Royal Thai in Milton Keynes

Sorry but that’s it for me, been using this place for years food always been great and have spent many a happy night and enjoyed a great take out.But things have changed for the worse I’m afraid......Have tried but that the last straw for me tonight, I do hope you can turn things back around and we can come back.From a loyal a disappointed customer

food was swimming in fat sauce was runny water. The worst and most expensive takeaway ever. Absolutely unexpected.

We love the Royal Thai and come at least once a week. The food and the service are always outstanding and that is why we keep returning. We usually go for the lunch time option and get the spring rolls and chicken satay and I always go for the Chicken pad graprao and it’s amazing so spicy and tasty! My husband always gets prawns in oyster sauce and the children sweet and sour chicken. All perfect! Highly recommend a visit.

We’ve eaten at Royal Thai a few tomes now. I’m allergic to gluten and dairy, and struggle to find places to eat when I can’t be bothered to cook. The staff at royal Thai are great though- I pick what I would like on the menu and they tell me if I can eat it. There’s so much that doesn’t contain gluten or dairy, I really feel like I get a great choice. I’ve never had any issues with cross contamination and I always end up so full. The food is delicious, I’d definitely recommend it.

So disappointed. Booked online and received a confirmation from the restaurant. Arrived on time to be told that my booking was not listed on a notepad with vague scribbling on it. I assured them that I booked online and had a confirmation mail and the manager then said ‘we told them we were full’. Really? Why did you confirm the booking then?. There was another couple and a family of four that had the same problem although the couple had telephoned and booked which they seem to have lost as well. Get your act together guys, we are trying to support you in these difficult times but you have acted like you don’t need our support - shocking

Excellent food and service. We visited for Sunday lunch and were pleased to have done so. Starters and main and a large glass of red wine for myself and my daughter. We usually have a pub meal when we visit Stony but will be back for a Thai curry at this restaurant next time.

Excellent food as always. BUT SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SANITISATION! Tables so close you could touch the people next to you!!No hand sanitizer. Same laminated menus as always. No sign of them being cleaned between guests. No taking your details for track and trace!Really disappointed. Really shouldn’t be open as not following regulations AND to top it off signs on the walls saying “social distance keep 2 meters apart” when all the tables were less than a meter apart!!!!

Service is fairly average. Beer is expensive and unexciting. Seafood curry cooked perfectly, and I asked for authentic Thai spices, rather than the usual bland Anglicised nonsense, and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and full of flavour and exactly what I was looking for. Jasmine rice also perfect. Pricing distinctly average.

Thank you, our first meal out since lockdown. We had the set meal and couldn’t fault anything, it was lovely to feel nearly normal.

Have used this restaurant for a long time, the food has always been great, and was over the moon when they opened again during lockdown. Had a Thai tapas last week at lunch time, the food was absolutely amazing, will always recommended, please use this restaurant service and food always good.

We ordered a take away for 2 as the restaurant is still closed - the food was delicious despite it! The starters in particular were amazing (chicken satay and spring rolls)Other reviews mention the wait for food was long but our order was ready on arrival, about 15 mins after calling up. Probably best to go when it's quiet, like 8pm

We had had recommendations for this restaurant so we decided to try it as a trat for daiughrts birthday, our favourite chinese being currently closed. We could only have a takeaway due to current situation so rang though our order after struggling to get a reply and we told it would be ready for collection in half an hour but when we got there to collect it took a further 40 minutes to be ready Their manual sytem was clearly unable to cope and they seem to lose our order! The food matched the recommendation and was excellent but the reset of the experence did not match this.

Having phoned through the order two hours previously, turned up to collect it in the reasonable expection it would be ready or almost ready.Sadly not, when I got the front of the queue and asked for it the piece of paper was found and passed to the kitchen to start preparing it. So I joined several others for a long wait - seems I wasn't the only one with this problem. No apologies were forthcoming either.Just to add to the experience the staff, unlike all the other customers there, obviously had zero understanding of the concept of social distancingThe place was only only open for takeaway - Covid-19 regulations had closed the restaurant so they only had the take-away business to get right. How difficult can it be?Food when I finally got it was OK but everything was lukewarm - we had to microwave the lot before we could eat it.In summary, I conclude they couldn't get a Pi55 up in a brewery right - will never darken their doors again.

This is a friendly and enjoyable restaurant in Stony Stratford. The food is really tasty and they provide great wine to go alongside your meal. I've been several times, the atmosphere is always great.

