Yan in Aberdeenshire

Awful! Not at all authentic Thai food. It was a busy Saturday evening. Tom Kha had been split with chilli oil on top and lacked flavour with too much coconut milk it was a small portion with big slices of red onion. As for the Pad Thai noodles!! These were very poor, just noodles with soya sauce and a few bean sprouts rather than the flavorful dish with vegetables and tofu which should have been served. The Massaman curry had pineapple which is weird! The only saving grace is that Singha beer was available. The deep fried wontons overcooked. I have eaten here several times before and now I would definitely avoid.

Hogmanay meal. Ordered for 3, but fed 4. Food, service and ambience was lovely. HNY for 2024!!! 😁👏👏👏

Very disappointed when booked table for tonight to find many more tables had been crammed in to the normally busy restaurant. This meant it was so crowded staff had difficulty moving between the tables. Food was excellent and staff perfect but not the experience I booked to have.

We ordered a Takeaway. Crispy seaweed was crispy Kale with sprinkling of sugar and 10 % seaweed. Chicken satay starter was very dry and tough, even with sauce. The yan ribs were very tough almost inedible. So disappointing 😞 we used to go regularly before covid. Won't be back. What happened to the food at Yan Restaurant Westhill?

Family member went for a meal and were quite unwell afterwards. Very disappointing and will be avoiding from now on.

Terrible. Ordered special duck which turned out to be aromatic duck mixed in with plum sauce straight from a bottle.. there was no onion or veg only strips of cucumber?! Bland and sone the duck was inedible. For third visit in a row the rice was old and chewy even after I was promised if it would be freshly cooked. I checked the rice in reception area and instantly knew it wasn’t up to par. Instead of replacing the rice the manager offered to take the whole meal back and refund without even considering to only replace the rice. 11 minutes from order to receiving meal only indicates that microwaves are the method used which was evident with my partners lemon chicken which was also a laughable standard. I’m 29 years in the catering trade and i know Chinese are never perfect but the price was horrendously expensive for the quality produced. We won’t be back.

Food is awful. Sweet sour sauce tastes like vinegar. Wontons were soggy and mushy. Noodles don't have any taste. Would highly recommend to avoid.

I was here for a work celebration. The food was fantastic, and a very good selection. I heard no complaints about the food, and we had a wide selection of dietary requirements.

We had the two course set lunch menu. Reasonable choice across both starter and main courses with beef, chicken and vegetable options. You then have a choice of steamed rice, fried rice or noodles as an accompaniment. Everything was piping hot, well presented and a decent portion size. All in all we thought it was very good and excellent value for money. .

We had a take away from Yan's this evening we were so disappointed with both meals. I had the Lemon Chicken it was so salty & bits of the chicken were tough. Other meal was number 219 prawns with mushrooms he thought so much more onions than prawns & tasteless. I am sorry to have to write this review but this was supposed to be a treat & it certainly was not.

Ordered chicken fried rice takeaway but rice came boiled not fried....white no soya sauce. Had egg and peas but was not enjoyable.

We have come here for our child free dinners the last 6 months. It’s pricey but usually worth it. Very disappointing this evening, we had the banquet for 2. The main meal 4 small pieces of chicken per dish. I asked for plain noodles it came and I said I asked for plain as to which I got a response, no you didn’t. However it was exchanged and the noodles I did get were hard, crunchy and dry. For the price we were very disappointed and wouldn’t return.

Called in with a couple of colleagues, had the sesame prawn toast to start and the duck in plum sauce for main with the chicken and pineapple rice just to try something new. It was all very tasty and well presented. The young waiter seemed a little inexperienced and the way he stacked the plates up in front of us felt a bit like we were sat in the potwash but we all start somewhere, he was very polite.

Our local chinese was closed today so we tried this one and will never go back. Rice was rock solid, the noodles was just as bad and it cost an absolute fortune. Very poor take away avoid!!

Outstanding service and fantastic food as always. Staff are brilliant, polite and attentive. This was after receiving a real bad dinning experience earlier the same weekend.

Visited on a Saturday evening. Greeted by very pleasant young waitress and shown to our table. Food was below average, congealed and gloopy sauces, not authentic food in our opinion. Had the feeling it was microwaved to order resulting in a very disappointing dining experience. Wine (house white) was also unpleasant. Had high hopes for Yan but unfortunately for us it did not meet our expectations

Unfortunately a poor experience from what is usually very good. Not one smile from any member of staff the whole night. Ordered 5 drinks and 2 came but when asked where the other 3 were I was told they had no lemonade! They couldn’t even come and let us know and ask what else we would like. Crispy duck was tough and tasteless and not worth £20. Not one member of staff barely exchanged a word the whole time. Very disappointing experience and wouldn’t probably go back!

I came here on Saturday night. It was very busy with customers sitting in and takeaway orders. The service was very good. The food was delicious. The value for money is very fair. I would highly recommend this place to others.

Absolutely lovely food, one of the best I've ever had! Staff were wonderful and very efficient and it was quite a cosy place with a welcoming feeling. A bit on the expensive side but definitely worth it! The place is easy to find and plenty of free parking. Perfect!

Sliced chicken in oyster sauce. Not sliced chicken at all and not oyster sauce just some bland mess. Really disappointed over £10.00 for something like this.

Great place for Saturday night dinner

Very nice oriental restaurant, butterfly King prawns was a great starter although a bit hot when the came out. I had the Thai green curry and pad Thai noodles for a main. If I was back in the area, I would visit again.

