Always enjoyed it here been coming for years great service good food. Friendly staff couldn't ask for a better service.

My partner and I love our food and have tried pretty much all the indian restaurants and take aways in the area. I have to say from the outside you wouldn’t realise what lovely food the Royal Ghurka has to offer. The food is not greasy, lots of options for vegans. My partner who is not vegan had the Momo dumplings which he said were incredible. Definitely worth a try on a Wednesday as they do a special 12.95 offer or always lovely for take away. This menu is slightly different to your usual Indian takeaway which makes a nice change. If you do visit, the staff are lovely. A very sweet couple.

Awful experience and rude staff. Better buy a sandwich from Sainsbury than eating at this place. Don’t think it was even hygienic as per UK standard.

I normally do not provide negative feedback but yesterday behaviour of the lady at counters of Royal Gurkha was Intolerable and her arrogance level was touching peaks.

I went with my 3 other friend on 7 Feb 2020 at 12:30 pm. We ordered Chicken Makahni, Dal tadka and Gurhwali Aalo and some breads. We asked in the starting itself to not make anything sweet at all and also keep it medium or more spicy. Dal and Aaloo was good to taste but chicken was sweet and it looks like they have put sugar after making it. When we tasted the food, we asked the lady who took the order that it is sweet and she suddenly gone absurd and started talking very badly. We finished our lunch and then went to the counter to pay our bill. So we asked very humbly as why she was so rude when we gave the feedback of the food. She started again in a very bad tone and having same argument again. Finally she said they she will not serve the food if we come back again. I think this is really very bad behavior and if this is the attitude then someone from food and regulation authority should need to take some cognizance of it.

Restaurant is a Royal Gurkha , Yet they serve Halal food, even though 99% of the people at the table were non muslims. I don't understand why I have to pay for the food which is halal and certification cost goes to promote Islam and building of the Mosques. At the end I had to eat only sea food? Sad how choice for the non halal is not available at so called Nepali or Indian restaurants.PS food was good ,but cant keep on eating sea food.

We meet her every few months and will do so again. The quality of the food and service is very good, but not amazing, Prices are reasonable and ambience ok. Extensive menu and quite a popular restaurant( always a good indication).

we have eaten here a few times with relatives who live nearby, I think the restaurant has gone through various changes of management over the years and this latest one is well up to standard. Regrettably there are now not so many Nepalese dishes to choose from, so it is more like a standard Indian restaurant menu. Of the remaining Nepalese dishes the Gurkhali Aloo [Nepalese version of Bombay potato] and Paleko Paneer [sauteed curd cheese] were particularly good. Quick efficient service.

I have eaten here a few times and on a few occasions and had a great meal, at a good price value and good service.. But this time around the mint source was gloopy, maybe made frozen and defrosted for this service, the salad dry with my starter, the onion Bhaji stale not fresh and moist inside and super crispy on the outside , I ask - how can you get that wrong .For a restaurant with only a few customers present this is pretty bad, I can only say the chef had a night off ..Concerned for them ..

The Royal Gurkha is back open. We had a great meal and great service yesterday. I think the wine list has changed. We had Thai wine from Monsoon Valley Wine. Nice

We have now been twice to this restaurant. Excellent customer service. Lovely welcome on both visits. High quality dishes with a good house wine. Very enthusiastic with the chilli power Worth a mention if you are not a hot and spicy curry lover. We loved it Great value for money and it takes the meerkat deal

We visit this restaurant several times a year, and the first time under the new management.

It was great to see that the Royal Gurkha is back open again. Service was very good and we all thought (party of five) that the food was even better than under the previous management. We will definitely be returning soon.

Starters were good but our mains were really disappointing, Onion bhajis were undercooked, both chicken mains were bland with no flavour and the chicken was hard and dry.

Me and my family booked a table for my dads birthday but when we got there it wasn’t open but we had already booked it in advanced.

