We spent an hour here to use the wi fi so we ordered tuna paninis and coffee. Food was ok and coffee was on point. Lots of seats and sofas to choose from. Clean. Nice Xmas atmosphere.

Nice coffee and atmosphere but not all the staff are friendly or even smile. If you’re working servicing the public then surely you need to look as though you’re enjoying it?!

Flat white today on point. Superbly presented which isn’t always the case. Well done!! Really enjoyed. Heather made the coffee and Olly brought it to the table. Nice to have a smile in this busy world we live in 😀😀

My friend and I met in the coffee shop having not seen each other for a few months and had plenty to chat about. There were at least FOUR dogs in there. One was a great big Dalmatian. Other smaller dogs around as well. One started to yelp. The others followed. If another dog came in, they all got excited. It was a nightmare. Never again. We will find somewhere else to go.

We went here for a quick coffee and a slice of cake. Waited 10 minutes for the coffee, in a quiet time of day. Coffee leaving an extremely bitter and strange taste, hence why we left most of it. The 20 minutes we were there, listening to the two colleagues behind the till moan about working hours, pay and life in general. Not great! This then resulted in us leaving, as we felt extremely uncomfortable in this situation. Will not be going back.

Dropped in for a coffee and bite to eat last Sunday at 4:15. Went to sit at at table in rear of cafe but were told by manager that the whole area was closed because they had cleaned it. We were forced onto the only available remaining small and uncomfortable table in the crowded front of shop (ironically that table hadn't been wiped) What's the point of closing half the business area nearly an hour before closing? It's not the first time this has happened to us and we've seen it happen to others too. We told our friends about this and they said they have stopped going into Rubens because, on a number of occasions, they've had staff brushing and mopping up around them while they're eating. This has been up to an hour before closing time. Just to make things even less appealing, recently there appears to be a developing tendency towards increasingly loud "music". Again, judging by comments from fellow customers, we are not alone in our criticism. Not the place it used to be. We're going elsewhere in future.

Called in on a Sunday morning prior to getting the bus at the terminus next door. On the blackboard behind the counter it clearly stated Breakfast muffins. I enquired what I could have on one, and was told in an unsmiling surly manner we don't cook any breakfast stuff, what you see is what we have. This consisted of crumpets, tea cakes, croissants and Danish pastries, that was about it. We ordered the crumpets and tea cake and coffees. The coffees were served, not asking who was having what, just put on the table. The tea cake wasn't even warm. If they don't want to be jn customer service, don't work there. Also the who I think was the manager was sat at a breakfast bar near us was sneezing throughout and wiping his nose on his arm and then after one sneeze, wiping the bar top with his hand, very hygienic considering what we have just been through over the last 2 years.

We popped in to Rubens for a coffee a few days ago. We ordered at the counter but unfortunately the lady who served us made no effort to smile or be pleasant. We went to sit in the rear courtyard and waited for our drinks. After they arrived and I had poured some milk into my coffee, I noticed that the milk jug was very dirty inside so when the same lady walked past, I pointed this out to her. Her response was "Ok", not "sorry" or "Oh, I'll change that for you. Very poor. A different staff member brought another jug which was just as dirty. We have had take out drinks a few times and they have been fine, but really disappointed with the sit-in experience.

The 'more mature' female member of staff is consistently rude, NEVER smiles, is NEVER welcoming. Unlike the other staff members who are friendly and helpful and always greet with a friendly smile. Its such a shame, this is not an isolated incident - its is every time I go in when she's there - Maybe she just doesn't like the look of ME!

Shop clearly states on the front door that they opens at 7:30, however the shop assistant, with an unfriendly face, was very quick to rudely say they were closed. This was a surprise to me as a customer had just left ‘with coffee in hand’ but no doubt this was “mates rates”. Historically staff are rude in this dated establishment, but when I need a coffee I will be definitely visit costa, sister or Wilde over this place any day.

Was waiting for my friends to join us while we ordered, a male member of the team very rudely came over and said if your friends arnt here in a minute I'm moving you, you can't sit here. We were at a 4 table and our friends were no longer than 5 minutes after we arrived.

