They have more standard fare as well, for obvious reasons, but their signature and Gurkha dishes are distinctive and well worth the trip over the numerous very good Indian restaurants in the area. Staff attentive and the proprietor and vibe are genuinely charming. Five star every time

Excellent food, service was a little slow but the resturant was busy. Only niggle is they don't accept american express despite this being advertised on their website, resturant window and the bill is given in an American express wallet.

Came here for a double date on Wednesday 7th Feb. We had a lovely time. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food was tasty, we enjoyed it all. Huge variety on the menu! There's something for everyone. I loved the chicken momos!

Excellent food and service with a lovely friendly atmosphere

Nice ambience and excellent service. I did recommend them to make egg free Naan's for vegetarians as they complement traditional veg curries. You could go easy on amount of sugar you put in your curries (paneer) and Manchurian. That said, I would highly recommend them and Diya Royal in Kempston.

Food amazing. Service amazing. They could do with extractor fans. Got home smelling of spices.

5 star Indian takeaway! The chicken tikka was probably the best I have ever had very juicy and spice was on point. Price is fair for the great taste and service is fantastic not too pushy. Large and small tables so ideal for couples or big groups.

Very disappointing after having read good reviews. None of the meat had been marinated is was very bland, then just had a sauce poured over it. Very few pieces of meat in the dish all sauce. To be served a curry of this poor quality in Bedford when there are so many other Indian restaurants was shocking and it wasn’t cheap. I wouldn’t recommend and won’t be returning.

I have dined in and had takeaways on a number of occasions. The quality and standard of service is always excellent regardless of whether dining in or just grabbing a bag. The owner of The Royal Ghurka is a retired member of The Gurkha Regiment so being from a military family ….. HUGE respect for him and a wonderful man too 😊👍 Highly recommended ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had a long day at work and ordered a takeaway from my favourite curry house when I got home. The owner turned up at my door with the delivery. He also brought a large Gurkha beer, which I didn’t order and gave it to me free of charge. He explained he had no drivers and was doing the delivery himself. What an absolute gentleman. Made my night. Thank you! This is a must try restaurant if you’re in Bedford. It’s definitely the best curry in Bedford by a long shot too!

Love it here. First choice always. Always feel welcomed by the owner and staff are very attentive. Food incredibly tasty and really does taste fresh (a big plus) and the atmosphere is nice. We've been both midweek and at the weekend and would highly recommend Royal Ghurka.

Food was OK. I thought that some of the ancillary bits, such as nans were expensive. However, great service. The waiters very friendly. The place was very busy for mid week, so had a good atmosphere.

We have been to this restaurant with friends before but last Saturday it was just two of us. They took us to a table for two which was right next to a table of 8 with small children. We asked for a more quiet table but were told the only tables available were for four so we could not have one. I pointed out there were three tables set for four with just couples sat at them. We were told they may be waiting for friends!! We asked again but we're told sorry no,so we said we would go to another restaurant to which the guy said it's Saturday...you won't find any. Please,come on,this is Tavistok street which is packed with decent restaurants. Then, two separate couples who came in after us were given tables set for four!! Is this because we complained?? Then they gave us a table that was set for four. This was a bad start to our evening however I ordered a whisky with a splash of lemonade and lots of ice but in a tumbler. It arrived in a tall glass. We ordered our food and our first course took ,35 minutes during which time one of the waitresses was continually running,not walking from our floor up to the higher level!! Everything we had was delicious,but sadly the evening was already spoiled for us so...a dissapointing evening,we will try again but next time with friends!! Just to add that we explained all of this to the manager who was introducing himself to the customers and he apologized.

We had been to Royal Gurkha with friends on the occasion of Valentine's Day. The atmosphere on the ground floor was superb and cosy. It has its own bar. We enjoyed the service and friendliness of the staff. Being a Nepali, we were expecting Nepali food at Nepali portion, and were a little disappointed. Food was good and had Nepali spices and taste.

To start with the staff are fantastic, so convivial and they really are a friendly bunch, thank you. The food is delicious and every time I visit I just love the food so much. Its great quality at good prices, you leave very satisfied and full! Lovely restaurant can't recommend this enough. I usually stick with the Nepalese foods but the Indian menu is spot on as well. A very pleasant dining experience with a dash of style. Extensive menu with regional specialities alongside Indian regulars. Everything we tried was very tasty. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Will come back and try more of this menu. Update 2023: still excellent. Really tasty food and great service.

Every time we go to the Royal Gurkha, we enjoy a wonderful evening of excellent food, service and laughter with the host Kumar. We never think of going anywhere else and we have wonderful memories (or lack thereof) of Kumar's sambuca!

OMG this food is 11/10!! I had the vegetable momos for starter. They tasted the same as if I was eating them in Nepal. So bloody delicious. I then had the vegetable thali which was such an amazing collection of different curries with rice, daal and naan. So much food I had enough to take home for another meal! This food is incredible and the staff are such lovely, warm, friendly people. Everyone must go here. ❤️

Nice welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant, I tried the slow cooked lamb shank in a rich sauce ( house speciality our most popular dish) sauce was hot shank lukewarm, shank obviously precooked and warmed in the sauce, £17 not well spent. My wife and son ordered a Cori each and a shared rice, 1 Cori and rice appeared, my daughter ordered Nepalese noodle dish good but pricey at £16. Garlic naan was good so was the 2 pints of Cobra! nobody asked if we enjoyed our meal, perhaps we were unlucky but we were expecting better

The atmosphere is lovely. A young gentleman took our orders and was very smiley and friendly. I opted for the 'punjabi keema' amazing flavours, mild, yet spicy and flavoursome it was spot on. HOWEVER, the keema isn't the best quality of meat and it has a lot of gristle in it , otherwise would have scored a 4

Pro’s: really nice variety of dishes, sauces/spices are very pleasant. Cons: more and more now, getting really rowdy groups in, if at adjacent table, can’t hear what friends are saying due to loudness and closeness of other tables. Also, actual meat content within dishes has definitely decreased, I counted 4 medium and 4 small cubes of meat in my main course, all the rest was thick sauce. Afraid we will choose to eat at others (The Grand, nearby still good) and leave this ‘experience’ to the tanked-up rowdies.

