This is the third time I’ve visited for food and it’s the third I’ve left with an empty stomach. The previous visits they had stopped serving lunch earlier than advertised on their own menu… this time we ordered a jacket potato and a panini, an iced coffee and a white wine. 10 mins after taking our order and giving us the drinks we were told they have no potatoes and can’t give us the smoked bacon panini… as they only offer jacket potatoes, panini’s and bagels this is pretty poor. That’s it for me and Rum n Fizz… 3 strikes and out. It’s a nice looking place but the service is pretty average, cocktails are overpriced (Prego next door is much better) and the food appears to be a total phantom. Iced coffee is good.

Popped in for afternoon cocktails and it was brilliant! Great bespoke cocktail menu, welcoming staff and incredibly well stocked bar. Even had a cocktail with my fave Islay single malt! Well worth a visit!

What are my favourite rum bar 🍸 so many to choose from

This review is for Mia only. Mia is absolutely amazing, my mom lost her phone and we were panicking for a whole day, we thought we probably lost it at this bar so we decided to give it a try. Mia kept our phone safe and charged, she immediately recognized me and gave it back to me. I really appreciate it! Thank you again Mia! You’re the best!

Great atmosphere, amazing drinks, and friendly staff. Can get a bit busy to get the drinks, but the bartender is really good, worth the wait. Martini espresso was well balanced and beautifully presented. Best cocktail bar we’ve been in the UK so far.

As a maximalist, I find the interior design absolutely beautiful, especially the ceiling adorned with all those frames. However, the drinks were disappointing. The wine tasted like cheap supermarket wine, which was unsatisfying.

It’s huge not only the area but also the variety of gin, rum and cocktails. You can enjoy breakfast and Brunch on day time, and chilling with your friends all day in cocktail. The last room named Barker coffee actually in the same place but closed earlier. Those bar and coffee rooms, as well as Barker tea room are the same company group. Same practice: you need to find the table on your own and order the food and drinks in their counter. I love the decor and atmosphere very much, will definitely return when I visit Cardiff. P.S: yes price is bit high (e.g a pint of beer £6.75 and cocktails more then £10) but the location and atmosphere, service worth it.

A new find for us and we loved it. Very cool bar, great jazz music my only complaint is the wine glasses are style over substance. That said we will definitely return.

Called in for a drink and couldn’t get over how lovely and welcoming the place is. The decoration was very in keeping with the style of this continental feel bar. Will be calling again and I loved the place.

Great place for a cozy drink for two! Rum & Fizz is conveniently located toward the end of the high street/ St Mary's. Drinks are handcrafted with beautiful fresh fruit garnishes, the staff is friendly and we love the atmosphere. Part of the charm is the stunning decor - wood floors, tiled and wallpapered walls, eclectic decor and various types of seating arrangements, from banquettes to low slung oversized leather arm chairs. We are a fan! We've been numerous times and would highly recommend.

Amazing bar, amazing cocktails but please please stop the bouncer smoking giant cigars in the arcade, ruined my experience.

Best espresso martinis in Cardiff!

Have been here a couple of times now, and tried a few of their cocktails. They are all good, and skillfully made by the people behind the bar, though generally not cheap. Decor is dimly lit and intimate, which is good. Can be a bit crowded, but that's a sign of the places popularity I guess! Will go again!

Just called in for a cocktail 🥂bearing in mind it's the run up to Christmas 🙄 ordered a porn star martini only to be told to you haven't any prosecco 😳 really 🤣🤣 pathetic I would be charged the same price too if you haven't got prosecco then you should give champagne or call to a local shop and buy it 🙄 manager needs re-training 👀

Was refused entry because I had an expensive pair of trousers that looked liked jogging bottoms. Frankly in this day and age that’s absolutely disgusting. We went to the more upper class cocktail bar a few doors down instead…no problems getting in there!

