Friendly local with great real ales, which are half the price you would pay in the nearby national park - and that's not an exaggeration. Great for watching footy too. Glad it's my local!

Great stay rooms were great reception staff very helpful, the breakfast was just ok, a huge choice but not the best cooked, mind I only tried the full English, I would stay again but eat outside for breakfast.

Lovely local pub cheap drinks with friendly staff

We were in Penrith for a few days down from Scotland and found this pub to be our local for a pint. Prices were reasonable and plenty of staff on hand who are friendly and helpful. Lots of Televisions for sports. Plenty regulars in always a good sign. Thanks guys

Very well kept ales at a very reasonable price. A rarity these days. Also there is a real mix of people making for a welcoming atmosphere.

Well worth a visit, the recent refurbishment is great and the real ale is particularly nice, also cheap too, definitely my favourite pub in Penrith.

Definitely one for the sports fans with big TV screens all round the bar. You get a warm and welcome and a very nice pint, the landlady Vikki is brilliant too 😊

Popped in here for a couple on the way to a restaurant. The service was very friendly and there was a good selection of beers available.

Only called in for one drink and watch some football when heading into the centre of Penrith so it's difficult to rate this bar. The beer (Guinness and a lager) was fine and the table service was prompt. The place itself was o.k with a handful of people watching the football being shown on the bars T.V's (they have a few T.V's so watching the sport being shown should be easy, even when the place is full). Nothing negative to say about The Royal... a "sports bar" serving decent beer with a chance to watch your chosen sport.

My husband and I were stopping at the Glendale house which is just up the road from this pub we popped in for a drink at the end of the night on Friday evening and again on the way out on Saturday evening because the staff behind the bar in particular young lady with long brown hair was very welcoming and very good at her job which is why we went back on the Saturday we hope to visit again and will pop in as I’d love to see you have a fab Christmas Jill and Phil xx

I used to come to this pub quite regularly 20 years ago. First visit since then and it looks exactly the same! Has an air of run down to it. That being said, the Land lady was friendly enough and we enjoyed a couple of drink while playing pool. Good place to kill a couple of hours.

Great place. Down to earth. Just what a traditional pub should be like.

The Royal is a town centre pub serving food as well as drinks. The premises are clean and well presented and the ambience is good. There was a wide selection of drinks including real ales. Both rugby league and football was showing on various TV screens at the time of my visit. I didn't eat so can't comment on the food that was being served. I would definitely recommend a visit to the Royal

This is a great local pub. Nice real ales, generous portions of unpretentious food and a friendly local atmosphere. A classic.

Came on recommendations of the owner of the flat we were staying in. Brilliant old style pub. Good real ale, chat and dominoes league games going on. Got to see a screen from every seat to watch football on BT without having to strain and without the tvs getting in the way of the decor. Sky Sports also available.
