Great ‘Breakfast with Santa’ experience this morning. We were served by Jack & Kaman, along with the big man himself. A relaxed atmosphere, along with yummy food and great memories. Thanks all and Merry Christmas.

We celebrated my son’s 5th birthday at The Royal, we decided on the day and they were very accommodating with us. Gabriella was brilliantly attentive, colours and drawings for my two toddlers and she even joined in to sing happy birthday with us! Real demonstration of the extra mile and why I would recommend coming for a meal here. Food was as lovely as ever, I can confidently say that each time I’ve eaten at the royal I’ve enjoyed my experience, and we are well into double figures now! Great pub.

We have had our work Christmas meal here 2 years in a row and both times have received excellent service. Catering for around 20 people isn't easy yet everyone received their meals in a timely manner and all food was nicely cooked and hot. We had Charlie and Jess looking after us this year and their service was amazing. As I said all the food was served quickly and plates tidied away quickly, as well as regularly checking if anyone needed any extra drinks. 10/10 would recommend.

My old haunt early 70s. The meal and surroundings were good. Only negative comment was, on recommendation of waiter, had low alcohol Old Speckled Hen, absolutely awful taste. First time in my life I left a pint.

First time trying this beautiful site today and after having it recommended I’m so glad that we did! Excellent and friendly service from our waitress Isabelle V and the food was just as great! We will definitely be back again to try another one of the Sunday roasts as they all look amazing and we are thinking of having a stay in the rooms too

The best resturant venue in Portishead with the most friendly of staff. My Sunday roast was delicious and too much for me to finish as had to leave room for dessert lol

The staff were beyond friendly and accommodating. The Camembert wedges were incredible. Literally out of this world best tasting thing ever!!! Portions were fantastic sizes. Atmosphere was lovely. Food was served quickly and hot. We had a slight issue with an added extra to the bill but this was dealt with immediately and with no issues. Thank you to all involved, we had a such a lovely time.

Exceptional service! We arrived at peak lunchtime on a Saturday leading into Christmas, they were very busy but made us feel welcome and relaxed and arranged a table for us within 15 minutes. Karam was warm, friendly and couldn’t do enough to help my children, from food choices to colouring sheets and crayons. We had a light lunch which was delicious and great value. Thoroughly enjoyable, spontaneous lunch visit - we will certainly be back!

Can't comment on rooms. Just met a mate for coffee and was just generally impressed.

Always loved this pub having been going there since the early 90's and returned there after a good 5 years to a warm and inviting atmosphere with some nice food on top, service was fantastic and would recommend. Would book in advance though just to secure a table.

Always quality food and service at The Royal Inn. Great location at that top of Portishead, with deals for Blue Light members in the app also. Worth booking and lovely to sit outside in the summer in the large beer garden! A must visit

A big thank you to Kaman and his team for a fantastic visit this evening. Myself and family enjoyed an absolutely delicious 3 course festive meal this evening. The prawns starter was so good and the beef cheeks was perfect. Well done Royal team, great as always!

We had a brilliant time at breakfast with Santa and would highly recommend. The kids loved seeing Santa who really engaged with them. The cooked breakfast was good and the service from Kaman and Kaitlin was great 😃

We stayed for a 3 night break over the weekend. The hotel, restaurant and rooms are beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. Very comfy bed and fantastic walk in shower and bathroom facilities. We ate in and the food was delicious and staff are all very friendly and welcoming.No noise from the restaurant when you’re in your rooms and the pub closes at 11. A really wonderful stay and we would definitely return again .

Very nice place to stay, staff very friendly, only complaint I have is that I and my company tried for THREE DAYS to ring the hotel without success they have an annoying Autobot (Claire) which is not what I wish to talk to.

All the stuff were very welcoming and me and my partners had a 2 course meal which was prepared in a timely manner and tasted delicious. 100% will be coming again.

We had an amazing birthday celebration for 30 guests this weekend at the Royal in their 3 open plan rooms.The food was lovely, the atmosphere and our waitress Jess made sure we had everything we needed and was so attentive throughout the meal and even brought out the birthday cake for my dad and grandma. Had a lovely lunchtime meal with my cousins and family here today. We were served by Jess who was amazingly kind efficient, and the food was delicious. The ambience is excellent too, a really nice room with a view to eat in.

We had a great night at The Royal, the food was superb, I had the lamb shank shepherds pie (oh wow) and loads of it! Jess our waitress could not do enough and was so attentive, thank you made such a great night of it!

Gabriella found a table where there were no tables and they were super busy - we got served so much quicker than she had even said and had a table with a fab view. We really appreciated the effort to accommodate us and the food was great! Natasha was really helpful with recommending food to us and was super polite. We would definitely come back if we’re in town again.