There is no doubt that this bar has atmosphere in (ice) bucket-loads. Its like an exclusive basement jazz club (something that Cardiff has lacked since the demise of the ORIGINAL Gibb's Jazz club in Churchill Way). I like the way they play some smooth jazz sounds (Herbie Hancock etc) and the vibe is very chilled out which seems to be bringing the punters in who, of course, also enjoy a comprehensive selection of interesting drinks. However, the following is inexcusable, especially in our world of germs and viruses, and with Covid still lurking in the shadows, particularly Wales: The cup I was given for my tea was the filthiest I've ever been given in ANY establishment - EVER - and the teapot had a great splodge of food on the side - quite revolting. The albeit friendly chap serving did come back with replacements, but the cup was also quite dirty (the same cup after a wipe?). There is no excuse for this in 2023, and the bar staff are trying to clean cups in darkness, rather than send then downstairs to be cleaned properly in the kitchen - where there is BRIGHT LIGHT. I would appreciate it if Ms Stevens, who replies to these posts, kindly addresses my complaint and includes some positive plan of action regarding cleanliness and hygiene. If she does, then I will continue to visit Rum & Fizz and (their adjacent sister venue) Coffee Barker (which ALSO occasionally insult customers with grubby cups), but until then I may give both places a miss. (No wonder the above two businesses are rated an embarrassing 2 out of 5 by health inspectors. The report states that they fail badly on "structural compliance" with their actual HYGIENE rated as only "satisfactory" - not even "good", let alone "very good".) I get the distinct feeling that there is an attitude that essential hygiene and cleaning are "borrrrrrring". I also get the impression that there is NO ONE monitoring standards. When was the last time the owners (Mr & Mrs Barker - not local) did a thorough spot check on hygiene and cleanliness at their own venues? This is a great shame, as this is just one of a few Cardiff's top independent spots owned by the Barkers in Castle Arcade. How would Mr/Mr Barker feel if on inviting them both round for a cuppa I presented them with filthy cups? They certainly wouldn't want MY "hospitality" again. If the manager fails to comment below and fails to promises a "hygiene plan of action", then I will simply assume that they, and the owners, simply do not care.

Nice place for a drink and to chill

They didn’t let us have a drink here, because we arrived with our Cancer Night Shine Walk T-Shirts. 😂 Last Friday we took part on the Cancer Research UK Fundraising Walk, called Cancer Night Shine Walk. After the 10 Mile walk we were all happy but tired, so we decided to have a last drink all together before heading Home. So happy to have done the walk, the organisation of the Event was fantastic…. With laughter and happiness we went to Rum & Fizz and 2 Security People stopped us. We, a group of 7. They looked at us and said: Sorry guys dressed like that you can’t come in. I asked: its because of our T-Shirts?? Yes! 😅 Wooow!! We really wondered but didn’t wanted that nothing disturbed our good mood at that moment. It was such an emotional night for us. We headed to the other side then, to the Welsh House. A waitress and a Boy saw us and our Shirts and said: Oh, Well Done guys 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 We will put the outdoor heater on in a second for you. So glad for this. Because then we still felt pretty warm but minutes later we started freezing a bit 😅 They were pretty nice over there 😃 And drinks were also Fab at Welsh House ! And we were not the only Cancer Night Shine ✨ Walkers at Welsh House either. ☺️

Loved this place. Amazing variety of drinks and mixers. Staff err able to give recommendations. Little pricier than I’d usually pay but worth it. Super clean, cool atmosphere and nicely decorated. Great place to hide from the rain and ended up having a couple more than planned!

Fantastic atmosphere and staff. You pay for the quality of the drinks - excellent! Drinks were quirky and different to other more traditional places. Toilets were very good and clean. Large range of rums, as well as other alcohols and soft drinks too. Efficient and skilled staff members. Would visit again.

We ordered a traditional breakfast and a tea and latte. The breakfast arrived 35 minutes later. The food was cold and the sausage was like leather. The butter was so cold it couldn’t be spread. When asked for sauces to accompany the food the man rolled his eyes at me.

Cool pub with loads of seating.

Decor; one can see its been done on a budget trying desperately to be posh/quirky but just looking like a cheap attempt to be pretentious. Staff; average Menu; below par, Food; Distinctly average for the price. Drinks; mainline spirits such as smirnoff, way over priced, good selection of others (at inflated prices though) Overall impression. A bar that's trying hard to be something that it's not, a bar where, people who are more style than substance want to be seen, where shallowness and a veneer of middle class sits amongst a decor of cheap tat. It's the place where those that like to pretend that thier well to do go, people with real class and cash go to real class venues, and usually pay less, not places like this, cheaply done and without a modicum of class.

