Thai Modern Restaurant in Milton Keynes

What an amazing find. The food was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend it.

Food was really good but the portions were sized to feed a bird. We ordered the expensive selection across the four of us and it turned as out it was literally a starter, one of each item severed; the garnish of lettuce etc was superb but we turned up to eat not admire the food. At 32 quid a portion someone is taking the mick and then they add a surcharge on top. Anyway safe to say the minuscule taste of the food we were presented with was very tasty but it was literally a taste. Won't bother with this expensive over rated restaurant, clearly we're not the clientele they're targeting... oh and im sure this will ruffel some feathers but im not going to pay a surcharge for someone to deliver food to may table, surely the difference i pay for dine in or takeway is covered in the price difference. Just saying. So...thanks but no thanks

Excellent lunch. Good selection. Quite short lunchtime hours but quick service.

I was really disappointed! Service was slow and I got a steel wool piece in my mouth from the Thai green curry and they didn’t replace it! But took it off the bill.. made me very uncomfortable. I left hungry as went totally off my food. They kept apologising but I think I expected them to apologise and take it away and replace it, but they just left it there for me to look at!

Over priced for for ultimately overrated food, weak portions and then a 10% surcharge (service charge) gets added to your bill 😏 this isn’t London .. not even a complimentary mint with your bill, all in all not a great experience! & one I will be sure to avoid in future 👎

Lovely food, great service and friendly staff

Absolutely loved this place ! Had to finally write a review after going back another two times. Food was great, service was great atmosphere was great and wow those wood carings are amazing. The tables, chairs and decor really make the place.

Lovely place and worth a visit. Great food

Hadn’t been here for a while so when we decided on Thai cuisine it was good reason to return. The restaurant is very large and beautifully furnished. The staff are friendly and look great I their traditional dress. The menu has all the usual favourites with some not often seen in other places. We both had the duck starters and for the mains we had the pork stir fry and chicken with shiitake mushrooms. The quality of the food was excellent and cooked perfectly. We plan to visit again very soon.

Food wasn't the best. Taste was questionable on some of the dishes. Wouldn't recommend to a vegetarian or vegan as the food just lacked quality. Its a shame as the interior is amazing.

Omg , I’m sorry for this, but food just wasn’t for me or I don’t know because we both left after one bite , lovely service but part from that, I think duck dead year ago , smells so bad , and still raw food ! Rice just wet and no taste at all , I miss usually Thai tastes.. we been last week in Royal lemington spa ( same or similar company restaurant and it’s so wonderful, that one disappointed!! Literally I’m not gonna go back , ever ! Avoid!!

Probably the best Thai food that I have tried in the UK. They have a lot of variety. The vibe is very authentic and the staff is super friendly and helpful. One of the best in Milton Keynes! Do try when you are in town. Also it is very reasonably priced.

Set meal minimum order is 2 sets, and you need to share by yourself.

Go to place when it comes to Thai in MK. Extensive menu but can't go wrong if you don't deviate too far from the greatest hits. Red prawn curry in particular is great.

Rude staff , particularly towards us , reasons pretty obvious Frankly , these lot trapped in 1900 should perhaps realise , that not everyone is going to look like them doesn’t mean they should be rude from the moment we sit down

Short notice booking nothing was to much trouble. Staff friendly and welcoming, the food was presented and delicious and a fast service. Having visited Thailand a few months ago it was lovely to see all the beautiful decor and features we loved it and will definitely return. It was our friends first time eating Thai and they said they would definitely return also, So thank you X

Last night was without doubt the first time that I visited a restaurant and left absolutely starving. The dish was so small and really was not worth the price. The food tasted good but I don’t expect to leave hungry, get home and need to cook something. Very disappointing. 😢

We have been going to Thai Modern for years. They provide excellent quality every time. We love every single dish there. They are super clean, and the atmosphere feels like you are in Thailand. We used to go there for the Sunday buffet, but unfortunately, they don't do it anymore. Highly recommended. It's one of the best restaurants in Milton Keynes!

Avoid this place. Restaurant was half empty but we were turned down by the staff. Indians / south asians are not welcome here. They even told us that they were closed (at 7pm) when we could see them serving others.

Very attentive service and delicious food with fresh ingredients. Everything came out piping hot. The atmosphere was nice.

Worst service. Paid for an item never pre-ordered and rude attitude by that ground staff and arguing for his mistake. Food though low quantity, taste is very decent. For all these bad service, our team still ended up paying useless service tax around £25.

Absolutely the best Thai food I have ever eaten. Coming from Canada we are blessed with enormous food choices and Thai is always favourite. We luckily stumbled upon this Thai restaurant in Milton Keynes. The decor and the atmosphere is so authentic. The food is definitely the star. The flavours are what Thai food should be. The freshness of the vegetables is appreciated. You can tell that the owners put their hearts and souls into building this restaurant. You have done a wonderful job.

