Royal Exchange in City of London, Westminster

Great to have a proper non-commercial, non-pretentious wet boozer in this area. It shows the football. I hate football, but even i would happily watch a game here with a pint from their decent selection, and reasonable prices. It draws an interesting crowd from all walks of life.

Unfortunate experience here the other night - have been coming to Thursday night disco here for years but sadly the management isn’t what it used to be. There was a mix up that resulted in us paying for one round of drinks twice. When we tried to raise the issue, showing proof of the transactions on my bank statement, the Manager was rude and dismissive and told us there was nothing he could do as they were ‘pending’. And then he just walked off. The transactions obviously stopped being pending by the next morning. Have tried ringing and leaving voicemails but no one has got back to me. Shame that another iconic London pub has fallen into the habits of petty management and greed. Don’t fall for this same scam.

My pregnant wife urgently needed to use a toilet while we were out in London, and despite not being customers, they welcomed her without hesitation. Really appreciate their generosity and compassion—says a lot about the kind of place they are. Will definitely be back to support them properly next time!

Proper pub, with fantastic staff and great locals. Went in to watch Newcastle beat Liverpool, and had a right time of it. Great craic with everyone in the pub, and the lad from Valencia behind the bar was one of the best barmen I’ve ever come across in 40 years of drinking. The Geordie tunes medley he put on (completely unasked for) after the tv coverage finished was just brilliant. Cracking touch.

This place has that cozy dive bar atmosphere that other pubs try to duplicate. But they have some legit great cask ales from Sharps so even serious beer lovers should seek this place out.

Private and , cosy place with good vibes. Drinks are good too, and good sports screens.

We went looking for a place to have a pint and we were surprised that the waiter was Spanish, so it was much better. We liked trying new beers and they were quite cheap, £14 for both, which in Spain they serve us at a similar price. Good atmosphere and few people, so we recommend that you go. We plan to return.

The best hole-in-the-wall pub in London. This small, antiquey feeling bar, run by an incredible team including Oscar and Caroline boast nothing out of the ordinary except how welcome you feel whether its your first or 50th time drinking there. Absolutely outrageous on a Thu music night. This lil pub, packs a punch!

Dark and dingy, not much going on, reasonably priced though, and had the football on

London's soul rises from its post-covid ashes on a Thursday night at the Royal Exchange. Boomers, GenX and GenZ brush shoulders in this anarchic party environment that ignites on the dance floor and spills out all over the street. The eclectic music, played by notable old school rockers, keeps everyone jumping around and the staff offer up a huge helping of good vibes with their exceptional, welcoming service. I never thought I'd say this about a trip down the pub, but it's probably the best night out in London at the moment.

The Royal Exchange Pub on the corner of Sale Place and St Michael's Street is a simple friendly pub. A smallish selection of cask and keg beers. Plenty of sport on the big screen. Music plays a part here too with a collection of decks awaiting vinyl when the sun goes down. A good rough and ready local pub.

Diego's hamburgers and sandwiches are highly recommended with a very rich smoky grill flavor, cuisine in which you can see the love he puts into it, the waiter recommended beers according to our tastes, very friendly. They have Guinness.

Doom Bar very good here. Three outside seats. Shared ours with delightful couple Mike and Rika who were very entertaining, point being it is a very friendly pub. It was Japanese disco night when we visited and they have other DJ's regularly. Nice area, not too snooty. Not a rip off pub.

We came in for a rest and a pint. Ended up staying for several and watched the football. Very good and friendly barman and a varied collection of locals/regulars made this a fun and very enjoyable afternoon. I shall definitely return soon!

🚇 Edgware Road 🍺 £5.50 Paulaner A Surviving Oldschool Paddington Boozer. The Royal Exchange is tucked away in a side street at the eastern end of Paddington. The nearest Tube is Edgware Road, it’s a three minute walk to get here. This pub was built in 1832, the name refers to the exchange of letters by royal mail by horse drawn coach which eventually ceased with the advent of the steam engine. This is a cosy one bar pub that is traditionally decorated. The servery is located on the right hand side and has a dark wood illuminated back bar. The bar area is split level with a snug located at the rear. The seating is a mix of green velour banquettes with matching green and red stools around copper and brass topped tables. Around the walls are two large TV’s plus some interesting artwork by a local artist who is a regular here. The beer line up was on point, there was a good mix of mainstream and craft beers plus one cask ale. I decided on a pint of Paulaner, my pint hit the spot, price point was excellent, this is probably the cheapest pint of Paulaner in London. The pub doesn’t serve food at present. I visited for an afterwork pint on a mild Friday afternoon in February. I was the only punter in, so I had a good mooch around the pub. Shortly after I arrived, a couple of tourists came in for a pint whilst working out where to visit in London. I had a lovely chat with the friendly barman, the Guv’nor was also friendly and took time out to tell me about this lovely little boozer. The pub has plenty on to keep you entertained. On Thursdays nights there is a DJ, there is also Japanese and Latin nights. This pub also shows live Premier League for all you footy fans. There are not many proper oldschool pubs left in the Paddington area, so it was great to see the @royalexchangepub cracking on. It does however struggle with footfall as there are about a dozen pubs closer to Paddington station. Was in town over Easter weekend and came here for some pints. It was just across the street from where we were staying so it was very convenient. We walked over on Friday evening and seen they were having a Country/ Reggae night and it was an awesome time. Service was excellent, met some fine people and stayed til closing time. Would definitely recommend.

