Avoid!! Food was terrible, cold and over priced and don’t answer the phone. Was delivered 2 hours late. See photo of the £24.50 crispy duck. Just Eats didn’t provide a refund

My partner and I came to Rui for an anniversary dinner after a wonderful takeaway a few months ago, and we were equally as delighted by the delicious in-house meals and the friendly member of staff who served us. The choice of meals was enormous and everything on the menu looked incredible, we had such a hard time deciding what to eat — and what we did order was delivered in a very reasonable time, tasted amazing and came with very generous portions. The lotus root in particular was divine. Additionally, the server on staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We very much hope to return.

Rui is a traditional Szechuan Chinese restaurant catering for Chinese market in Bath… that said order from the Chinese menu… best dumplings, stir fried beef is absolutely delicious, steamed soy Bass amazing … egg fried rice lovely. Obviously from reviews duck is not their strong point, Great staff and always friendly. Family portions so seems expensive, but actually very reasonable. Check it!

Truely authentic Chinese, excellent and a rare find. They offer two menus, one is chinglish dishes, more like cheap takeaway style; this probaby explains the poor reviews. The other is really authentic and delicious chinese food. For some reason they are reticent to offer the real food to non-chinese.

Quite simply the worst Chinese meal I have ever eaten. Someone else commented on the “crispy” duck and I should have heeded the reviews first - it was indeed like boiled minced unrecognisable fowl of some sort and cost about £25 for a supposedly “half “ duck. The other dishes were little better. Even the “fried” rice was boiled with some congealed egg mixed through. I just do not understand how such a restaurant can exist. The only bright note was a very good value bottle of Oyster Bay Sauvignon blanc. I have never written a review like this but would sincerely advise anyone to give this restaurant a miss.

It is difficult to understand why this restaurant has had such poor reviews. We had a delicious meal of exactly the type of food you would find in Shanghai or North-east China. It was spicy and oily, which is probably not to English taste, but is completely authentic. Three us paid £27 each for 4 dishes, rice and Qingdao beer, which seems (to me at least) excellent value. The service was friendly and helpful. This is a different dining experience to sweet and sour and other Anglicised favourites one finds in most Chinese restaurants in Britain and should be celebrated and enjoyed rather than criticised.

This was not good. We were the only people in the restaurant. The quarter crispy duck starter which cost about £14 looked as if the duck had been put through the mincer and microwaved. We didn’t finish it, just paid for what we’d had and left to find another restaurant.

We ordered takeaway via deliveroo and the aromatic duck was the worst we've ever had. The meat and vegetables were very poor and it came with sweet chilli sauce instead of hoi sin, I've had much better from the supermarket. They should be ashamed about serving this never mind charging £11.50. The sweet and sour prawns were not Hong Kong style and sauce was watery. Very disappointing from what is a supposedly a "authentic" chinese food. Will not be ordering again.

Not good first time we have used Deliveroo No problem with that except they rated Rui high that’s why we thought we would try Very expensive for what we had £31 Chicken fried rice was just rice with hardly any chicken though they had got the order wrong as it just looked like plain rice Braised chicken was just dry fried chicken with bits of bone and gristle Should have looked at the reviews first before we ordered

We had a takeaway last night. Annoyingly I was charged extra for delivery "due to changing my address" which is not accurate. This was after having to drag a pin across a map so beware!! We ordered a beef with cumin dish which could have less onions and more beef but was delicious; very peppery; seshjuan tofu which was lovely; soft and light and a vegetable dish of aubergine and French beans. Because I cooked our rice at home this was enough food for 2, so the cost means a more expensive takeaway than normal. However, the food arrived hot, is very fresh and beautifully spiced. Anyone with an aversion to chilli would not be happy!

3.5 stars overall - but rounded up to four. We ordered bbq ribs, crispy fried beef, egg fried rice, plain rice, chicken chow mein and sweet and sour chicken balls. I supplemented the meal with my own slow cooked pork in a 5-spice sauce. This is a basic Chinese takeaway that seems to be doing ok as a business. I’ve moved house recently and this is now my nearest takeaway. I’ve been driving past it for years and always wondered what it was like. Now I know. It is a basic takeaway doing the standard stuff. Not terrible but not fine dining. The one star reviews are just as unrealistic as the five star reviews in my opinion. The ribs were fine. Tender enough and sauce not too overpowering. Not as tough as I’ve had from other takeaways in Bath recently, so a thumbs up, overall. Sweet and sour chicken balls was the standard bits of chicken battered and deep fried and served with a pot of luminous bright red gloopy sauce. No vegetables were harmed (or used even) in the making of this dish. Separate sauce is appreciated - chicken still crispy. A classic of old school takeaways. It was what I expected and I wasn’t disappointed. The crispy shredded beef was for my daughter. Not much beef compared to the batter in this one. (I’ve had similar before, so I think this is the style of this dish.) And because it was served in the sauce in a sealed container it had no great chance of being crispy when I’d got the food home, despite being close by. I’ve had better but this wasn’t as terrible as made out in other reviews. Chicken chow mein was a generous portion. Salty but not too bad. I would have liked the option of some Chinese leaf / Pak Choi - or some broccoli or something, but this might not be that sort of takeaway! Staff seemed friendly. Got some free prawn crackers and a calendar. Freebies always go down well. All served on time, and hot enough. Not too expensive nor would you expect it to be. The best dish I ate was the slow cooked Chinese style pork. Oh hang on. I cooked that, sorry! Overall this was fine, as expected and I will be back, especially as I’m close by now.
