Beautiful food, really kind and welcoming staff. Will definitely return. I would say the chips with Salt and Chilli were slightly spicier than I've come to expect from Chinese takeaways and personally I LOVED this. However, if you don't like it hot then let them know you'd like less chilli.

Have eaten here several times. The overall experience has been superb. I have no respect for the people here who are attempting to make a career by leaving damaging reviews. If the food is that bad then complain at the time and ask for a refund. It is cowardly, dishonest and utterly disrespectful to eat the food and then leave a bad review! Why not stay at home and learn to cook?

Must be the worst Chinese takeaway ever..... The salt & chilli ribs were brick hard impossible to chew, the beef curry had 4 bits of unchewable beef, the chips were hard reheats, have had Chinese all over the UK and will never return back here......

Fried rice was disgusting 🤢. obviously had been frozen then heated up, wasn't free like rice should be.

Absolutely revolting. Probably the worst Chinese I've ever tasted. Ordered the beef in oyster sauce and it literally tasted of a sweated out carrot. Bland. Save your money and get an Indian or cook yourself.

Avoid the fried rice! Just not good. The duck was great however, and I enjoyed the corn soup as well. Fast from counter service to pick up. Easy to grab quick groceries at the coop next door during your ten min wait. Can eat in the park across the street on a nice day.

We're visitors to Ballater, and.we really enjoyed our meal. The chow mein in particular was lovely!

Take away/Take out only place. Attendant seen annoyed we ask questions. We order Fried rice, steak and pepper, chicken curry and chicken chop suey. The curry was ok chicken was spongy. The chic6chop suey was horrible and rice was almost inedible. Tasted like has been reheated several times. The best one was the steak and peppers. Al gave this place a try because of the reviews. I you are use to USA stile Chinese Take out stay away from this place.

Drove from Braemar as we were desperate for a takeaway. First time trying this place. Ordered the mixed starters, chicken in oyster sauce and chicken foo yung. Was a good 15-20 drive back to Braemar but food was still piping hot. Got to say this was one of the tastiest Chinese takeaways we have ever had. All food super fresh, plenty of tender chicken and oozing flavour! Every takeaway has a bad day, please, give it a try….we’ll definitely be back!

We were en route to Inverness and decided to stop if for tea at 6pm. Ordered Shredded chilie beef , pancake rolls, fries , and a special chow mein dish . I certainly didn't order Shredded deep fried batter strips in a tasteless watery red soup. Or did I order a tub of flavourless empty dough rolls . Nor did I order hollow tasteless crispy things .... that was the fries but could have been the rolls . And finally the Chow Mein . Well that did have flavour but only just . I've eaten sudo Chinese food all over the world but this was beyond belief . People in Ballater are easily pleased

Food seemed nice enough, however woke up this morning to discover my vegetable spring rolls actually contained chicken. Considering the whole meal was supposed to be vegetarian this is incredibly off putting. I’ve spent this morning being sick thanks to this. If you have dietary requirements or food allergies make sure to avoid this place.

We visited the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway while in Ballater. The special curry was the best we have ever had. The meat was plentiful and tender and at least 4 king prawns in each curry. The sauce was perfect, medium/hot and plenty of it. At £6.30 each price was very reasonable for a tourist town. Would recommend

I had just finished climbing Ben Macdui and all of the restaurants were closed. We decided to try this takeaway. My wife and I both had the vegetarian chow mein and I had a portion of chips as well. After 12 hours walking I was really hungry and this hit the spot. The portion size was really good, I was full after the chow mein. It was piping hot, crispy and crunchy and cooked to perfection. The chips were also crispy and cooked to perfection. I was more than satisfied after eating this meal.

We were staying in a nearby village on a short break. Went to the village to get some shopping and decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway. Food was good quality, tasty and cooked fresh to order. We were happy.

Greasy, poor quality and very unpleasant staff when explained the issue. A layer of greasy fat in the bottom of the tray/box. Never again. Go somewhere nicer.

Singapore fried rice was very good, loads of meat and quite spicy, Young chow fried rice had more meat in it than any other Chinese take away I've tried and I've had a lot. Price was good and the wait of about 10 min was acceptable.

The food was really good. The chips we had were possibly the best chips I’ve ever eaten! Only negative was I’d have liked a bit more variety of veg in my chow mein but it was lovely all the same. Would go again.