My wife and i stayed for 2x nights, Monday 11/11/2024-13/11/2024, from the moment we got there we knew it was going to be a nice place, the stunning views, the lovely grounds, once inside it carried on with a homely warm feeling, friendly and professional staff welcoming us and throughout our stay, Kaman the general manager took time out of his busy schedule to chat and advise on things in the area and what to have for food, the room was clean tidy and was set up nicely with plenty of room, the bed was comfy too, each of the 2x nights food was very nice and value for the portion, hot and plentiful, i would strongly recommend this hidden gem of a find, we will be staying again. LOVELY pub and restaurant. It's been done out beautifully and has a great sized carpark. Unfortunately the Sunday roast was a real let down. Boring under cooked vegetables and we won't come here again for that sadly. Great for drinks outside in the summer too.

We attended this evening to enjoy a family dinner and selected from the festive menu, the two course menu had great choices, the food was lovely, service and value could not be faulted, hosts were very friendly and efficient, food quality, content and portion size excellent vfm. Visiting from Aus, I confidently say this was the best Xmas dinner I have eaten on this trip (3rd one) strongly recommend the roast.. thank you to the host team who made it a memorable evening for us. Well done The Royal Inn.

Lovely pub with a warm atmosphere

The menu offered many choices for all. The food was delicious and the service very good. Just what you need at the end of a busy week! We only dined at the hotel.

We booked a meal at The Royal as we had friends over. They loved the location and the views. We were served by Guy. He was extremely prompt taking our order but we never felt rushed. He was excellent in ensuring that my gluten free request was adhered to. Our food was absolutely delicious especially the bakewell tart! Our friends loved it so much that they are already talking about going back. Thank you so much to Guy, your customer service is brilliant.

Great place to stay - very comfortable rooms, great food and drink, nice atmosphere and excellent staff. In fact I'd say the staff are by far the most attentive, efficient and friendly we've come across for sometime. They genuinely seem to interested in their customers and are happy to engage in conversation rather than just rushing around/ hiding away as happens in some places! No hesitation in recommending the Royal Inn to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay.

First time I have visited since the refurbishment. Very smart place and the meal was excellent. The service was excellent and a very tasty meal.

We made an impromptu visit with our dog and our friends for an early evening meal. Immediately made welcome by staff and shown to the 'dog friendly' dining room, which is a small and comfortable side room with interesting views over the estuary, with bowls of water provided for dogs. Our server was Chris who was so friendly and helpful and really looked after us with excellent service throughout our meal. In fact, all the staff we encountered were really lovely. The meals chosen were: gluten-free mixed grill followed by gluten-free bakewell tart & custard; crispy chicken burger; fish & chips, and marmalade glazed pork belly followed by the trio of desserts. The main meals were served on warmed plates (always appreciated) and each meal was beautifully cooked and nicely presented. The portion sizes were generous. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed the very tasty food so much that there were no leftovers on the plates (the dog did manage to scrounge a couple of chips and a morsel of steak and rated his treat 5 stars too). This is only the second time we've been able to visit the Royal since it re-opened and we are really impressed with the standard of food and the excellent service given by the staff. We will definitely be visiting again very soon.

A beautiful venue. Visited for Sunday lunch for a birthday treat. Sadly disappointing. The place was woefully understaffed and those who were serving were having to deal with many people chasing up drinks and meals. I felt sorry for the staff because there simply weren’t enough of them to deal with the number of covers.

Visited the Royal Inn for a early evening meal with a friend my daughter had been 2 times before and was very impressed with what she seen and the service from staff and the food she had also ... so was not disappointed or surprised when I went there ... We have just had lunch at the Royal Inn. Everything was extremely good. We like the extended dining room decor and menu. The food was really good, the service was excellent (thank you Natasha). Much recommended.

Another wonderful experience at The Royal. The rooms are comfortable, cosy and warm. The food is just stunning and the way in which the staff care for their customers is first class. To be greeted and made to feel welcome throughout the meal all helps toward an extremely pleasant occasion.

Popped in for food with my parents on a Sunday evening. It was very busy even though we booked in advance. However, a very large party soon left and it was starting to quieten down then. The food was really good, we all enjoyed our meals and I would definitely go there again. I didn't stay there so I've no idea about the rooms, but it's very nicely furbished inside.

A fantastic location in a building that has been beautifully renovated. The team are really helpful and our server, Gabriella couldn't have done more to make our visit enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and return soon.

We had Sunday lunch here. We were served by Guy. He was friendly, extremely efficient, really on the ball. We had an issue and he sorted it out immediately. The food was very good too! Definitely coming here again!

The food was lovely and tasty. The adult meals were generally great. The kids' meals were more frozen pizza/chips, but the price is low, and they get a "main" and 2 side options. So you can't complain about the price and the kids generally ate it. Be aware, as we weren't, that they do not take cash at all. And you are not told over the phone while booking. Which they really should. A few tables around us were shocked or agreed that they'd been caught out by this themselves previously. So something they should make you aware of before you book or before you order at least. The water said they have no tills but hope to have some soon. Seems weird to open without them. As we can't be the only people who had cash to pay with. Especially when you go for a meal and it's a mixed group and you all split the bill. Quite a few staff members who were nice. New, so didn't know answers to everything, but they were all lovely, and I'm sure they will be brilliant once they have worked there a bit longer.

