I'd been out with a group of chums to see "Dune: Part 2" (oh, and I have opinions about THAT!) and fancied something appropriately spicy afterwards: The spice must flow! We chose Rumana's on a recommendation from a friend's sister, and I'm glad we did. Their website says they "pride ourselves in treating our customers like members of our family", and it really felt like we were old friends visiting someone's home (especially with the well-behaved kids scooting around and being generally delightful - and I don't even like kids!) I think we were served by Rumana herself, and she was welcoming and helpful - a real pleasure to meet someone so engaged and enthusiastic about their restaurant, and being a great host. The other staff were also very polite and helpful, and knowledgable about the menu. Speaking of which: The menu has a selection of dishes which seem unusual and possibly unique to this restaurant. I won't go into too much detail about my friends' dishes, but all were given the thumbs up. The poppadoms came out first, of course, but the accompanying sauces need some props: Their chili-sauce-gravy thing was incredible (I almost asked if I could take some home). Most curry / balti restaurants in Brum seem to have their own 'red sauce' and it's not often one stands out as being extra-special and worthy of a paragraph of review: This was one of those special sauces. Spicy, tangy (tamarind?), thick, and with a huge amount of flavour. Well done, chef! For a starter, I had Shunamoti: I've never had a cheesy chicken tikka omelette before, but I will certainly have it again (and probably learn to make it at home). Very unusual, and very tasty. for my main, I decided to opt for something at the spicy end of the scale, and had to ask about the story behind "What the Bloody?!" (yes, that is what it is called) - no spoilers! You'll have to find out yourself. It warranted three chilis on the menu (not the hottest thing they serve), but this was a home-cooking 3 chilis and was at the top end of my spice tolerance (which is quite high), so be warned! I can recommend the mango lassi as a wonderful 'control rod' for the naga reaction. However: The dish was not just hot for the sake of being hot, but had a real depth of flavour, too. The accompanying roti was fluffy, fresh and hot. I am also reliably informed that their Peshawari Naan is one of the best my friend had ever had (and they lived in India for a while), drizzled with honey and with juicy sultanas embedded within. The restaurant is unlicensed, but there is a small shop over the road where you can buy booze if you need to. It's also next door to a 'Spoons if you want pre- or post-curry cask ales. Overall, a great experience. Northfield seems to be THE place for getting something authentic, unusual, and very tasty these days (I reviewed the equally excellent Omar Khayam a few weeks ago). I'll be back to explore the rest of the menu at some point: I definitely need to try the Atomic Chips!

We had an 80th birthday celebration here and it was lovely. Catered for 13 of us, food was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The owners little girl even sang happy birthday. Would highly recommend this restaurant - and you take your own alcohol as well. Will be back soon.

I can’t fault the attention to detail , service or efficiency of Rumana & her family making my retirement celebration go smoothly. 24 of us sat down to a variety of starters & main courses which we couldn’t fault. We were all served together, food was delicious & portion sizes excellent. I fully recommend this restaurant for a large group - or even for an intimate dinner for two, as they certainly make you feel relaxed and welcome.

Three of us visited Jan 15th, being midweek I didn't bother booking, there were a few other people there but plenty of tables. Everything about the visit was perfect, loved the decor of the place, the food was excellent, hot and well flavoured, some of the best Asian food I have had. Service was great and not invasive and to top it all the prices are extremely reasonable. It's take your own booze too. We all left very full and very Happy. Will definitely return.

I love a good curry with depth of flavour, not too much oil and not filled with root vegetables. Rumana’s delivered. Best curry I’ve had in ages. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options and some unusual curries as well. (There were loads of meat and fish curries too, so you can take all the family!) It’s quite a small place and very popular. Consider booking. Despite this, the staff were excellent. Very friendly with just the right touch of attentiveness without being overbearing. They are not licensed and happy for customers to BYO. We are returning to New Zealand next week and this was a great finale to our stay in the UK.

A really lovely local restaurant which serves gorgeous food. The staff are extremely attentive and friendly and look smart and professional ( that might sound silly but they really do look like they are from a high end restaurant with their stylish matching uniforms !). We have been several times now and never been disappointed . Highly recommended .

What a fantastic little gem we found this evening in Bearwood. Myself and my husband popped in for a meal out and it did not disappoint. From the minute we stood inside the door we were given a warm welcome. The restaurant was spotless .We were given a table and was given a few minutes to settle in,followed by serving us drinks and presenting us with the menus. We were not rushed and when asked about certain dishes the waiters were able to explain. I asked the waiter to get the chef to surprise me with a main dish. The food came to the table very well presented.we were given time between courses. During our time there the restaurant filled up with a mixed range of customers, some couple, families and friends which gave the restaurant a lovely atmosphere between customers and staff. I loved that the plates were nice and warm before our dishes were served. Food had a fab taste to it and best of all it was very reasonable priced. Iwould highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely return soon.

Service was very slow, waited an hour for starters, mains were tasteless and luke warm and not a lot of it, 12 of us went bill was over £400, definitely won't be going back very disappointed.

Having driven past this restaurant for years we decided to give it a go, and we were not disappointed. The food was very nice and great choice of menu although with only option to purchase drinks it was a little pricey. The dishes were all good and the starters were the 'gem' with everyone enjoying a delicious starter. We will definitely return to this restaurant for special occasions but not for a 'cheap curry' with friends. The food is worth that little bit extra on the bill but not on a regular basis.