The service was 1st class. The coffee and food were delivered to my table, thus making it easier to me sit down at table. As I have carpel tunnel in both wists. I mislaid my eunsackat the Heswall about 4 weeks ago. I shopping at Aldi and saw 2 members of and said that they found my rucksack. 1 of members staff confirmed that was locked in the office. I rang them this afternoon and arranged to me the member of staff. I was reunited with rucksack. I would highly recommend a visit to Heswall Rubbins on Telegraph Road next door to bus station

We had pancakes and tea when we went, the pancakes were delicious and the portion size was very generous. Staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was to much trouble, they even have me cream as an extra with my pancakes. Thank you so much we will return.

We had amazing pancakes today- banoffee and mixed fruit, portions are huge, enough for two people! Staff were friendly and helpful. We definitely be back soon to try more flavours!

Never again will i visit here. Rude staff the man and woman behind counter were incredibly rude and unhelpful my coffee was cold i asked for it to be heated up for the guy to roll his eyes at me and them both give out about me asking after sitting down. Tables were filthy cups were dirty had stains and lipstick marks. Be sticking to wylde coffee next time as much more welcoming clean accomadating and alot better tasting coffee. Consider retraining staff on customer service and hygiene!

Dirty tables, unfriendly staff, FLIES and cold soup. Steer clear, there are plenty of better places to eat in Heswall.

Visited here on 2/9 to get some food and drinks. Unfortunately there was limited seating due to how busy it was but we were served quickly. We ordered 2 coffees and 2 lots of Lemon & Sugar pancakes. We were told it would be a short wait for the food as there was a family before us who had ordered food also. The drinks arrived quickly and the food around 10 minutes later to our delight. The pancakes were delicious and we cannot fault the quality of drinks or service in which the staff were very pleasant even though they were very clearly busy. Will definitely return in the future.

Service poor, food poor. Waitress swearing under her breath, dirty cutlery. Would not recommend this coffee shop. Wasted £27 on what was a very disappointing Birthday brunch experience.

Apparently paying in excess of £17.00 did not entitle me, the paying customer, to civility at this coffee shop. A female member of Staff informed me, that the front door (1 of 2), may not be closed on this breezy day, as the Staff behind the counter were "dying" from the heat!We certainly won't be rushing back for more of that attitude. Heswall has a number of other coffee shops to visit.

Had a quick coffee and a couple of pastries. The pastries were good and the coffee is what you’d expect. We like it in here.

My daughter, son in law, their newborn child and I visited here earlier this week. Although the tables were cluttered, one member of staff did make room for us and cleaned the area. We had decided to have a light snack and a drink whilst the baby was fed. An offer on the door stated a hot panini and small drink were available for £5.50 after 12. Admittedly it was late afternoon so the selection was poor. We asked for the £5.50 deal to get a snapped reply that “ you only get that up to 10.30” and she then turned her back on us. After such a rudely toned reply, we decided not to stay as we would be paying a lot more for a choice of panini we didn’t really care for on top of the full price for a drink. On leaving we again read the offer clearly affixed to the door. The staff should make themselves aware of their own adverts, learn to be more polite or at least offer an alternative and that way they won’t lose custom. We won’t be returning soon.

Friendly and accommodating just for refreshments 1 cappuccino and a large mug of tea.We did not eat as we only just had a full English at our hotel.However the staff were cheerful and helpful I wanted a large mug of tea this was provided with a cheery smile nice relaxed atmosphere Many thanks to all the staff

Popped in today as not tried this branch in Heswall before & had a gorgeous Banoffee Muffin & partner the breakfast muffin. Not only was the food & drink excellent we had everything brought to us by smiling staff.

Popped in for a quick coffee almost put off by the lengthy queue to be served but persevered than had to hunt for a table always difficult when solo. Coffee and cake fresh and tasty.

We regularly call and have a coffee at Rubens as we like their blend of coffee and our Granddaughter likes the baby chinos - with a flake. The staff are always welcoming which adds to the experience

Lovely, local coffee shop in Heswall with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Good choice of coffees, sandwiches and cakes to choose from at reasonable prices. Large seating area outside at the back and front of the shop.Drinks available for take out too.

