Great location and drinks, but the two staff members behind the bar seemed almost shocked that we would want to enjoy a few drinks and play the pool table. Each time we approached the bar, it was like an effort to serve drinks. A real shame, as the atmosphere among customers was great and everyone was happy to chat. A smile and some appreciation from the staff would be appreciated.

Had lunch here with my wife on her 70th birthday. Cosy, traditional hotel restaurant/bar on seafront. We got a nice, warm corner next to the fire (it was a cold day!) Food was excellent, good selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes including chef's specials, and portions were generous - so much so that a starter and main course were quite sufficient! For drivers, a very "realistic" alcohol-free IPA from a local craft brewery is available. The owner and staff were very friendly and hospitable. Prices were reasonable, fairly typical for a hotel restaurant. Altogether a very pleasant dining experience!

Went for Sunday lunch just the 4 of us 2 adults and 2 kids one been 11 and the other 6! One of the kids is disabled and so we needed to speak ahead of time about getting something suitable for him like chicken goujons and chips and the big boy had the same just make it easy So me and the wife shared a starter and both had the Sunday roast which was ok and me and the older boy had icecram + we just had one soft drink each and the wife had a wine So when the bill came we was shocked to say the least over a £100 got us to eat I could not believe it thy charged us £16 for the kids meal each and when I say it was just a kids meal not even a large portion So we asked why so much for the kids and thy sed it was from the main menu So well lest us tell you we will not be back if that’s there attitude towards kids and kids were needs

Four of us had a nice meal. In a lovely position, right on the front overlooking the sea. One point that concerned us, was their pricing of a pint of "Lime and Soda". It was £5.50! We were on a trip cycling from Lands End to Jon-o-groats and had stopped at many pubs/restaurants for this drink. The most we had ever been charged was £2.50, with some being as low at 40p. The owner was very defensive when I mentioned the high pricing. Just be warned their mixer pricing is very high.

We came her for lunch on a lovely fall day, Halloween, after a drive up the Black Isle. The weather was cool, but there was an option to eat in or out—we chose inside and were seated right next to the fireplace. They are taking covid very seriously, and observed all protocols, masks, recording our visit, the whole bit. I went with the chicken goujons, which were excellent, with a delightful, light sauce acconpanying. My partner had the stuffed mushrooms, with couscous and goat cheez, which also was fantastic. The service throughout was great, everyone friendly and welcoming as they prepared Halloween packets for the trick or treaters later that evening. Bottom Line: this was a great visit to my partner’s ancestral land, and it was a good one. Highly recommend.

We were told that it was going to busy as it was Father's day and were happy to expect a slow service. However it was not very busy when we arrived and our orders were taken promptly and the OK food arrived in a timely fashion, but the way that our cutlery was thrown onto the table and the way we were handed our food it was evident that the waitress had taken an instant dislike to us which made us feel very unwelcome and very uncomfortable. We are all locals, not tourists, and if this is the standard of hospitality at the Royal I feel sorry for the visitors that come to Cromarty to eat or stay here. The crowning glory was when our coffee arrived on a tray piled with cups, spoons, saucers and the percolator and slammed down on the table, without a word, for us to distribute amongst ourselves, this had us in stitches. Suffice to say we did not leave a tip and will certainly not be going back again.

Went on a Friday night, had looked at the menu online, so had kind of made up our mind what we wanted, got to the Royal, only to find a different menu, neither of what we wanted was on there. Never mind, both Cromarty and Black Isle beer on tap, good to back the local breweries. Food turned up quite promptly, we both had ribeye steaks, and both were very good. At that point it went wrong, waitress who had seen we had finished main course, just disappeared ?. We were going to have the cranachan for dessert, but after waiting half an hour and not seeing any staff, to clear away and take dessert order, we gave up. Went and dragged someone from the public bar, paid our bill and left. Shame really.

The menue is varied and caters for all tastes, the food was fresh well cooked and simply delicious. Everything is local and well presented. Great value for money.

Had lunch here recently and felt very welcome straight away the woman who served us was very nice and even under pressure she was very professional had the fish and chips not normally what I'd have but I fancied a change don't like batter either so I asked for it to be done in breadcrumbs now I know that's a pain in the neck but it was done for me and hats off to the chef and the waitress . Had a pint off tenents lager and it was up there in the top 5 best pints off tenents I've had so they obviously look after the bar side as well . Thank you

Tasty food with a great view of Lochness. The staff are lovely and they have a good selection of whisky. Good value 3 course meal deal.

Très agréable situation entre 2 ballades, service très prévenant. Des plats typiques, abordables. Le top après une journée de tourisme.

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
