Ruskins Bar in South Lakeland

Bit of a strange place at first but when the band started and people started pouring in the place come alive. Extremely cheap aswell. A must if in Kendal.

Wednesday is free jamming night. Great friendly locals 👏 I have moved nearby so all new to me .like the variety of music from early blues to ACDC to the Doors to Amy Whinehouse

Great bar. Just steer clear on a Friday night. I've tried a couple of times and couldn't stay as there is a couple that go a stink the place out

Highly leng local bar, great selection of drinks and friendly staff. Even better when there’s a wicked and bad MC doing up naughty riddims pon the mic. The Guinness is also 2 degrees colder than the standard pub serve which I believe improves the texture, everyone hates me when I mention this fact however. Great 4 for 10 deal on Jagerbombs, just have to watch out for the skinny white guy behind the bar who may or may not try and guilt you into getting one for him as well. It’s a bit annoying at first but you can just ignore him and he will stop. It’s worth it for the selection of draught local beers!

Its literally a bar of two halves go left it's more quiet and pub like. Go right it's more like a cross of modern bar and old style pub with jukebox and pool table. The right side is often more loud but either side is decent and you can choose a side that suits your mood or night.

Mint Comedy Club have just held their first monthly comedy night at this venue in the rear large lounge.......Excellent night, professionally presented with superb comedians and very welcoming and efficient bar staff on hand. Well worth a visit to the next Comedy show in February. Ruskins has two bars, one main front bar and a second bar located in the rear function overflow room at the rear, all very compact from the main entrance stairs.

Attitude of the young lady on the door, during the Mountain Festival, dissuaded us from paying the fiver entry. Don't think anything special was happening inside, so it would appear they were charging to gain the most revenue, from some of the 18,000 who were attending KMF. It's Kendal on a Friday night, not Manchester. Not good.

Fine and reasonable prices. The toilets are very tired however.

Not the best, but not the worst in Kendal. Could do with re-clothing the pool table.

Great place. Lively if you want or chilled out. 2 sides to the bar..

This bar is in one of the yards off the main shopping strip in Kendal town centre, but is easy to find because of the large sign on the side of the building facing on to the street. The pub is reasonably cheap as a round for two only cost £6.80. In addition there is a great range of whiskeys, but limited ales and lagers. The pub has two rooms at the top of the stairs and on the night I was there was a band on in one room, charging 5 quid on the door. However, I found it frustrating that as the night went on people from the other room were not prevented from coming in having not paid making it feel that I had paid the entry fee for no reason. In addition, these people were trying to dance and invade the personal space of any female in the room, dropping glasses on the floor and mocking the band - none of which was dealt with by the the staff. Overall despite the drinks being cheap and the bands okay I ended up not enjoying the night out. If I go again and the experience is better and the staff able to manage these situations better, I will update this review, but for now I don't recommend Ruskin's Bar.

Nice a little bar, staff are professionals, manager is fantastic and i thank you for accommodating me to pick up my forgotten phone on your closing hours. This pub/bar have fantastic DJ'S with free entry. Cheap beer to compare to big cities. The atmosphere will match your descent if not high standard. Keep up the good work team Ruskins.

No chardonnay., not good enough

Great local spot. Not your regular classic British pub - definitely a more modern twinge with the purple lighting. Great for a quiet few or a break from dancing with your friends, and a good selection of tunes on the jukebox for background music. Also host to some nice quaint little open mic nights and concerts.

Great bar in Kendal, good for music and bands, great staff and a good selection of drinks.

It's OK , however it is up one flight of stairs, alright for able-bodied folk, no for wheelchair users was quite on the night however as we were going couple of guitar player's was having a jam.

Great coktails, fantastic range of vodka, lime and lemonade. 10/10 would go again.

Visited as part of a stag do. Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming to all in our party.
