Firstly very pleasant and attentive staff. Restaurant is spotless. Now the food, Bean Curd starter was amazing followed by Twice Cooked Pork which was to die for. Wife had Jiang Bao Chicken and Soft Noodles. Best Chinese meal we have ever had. Brilliant dining experience.

My wife and I frequented this restaurant regularly until we realised the quality of the food and service was terrible. After over two years of going elsewhere, we finally returned on the 29 of February. I am now happy to confirm that our decision to leave was the right one. Our meal was disgusting. The BBQ spare ribs were tasteless chuncks of fat and gristle. The beef curry was a gloopy mess with chunks of overcooked oinion. We counted three peas. The beef had no taste with a texture I can only describe as unknown. Let's try to finish on a high. The chips were OK.

We have used this Chinese for many years both take away and restaurant. Ordered our take away at 645 to be told 45 mins. Headed down for 730 to a scene of very irrate customers. After waiting 10 minutes to be spoken to I spoke to other customers who had been wanting an hour and 15 mins for their "30 minute order". There was customers coming back who only received half their order as well. I approached a member of staff and asked for an honest answer on how long my order will be she said "late". I then cancelled my order. A completely wasted journey. The frustrating thing was that rather than helping the other frustrated customers they continued to take phone orders. Pure greed from the management which will back fire on them as all they were doing was letting more people down.

We booked a table on a Friday night expecting the restaurant to be busy … however it was not despite Stonehaven being a very busy town for visiting campers …they really should make the effort to come to this marvellous restaurant. We had a set meal and the food quality was excellent, delicious and well above average. There were three of us and we opted to have a set meal for two, the food we got was more than adequate, the quantity and quality was superb. We will definitely return.

Could not fault this restaurant in any way. The staff were attentive, the restaurant was spotless and the food was excellent. The waitress was very particular in standing back while taking orders to try and maintain as much social distancing as possible and it was obvious the restaurant was taking great pains to make sure COVID regulations were followed. The food was excellent - we were a table of 5 consisting off myself, my wife, daughter, son-in-law & granddaughter (6). I had the Thai green curry which tasted wonderful and didn’t burn with chilli like it can do. My wife had the chicken chow Mein which was loaded with chicken. My daughter had the lemon chicken which she found to be wonderful and my son-in-law had the chilli beef which was also very good. My granddaughter had chicken & sweetcorn soup and fried soft noodles both of which she devoured with relish. The meal was a delight and the staff were courteous attentive and extremely diligent in their duties both keeping the customers safe and serving. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and will definitely frequent it again next time I’m in Stonehaven.

We have been to the restaurant twice and both times the food was excellent. Tonight we popped in for buffet dinner, priced at £18.99 per adult and about £9 per child and we thought it was a very good value. The selection of dishes were very good and we could order whatever we liked at a steady pace! The starter was especially good, the crispy wun ton, butterflied prawns and Peking spare ribs were our favourite. The second course of duck was equally excellent, the meat very succulent and not dry at all. We visited the place with our two young children and they enjoyed the meal as much as we did. Service efficient and the waiting staff exceptionally attentive and friendly and unlike some Chinese restaurants, the food wasn’t too highly seasoned, but just right! Highly recommend the place! We can’t wait to go back again, next time we will take our extended families, as it would be an ideal place to have a big family dinner on Sunday. Big thumbs up!

Heard lots of good reports about this Chinese so thought I would try their take away but was very disappointed. Ordered the Chicken satay skewers but they were very dry and the satay sauce had no chunks of peanuts and was extremely sweet. The fried noodle and bean sprouts had more onion than bean sprouts and the chicken with cashew nuts had lovely big pieces of chicken, but only had barely a handful of cashew nuts and was swimming in sauce. The restaurant and take away were busy, so perhaps my choices were not up to scratch that night!

Don't be put off by the staff who can be slightly rude and stand-offish, the food is fantastic and well worth it. They have an "all you can eat" buffet on a Thursday and a Sunday which is when I always go, for £18.99. It is not a self serve buffet, like Cosmo or Jimmy Chungs, but you get to select a starter, main and side from the special menu. You can order more if you want to, although the staff can be pretty stingey and give you small portions or try to encourage you to "not waste food," but my advice is just keep ordering if you want to. The quality of food is amazing and each course is beautiful. The best Chinese around for miles. I would 100% recommend this restaurant. Good value for money!!