Food was delicious - popadom starters had a couple on interesting condiments I had never had before - had the tandoori chicken, which came to table smoking and succulent Washed down with a few Cobras... Will be comming again!

This place is a hidden gem - set within a local pub on the a217 with parking. Restaurant atmosphere is slightly different to your normal high street indian, but the food is fantastic! I have tried everything from their Korma, Butter Chicken and Tikka to their Dhansak, Madras and Vindaloo.

Very nice. A proper curry thats not made just to try to burn your tastebuds. A really nice mix of spices recommend the lamb..also the Tikka.slightly warmer than the average very nice . Pubs a bit dated toilets are dreadful. Made for the pub users they should have a separate cleaner washroom for Diners. But i eould still recommend it. Good deals on through the week.

This is a hidden gem in Lower Kingswood that the local residents cherish. The staff are so friendly and the quality of the food is exceptional. We are regular customers, and the first place family want to go for a meal is the Royal Gurkha, that in itself speaks volumes.

It has a great location and a bit of a hidden jem. Despite having a bar area that may not attract the right crows the food is just top quality. I've lived in the area all my life and seriously this food is quality. Great deals, friendly staff and you really cant fault the atmosphere in the resurant. 100% would recommend

Hurrah. Thank goodness the royal Gurkha has reverted to previous owners. I vowed never to return after a couple of really awful meals and service after they left. Sunil the previous manager is back!. The decline of 2017 is over! Our meal on the 9th March was excellent. Once more the lamb choila, roshon ada murgh, okra bhaji - and nice bottle of red. The staff are very courteous and kind.

A telephoned reservation request for a Wednesday ( offer day) was not confirmed ( but we got a table after a short delay) and the service, though friendly, was very slow...another staff member needed.. The restaurant appeared to have new staff.

El ferrocarril curry es excepcional y tiene liberar deliciosa en el cordero de la boca. También he probado el pollo tikka masala aquí y es delicioso. Mi otra mitad normalmente tiene un pollo madras y le encanta. Es sin duda una de las versiones de punzantes de este plato que hemos tenido y que está lleno de sabor. El servicio siempre es muy bueno. Muy atento y un poco de bromas ahora que son clientes habituales. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente! Nos hemos llevado toda nuestra familia allí y todo el mundo le encanta. We enjoyed the Wednesday special offer, a repeat visit, and were well pleased. Nothing exciting about the food but the chicken tikka and other dishes were good and nicely prepared, Service was discrete and efficient Lager nice and cold. Coffee ok

We wisely booked , as the restaurant was full with people waiting to be seated. On Wednesday there is a fixed price offer and on this basis the value was excellent. Service excellent, quality of eatables very good , excellent atmosphere. Cobra beer an excellent match.

Went their for the first time last night , I was on a table of 12, through restraunt was packed , the service was excellent, with speed and efficiently, the food was the best I have ever eaten , fresh and every dish was very well presented, the house wine I would also say was of very good quality, clean , tidy, and great atmosphere, all in all I would say do not ignore this restraunt, well done the royal gurkha, I amongst many others will return .

My family continue to regularly visit this restaurant. The food is good, we especially like the lamb choila, roshon ada murgh, okra bhaji - but have never had a bad meal whatever we have chosen. With a bottle of prosecco - this all adds up to a good evening. The staff are very courteous and kind.

Lovely evening, we ordered a selection of dishes and I have to say it's among the best curry experiences in the area. I had a fish curry which was just amazing, not super hot but a rich blend of flavours that was just wonderful. I tried a few of the other dishes around the table and have to say that this is one I will definitely be coming back to. They also take Taste card and run a Sunday special, which in our case worked out cheaper than the taste card.

