This is an absolute gem of a pub. They have a wide and constantly changing range of beers. All beautifully kept and served by a friendly and extremely knowledgeable landlord and staff. Certain worth a detour to visit. There is a wide range of whiskeys behind the bar as well. And they host music events in a function room.

The best pub in Wirksworth, friendly staff, good beer and a comfortable berth amidst all the coronavirus craziness.

After staying in Wirsworth for the weekend we ventured out for some drinks and went into the Royal Oak for a few drinks. Everyone inside the pub was really welcoming and the drinks were incredibly well priced. An amazing selection of whiskey too. A real traditional pub and real cosy setting.

Wonderful unspoilt pub, situated on North End in Wirksworth. A great selection of real ale, and at the end of the bar a guest craft keg. Look out for the range of Whiskeys available. Beer garden found through the archway to the side of the pub.

A cosy, friendly characterful pub offering a good range of beers and lager. Evokes all the atmosphere of the Dale's and also has outside space (why not have a game of boules?) if the weather permits.

Visited here, for the first time, on a Friday night. This is a superb, old-fashioned, proper pub situated on a side street very close to the centre of town. Very friendly with the landlord making an effort to speak to us. There was a good fire in the main bar. I had a excellent pint of Super Fortress, a ruby beer. There's also a really quaint-looking side room that has a pool table. All in all, a great find in a lovely, unspoilt Derbyshire town.

The Royal Oak is truly unique. The landlord is a master of his craft and provides the best kept hand pulled ales in town. The clientele is a great hodge podge from all walks of life. No television or sound ststem means that the main entertainment is the conversations and interactionswith the other punters - some of the most interesting people you'll meet !

If you want to go to great little pub in wirksworth this could be for you. It doesn't open until 8pm each night. They do not do hot food. They have an excellent range of fine ales. It's like walking back in time there's no duke box or gambling machines. It's a very friendly and warm place.

One of our favourite pubs in Wirksworth. This is a proper local pub, welcoming to friends and strangers, residents and visitors. It is often busy, bucking the trend of declining pubs. The beers are great, change regularly, even on the same night. Some are brewed by the landlord. There is a good range of malt whiskies, they change regularly too. If you want to get to know the spirit of Wirksworth, the Royal Oak is a good place to begin.

Decided to give this place a try as we were spending the evening in quirky Wirksworth. Pub isn't far from better known Red Lion on the high street. We managed to get a seat but after having a couple of drinks we decided to leave because it was getting busy and people wanted to sit right on top of us which may be alright for some but not for us!

Interesting local, in a time warp. There can't be many pubs that don't appear to have changed since the 1970's but this has to be one. Traditional cluttered interior. Decent range of real ales, and other beers, plenty of snacks, and a good welcoming 'locals' atmosphere. Bar staff helpful and welcoming. There's a beer garden (more of a yard really) out at the back where there are occasionally musicians strumming their stuff. Restricted opening times means you might have to plan your visit back to rustic utopia of 1976.

Super cute small cafe run by husband and wife. Food and coffee was delicious and they were very accommodating to dietary needs such as gluten free options!

This was our second visit to Butter Fingers and both times have been brilliant! We were lucky to get a table as it is very popular. On our last visit they had sold out of their raspberry and white chocolate cake so I was delighted to see they had some on this visit. I certainly wasn’t disappointed! The cake was deliciously fresh and tasty and I had a Nutella milkshake too which was equally tasty. My partner had a pumpkin spice latte and a kinder blondie which he was very happy with too. We will be back! 😊