Fast and friendly service. Roast duck was perfectly crispy and plum sauce was very nice. Great salt and chili chips as well - not too soggy or salty like a lot of other chineses

This Chinese takeaway is slightly unprepossessing and has a standard menu with the expected items. We ordered a range of main course dishes plus a couple of vegetarian side dishes and both noodles and rice. We were extremely impressed by the quality of the food that arrived. As mentioned, these were bog-standard chinese takeaway items but really well done. We massively over-ordered but the four of us managed to eat our way through ten trays of food. All the family wished that they had tried this takeaway on our first day in Ballater rather than our last as we could easily have found an excuse to order from them again. Shame that we live 500 miles away!

Whilst visiting in our motorhome we fancied a Chinese meal after not having one from anywhere in over 12 months. We ordered Szechwan Prawns, Mixed veg curry and chips. Ready in 10 min. Plenty of Veg, full cartons. hot and tasty. Please be aware the szechwan in hot... Chips were fresh and quite chunky which is good for us. Excellent and covid safe.... Cash only....

During our stay in Ballater we decided to try out the local Chinese Takeaway as many places are still reduced due to the current pandemic. we ordered starters and main-courses for 5 adults so quite a spread and I have to say this is probably one of the best Chinese Takeaways we have had for a very long time. All food was very hot when delivered and so tasty. The Squid was cooked to perfection which is always a good test to any restaurant. When we are back in Ballater next for sure we will come back and already looking forward to a fab meal. Staff was very friendly.

Ive never eaten such rubbish!!! Satay chicken cxxp pork curry cxxp chips dry. Overpriced and expensive. Im sure it was all the same sauce they used. An for the speed ping ping microwave. A freshly prepared meal would usually take 15 minute not 30 seconds....

I ate a curry from here sat on a park bench in the rain enjoying the view of Ballater. I had chicken curry and rice and it had a bit of heat in it which was fine but I’ve just two things that stopped me marking it a five. Firstly there was far too much onion for my taste so had to fish most of it out and secondly the chicken which was fine was in the main a little too large so needed cutting which wasn’t possible sat on a park bench with a plastic fork but I did enjoy it.

As a family we have been fortunate enough to eat Asian food from Hong Kong to Helensburgh and Singapore to Dundee. We love the grub - as authentic as possible. So.... Last Friday we decided to give the New Shanghai, Ballater a go. As a centre for Highland tourism we hoped for a quality treat of Chinese cuisine.

It was so tasty last time - came back for more, with extra family. So we got to try more dishes. The dishes taste like the description, not always the case from takeaways. The Duck in black bean sauce was exceptional!

We had a couple of meals from here and the bottom line is that it is a perfectly good Chinese takeaway, without being exceptional.

Front of house for a Chinese takeaway was fun, colours, chairs, etc. Steady flow of customers - always a good sign. Food stayed hot for the 20 min drive to cottage. Food was good, tasty - just what we wanted. Thanks

Sadly poor interpretation of Chinese food. When we opened the boxes we were unable to tell what each dish was. Some of it quite unpleasant. Maybe caught it on a bad day but won't be going back I'm afraid.

Fuera de la media ración de pato que habíamos pedido había probablemente un par de cuchara llena de pato real, el resto era LA PIEL!! El arroz frito y los fideos eran normales.

Pedimos llevar desde aquí después de un largo día de turismo y para contribuir a romper lejos de platos tradicionales locales. El menú era bastante variado con muchas opciones. Pedí el pato Pekín con arroz, un lado de pollo satay, mi esposa tenía rollitos de primavera, y mi esposa y yo pedimos sopa caliente y amarga.

I had hot and sour soup with real Chinese fungus, not mushrooms like you get in the US. It was great! I also had the veg. spring rolls which were also very good. My only complaint is that they don't take credit cards and we had difficulty with the cash machine near the restaurant.

We stayed in the area for 4 days and one night opted to get a takeaway. You'll notice more recent reviews paint a much more positive picture for this takeaway. Service was quick and the food all good quality. Reasonable prices. Would certainly re-visit if in the area.

Used to be a regular user of this takeaway. Now on the last few occasions , the food had what I can only describe as been reheated.On the final occasion we returned the takeaway where the young member of staff was extremely rude.We Will not be returning .

We had a nice takeaway from here while staying in Ballater. Portions sizes meant we had enough to eat for lunch the next day as well! Not cheap but not too expensive, it was prepared very quickly on a busy evening.

We phoned our order in and within 20 mins it was ready to be collected, food was still piping hot when we arrived back at our lodge and it was all delicious, definitely recommend.