Had a, coconut milk latte in Birkenhead on Tuesday. Asked for one here on Wednesday, £1.40 more expensive! Asked for comment via website but no response, price on other Heswall cafes £2.20. After paying £1.80 for toast I had to butter myself, I do feel a bit mugged off. Staff are lovely. Clientele arguing in the corner which ruined my visit.

I love Rubens coffee and the staff know how to make an awesome latte. Friendly, chatty and always smiling, the Baristas here are fab. And the lemon drizzle cake is 10/10

Yes Jamie has nailed the flat white. The best for a long time!! His last one was good this one surpassed it. Well done! So many offer this beverage so few come up with goods.

Today we visited here on our way home and all I can say was the standards are horrendous the Cafe was dirty table was sticky lipstick stains on our cups not to mention the rudeness of staff I couldn't believe it, I politely asked one of the guys to wipe our table as it was sticky he wasn't impressed it was as if it was our fault. Our coffees were barely hot but to be fair the art on top was nice really need the staff to be trained properly on hygiene and customer service. Won't be back to any of the Rubens stores!!!!

It's so refreshing to have a coffee that has been made properly; that's what you get at Rubens, every time! It's a great coffee shop and I've been in twice this week, same great service and tasty coffee. Keep up the great work!

Cannot see a place to review the Bebington Rubens coffee shop so will note here that we’ve cancelled a business meeting at the Bebington shop as the WiFi is 0/10 and Vodafone 4G cannot get a signal there either. Fix your WiFi!!

Lovely flat white & smiley service. Great area at the back. Coffee expected priced but almost £4 for a milkshake is a lot & really should have a child’s size as they’re the target audience.

Era temprano para una cita, así que pasó por aquí y tomamos un café en la parte trasera en una hermosa mañana soleada de domingo. Café es excelente y era bonito y tranquilo (aunque me imagino que no tanto cuando hay muchos buses que venían a la estación de autobús en la puerta de al lado).

Clasifico Café rubens como uno de los mejores que puede comprar. Rubens es una tienda Heswall café verdaderamente amable. Sentarse fuera y te llevan. Agradable aspecto pasteles aunque no participar. Hay asientos en la parte delantera y la trasera. Wc precioso y limpio.

Not too familiar with Heswell, but found Ruben's after a quick online search. The cafe's interior is lovely, in comparison to how it appears from the main road. The quality of the coffee and panini was first class! Change from a ten pound note was a nice surprise considering 2 of us ate lunch. I would certainly recommend it to people and will hopefully be back in the area soon to pop back in.

Three staff behind counter. All chatting together... I was ignored. When I was served I felt as though I was an inconvenience. Coffee came ...nice coffee ... but we had drained our cups by time our food came. Very unfriendly staff.

A very pleasant coffee shop in the centre of Heswall. Lovely latte served by very polite young servers. Lots of coffee chairs/settees to lounge in and if you want newspapers to read. Although we didn't participate there were plenty of yummy cakes to try on another occasion.

Stopped in Heswall on Saturday and pleased to fine a coffee house that had an outside area that was dog friendly, it also served excellent coffee, paninis and cakes which made it all the more pleasing. A must stop if your out with the dog.

We've been to Rubens a few times and have always had good coffee and good service. It's just what it claims to be, a coffee shop, no airs and graces, just good drinks and a nice selection of cakes etc to go with it. It's comfortable, sometimes a little bit untidy but a pleasant place to stop and recharge the batteries.

Good coffee - quite mild, and a decent range of muffins, paninis etc. Only had coffee and slices of toast (breakfast), but it was nice ot sit in the leather sofas with the newspaper, and chill.

Went in with my wife, but could not keep my eyes of the beautiful brunette. She glided around and had everything under control plus her rear was fabulous! Even my wife commented. Coffee was delicious, can't wait to return and taste her muffins!!

Good coffee but poor customer service at times.I picked up a flapjack and noticed it contained peanut butter (i'm allergic) which the staff member was not aware of (!) i asked if there was any food/cakes which were nut free and she replied "i don't know" and made no efforts to find out so not very helpful if you have allergies or intolerances.