Very modern building with carved tables and chairs Outside are elephants and Thai lady carvings. The food was hot and tasty. Staff were pleasant and friendly Restaurant had a large party arrive and then it became very noisy, the background music couldn't be heard.

Very small portion. Pad Thai “side” (£5) has the same portion as the full main course chicken pad Thai (£15) which is unbelievable. The price is all wrong on the web menu as well. See the attached pictures. They’re the same portion size. Shocking. The pad Thai is so greasy as well. Terrible.

We enjoyed our dinner at Thai Modern Restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. The food tasted good too and it was all very filling. Update: ordered takeaway and the full portion size phad Thai was the same size as the sides of phad thai. The online price indicated it was also 3x the price. When I called about it they said it's a different price and excused the small portions. They were mildly apologetic but ultimately dismissive. I will not be returning.

Good quality and authentic Thai Cuisine. A hidden gem in Milton Keynes where the price is mid-range to moderate and the service always good. A good venue for business or social lunches or evening dinner for couples or larger parties.

Good food, but I was hoping that would be more spicy. We orde a set for 2 people and it cost us around 30£. Originally Thai furinture, freandly Thai stuff. Definitely will come back again.

I would call it the best place in Milton keynes to have Thai food. The service is soo good and the people there are so welcoming. Food is top notch and I like how they place all mains on top of a candle to keep it warm until the last bite. Would definitely revisit.

Just fabulous, can't recommend enough. Good was mouth watering, service the best I have experienced in a long time, can't wait to try the rest of the menu

This was quite possibly the worst meal I’ve ever eaten in my whole life. I come from a family of chefs and hotel professionals and I am truly shocked at how bad this was and that I was silly enough to pay for it. So; firstly the food came so quickly within five minutes of ordering - this told me that it could not possibly in any way have been cooked to order and must have been leftovers microwaved. The curry sauce should have been thick and creamy with a dreamy aromatic flavour but sadly was like a tin of cheap soup and very poor quality meat cut into weird shapes and resembled dog food. The noodles were cold and clumped together like some kind of mass of worms and the rice had no coconut flavour and was cloying and generally unpleasant. We complained to the manager and he was stern and unpleasant so we paid as we felt we didn’t want a confrontational situation with this guy. I am so angry and disappointed as I was taking my mother out for dinner pre Christmas and it came to £52 for complete rubbish. I was left feeling sick afterwards that I’d spent the money and had such an unpleasant experience. I’m also sad because the venue was stunning and I had really been looking forward to going there for so long. Next time; I’ll cook my own Thai curry. Dr Harriet Garrod

Delightful restaurant. You're made most welcome from the start. Dishes are well prepared and presented. We really enjoyed the sea bass, the green curry and the pineapple rice.

The restaurant was beautifully designed, and the decor was fantastic. However, the food was somewhat lacking. Everything we had ordered was very much soup based. We didn’t really understand the menu and it wasn’t explained to us.

Walked in here at 9.15pm to order take away(simply to test the food in preparation for booking a table for 20 next week) "Help you????" In an aggressive voice was the greeting "Yes, we would like to order two dishes to take out please" The gentleman looked at us as if we had placed an outlandish request, walked into the the kitchen, back out and stated "kitchen closed!!" He could have opted for "Sorry but we are extremely busy and we have a lot of orders to get out in a timely fashion, so you'll be waiting for an unreasonable about of time" Or "Sorry fellas too busy tonight" The contempt with which we were treated definitely means we'll be going somewhere else with our £1500 budget next week Common courtesy costs not a lot either in time nor money

A great Thai restaurant Food was really fresh and flavours zinged. We had spicy grilled prawn dish, fried battered cod in a sweet chilli sauce and chicken Massaman curry. Egg fried rice, garlic rice and plain noodles. Everything was great and faultless. A little on the pricey side but you don't mind when food is good. Will be returning soon!

Felt sooo rushed! Out with friends in couples for two birthday celebrations. Had to order food ahead of arriving due to there being 8 of us. It was like being in a school dinner hall, everything was so fast, plates being banged down for starters, then being cleared up again, finished starters and they were putting out the pots to keep the food warm for the main course, everything happening so quickly, and there were many people clearing and serving around you. I asked if we could have some time they said yes but next thing the main course was being put out. Felt like we were constantly ducking from one side to the other while the waiters and waitresses moved things from the table and put things on it, everything was almost thrown down, it wasn't pleasant. Food was average, had shared starters, some things were ok, some not. Overall, not an enjoyable experience I'm afriad. Quite disappointing when you want to spend time with friends chatting in a relaxing environment.