A Mother’s Day visit to this restaurant was a big disappointment. We had dumplings for starter which were tasty enough then things went downhill. The three main courses were a beef black bean dish, a fried lamb dish and a green chicken curry. If you had worn a blindfold you would not have been able to tell them apart and the lamb especially was a weird rubbery texture with a gluppy sauce. The curry was bland with no heat whatsoever and the black bean dish was tasteless. The side of Singapore noodles was very small and overpriced. The only redeeming factor was the friendly young waitress. My advice is go elsewhere, we certainly won’t be back as could prepare a tastier Asian meal at home!!!

I really enjoyed it here, the restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks from the carpark and when we arrived it was really busy with a nice atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and professional and the food was amazing. I had a nice kick in my volcano chicken and my work mate loved his special curry. Nice clean toilets and plenty of parking 👍🏻

It's very good food, but it's very pricey.

Wonderful venue, went here for my 60th, had the party room to ourselves but glass dividing doors didn't make it feel cramped. Staff attentive but not overly so. We'd been here for a mates 60th last year and chose to drive 70mls from Fife as we'd had such a good time.

'takeaway service' doesn't exist on a Saturday when calling at 4.30pm for 7.30pm delivery. Why bother stating it online?!?! Rude manager, pathetic service. Explanation being the waitor needs to look after the restaurant customers......get a delivery driver, its Saturday night.

I came here Saturday 17:30. The food was delicious. I’d recommend the shredded chilli beef. The prices are reasonable - we were £30 for two people. The service was fine - Jane is always very nice. We will definitely come back again.

Good lunch and friendly service

As we were in westhill we thought we’d try Yan. The food was great and service was quick however we weren’t impressed with the attitude of (maybe manager?) Ciprian who we spotted multiple times speaking down to younger workers who were new to the job and weren’t given the time, patience or respect. If this is how they are being treated in-front of customers then I dread to think what it’s like behind closed doors. Sadly, this atmosphere angered us and lead us to leave early. I’m not one to complain but life is hard enough for young people and they don’t deserve to be spoken to in this way, especially when doing nothing wrong.

So basically…. I told the other Chinese in westhill that they weren’t great. They pretty much told me to try Yan. Great suggestion. Best takeaway I’ve had in ages. 👌🏼

Friendly, polite, service first class, food excellent. Cost for 4 starters, mains, drinks, tea/coffee and bottle wine less than £130. Will definitely visit again.

Absolutely outstanding amazing lemon chicken and sweet and sour chicken as well but I can’t tell you about the other stuff cause I haven’t tried them because the lemon chicken is too good

I shared a lovely experience at Yan recently. I had lovely rainbow shredded chilli beef which was delightful. The service at Yan was impeccable and improved my experience greatly. My waiter was “zain” and she was extremely friendly and helpful.

Came here on Friday evening. The food was delicious. I would recommend the shredded chilli beef. The service was first class. The bill came to under £70 for four people which was good value for money. We will definitely come back again soon.

After having a lovely meal from the neighbouring Szechuan takeaway earlier this week, thought I'd try a meal at Yan Oriental Restaurant today. Sadly, I can't comment on their food as I wasn't allowed to eat there. Not because they were full – only one table was occupied – but because I only wanted one main meal and was told I wasn't eating enough to warrant me sitting at a table. Speaking to the owner, she explained that with their costs – such as washing the table cloth – it wasn't financially viable for them to let me eat in. While I sympathise that they won't make a lot of money out of my one meal, I think they're very shortsighted. I may have returned in the future with a group of people or written a great review about them, which would help their business. I explained this to her but she didn't seem interested. So, instead, I come away irritated by their attitude and writing a negative Google review. It's also likely I'll mention this experience to people I know, which will create bad press for them. I'm always amazed when businesses like this make such bad choices. Sometimes, you need to speculate to accumulate, and I really don't believe they would have lost a great deal of money by letting me eat there.

Different class this place....well worth a visit

Service was excellent. Staff were communicative and helpful. The food was delicious and sensibly proportioned. It was a large restaurant and very busy, with several families of all ages and also other groups, like ourselves. The atmosphere was buzzing and happy,. which I would say is very positive.

Enjoyable Chinese restaurant serving up Thai food too. Quality of the food was excellent, good value too. Staff very pleasant and attentive. But the restaurant loses a star for lack of a tipping facility through a card payment. If you do it....the workers on the ground don't get it (apparently). Felt like the family were being 'huried along' a little too. Not a big deal though and never did we feel under undue pressure.

Staying at the hotel in Westhill for work, this has been an excellent recommendation from my taxi driver. Last time we had the set menu B and was so good I visited again tonight, and had the chicken curry with house special friend rice. Really tasty, generous portion size and well priced. Reassuringly clean with friendly staff who were there when needed but without invading space. Quiet on a weeknight with good spacing between tables. Will certainly be back. If you're not feeling like going out then certainly worth a take away. Thanks.

Yan is located in a small shopping arcade opposite a decent hotel, its furnishings are modern with a touch of a fusion menu of Thai and Chinese, we arrived at 10:30 pm after a long drive from London to Aberdeen and the hotel restaurant was closed, Yan fitted us in despite the kitchen being close to closing, tasty food and cold drinks were most welcome, we had sliced chicken and oyster, satay beef, steamed rice, soft drinks for two and pad thai noodles, all great for a total bill of £32.55 representing good value.