Our second visit to this very popular restaurant this time as a table of four. Gosh it was a busy Saturday night so very very noisy. Note to self: not Saturday night next time. Food was excellent, service excellent too. Thank you. Some soft furnishings would help deaden the noise.

We called in for planned lunch around 12.30. The restaurant at that time was empty however by the time we left 1.45 the place was buzzing so it seems popular for high street walk by trade. The food was great , possibly the best Thai food I’ve had for a long time and came to the table nice and hot.My wife and I went off the set menu “A” which was a very good choice for our first visit as the menu available is vast.Friendly service , lovely Resturant area , good seating. The toilets seem to be in the middle of decoration they were a little cold even though the heating was on in the hall leading to the toilets, but they seem to be trying to act on a previous negative review. The toilets are okay.We will without doubt visit again and mention the Royal Thai Stony Stratford to out friends and family as it is a must to try when next in the area.Great place...

Unquestionable the best Thai I’ve been to in the mk area. Fantastic value and really authentic tasty Thai food. The service always comes with a smile! One of our favourites that we retune to time again in stony stratford

I was recommended to this lovely quirky Thai restaurant where we were not disappointed, we were greeted very warmly and service was good too, food was excellent, beautifully presented as reasonably priced too. The added bonus was , both my daughter and her fiancé just returned from Thailand , and this restaurant had the Thai beer Chang available.. they were bowled over as this is not available to purchase here the Uk ! Definitely will return, Lovely restaurant ,

There is no excuse for the terrible disgraceful toilets in this place. They are filthy and need a complete scrubbing and refurbishment, along with the whole of the area out the back. Also, we din't like the chef standing near his cooker in the kitchen using his mobile phone. No wonder they have only 2 stars for their food hygiene rating. YUK!! We wont be back, no matter how nice the food may be.

Wen I walked-in at around 21:00 hours, the restaurant was busy but still a waitress rushed to greet me and made me welcome. I was not happy with the first table she showed me but then she allowed me to have a larger table. The service was fast, efficient and the food very tasty. I had a bowl of seafood soup, Thai lamb curry with jasmine rice and Chinese tea. It was a delicious meal. They had a good wif-fi connection as well.

Visited this week for lunch. Chose the tapas option with squid, dumplings and masaman curry. Excellent food, well presented. Friendly family atmosphere. New chef and water improved an already very good restaurant.

This restaurant, on Stony Stratford High Street, is just lovely. It is welcoming in every way. The staff are friendly, efficient and make you feel that you belong. We arrived for lunch and wanted to hear some important news from one of the group; we were given space and time to talk, with staff arriving to collect drinks and food orders very thoughtfully when we were ready. There is a new menu in which dishes are offered with a choice of different things like chicken and other meat, and tofu - I'm not good at calculating but I reckon with 20 main meals to choose from, and 5 (or so) sorts of alternatives, that is ~ 100 dishes. Each cooked to order, and very good too. The food is fresh, wholesome and tasty. It's the sort of deceptively simple food you'd think you could make at home... but... the Royal Thai adds a touch of magic. It can get busy because it's so good, so, best to book. But do go. It's super good.

A place which always offer a super taste and quality, the pad thai is simply amazing and tasty. The staff is very friendly, I love this place.

We have been to this restaurant about 5 times now and really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the important part, the price. Parking is pretty good. I would recommend booking a table as it does get busy. The staff are friendly as you would expect. The food is delicious and very tasty and they cater for all diets, but do ask anyway. They have a 5 star rating, speaks for itself really. So, if you enjoy Thai food this place is worth the visit. If you didn't know, the town, Stony Stratford has a piece of history the concerns the cock and bull theory as this where it started with two inns, the Cock inn and the Bull inn. Check it out.

Arrived last night for our booked table at 8.30. We could see the restaurant was full. Made ourselves known to the waitress who hardly acknowledged us & then walked away. Two minutes later I approached her again to ask how long it would be to which she dismissed me & said “ask him” & pointed to another member of staff, who was as equally evasive. At that point we decided to leave. We appreciated the restaurant was busy & waiting a while would not have been a problem. They’re people skills were appalling. Definitely won’t be returning.

We went with friends, the food was ok but seemed like it was all made from pre bought curry pastes.

Nice friendly little place,reasonable food,very expensive rice!!!,and 4 small bottles of Chang,small bottles cost nearly £16 !!!!!. Shame,let's the place down,could have had two more mains for that.Dont drink in here. I doubt very much that we'll be back.