This is a great Chinese, the food is very, very good. So many Chinese eateries have fallen by the wayside, but this one is how we all want our Chineses to be - it's reliably top notch. I get takeaways from here most weeks and the occasional dine-in dinner. The people who work there are really nice and the restaurant itself is comfortable and pretty - great for a celebration night or just relaxing dinner with friends. It gets busy at weekends, so book ahead. I took my four-year-old for a 7pm booking and it was fine, but she got bored with the grown ups chat and kicked off. I'm not going to tick the box that says it's good for kids as it's a proper grown up restaurant, but I would say kids are welcome. (Maybe take your own colouring books or iPad!)

Well what can I say, we have been here on one previous occasion and thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but last night it is probably best to say will be the last time we visit the Royal China. On entering the premises we had to try and negotiate a crowd of people waiting for their takeaway meals, some of these poor souls had been waiting for an hour and a half.We eventually got shown to our table where we ordered drinks and had a look at the menu, we were given one tiny bowl of prawn crackers between four adults.Starters and main courses ordered we the proceeded to wait and wait and wait for our starters to arrive, probably took around 40 minutes to arrive, the main courses arrived about half an hour after starters had been eaten, lukewarm, tasteless and not a very decent helping would best describe our mains. Also I do wish they had turned on the heating, it is February after all. There really needs to be a better system sorted out for dealing with the takeaway customers as they have to stand and wait right beside diners who are seated at tables, not good and a very dissappointing night out.Ian

Been to to this chinese restaurant twice now, after a recomendation from my girlfriends workmate who is from the area. Once before where we ate of the menu and recently for my birthday which fell on a sunday which was buffet night. Unlike most buffets in and around edinburgh where we live where you grab a plate fill up and tuck in, Royal china offer a set menu buffet. New to this we didnt understand the concept, but it was simple you order what you want and they bring it over fresh. Food was excellent, hot and so delicious was amazed by the buffet. Not the biggest choice in the world, but ticked all my boxes. Had such a lovely birthday meal with my other half, and without a word of a lie possibly the best chinese meal i've ever eaten. Service was good as well, and didnt even have to wait on any courses coming. We visited the Royal China for the first time on Friday night. It was very quiet (which is unusual apparently) and there were only two other groups in. The restaurant it's self was warm and clean plus, the food was very good. The down side was that while very polite the staff had no interest in us. We ate to the sound of table cloths being industriously scrubbed, cutlery being moved and dropped in large amounts and we were treated to a demonstration of how to deep clean a bar plus surrounding area. We would really have liked to order more food and drinks but found it impossible to get anyone's attention. Even paying the bill was difficult as they were all too busy cleaning. In the end we gave up and got more food and drink from the Co-op and took it home. Would I go back? Only if I could not get in somewhere else.

A nicely decorated restaurant in the centre of the town which held out some promise, BUT it wasn't very long before I started to get quite cold, having expected the restaurant to have some type of heating on. Thirty minutes into the whole experience and my legs were turning to ice, however I suppose it's that time of year when it's difficult to make a decision on heating the place. In its favour the service was quick and efficient and the menu was quite good so I then applied my litmus test for any Chinese restaurant that I haven't been in . I ordered the ribs as a starter and the nasigoring (Singapore fried rice) for mains. The ribs were juicy and succulent but there seemed to be a slight shortage of them on the plate, perhaps by two or three. Well it was only a starter and the ribs were good so my expectations were reasonably high. To be fair, the Nasigoring was tasty and there was just about enough of it to fill me up, nowhere near the quantities I have experienced in other restaurants. My main complaint is that when you are paying a tenner for a rice dish you expect some meat on it. I can visualise my last nasigoring in The Jasmine House in Llandudno. Loads of chopped pork and chicken in the rice and topped with slices of pork and chicken, not the blow up watery chicken that Chinese restaurants seem to specialise in nowadays. The chilli was fresh and sliced and even the traditional fried egg was on top - a rarity in these days. Cost was about £7-£8 and a world away from what I have just experienced . I suspect all of this is down to false economy. My meal with its tiny little bits of ham & chicken (although it could have been anything , it was chopped so small) must have cost less than £1 to make. Anyway, I've made my point and I do accept that other dishes could be different, but not my wifes incidentally, which also needed a magnifying glass to spot the meat. Needless to say, we will not return which is a pity because there was real potential!