Meeting an old friend, we decided to visit this pub/restaurant. The restaurant is separate and quite attractive. The smooth floor makes chairs easy to move. The service is excellent...efficient, discrete, and friendly. We were pleased to enjoy the special deal which is available on Wednesdays and Sundays Dinners. The poppadum, Nepalese starters( lamb)and mains( chicken) excellent and the orange and apple juices very good.Vegetables and rice very good too.The sweet menu appeared less attractive, so we declined and my coffee was average. My Wife, Daughter and I visited the Royal Gurkha yesterday (Sunday). We all really enjoyed the £10 deal and the Prosecco. My Wife said the Chicken Tikka Masala was the best she had ever eaten. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Made for a very enjoyable evening. I would suggest you try it.

I have used this restaurant for work lunches. They have been very accomodating and more importantly the food has been exceptional. The service provided by the staff has always been to a high standard.I recommend the Chicken Tikka Mahani and the Lamb Madras. We will be using them again in the near future.

Best curry around staff are amazing and you always feel welcome ... Wednesday's and Sunday's £10 deal is always worth it big portions and your not rushed out !! Nothing is ever too much to ask and staff treat you like family would highly recommend to anybody !!!

I have been in this place several time and always found it most enjoyable to be in there. They have upgrade there service and food quality. They are always there to provide you good service with good food. Best part is the 10£ deal which they do every Sunday and Wednesday. We are very happy with the portion in deal i.e stater,main, side and rice or naan. I am surprised how people find the manage to be rude whole village know how he is. I really recommend this restaurant for best Nepalese and Indian food.

Me and my friends were searching for good curry house. Now we have found a very good Nepalese Restaurent with ever lasting taste. People from Nepal who are also known as Bir gorkhali are giving there quality service with excellent food. We were there on offer day it was so busy. But also they were able to give there time to each and every one of us. Well managed. Thank you gorkhali for good curry. We will be back soon.

The food is excellent and well presented. The menu is varied and suitable for all tastes, the staff are very friendly and go the extra mile for customers and the service was fantastic. A place to go back to time and time again

This is our local curry house and since Sunil and family opened as The Royal Gurkah we get food from here once or twice a month. Mostly we get take-away's and the portion size and quality is excellent. Eating in is also nice - not quite silver service but a good & friendly local! Portion size is not as big as take-away but we never leave hungry...There are all the usual Indian favourites, but being Nepalese you also have other choices. If you want a really tasty curry without too much spice, try the Railway Lamb Curry, a traditional favourite the menu says. For spice, have the Gurkah Rifle. Our young children love the mild Chicken Tikka Masala. Highly recommended and a pleasure to be a regular.

Meeting old friends here for dinner was really great. The atmosphere was buzzy and the staff are very attentive, no rush to serve you although always asking how things are. The menu is different to a lot of similar restaurants and is served very hot on hot plates. Good choice of wine and beers at very reasonable prices. The only downside was we were seated in a corner near a fire exit and it was cold. Otherwise a great place to eat and chat.

This is a first time visit to The Royal Gurkha located on the A217 at Lower Kingswood. Formerly just a pub but now combining both pub on the left hand side and restaurant on the right. As you enter if you turn left you're in nothing more than an average pub but turn right and you will be greeted by warm, mellow decoration, no neon lights, subtle music to suit the occasion and generous amount of seating. Staff on my visit (along with three other gents) were very polite and helpful. The menu is very good, my friends are far more regular to curry houses than myself and they all said the menu was excellent. There's no point me dwelling on the meal which included initial snack poppadoms, starter and main course as it was faultless. Whilst I remember, this was a Tuesday evening so the restaurant wasn't full but I can imagine this to be a popular place for those who have uncovered this little gem. We enjoyed a long evening here catching up between friends without ever feeling that we were taking up space or precious time. Near the end we were given complimentary spirit drinks of our choice (I'm not promising this happens all the time!) and this is when it hurts me not to give the maximum five star treatment here. And why? Bearing in mind I am offering you the reader a review for you consider visiting the Royal Gurkha then i have to be fairly broad minded on the various types of people who might visit.The only toilets as far as we were aware are in the pub side of the property and to be honest the restaurant is really very nice with the decor and the toilets are a big let down. I'm not going to dwell on details about the toilets here only to say that these are used mostly by the pub crowd and perhaps they don't have too much consideration for diners in how they leave the facilities. However, I wouldn't mind betting that one day perhaps a new block of toilets will be built to accommodate just the dining guests. My four stars should be seen as a recommendation and I would certainly use it again. Ooh whilst I remember, unlike a large number of restaurants of this nature there is a decent real ale on offer by the pint. On this night it was Doom Bar bitter from Cornwall.