Had a takeaway whilst staying at the Old George Hotel. Very quick to be delivered and very tasty. I had the Tom Yum soup and Salt & Pepper squid - both can be recommended.

Sadly on my last two visits to this restaurant I have had inedible tough lamb madsamam. Lovely flavours but meat to tough to eat

Went with friends for a celebration meal. We all found the service to be very good and the food was of a good standard, a very pleasant evening.

Food was pretty poor, not a lot of flavour, sticky jasmine rice was more like boiled rice, the food came out quicker than a takeaway. Service was friendly.

We were able to book a table at the last minute on a Saturday. The food and service were acceptable, but not outstanding.

This was our first visit to the Royal Thai and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and well presented with portion sizes that were just right. The menu offers a good choice of mild and spicy dishes. The service was prompt and friendly. The tables are well placed so you are not too close to other diners. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely return.

Great value set meals in pleasant surroundings served by friendly staff. I brought a friend who had never eaten Thai food, and he was an instant convert! Very good.

Very nice authentic thai food! Very different menu to the standard Thai menus you see on regular basis! We loved the chicken wrapped in bamboo leaves! We did visit there twice recently and we loved the choice of food! Would recommend this place to anyone! You don't see a great decor from outside but the food is the best you would experience in the area!

Well I can’t help compare the wonderful Thai meal we had in Falmouth to tonight’s. The positives the meal was ready very promptly and the flavours were good. Now the comparison, this was a much more expensive meal, with less content, less well cooked so sadly it has put us off.

We were all looking forward to a family birthday last Tuesday evening. Restaurant shut. They could have updated their website which I checked before we left for Stony but no, it said they were open. Been before and food is good but nothing to write home about.

Although we have been to Stony on many many occasions for Indian we decided it was time to change - we were not disappointed.

If you want very fresh, very tasty Thai which is well served then this is the place for you. Do not be put off by the location or first impression (this is not a criticism, but it reflects the fact this is a simple well run Thai which focuses on food and service).

Visited on a very busy Saturday night booking essential as obviously popular. I found the restaurant a little cramped and very noisy. Food was delivered incredibly quickly almost a little too fast and as soon and your plate emptied it was gone. So only criticism I would have is felt a little rushed. Food was delicious Thai Green Curry and Coconut Rice was exceptional.

We visited here for lunch and had a great experience the food was lovely probably one of the best red curries I’ve had in a long time and the service we received was brilliant

Had a beautiful meal just after we got engaged here. The prosecco is a really amazing bottle and was perfect to celebrate. We got the set menu B and thought that the Pad Thai and the red Thai soup was the best bits from it. Excellent value for money, fresh amazing ingredients and taste.

Wow - didn't expect this fantastic Thai Food.... Wife and I went to try this place as it came recommended. Food was top notch and really authentic. Have been to Thailand and love Thai food but can not seem to get the same taste in England. This place is perfect... Friends took us to the Royal Thai on a Saturday night, it was busy.Staff were friendly and attentive food was excellent menu was varied, and explained all the dishes re whether mild or hot and ingredients.Have been going o Thailand for 15 years sometimes twice a year and this meal was the best I have had out side of Thailand, having read the previous reviews I was surprised at the negative reviews, sometimes people associate curries etc to the Indian style but Thai food is more subtle and fragrant.I know any restaurant is only as good as the last meal served but all the people in my party had a excellent meal Would definitely go again

Been here a few times but not for a while, visited during Stony live week for the Jazz night, the place was almost full.The place has gone from good to average, let's just say it was ok. Fish cake starter was rather greasy and the hot and sour soup was a little bland, green curry main was good. Portion sizes were OK as not to over fill you, drinks were a little expensive. Slight mix up with the order due to language issue but this was soon sorted.

Really looking forward to a Thai meal. So this looked promising. I couldn't believe how amateurish the food was. God knows who cooked it, but it wasn't a Thai chef or even someone who understands thai cooking - or indeed any type of cooking. This was a real kitchen nightmare experience. Never again.......

We've been visiting the Royal Thai for years and always enjoyed a fantastic meal. We went on Saturday evening with friends and I have been ill ever since, it's now Thursday and though I can't prove it I would say I have had a bad bout of food poisoning after eating a prawn dish! It's a shame but I don't feel confident in eating there again.

Great food. The crispy chicken was crisp, the beef was very tasty and the noodles were delicious. The delicious food was all served piping hot and very quickly. Very tasty food and friendly staff on hand. We will be back!

