 2/5

Went to Russell's chippy today , fish and chips x 4, takeaway, probably go once a fortnight as this is a 16 mile round trip from Keelby, it's our first time since the new owners have been there and as usual we we're not disappointed, great fresh haddock and crisp chips all perfectly cooked. Keep it up guys

Food was awful. Staff are rude. What you want? Isn't a way to greet a customer. Politeness costs nothing but I'll guess you charge extra for that. Did leave a review on Facebook but they blocked me to try remove it. They can't handle criticism. It use to be really good. Gone from one of the best to one of the worst. Would recommend going somewhere else. Won't be back again anytime soon. Would give zero stars but you can't do that so I'll begrudgingly give you a 1.

Best chippy in town. We come from the other side of Grimsby for them every week. Staff are great and efficient. Never had a bad meal in all the years we've been going there. Highly recommended.

Had a chippy today with my kids, the worst one I’ve had! All I can taste is thick grease in my mouth sausage where the hell is the batter, won’t be coming back such a shame as this was a lovely place to eat before the new owners took over

Had fish and chips last Friday and I have to say they were the best I've tasted. Lovely fresh haddock, incredible mushy peas and chips to match. Understand it’s recently been taken over by a new family and by god are they doing it right!! Well done

Cooked to perfection with fresh battered haddock straight from the dock. Chippy of first choice in Grimsby and that says a lot. A must try and get mushy peas with it to round off the best fish and chip experience that British can buy.

Visited russells after hearing it was under new ownership- wow they are still as good as before if not better!! BEST FISH IV EATEN

1st time we have been here in a few months because of Covid. We had seen in the paper that it had been taken over so we thought we would give it a try last Wednesday and see if it was still as good. We were NOT disappointed at all so glad we went, the fish was clearly as fresh as can be, the chips were perfect & the mushy peas are by far the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely be returning & be more regular now things are easing off.

They are usually very good, but this time the gravy was lumpy and the chips where half cooked.

I have been to Russell's again today and we have had sausage and chips and curry sauce for my partner & I have had a mince & onion pie with chips 🍟. I was in Russell's last night 🌃.

I used to think that fish and chips was fish and chips wherever you had them. That was before trying Russell’s . Not only do they serve the best I have ever had, their staff are eager to please. It is no wonder they have won the ‘Best Chip Shop In Grimsby‘ Award several years on the trot. I have only lived in Grimsby for three years and have travelled extensively, but I can honestly say they serve the best fish and chips by far.

Very happy to savour Fish and Chips at this place for the very first time. Brilliant fish, brilliant chips, the staff was very pleasant, Sam Richards was such a pleasant and cheerful lady. And Russell Cooper cooked the fish brilliantly. Will surely be returning back here even though its 20 miles away.

Well worth the awards they have won as the fish and chips were superb. Fresh fish in a light batter, with fluffy fresh chips. We ate in at lunchtime so our meal was freshly cooked. The place is clean, and very pleasant,friendly owners. It is off the beaten track but do visit, you won't be disappointed. I feel a bit envious of the people living nearby. I would not be able to resist a nightly fix!!

Russell's is another well established fish and chips takeaway,located on 2nd Avenue in Grimsby. They have built a good reputation and were voted best Fish and Chips shop in the local area in 2017 and 2018.The shop itself is large and spacious, nice, clean and well lit with good wheelchair access and there are a couple of tables with chairs inside. The menu is quite large with a good variety of food options,Haddock, Skate, Cod roe, Scampi, Fish fingers and Fish Cakes are available. There's some parking available directly outside. It's cash only here. They have a 5***** food hygiene rating. Food review Sept 2019. I ordered Haddock and chips to takeaway,I had a short wait as the fish is fried to order here. I received a good sized portion of nice clean looking crispy chips,the fillet of Haddock was also well sized, I really enjoyed the batter here very thin, light and crisp in texture,the quality of the fish was also very good a good meaty fillet, nice and white in colour,moist and very flavorful. 👌 Their reputation appears to be well deserved, good quality ingredients and perfectly prepared. 👍 I paid £6.30 for my meal.

First of all the food is nice I'm not disputing that...the prices I can live with but is quite expensive I just spent £25 its the portion size I'm complaining about they are portions i wouldn't even give my 3yrld child they would laugh at me absolutely ridiculous portions for the money you spend....a burp and a fart and we will be eating again!!

I live just around the corner from Russell's so it's my "local"! It serves the best fish and chips in town! The portions are always huge and exceptional value for money. The batter is always fresh and crispy and everything is always cooked to perfection.
