Why serve freshly fried fish with reheated chips. What a shame!!

It depends on whether the fish is being cooked or had been sitting under the heater! Hit and miss with the crispness of the batter.

Bought (15th Jan 2024) Fish and Chips + bottle of Coke, £13.50!! Got in my car and drove round to Morrisons car park to eat. This beats the worst F&C I have ever had, fish had a horrible twang which normally indicate old fish and the batter, very thin. chips were semi cold and dry. Ended up throwing away it's such poor quality. Then a few hours later the stomach cramps started and was nearly sick a few times and still today I'm feeling a bit nauseous!! This place in my opinion needs closing down, terrible.

We order cod 4 battered sausages Large chips and curry sauce the chips was horrible and cold didn’t never put though for the pace off cod won’t be going there no more used to be a really good chip shop it’s gone down hill so much 😩

Best fish and chips I go there all the time with friends and family. I’m there one a week plus the staff is polite and friendly kind.

Absolutely excellent service from staff. Had a takeout from here a few times and the food was freshly prepared, cooked and served with care. I could say it was one of the most top quality meals I’ve ever had! I enjoyed my meal. I would definitely recommend this place. Others should definitely check this place out!

have been buying food from this shop for the past couple months and can honestly just say the taste is like no where else, the fish, the chips and the burgers are just the best. Especially the customer service, workers really care about customer well being and can build nice conversations out of just the purpose of going there to buy food, really caring environment. love the food and the people!

Staff were very pleasant and our kebabs were delicious. Bit strange that they only take cash - but it is written by the till. Whatever.

Chips had been cooked sometime ago and were Luke warm.Returned them to shop and staff offered me more of same quality,refused offer and manager offered a cash refund which I declined and said would return at a future date when they could give me some hot freshly cooked chips to prove their standards had not dropped!

A sad rewrite of my review, £4.00 for a small battered sausage and chips. It may have been £4.50. Ordered 2 portions for my kids and nearly choked on the price. I'll drive to the jolly fryer thanks .

Since new management gone down hill, chips undercooked, sausages dry as sand, staff are really rude shouting at me because of their faulty door!!! Highly recommend the little chippy near tesco

I've only been to this fish bar once with no complaints. Tonight I collected a small chips and curry sauce and the chips are mushy and undercooked. Hopefully next time they will cook the chips to the perfect bite.

Recently the food has been lovely and fast. Staff are friendly and very welcoming. The shop is a little small and cramped when it gets busy but that's not their fault, they do well with the space available.

We were staying in a cottage near by, and decided to have a fish and chip supper. The fish and chips together with mushy peas was first class, and hot. The portions are also very generous, and not at all greasy.

First visit to Downham Market. Fancied some chips for lunch and they were absolutely spot on. Best i've had for ages. 👍

Awful. Pipe wrapped in plastic, soggy undercooked pastry. Chips again undercooked an greasy. Closer to mashed potato in a bad way.

This used to be the best chippy in the area but not anymore. My family had pie and chips a few weeks ago. We noticed that some of the chips tasted reheated and were mixed with a few recently cooked new ones. Very poor quality and shall not be returning unless they substantially improve. Such a shame as this was my go to chippy! Also pukka pies cooked in microwave awful. Chips also tasted of beef dripping which I don't like. Sad to see corners are now being cut I bet wetherspoons close by are pleased. There McCain chips taste better than Rumbles Fish bars now!

Used to be fantastic but the last couple of times the fish has been under cooked and the oil was definitely past it's best. Can't fault the portion size but come on guys get this sorted out. Maybe you're focusing too on the new restaurant.

Not as good as it used to be! Fish was dripping in oil, the portions of chips have got smaller and the prices have gone up. £2 for one saveloy "really ". Not the only chippy in town, will try the other one next time. Lastly why do they still insist on cash only ,no card's. Maybe they're cooking more than the chips!!!