My friend and I dined at the Royal Gurkha Nepalese restaurant last night for the first time. Having dined at the Diya Royal Nepalese restaurant in Kempston before, I was intrigued to see how the Royal Gurkha compared to Diya Royal. In my opinion the standard of service and quality of food at the Royal Gurkha is good, however it just think in my humble opinion that Diya Royal has a slight edge based on ambiance, portion sizes and depth of flavour. This is not to say the Royal Gurkha isn't worth a visit, as It definitely is. The menu consists of a number of wide and varied dishes from traditional Nepalese cuisine. You must try the chilli chicken starter, which is a big triumph!! Or try the mutton chilli momo which is equally as tasty. The restaurant is nicely decorated and spaced out without you feeling cramped or squashed in. The staff are friendly and attentive and the prices are reasonable considering the current financial climate. If your looking to try traditional Nepalese cuisine then either the Royal Gurkha or the Diya Royal kempston are certainly well worth a visit.

Went out on a Tuesday night, and the place was quiet but not in a bad way. The service was excellent, the young lady who served us was well mannered and made us feel welcome. She knew her menu, and suggested things to accompany our meal (obviously we accepted). The food itself was absolutely stunning. If I could rate it more I would! Presentation isn't a huge thing on our mind when it comes to food however the way it was served was beautiful. Price wasn't bad either and as a treat was well worth it. Would highly recommend 👌🏼

Myself and my partner came here tonight for our anniversary and we were both amazed by the quality of the food. Not only was the food amazing but the staff were really friendly and seemed to truly care that you get the best experience at the restaurant. The portion sizes are perfect, and the prices are cheap for what you are getting. The moment we got our starters we already knew we would be returning in the future.

I look my family to dinner there tonight. As soon as we walked into the restaurant, the staff and owner made us feel special and welcome. They shook our hands and showed us to our seats. The decor of the restaurant was warm and inviting with a living room ambience. We had a number of Indian staple dishes and each dish was simple and delicious. The entire evening was an amazing experience and we will definitely be back.

What can I say, we were recommended Royal Gurkha by a relative, so we ate in the restaurant last week and decided to have a take away today. Food exceptional on both occasions, well done Royal Gurkha, fantastic food on both occasions. Will we order/book with you again …….. most definitely 😊

We dined in the Royal Gurkha for the first time a few days back and it's a winner for both of us. Walking through the door the first impression is of a clean and tastefully decorated dining area with well laid tables with quality cutlery and napkins etc. For us though what's important is the service and food, both of which get top marks. The service was friendly and attentive without being over bearing, but it was the food that was the 'pièce de résistance', the starter (momo steam) was a perfect preamble for the mains which we both remarked tasted freshly cooked and vibrant in flavour, colour and presentation. We'll definitely be returning.

We visited yesterday evening, on the occasion of my wife’s birthday. We had heard good things and went on recommendation of our son, who had been before. We were not disappointed. Lovely welcome by Mr Kumar Shrestha (owner) all staff were very smart and attentive. Food arrived promptly and was delicious.😋 I would go as far as saying everything passed off with military precision - no surprise as Mr Shrestha is a former Gurkha ‼️ For a Thursday the restaurant was busy so always worry booking if you want to visit. As Swartzenegger would say ‘I’ll be back‼️’

Very tasty Indian and true Nepalese food, also very good customer service. The famous Indian momos are available here. Also main dishes like Mix Grill, Sherpa Lamb Chops, Dum Ki Naali, Ever Sizzling Chizken Noodles are really awesome. Starters are very delicious. The staff there are very polite and humble. Very satisfied. It's the best in town. Such a peaceful place to enjoy your special moments with your dear ones. Really loved it✌️

This is a real gem! I can honestly say it was the nicest curry I have ever had and I've had a lot. The staff we're very attentive without being too pushy. Lovely surroundings, you can tell the owner genuinely cares about customer service which is rare unfortunately. will definitely be back to sample more of the menu.

Food was alright but not worth the amount you're paying as it isn't authentic. Tastes good but if you know your different cuisines this is nowhere close to authentic Nepalese or Indian food. Promises authenticity but I can guarantee you there are more authentic Indian and Nepalese restaurants in Bedford! Staff came round multiple times asking if we wanted more drinks even if our glasses were still clearly full...not too sure what that was about. It was different staff everytime so it happened a lot as there wasn't any communication between them what tables had been approached. Most places I've been to have a single waiter assigned to a table and if the table needs anything additional it's the responsibility of the table guests to signal the waiter and request for it. It did get quite bothersome at some point being interrupted mid conversation and mid dining to be asked if we wanted more drinks. We also had someone at our table that eats slower than the rest of us so takes more time than the rest of the table but staff kept coming round to ask if she was done so they could take the plate away when she still had food on her plate and was still holding her cutlery signifying she was still eating. Happened several times to a point she could no longer enjoy her food and just gave the plate away to avoid being asked anymore. Due to frustration she may have handed over the plate a bit aggressively (to whomever the waiter was, she realised and apologised on the spot for this and I'd like to apologise once again on her behalf). The staff are quite young but lovely and have potential. I think just a bit more training from management would go a long way to make them shine more!

My main review is on Trip Advisor. Short and sweet on here. Absolutely delicious food with a very high standard of service. First time at the restaurant and it won't be our last.