I have been in this restaurant quite often, I like the environment of this restaurant. Staff are very friendly and helps us to choose variety of testy food each time. Most of time they offer us complimentary stater which taste fabulous. Staff are their to give us best service and food which I like the most. Tasty food only to be let down by rude staff. Living locally we have always tried to support local businesses, and we're extremely happy with the food, but the manager / owner must question why if the food is good is the restaurant only ever half full. Answer. Your staff are rude and over familiar, and on my final visit to your eatery, the head waiter / manager commented on my guest having a big belly. Surely their job is to make customers welcome! Sorry guys you have got your very last penny out of me. Anyone else, with manners, wanting to start a good eatery local to Lower Kingswood, start up and you will have a good customer base, as long as you appreciate who pays your wages.

Restaurant nice, food ok, staff friendly. The bar attached to the restaurant however is a whole different story! Only people who frequent this pub are scaffolders etc who swear loudly, make other customers feel uncomfortable, oh and the small matter of the customers' absolutely blatant cocaine taking going on! Literally so, so obvious. You couldn't pay me to drink there.

This is one of the most friendly welcoming places that I have ever been to. Staff are so friendly and helpful especially if you want any advice on what curry to order. Food is always amazing. Well worth a visit. Can't recommend this highly enough. Give it a go - You will go back again.

Visted there a handful of times, just to watch the football and have a drink with some friends. First thing when I got there was a customer complaining about multiple rooms (as he wanted to stay). Looking past that the bar and facilities are awful, the beers warm and zero to no bubbles. The locals there are pretty nice but the odd few are extremely rude. the whole place is tatty nothing works how it's supposed to, it's not clean. I highly recommend you go somewhere else this place is an unenjoyable experience.

Every time I have eaten here the food has been great. It’s just not the generic curry you get at 90% of other places, it really is well above average. There are some interesting specials on the menu too that you won’t find elsewhere. The place could do with a lick of paint (and some) but the food and the service more than makes up for it.

We live locally and have used this restaurant on a regular basis. Unfortunately after the way we were spoken to last night we will not be going there again! We took some family there for a meal and we were all ordering what we wanted. The waiter questioned whether we actually wanted a whole portion of rice each as they were large. We decided to go with one each and as we were finishing ordering our meal I asked for an additional vegetable dish..... The waiter suggested to me that my eyes were to big for my belly!!!I have never been so insulted in my life and I did tell him I thought he was rude!!!! What we choose to order and pay for is down to us..... And I do have to say their portions have recently been resized and were small. We easily at it all... Starters and poppadoms included! I am afraid they have lost our custom!!!

I stayed in the accommodation in a single room. The room was filthy with drink stains up the walls, the shower didn't work no hot water at all. On top of that I turned the hot tap on the sink on and no water at all came out of it. Last of all I had hardly any sleep due to a bleeping sound going off right outside my room every minute all night. I certainly did not want to go back to work the next day, never again.

Since a year or so ago with new management the resturant has reverted to a proper restaurant area rather than having an open area with a pool table, which let's face it who wants to sit down to a peaceful curry with a pool table nearby. The separate bar area is pleasant so somewhere to have a beer, or two, and then a nice curry is perfect. Food is also good by the way !