Had breakfast here - lovely little area to eat out the back and the food was fine - only simple toasties and croissants - but the service was very average. The guy who served us didn't come close to smiling once, cut me off mid- sentence while ordering and made us feel like we were an inconvenience- the girl who brought our food to us was friendly but the initial service was not at all.

We had a really nice little lunch here. I enjoyed the interesting panini while having a nice cup of tea. I will certainly be back.I felt they try just a bit hard to be like Costa etc. Could use a bit of flare but that's not meant in a negative way. Just something to think about.

I visited this shop on a Saturday afternoon, very busy usual lunchtime rush in progress.Both staff members were coping well with a full coffee shop. I take on board other reviews that The selection of sandwiches could be better for different tastes that are now more popular such as vegans or vegetarians. Gluten free things I saw at the counter and were clearly labelled but the staff should have a booklet available which they can look up for ingredients. I have to disagree however that they have more items for children. This is a coffee shop and it is nice to go for a coffee without children running riot. Whom have plenty of places to choose if wanted. they have a nice outside space at the back of there establishment were you can sit weather permitting which is lovely and quiet.

The coffee here is gorgeous! I'm a coffee addict and love coming here on my days off, but the food isn't great i have never been over impressed with any of the sandwiches or cakes, very basic, it's a bit of a let down because I'd go here more often if they had healthier options

We popped in for a coffee and a snack. We asked the ladies on the counter which food was suitable for vegans and one of them said she didn't know what vegan was! The other said they had nothing vegan and offered us something gluten free??So we just decided to have our drinks, but we couldn't have those because we only had a debit card with us and no cash and you have to spend a minimum of £5 to use a debit card. Rubens, this is 2016, lots of people are going vegan or dairy free and most people use debit cards to pay!On a positive, the lady serving was polite and apologised.

Very good for coffee and snack but staff not as friendly as they could be. I visit regularly but they can forget what you ordered and you've drank your coffee before the food arrives. Costa down the road is more friendly and efficient but usual very busy

A great little coffee shop - only fault for us that they offer children's drinks but no 'child friendly' sandwiches. All had tomato, onion or pesto on them. A simple cheese or ham sandwich would have made this 5 stars.

Quiet coffee at Rubens. Good barista knowledge. Nice snacks not too much food on offer but what there is, is well made. Not really a place for small children although have seen a few on occasion!

Visited here a few Friday's on the run whitest children are in ballet, food cheap, drinks cheap, staff unprofessional. Worst ever coffee shop, I don't know how it stays open, run by kids, worst of all though is the food they serve, cheap cakes with awful false cream, and awful drinks that are over priced, need shutting down this coffee shop and something else opening up instead.

Junior staff quality is inconsistent and changes often although their demeanour overcomes the service weaknesses.Owners seen often which is good and manageress is on the ball.A functional run-of-the-mill coffee shop but not a must destination in a small town overrun with coffee shops.

Go in quite regularly usually staff are friendly but mostly on a go slow which is extremely frustrating when you're in a rush and pop in to get a takeaway coffee and it's going on 10 minutes before you're even served and it's not even busy. Girls need to catch a wake up, I ended up walking out.

Not very impressed with limited choice of food. Coffee was tasteless and returned hardly touched for a replacement, which was similarly undrinkable.Outside seating is next to the bus terminal with double decker buses passing within feet of some tables.

If you want a decent ambiance, friendly staff, and a coffee that actually tastes like coffee (and doesn't send your brain into meltdown) I'd really recommend Rubens. Prices are good too. I go here a fair bit, as i find Costa is packed with mums with kids - which I have no issue with ordinarily / however if I want to hold a conversation with someone without having to shout above the din Rubens is the place to go.

Coffee here is really good. There are some pavement seats which on a sunny day are great to chill and people watch. The panninis are a bit disappointing but the cake my kids had went down well. Would return but only for coffee and cake.

One of a small chain of local family run coffee shops. Limited but delicious selection of sandwiches, cakes and drinks. Great service and friendly staff. Loyalty scheme to earn a free coffee.

Delicious scones with clotted cream and jam. Pity the clotted cream was finished however during one of our visits. Opted to take a Tiffin which was not a bad choice. Yummy chocolate with biscuits and raisins. Thumbs up.