We only visited as we were staying locally. Really nice chip shop. The cod was lovely, the chicken kebab was delicious and my son was very happy with his chicken nuggets (and he is fussy). I would use again 👌

Living close to Downham, Rumbles is my usual chip shop. They are brilliant and over the years I have used them many times and on the odd occasion they have been a bit ropey but todays fish and chips was disgusting...completely inedible fish it was all dry and hard. I must of had the left over lunch rush fish..Very unhappy!!!

I have been using this chippy for years cant fault the staff but £6.00 for a piece of fish is outrageous that does not include chips!!! Other items on the menu are overpriced very disappointing wont be using again with this type of price hike Shame

When we moved to Downham market we found Rumbles and it was great. However, on our last 2 visits for our order of cod and chips twice, one of the cod has been grey and a bit twangy. The same has happened this evening which is disappointing as we've ended up having to share once again. Its such a shame because customer service is brilliant, the staff are very polite and welcoming. Sadly, that can't make up for reducing standards in the food.

No problem with the food , food is good. On the door saying 2 people in at a time ,just making you aware that they are not adhering to that fact , I drove off and there were 4 people in, whats the point in having signs on the door?

Love rumbles the chicken wings are sublime and they cook shish over charcoals what more can you ask for the fish is good but could do with a skinless option if you rectify that I will bump you upto 5 stars I hate to give you 4 but feel that you could improve on that alone

Usually serving best takeaway fish and chips in Downham Market😋although personally sadly disappointed with quality on last couple of visits☹️ but will try again sometime in the near future, maybe just picked a bad time.

Just had the best donner kebab and great chilli sauce (would love the recipe) and proper amazing chip shop chips, but the real reason for this review was the covid precautions in place from being asked to queue outside distanced, to having our order taken to be guided to go in and kept socially distanced.Excellence in service and the food was great too. Even being let off 40p as I had a ten pound note in hand(went to get more from pocket to be told that's ok)Thanks keep up great work.

Yes the prices have recently increased, but bear in mind that these are the first in nearly two years. The quality and quantity are brilliant especially the fish. If you have to wait that is because they do so much trade and you get your meal fresh, not like some chipies where the food has been cooked for ages.The staff are very friendly and always, if they are not too busy have a chat.You would have to go a long way to better this place.

Great fish and chips. Cod was crispy and great flavour.

After searching Google maps and checking the reviews, we decided to go for fish and chips here, it would have been a 5 out of 5 but as it was cash only, no contactless payments and I asked for a large curry sauce with my cod and chips, I got outside and sat down to eat them and it was a small carton. I was quite miffed. That said the food was gorgeous, the best fish and chips I have tasted in a long time, I would definitely recommend and will go back when next in the area. Hopefully it will be contactless payments then.

Called in at the weekend and was astounded by the price rises £6 for a piece of fish , £3 for a pie, £2 for a sausage prices up quality & quantity down pricing themselves out of the market certainly won’t be back

Expensive - prices up 30% since lockdown - shame as used to be best Chippy around. Sorry won’t be returning.

Used to be great but food very greasy now and a few days ago had chips which were so undercooked they were nearly raw. Staff are friendly and helpful but if the foods sub standard then I think I will be giving it a miss in future.

Best fish and chip shop I've used for years, excellent food, efficient, staff are brilliant, manager so friendly, I've used them now for a couple of years and I won't change unless (God forbid) they do.

Have supported this shop for years and never had a bad word to say.. However over last few months it had been slipping quite remarkably. Once a week treat is large cod and large chips. Only once in last seven timed have they had one. Instead they put two smaller pieces in which is all batter.. Today again no large cod so told smaller piece or wait.... I had been third on the queue for 15 minutes already so took small piece. It was so dry i gave it to my dogs! It isnt the first time either....... Chips portion size is different every time also... Time to step up..

Absolutely love this chip shop. We go in for chicken kebab and fish n chips about twice a week- even when we don’t mean to!! Can’t resist! Always give us a heap of chips and Kebab is freshly cooked with plenty of salad and full of flavour. The batter on the fish is golden and crispy. Staff are always polite and full of smiles - even if you see them around town. No wonder you often see people queuing out the door! Well worth a visit and totally recommend.