I ordered a takeaway it was simply the worst attempt at a curry in 50years I have ever seen my chicken Bhuna dish consisted of pieces of chicken in a vile tomato sauce with nothing else added,my partner ordered a chicken biryani the vegetable current was a packet of frozen veg all little cubes with a disgusting attempt at a curry sauce..I have eaten curry the world over for 50 years not all to my taste but edible..if I had been eating in the restaurant I would have simply refused to eat it and would have walked out..I ate at the restaurant some years back and the food was good maybe the chef hadn't arrived but the food was simply the worst I have ever eaten

This has got.to be one of my favourite places if I'm in the mood for some seriously hot food. The staff know me well now and are happy to cook me food so hot that for their regular customers it may need a health warning.Gurkhali Lamb is my favourite. Have a Lachha Paratha or two with it. My wife likes the Malai Chicken. My daughters also like their Gurkha Rifle which is quite an interesting dish.It's a smallish place and on a cold winter night you can be guaranteed a nice, warm and decent atmosphere by very gentle mannered and welcoming staff. Great food, great service, nice atmosphere.

Nice interior of the restaurant, the staff seemed nervous for some reason (probably because the pub attached was getting filled with fans waiting to watch the England vs. Uruguay match)The pub served ales but they were not available within the restaurant despite the fact that we watched many meals being taken through to the pub from the restaurant.We stuck with the bottle of water that was on the table (and came to £3.50!)The starters (prawn puri, crab cakes) were bland and small.The mains (both king prawn) came with almost identical sauces that I could only describe as similar to Tikka Massala, that horrendous combination of cream, orange colouring and crap spices that was invented for English people with no palate.The rices (lemon, special pilau) were very good, but that's the best I could recommend here.It was also not cheap - comparable with the New Ghurka Kitchen in Regiate (excellent), but certainly not in terms of service or quality.One to avoid.

Plenty of tasty choices for you palate, most kind and attentive staff and let's not forget the good value for money. We have celebrated here many of our family special events, for example, my daughter's 21st birthday was marked with the banners, confetti on the table (I didn't even ask for it and all of it was complimentary) and she also received a gift! Simply fabulous every time!

Visited with a party of ten on a Sunday.The set menu consisted of a lamb curry or chicken korma plus a vegetable side dish and two choices of rice.The quality of the service and food was second to none with the lamb curry exceptional.What lets the place down is the standard of decor that is looking very dated and the toilets in particular have been on the receiving end of some substandard redecoration and are looking very tatty.With the the food being so good a top end refurb would really put this establishment on the map.

We went last Tuesday as part of a large group. Perhaps not the best first visit as obviously somebody had worked out a deal. We had buffet which consisted of a lamb curry, chicken tikka, a vegetable Dahl, rice, nam bread and spicy vegetables. It was eat as much as you can and all dishes were very tasty, except the Dahl, which could be my taste, but I found it a bit watery. The staff were helpful, but seating was a bit cramped and we had to sit near the fire which had been turned off, but still gave a lot of warmth off. I think we'll go back and try again as a family and eat a la carte.

Hello to all readers and everyone at Tripadvisor. I visited this wonderful restaurant yesterday to celebrate my 43. Oops..!! Did I mention my age ? Actually I look 22. It was raining all day in Sutton. Wet pools everywhere. My daughter requested that we beat the blues by going out for a tasty meal. I drive past this restaurant 4 times a week, never ever been there, though. And so I decided that we should try this place. What a heavenly meal....we had. Near to taste perfection. Super cosy warm restaurant. There are 2 entrances. One from the car park and one from the front, adjacent to A217. I got my family via the car park entrance and there was party going on in the pub. My mistake.....nevertheless. I didn't make a reservation. Got a nice neat table for four in 5 minutes. This is Friday evening...prime time. The food.....yummy gobbly yummy. Chicken tikka makhani, daal makhani, chappatis, butter naans, chicken biryani and hot vegetable curry. Followed by heavenly dessert......vanilla ice bowl, mango papaya ice cream and masala tea. Brilliant food. Both my kids finished their respective portions. So did the parents. It was that good. The service is exemplary. Very good. And a special thanks to Rajeev, who took care of us. Tasty, not overtly oily and good staff. Worth a trip out of Reigate etc to go. I don't go anywhere else now. Don't be dissuaded from going due to it being in a shared building as a pub.