We visited the restaurant for the first time in a while on a busy Saturday night - having had good meals there before. Food quality appears to have dropped. No free prawn crackers and those we paid for were overcooked. Special starter sharing plate was disappointing - greasy toast, overcooked parcels and worst of all insipid satay sauce, thin and flavourless sweet chilli sauce and veg with no bite at all.Coconut flavoured soup was tastyMain courses were average - tasted like they had been reheated and this showed in the seafood and chicken dishes - except for the pad Thai which was good. Sticky rice cam in a plastic bag and was a congealed mess. Only one red and one white wine by the glass option.Bill was cheap. But not good value for money.

.....where do I start!!!! We've been coming here for years and have noticed a gradual decline!!!! Not been for a few months and decided on an impromptu meal out.....BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!It was very poor...made even worse by a 4 year old child cycling round the length and breadth of the restaurant like a bat out of hell after 9pm like something out of 'The Shining'!!!!!.....not really the time or place and TOTALLY unacceptable behaviour from the owners when paying customers are eating food!!!! the waiter even looked uncomfortable!!!! Sauvignon Blanc was good but the meal mediocre and made worse when 'half cut' family member decided to take our card payment and take 3 failed attempts and doing so!!!!!! We're all for family get together and having fun but seriously???? Choose your moment!!!! An evening ruined and we will be reluctant to return.....it was not worth the £60 bill and we voiced this on leaving!!!!! Shame on you Royal Thai!!!!!!!!!!!

Really enjoyed a two course meal here with friends on Saturday night. Service prompt and friendly, food delicious especially the scallops and a surprisingly good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.We were surprised at the reasonably priced bill too!

Great food, excellent value and service, latest visit was as a large group for a friends birthday on a Saturday night and it didn't disappoint!!

This is one of my favourite restaurants but we recently had an exremely average takeaway. They are not cheap so i expect much better.

Visited this restaurant with family and couldn't eat the main. The entrees were alright but the chicken in the mains tasted like it had been microwaved. It is clear that they cook it all up and then reheat it as required! Yuk!It's not the first time we have been here and had the same experience. Although our last visit was a few years ago and we hoped that they had improved since then. Sadly not. Avoid the chicken is all I can say.

This place is a delight! From arrival and throughout the staff were fantastic, so polite and helpful and very efficient. There is so much choice on the menu as well as really good set menu choices. Myself and 3 friends had a wonderful evening, the food as usual was superb, fresh hot and plenty of it. Keep up the good work, we will see you again soon.

I came here with my team as the boss was over for a visit. This is a consistently good Thai restaurant. I have travelled extensively through Thailand and this place takes me back.

My partner and I live in Northampton and are ashamed to say we don't have a "go to" Thai restaurant unfortunately! We've been to them all in Northampton and after visiting Thailand, none of them quite live up so for New Years Eve my partner and I decided to try Royal Thai. When we arrived the lady that greeted us was so friendly and welcoming and gave us a choice of which table we'd like. At first it was quiet but when we left it was packed! We ordered our favourite dishes from the menu...Chicken Satay... Seafood Tom Yum Soup and for main Beef Massaman and Chicken Paenang and I have to say all we're fantastic! Really flavoursome and authentic. The service was attentive throughout and the food was fantastic and we felt that the food was great value for money! We saw some reviews before visiting of people saying it's expensive but we didn't think so at all. The prices absolutely brilliant for the quality of the food when we've seen the quality in some of the other restaurants we've been too that actually charge more. All in all fantastic service, great atmosphere, pretty location and most of all delicious food! We'll definitely be making a trip back!!! Michaela & Neil :)

Went mid week for a romantic meal and was very impressed with the high quality of the food. Sharing platter was very well presented with plenty of dips to accompany. Excellent for those wanting to dip their toes into the world of Thai food. Main course of mixed seafood with noodles and my partners butterfly prawn with jasmine rice were a joy to look at as well as taste. loved the variety of tastes, smells and beautiful presentation.Not the cheapest place you would find but one of the nicest in terms of ambience coupled with top notch food.

Great food great set menu great staff...but for us the live music spoiled it as we couldn't as a group have a conversation without shouting. Others must have liked it, so still 5 stars but we must find which evenings of music to avoid for our next visit

Excellent food which they will spice according to your requirements. The Royal Set menus are great value and all the dishes we had were tasty and the portions were more than satisfactory. You can switch dishes between set menus if they are not too busy. Family run and the staff are extremely polite and efficient

Good selection of Thai inspired dishes with a low level of heat for the English market. I enjoyed a green thai curry and it could have been much more spicy. The owner made us very welcome and the staff were most helpful

We ate here at the beginning of October and had a really nice meal. We had the set menu and the flavours of all the dshes were really good. Service was good. Atmosphere was good. All in all a great experience.