We visited Thai Modern after an absence of 3-4 years because the Sunday buffet stopped. The restaurant is right off the beaten track but is more than worth the effort. It’s authentic and the staff wear traditional Thai uniform which contributes to the authentic atmosphere. The menu has a lot of choice, we had ribs and spring rolls to start and Ped Phad Khing ( duck) and fillet steak slices with brocalli. The food was all very good and they brought me two pots of different chillies as I mentioned I like spicy food. The service was very friendly, helpful, and efficient - no long wait for another drink for instance. We will definitely return.

The waitress saw we were foreigners, thus loudly asking for tips. It caused a really awkward situation. She didn't ask some other tables for the same.

It was not nice for the waitress to ask "do you want to add a tip?" in front of everybody. I feel this embrasses people and kind of pressures customers to pay more. Also she took away every dish immediately when she feels you are finished with one... I am a local and have been here several times, but will not come back again due to the service.

The atmosphere is what stood out at this restaurant. The was good but not spectacular, and the service was efficient. One visit isn't enough to make a comprehensive assessment, so we'll return and update accordingly.

My wife and I visited while in town for the weekend after reading good reviews on this app and we’re not disappointed at all. After recently visiting Thailand for vacation we were keen to have a genuine Thai dinner - not the usual UK palette version - and the staff, ambience and food absolutely nailed it. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner - we will definitely be back when we next visit Milton Keynes.

I walked in today at 6pm and the restaurant was still quite empty. The host at the door looked me up and down and said the restaurant was full and asked me to leave. I had never been so humiliated in my life. I am visiting Milton Keynes from Los Angeles, it was raining, I did not have personal transportation so I was a bit wet when I walked in and was carrying an umbrella. I asked for a table for one and despite the restaurant being empty, the host asked me to leave because they were apparently "full". I didn't press the issue since I was downtown and there are other options. But I hope this review helps someone realize the staff here are very discriminatory and have no qualms about kicking out people they personally don't really like for whatever reason.

Delicious, good prices, superb staff. Book a table as its is justifiably busy. The set menus give a nice range and decent prices, and will feed most hungry customers comfortably. Do heed the spice warnings if heat isn't for you - they don't skimp on the heat.

I love eating here. Tye foid is amazing. Its a good lovely setting, with beautifully carved wooden tables and chairs. Plants hanging on the windows. Highly recommended 👌

Working from home, eating dinner outside my hotel room is a must. I am not bothered eating alone as I do it a couple times a week. When I entered Thai Modern, I felt unwelcomed and a nuissance to what seemed to be the manager/owner. With continually disapproval looks and being rushed through my dinner, it was probably one of the worse dining experiences I've ever had. The food was ok, but the portions were small, at least for me. It is a shame, I love Thai food and I stay in MK on a weekly basis.

Didn’t book and they were able to accommodate 5 of us on a Saturday and said need table back by 7pm which was fine, had 2 children with us and the food was not rushed and they continually checked to see we were ok and needed anything else also catered for one member of the group that was vegan. Also during our time there the place was getting busier and still had great service.

We are not from the area at all and only booked based on a review I saw. What a gem of a restaurant. Fab food and service! Shame we don't live closer

I’ll caveat that I’m a vegetarian who visited Thai modern, and the non-vegetarian options looked a lot better. I think my main disappointment was the lack of choice in the vegtarian part of the menu. The entire starter menu for vegetarians consists of deep fried dishes, as do a number the mains. The Tao Hu Sauce Makham doesn’t state it was fried which led to disappointment of ordering yet another very oily dish. That said the massaman curry was fantastic, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely. Overall, great atmosphere, great service, but would only recommend the curries for a vegetarian, which makes for a very limited menu.

Best Thai food in MK, hands down! I’ve been to Thai Modern many times over the past few years and the food has been consistently good. Tried the Bangkok set menu and they also graciously let us swap a dish within the set menu as per our liking. Food was served quickly, tasted fresh and every dish was fantastic. The Pad Thai in particular was divine and probably the best I have had in a long time. Ambience was good as always and service was also great this time!

We visited Milton Keynes yesterday and booked a table for dinner at Thai Modern. Although it was quite difficult for us to find as we have never visited MK before, we were greeted in a very friendly manner. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic too. We highly recommend a visit.

The food was good and portion sizes were adequate, however the service is shocking, especially from the male waiter. He was so rude, which ruined a perfectly good night.

Fantastic food. The set menus are abundant and delicious. Plenty to choose from if your want to try sixteenth things. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The service is friendly and attentive, although at busy times they can be hard to come by. Overall extremely happy and would definitely recommend.

A very quiet Sunday evening meal to celebrate a birthday, staff were attentive and the food was fresh and very tasty. Decor is lovely but the location is very quiet (surrounded by offices/flats). Desserts don’t seem to be their thing (we were offered two choices when we asked) but we would recommend for a Thai meal in the area.

Great first visit - ten of us went here last evening and the service and food was great. Very popular with locals. We had a platter meal and everything was outstanding. We will return.