I have now visited this restaurant on five occations,with the varied menue we have had a different meal every time(i do like trying new things).All the dishes were first class as was the service,all the staff were excellent.On one occation i took the family (9) people as they were very busy we had a short wait ,the staff were very apologetic towards us and even gave us a couple of free starters which was very nice of them.This is now my regular restaurant after 8 years of continuous visits to my local restaurant.

Fantastic food with great service. We were made to feel very welcome, adults and kids alike with polite and friendly staff who made a point of speaking to the children too.The Railway Lamb curry is a personal favourite but we have tried quite a few dishes now and all have been amazing, I definitely recommend it.There's a delivery service too, which is equally as good.After the meal we went into the bar area next door, which has a sweet machine for the kids. Again the staff were very attentive and we had a few extra drinks before setting off home.

You know when you order and they say 40 mins.. forget it.. not one of these guys has a watch... its friday i am tired and its 1 hour 10 mins and counting ..... be honest!!

Just well worth The money , good atmosphere friendly staff who really make the effort , great food food and cheap beers !! Can't say no more !

I was brought up in the village of Lower Kingswood and up until the Royal Ghurka opened I always got my curry from the Burgh Heath Tandoori.I have to say this restaurant is excellent. The food is extremely tasty and is always of this high standard every time I have eaten there or got a takeaway. The staff are always friendly, chatty and serve with a smile on there face. The deal on a Wednesday and Sunday of a starter, main dish, side dish and rice dish for £10 is amazing value and well worth doing. It is also a bonus that they do a english menu that caters for children who may not like curry if you go there as a family.All in all it really is a cracking venue and well worth a visit.

Excellent food (choila - starter, rogan ada murgh -main), really good friendly attentive service, and terrific value for money.

I am not a lover normaly of Indian restaurant type food and was taken here by friends who are.I was very pleasantly surprised and my wife was delighted.Very well prepared and presented food served by polite and smiling staff.Will definitely go again.

We went with some friends that have been several times and suggested we make up a 4. We went on a Wednesday evening when they do a special price for a starter, main course, a side dish together with a rice or nan for £10.00 a person. They also do this on a Sunday evening as well. Although you choose from the normal a la carte menu we felt the portions were smaller than would normally be expected, perhaps this was due to the offer, who knows. Having said that, the quality of the food was good and the staff friendly and attentive. We would certainly go back maybe on a non offer day to see if there is any difference. So to sum up we'll worth a visit on offer days but not the best curry in the area.

We have just visited this establishment for the first time since it was refurbished and we were not disappointed. The friendly welcoming staff and delicious tasty food made our anniversary meal one to be remembered. Highly recommended and will be going back again to try something different from the intriguing menu. Beware the Ghurka Rifle main course......it is hot!!! but delicious and remeber !!!

First of all as soon as i walked in i felt welcomed by the atmosphere and of course by the Staff. Friendly and perlite customer service didn't expect it but was amazed! The FOOD was mouthwateringly good and was made to my expectations! i would definitely recommend it every one!

We live just over the road and were gutted to see the decline of a once special local eatery called Lalakash. The place sat empty for just over a year, leaving Lower Kingswood without a village pub. Then early this year, the Royal Gurkha rises from the ashes with a great blend of Nepalese and Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices. On top of that, they also do a mixture of traditional "pub lunch" food (jackets and sandwiches) in the pub (they've reverted the interior to 50/50 pub and restaurant). Special offers on Wednesday and Sunday of 4 dishes for £10 have seen some turned away recently it's gone down that well and they received a 4star review from the local papers food critic last month.Always friendly and courteous on greeting and serving guests, Sunil, Suraj and the rest of the staff are running this family business in the heart of a small village in exactly the right way. Long may it continue (and not just because they've given me my local pub back!!)