This is my favourite Thai restaurant! It's warm, welcoming and cosy. The staff are lovely and attentive! The food is amazing! I've been for both lunch, dinner and take away on numerous occasions and cannot fault it.

This was always one of our favourite restaurants but it has gone down hillRushed service - serving desert while we were still eating our main - brought bill before we had our coffee - table never cleared of food after each course which was very off putting. Smaller portions and unfriendly, uninterested staff. Very disappointed, will not be going back.

Excellent Thai restaurant located in old market town. Extensive menu, very good food, welcoming staff, reasonably priced. Will be visiting again soon.

this is a little gem never lets you down on service and quality food is superb they even did not charge us for a dish because they did not have the sweet we wanted

I ordered the spicy prawns they were tasty but 4 prawns for £4.95 I won't be returning I could not believe you actually put just 4 in a large container

This is my second visit the last being about a year ago and I was not disappointed The menu choice was excellent and as one of the party was vegetarian there was plenty for them to choose from. The service was great as was the food which was well served.

As ever this unpretentious little restaurant delivered fabulous,well cooked,flavoursome Thai food at reasonable prices. Has always been great value and my family and I had a lovely meal on Monday evening.

I heard about this restaurant from a friend to say how good it is, me and my partner came here to eat and the food was so tasty. The customer service is excellent from all the staff, they are welcoming and very polite. It gets busy here often so I would book a table to save dissapontment. The second time we came here we ordered take away in the restaurant to go and they discounted it by 10%, again we was not dissaponted, love this place. Must try it out

Stayed over in Stony stratford and after taking a stroll decided to eat at the royal thai. One of the best thai restaurants we've eaten and is our favourite cuisine so had high standards.Really friendly staff very attentive and helpful with the menu.I wanted a salty crispy fish and was recommended the cod with celery. It's amazing the flavours are so balanced and fish waa cooked to perfection. Wish I lived close by but will definately return next yr we are here.Recommend the sharing platter Cod with celery and roast duckThank you for a lovely meal out x

Would highly recommend the special lunch menu during weekdays, the food arrives quickly and tastes wonderful, lovely base notes. The service is great too. One of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been too.

Was working in Milton Keynes and got a taxi out to Stoney Stratford and I was glad I did there was four of us and we all loved our starters and main course two bottles of very Chile Merlot and a few beers all for £110 with a tip,,will come here again

This is a regular haunt of friends and our first visit was excellent. We all ordered different dishes so had the chance to taste different styles of food.We have friends who own the Luk Tai Cricketers restaurant in Cambridge and we tend to judge other Thai food against theirs and although we ordered familiar dishes there were subtle differences in recepies. None the worse for that though!Well worth a visit.... I could have taken a little more fresh chilli in the Som Tum salad!

We visited this evening, the restaurant was pretty empty which I found strange for a fri night. We had the set menu B which was nice , nothing to shout about but average. Banana fritters were good, I normally hate them! Drinks were warm and as flat as a pancake.

I've eaten here many times over the last five years or so. The current owner has maintained the high standards of this small popular Thai restaurant. It is quite a small room, so I would recommend making a reservation at the weekend.The menu is quite extensive with many of the main dishes being available made with chicken, beef, pork, prawns or duck, so there is a good choice. Items are clearly marked with 2, 1 or 0 chillies giving you a good indication of the heat of the dish.Personal favourite to start is the Royal Mixed sharing Platter which includes chicken satay, spring roll, prawns on toast, golden parcels of chicken and steamed tiger prawns with a spicy chilly sauce.To follow there is a good selection but the curries are well flavoured and different to an Indian curry, we also like the chicken Pad Thai which comes with noodles, beansprouts and an intriguing lattice cover made of egg, it has ground peanuts on the side.If you go with someone who doesn't like "foreign food" they do a few English dishes served with chips including sausage, chicken, steak and fish, but you really do need to try the Thai dishes as they are excellent.Incidentally if you're around at lunch time the business man's lunch is restrictive but excellent value.

Have driven past this place a few times and never went in.... Decided to have dinner there last night WOW I can say I will be back.... food excellent and staff very attentive... Really enjoyed the meal and will surely be back there soon.... Hard to find a good thai place here in MK, but certainly recommend it to any one who wants a great night out.... I am not the only one who likes it as it was quite busy.