First visit for a long time in which time it has changed hands. Visited recently for lunch and a drink. My rump steak and chips was well presented but the steak was very tough and practically inedible. I raised the issue with the manageress and a replacement meal arrived shortly. Unfortunately the new steak was of the same batch but not as bad as the first one, it happens I guess. The manageress was very good at dealing with the situation and apologies we're accepted. I'd be happy to return at a later date.

A great couple of days were had there. The room we had was huge with a super king-size (?) bed, fabulous service and food, will definitely return.

Had a lovely meal for my birthday.the food was super. We enjoyed a bottle of wine on the terrace. The staff were great, especially Charlie who was attentive, cheerful and professional. Great place; would highly recommend.

Attended for a lovely meal this evening and served by the awesome Charlie. I’ve had a number of meals at The Royal and Charlie was by far one of the best if not the best…and that’s saying something as I’ve always enjoyed my visits. Would thoroughly recommend

The Royal Inn has had a make over and looks very good indeed. Great views plenty of places to sit outside and indoors. Had the two course menu 16.50 so good value.

The place is nice, outdoor seating very nice in the sun but you must book in advance. Saying this they didnt allow us to reserve outdoor seating when booking. We were asked to tell staff when we wanted mains and puddings bringing out, which was odd for a pub meal. Staff were minimal for the busy summertime rush.

Popped in for a few drinks on 11 August then went back today (18 Aug) for brunch. Really lovely food and fast and friendly service. Hubby and I went for a meal on 29 Dec 23. Great food and excellent service!

After hearing excellent things, I visited Royal Inn without knowing what to expect, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel overlooks the sea, interior is tasteful and comfortable, service was excellent from what can only be described as a lovely team and the fish and chips were delicious.

We had an exceptional stay at the Royal Inn, enjoying dinner, breakfast, and lunch. The location is stunning with breathtaking views and our recently refurbished room was lovely. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The food was delicious with generous portions. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Highly recommend !

We had lunch yesterday. My partner had the steak sandwich, which he throughly enjoyed, he said the meat was cooked perfect and no fat. I however, had the vegetable tart, it was tasty, the salad was a bit oily and could have done with a few cherry tomatoes and I was disappointed in my portion of new roasted potatoes could of done with a couple more, but apart from that we had a relaxing time.

Shame it’s a cash only bar! Didn’t discover this until two drinks were served at the bar to us. Thanks to a very lovely man who was ordering his own drinks at the same time offering to pay for ours then we gave him our cash, otherwise we would have had to leave, such a shame they don’t take cash. The young girl serving us looked shocked we wanted to pay cash, she was polite but offered no alternative and seamed accepting of us walking away without our drinks🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s cash still legal tender ?🤔

Absolutely loved this old Inn located as it is on the Severn just opposite Wales which you can see across the river. I do wonder why many establishments in the UK insist on having winter duvets in the summer but then I guess the reality is that they don’t really have a lot of summer to deal with, so I’m probably griping about a real non-issue! Enjoyed the heck out of this place, Jess who I assume to be the manager checked us in and sorted us out with a great table. We had a lovely dinner. Everyone was super nice and really really enjoyed the small beach just down by the stairs which was a nice relaxing place to go and 420 chill for a bit!

Had a meal with my wife last night 8/8/24 and it was a truly lovely experience. The restaurant was very busy yet the staff were friendly and attentive and gave us their time with a smile and patience. Charlotte in particular was charming and dealt with all the stress that came her way. I understand that there was a young man on his first night and he was friendly, helpful and pleasant also. This hotel chain has made a big difference to its previous standing, so credit must be given to the Managers, chefs and staff for turning it around. Well done to all and thank you.

Came here last week terrible food and was supposed to get our money paid back into our accounts but still a week later nothing ! This place looks the part but the food is terrible

Food was exceptionally low quality not cooked well did not reflect the beautiful interior and exterior … this place is all style and no substance when it comes to the food sadly we complained as it was so terrible and one of us even found a hair which is so off putting. We were told to we would get refunded and nothing has gone into the bank. Very very disappointed so we will not be going back; shame because this is Local to me and It’s a beautiful location, perhaps just stick to drinks if you’re going to go here as the food is worse than a cheap motel.

Stayed with a friend for one night. Amazing stay couldnt fault it.. Staff all very friendly & polite. Food was great Shame about the rain Would of loved to sit in the garden as that looked amazing too. Will definitely be back amd hopefully next time the sun Will shine so we can enjoy the garden.

Fantastic service, I think the staff member was called Ruby, extremely friendly and poured an excellent pint of Guinness which is a rare skill in this part of the country

We went on a busy Saturday evening, staff seemed harassed and had to be prompted to take our orders as with other diners. I asked for the bill on several occasions and in the end I got up and asked a waitress who seemed quite cross and snapped ‘she’s doing it’!! I didn’t ask again, my husband went up and paid. Food was nice though.

Dropped in as in the area and I must say we very happy we did. The food was excellent, the staff were very pleasant and had excellent customer service, the outside dining area and the view were very nice. Thank you we will be back.