Nice little simple pub to have a beer in the evening after a strenuous stroll around London. The prices are completely okay for London standards, we felt very comfortable and the staff and guests were extremely friendly.

A proper friendly community pub I discovered by chance close to Paddington Station. Nice beer (Atlantic Pale ale, plus other Sharps options, Munich Paulaner). Friendly, helpful bar staff. Both times I've been they were playing Reggae and Ska type music on some decks (which gets a thumbs up from me). Will definitely be returning. Didn't eat so can't comment on food.

Very nice local pub around Paddington area. Barman was really nice and helped me about football streaming on TV at 3pm, which no other barmens from different pubs did. Really recommend to get good pint here, my favourite is Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica.

Went here on 15th Dec it was the most least Christmasasy place I've been to! Not one bit of tinsel anywhere... There was a D.J. playing between reggae and classical and way too loud. Not great....

I went in for an afternoon beer. Had a lovely chat with the Chilean owner/manager/bartender while customer activity was light. Great atmosphere. Had to leave when I became hungry.

We stopped here during our visit to London to drink an IPA. It was delicious and the staff was nice.

I went on a recommendation from my next door neighbour and fell in love with the place just seeing the crowd outside. The amotsphere is totally relaxed and loved the music. What a gem!

Horrible bartender. The place was empty, the only staff was sloughing on a table. I politely asked if I could use the toilet and he told me: not really, it’s for customers only in a very rude, disinterested way. I went back to my van, got my wallet and paid £0.50 for a soda. You should not do hospitality when you’re not hospitable.

Visited London for the first time in November. Happened upon this spot and drank there every night I was in town. The owner and a few regulars, like Shaun, made it feel like my hometown stop in the States. Cheers boys!

Decent small pub with good beers on. Tried to watch football there though and tables taken up with people not drinking, whilst those that had pints were standing. Poor when presumably the pub operates as a profit making enterprise.

Lovely little pub. Characterful with a mix of people, a locals’ pub but everyone welcome. One very nice chap bought me a drink at last orders, had a really good chat afters. Really classy, fun young lady running the bar, a real natural at it, a throwback to the good old days. She asked me if I had any last requests for the music, which was granted (I asked for Lenny Kravitz) and she told me about the place, and where the fantastic paintings of London streets on the walls came from (no spoilers, go in and ask!)

Popper into this hidden gem on a Wednesday with a friend and was greeted by the fabulous Oscar the manager. The atmosphere was luveky even though it wasn't overly busy Grey goose was available so no complaints from me. My friend and I ordered Quesadillas at the bar, and I can honestly say it was one if tastiest snacks I've had in a bar. If you're in the area the Royal Exchange is a real find.

Proper traditional London pub, a rarer commodity than used to be the case. Lively and friendly crowd, good service.

The beer was okay but served in plastic cups. Overcrowded hence had to stand outside in the chilly weather.

This was the best find at Notting hill carnival. Such a blessing! What a pub, great service, brilliant music.

I really liked this place. They have a good beer selection (they even have Paulaner), outdoor seating, football and the whole place felt quite authentic and local, which was amazing. The pub also serves several Mexican snacks, like nachos (they were solid, I must admit). I would strongly recommend this place!

MUST. One of the best pubs in Paddington area.

Only popped in one lunchtime recently for a quick pint before heading back North. Still great. The place has changed a little bit (for the better) from the early 1980’s when it was a very regular haunt of mine. Back then, it served the best pint of Guinness in London and a fantastic Salt Beef sandwich - great after a long shift working A&E at St.Mary’s Hospital. Glad to see the Salt Beef sandwich still on the menu… I may have to stop in again for a bit longer, next time I’m in London… 👍🏻

Stumbled across this place last night, packed to the rafters with an amazing group of people from all walks, eclectic wasn't the word. Great selection of beers and the most random music. Will definitely visit again, worth a trip for fans of a "proper pub"

This was my local for a week in August 2017. Loved the place, proper local boozer, full of locals, boozing.

I arrived wearing a fedora and a hazelnut corduroy jacket and immediately felt at home. The conversation with both staff and customers was cordial and friendly. Looking forward to visiting once again.

A great selection of interesting drinks and a new owner giving the place a new lease of life. I'll be back!