Had a carry out today from here. Very efficient on the phone. Not overtly friendly on picking up. Fried rice was ok, but nothing to write home about....basic in content and non glutinous. Just OK.

A family group of six of us pre booked a table on Friday night. We all really enjoyed our starters and main meals two of us asked for our prawns to have no batter and this was no problem for them. It is slightly lacking in atmosphere but still quite nice

I came to Stonehaven for 2 days on business and I visited the royal china restaurant on the first night. After looking here on tripadvisor the reviews for this restaurant were on the whole good, and I was in the mood for chinese so I was excited to try the food. I ordered the spicy tom yam soup to start and it was pretty awful to be honest. The soup was like warm water with a few chillies in and the king prawns were slimy and chewy. I ordered the singapore fried rice for my main. The flavour of the rice was actually not too bad but there was a minuscule amount of meat in the dish so the value for money was not there at all and I was left hungry. I was amazed at the speed that both meals came out, which is never a good sign.Do not come here and expect a surprise because you won't get one. If you expect an average meal that has been warmed up in a microwave then that is exactly what you will get. The service was not bad so not totally terrible, but still very poor and a massive disappointment.

I visited the Royal China with work colegues and we selected to share various selections. The resaurant has good decor and plenty of room to dine. The food was plentyful and of very good quality, we all had more than enough for the 6 of us.I highly recommend the Royal China for that special night out. They also do a take away.

Freshly prepared, excellent food served by very-friendly and knowledgeable staff. The restaurant is very welcoming in every way. The takeaway is also very good but it can't compare to the full sit-in experience which is truly excellent.

Tried this establishment after being recommended and all I can say is that this establishment needs to seriously review their food and their customer service which are both awful! We ordered a take away set meal for two & a portion of squid. We only tried the starters which were bland, sauces were out of a jar, and you can tell. The fried food was dripping with oil and extremely soggy! We did open the main course dishes but they looked the same. We called the restuarant and they said they would refund he cost £31.70 but on arrival a delivery driver came out to the car and the staff inside did not even bother to come and apologise.........poor, poor, poor and a bad customer experience, if they had said sorry and they would speak to the chef that would have been better! Such a shame, good food and good service is what sets any restuarant apart from the others! I would not recommend!

group booked this and food was fine. Been previously and have never been disappointed. Service was maybe a wee bit slow but it was obvious that there were new starts and a notice stated they were looking for staff.

Fancied eating Chinese food..found this on the Internet. Really quiet in Sunday night but takeaway trade plainly buzzing. Chose a set banquet menu for 2. The food was outstanding! Really as good as any we've eaten. Staff lovely too. If you're staying in Stonehaven and fancy eating in...please don't be put off if the restaurant itself isn't busy! Superb food!

Disappointed with our meal, both my partner and myself had to ask if they would top up the buffet selection. We both got a first plate of food but by the time we were ready for a 2nd a lot of the trays were empty! We waited just short of 40 minutes for fresh food to be put out and then we had to ask for a sweet and more drinks. The staff were not busy only 3 tables of couples in the restaurant yet they seemed reluctant to actually serve us. We will not be in a hurry to return here which is a shame as it would have been a treat had the service been better.

Ordered the basic chicken curry and chips to see how that was, as a guage lol. It was very good, tasty and nice and hot (temperature not spicy). Randomly had mushrooms in it, rather than peas but still tasted good. Order was ready early, bonus! Its a bit pricey but so is everything nowadays 🙄. Well done. I will try another dish next time for my review.

I've been using duo duo for Takeaways for years. It has always been my favourite Chinese but unfortunately this time (and last time) it has been disappointing. The chicken curry was still good but unfortunately the salt and pepper chips were a big disappointment. They looked like leftovers that had been reheated and had hardy any onions/chillies in them. I have had much better salt and pepper chips in other Chinese Takeaways. They really need to improve this big time!

If you are a vegetarian stay away! I recently ordered a vegetarian dish and found a piece of chicken. This is not acceptable and I was horrified. Please seriously review your cross-contamination measures (if any). Poorly handled when notified. Do not recommend and will not return.
