We arrived at 17:30 just before the carvery closed, and although we waiting for the Tories to be ready I found the carvery was nice, not great but also not bad. The meat portion was massive, maybe because we got there towards the end but we were chuffed. We were left alone to eat and paid at the bar. Overall nothing to grumble at but also nothing stood out particularly.

We arrived with two friends for an evening meal, but not having previously book a table found that all tables were taken for a function. However four easy chairs were quickly moved away from the bar area and replace with a dinning table and four chairs. The manager and staff were most helpful and made our visit very pleasant. We had sirloin steaks from the Monday Madness menu at £9 for a 12oz steak with all the trimmings. The steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. Excellent !!The two waitress we very attentive so the poor service of the past (as experienced by previous reviews) has been very much improved on. Well done all at The Royal we will come again.

Went up to the carvery counter and proceeded to get my food to be told the mashed potatoes were not ready and had to go back for them after eating half my meal! Not very professional in my mind. Average meal average food average service.

Upon arrival was very disappointing, walked in a the guy stood at the register didn't say hello just stared at us, we asked if he had a table free and he found us one but acted as if it was a chore to find one. The food was cooked great but throughout the meal most of the staff were really nice but the same Male would keep looking around and staring at the tables with a very judgemental look, near the end it was made apparent the Male in question is the manager

We went to the Royal Oak for a Sunday dinner. We rang and asked to book a table for 3:30 to be made aware that they use a slot system for tables, and the slot is 2-4 but we could come in at 3. We arrived at 3 to be greeted by a friendly waitress. She asked her manger where we were sat, she pointed at a table. As we approached the table with the waitress the manager then rudely and abruptly told us "you have to be gone by 4. OK?". This line immediately annoyed us both. There was no politeness with how it was said. We were aware of there being a slot system but how she told us was completely wrong. The food was nice, but drinks took a while and the waitress when she went to check what beers there were also took a drinks order from another customer which felt quite rude. When eating, the same manager kept hanging around waiting for us to finish which made us feel uncomfortable even though there were plenty of other people in the restaurant. She also kept banging cutlery around which was extremely irritating. When the other table left she cleared it away and while moving plates and wiping, she then asked if our food was OK. What was annoying is how her asking was just a side task to her cleaning the table. She had a rude and rushed approach to everything, even communicating with staff. Overall food was good, but her service needs improvement.

Our second visit. They have a small dog-friendly section, we had our dog with us. We were celebrating a family birthday. The reasonably priced roast dinner buffet is excellent, favourites at our table were the gammon and venison. There is a host of delicious vegetable side dishes. The price included a dessert which the menu tells us was taken at the table. There is an option to purchase a kids roast dinner which we recommend for children, we had two teens. However, we waited a considerable amount of time, well over a half hour for this. When we found someone to enquire the young lady (we had enquired twice) assured us that it would be sorted. All the desserts were good, my only comment was that the Eton Mess was considerably lacking in meringues a very tiny amount, I asked if there was additional meringue that could be added but the young lady insisted that I already had some. All things considered well worth it, we drive neatly 40 min to enjoy it - local parks and dog walks make it a lovely afternoon out.

We have previously had excellent service whenever we visited. The staff are truly exceptional. We shall not return however, today whilst eating the normally delicious food, my 9 year old girl found a dead maggot in it. I am sure it was an oversight and not indicative of there usual high standards of hygiene. Unfortunately, despite being regular visitors we will not return.