It’s warm, clean. The atmosphere it’s also really comfortable. Outside is warm as well. I can suggest the whiskey sour bourbon. A good taste of the whiskey and not a strong bitter after taste. Good balanced

Lovely place but the 30 minute bar queue (it was a match day) and almost £80 bill for 4 G&Ts (no excuse... but i bet they'd claim the useless foot long leaf cost a quid) detracted from the experience a lot

Called in during a break in Cardiff - just fabulous atmosphere, great drinks and superb music. A very stylish place. Very friendly staff.

What an abseloutle little dream of a place!. Stumbled upon this one and so happy I did!. The vibe just takes you somewhere exotic. The drinks are pricey but so worth it!. The decor is so different and quirky I love it!. Pictures on the ceiling ? Why the hell not!. Bar staff were amazingly welcoming for our first time!. Helping adive cocktails and froendly banter. definitely won't be our last visit!. Highly recommended!!.

OK, so it's probably not the cheapest place in Cardiff to have a drink, but as soon as you walk through the doors, it just looks so cosy and inviting. Certainly lives up to its name, as I've never seen so many rums on offer. After sampling a few, we had to force ourselves out as it was just too relaxing. Don't think we'd choose to eat there, but we'll certainly be returning. Loved it. 👍🏻

Well, the reaction I had when I walked in and was waiting at the bar was who did the interior design and how their imagination came up with this scheme. It's really impressive. The bar staff were more than helpful, especially when I ordered a cocktail off menu. Beautiful place, and I don't know why maybe the way it was lit they had the most beautiful real Xmas tree I think I've ever seen. Highly recommend this place.

27 December, about 1.30pm We popped in from the acarde as it looked nice inside. Unfortunately, looking in was the highlight. I ordered 2 paninis and tea. Firstly, you have to pay up front before the food arrives. I never like this. Its not McDonalds... Also, no cash accepted, also annoying when I wanted to pay cash. After some confusion about the table number, the food arrives. One of the paninis is not what we ordered. I let the guy behind the bar who took the order know. He's not fussed but offers to get another one for us. I tell him we want to eat together and only have 30 mins. He shrugs. The cutlery is wrapped in a napkin, I go to grab a fork to eat the salad but the napkin is crumpled and damp as if someone has used it already. The underside of the panini I am eating is black and burned. The other seems better. Salad is just leaves from a supermarket mix, no dressing, no evidence of effort at all. It's easier to just walk out and say nothing, they already have my money. I get the impression that they don't care anyway.

Can't believe I've never been here before. Love the vibe and decor felt like i was back in New York. Great for a couple or small group will definitely be back

I come here every weekday for a coffee..it's one of my favourite interiors for a bar or cafe that I've ever visited anywhere nestled in Castle Arcade...it's a great place to sit, relax and drink a lovely house blend cappuccino or Mojito.

One of the most overrated/overpriced places in Cardiff - much like its sister Gin & Juice. Very glam tack so does well with the jeans and shoe brigade. The rums etc are all fine, no real complaints in that regard.

First time visiting this establishment and the ambience and atmosphere was lovely. However when going to order food I have been told that no food orders being taken any longer as they are overrun. It is 1pm on a Saturday afternoon and as you can see by the picture I have added the place is not overrun. Also there were people who were eating at their tables. Very Very disappointed.

After getting a table and preparing to order lunch we were then told that the kitchen closed at 2.30 although the online menu shows lunch is served till 3? Very disappointing

Had just one cocktail with my partner here and it was excellent , well made and tasted fantastic , we definitely be back to try more !

Odd wine glasses in a really cool bar

On ordering a reasonably priced rum, the bar staff dropped a large lump of ice into the glass and poured the rum over it. Dead, killed the rum stone dead, all flavour lost, why?

Had breakfast at Rum & Fizz with friends. Propper English style dish. The staff was very polite and complementary orange juice of the house as they forgot to bring it the first time. Good prices also.

A nice relaxing place though not sure why l got charged £43 for 3 rum laced drinks???When the average price/drink is around £10. This happened yesterday afternoon and served by the short male barman. It was my first visit there a my last. Look out for this scam!
