Royal China in Isle of Wight

Fantastic place, working away, forget the negative reviews, food portions large, including the starters, tasty and staff, owners were fantastic, I will be back 😀

We phoned up for a takeaway using their website menu, being a middle aged man I had already worked out that it should come to approximately £65, but when I asked the lady I was shocked that the price was over £100!!! "Oh yes" I was told, "I've told the man to change the prices but he hasn't" so watch out, what is on their own website is not the price you will be paying!! Obviously I cancelled the order and went elsewhere, the prices are so high they even beat the cost of a Chinese meal in London and Surrey!!!

Went for dinner on a Sunday night and the Royal China was packed, luckily there was 1 table left for us (we hadn’t thought to book as it was a Sunday) The staff were lovely and attentive enough. The food was delicious, fresh and light and despite how busy they were we didn’t have a long wait. There’s a few posts that have mentioned price so for an idea for starters, mains (2 were King Prawn) and a couple of alcoholic drinks and a tip we spent £45 a head. We had a very enjoyable time.

Annual trip to this restaurant with family. Treated with respect and dignity, (Disabled). Service was fast and polite. Food was, as always on our many numerous visits was hot, tasty and plentiful. Fussy eaters in our group had NO complaints. Yes, a little expensive but on comparison with other restaurants. We will return.

I came here with a group of friends and i do come to royal china a lot i mean last 10 years or so but the food was great i mean better then great it was amazing but when i came this time it was unbareable i mean the food has more oil then the bottle of oil you can get in the shop it like you can pour it in a cup and fill it up. i do missed the food from here but not this type of food. this was the number one chinese resturant on the isle of wight without a dealt but the food i had today wasnt even close to the standard their once has. i had the the royal plater which was good never fail then had 1/2 ducks with is also good then when it came to the main. i have no words to say how oily and bad it was like it was planes saltless not even hot and the taste is way different then it used to be i order like the black bean chicken and it was just oily and plans the sweet and sour chicken was uneatable like the chicken was overcooked. the cripy beef was just horrible. the ginger and onion chicken was just plan no colour taste or anythning like the onion was over done. i dont know what has happen but i truely missed this place i wasnt bad when i went here around feb/march where that food went. i hope the chef come back or something happen.

i order an takeaway at this place and it was disappoint awfull disguesting plans. just awful i wouldnt come back here every again. i order 160 pound of food from here and it was just awful plane tasteless and horrible beliving they will close soon at this rate. i give some left over to my dog and he wouldnt even eat it he just smell and just walked away. nornally he well clear the plate and wanted more but this time it something. none the less i wouldnt recommend people to come back. the beef and black bean sauce was just plans. the chicken ball was good and all the fired stuff like chip was good but most the cooked stuff was just bad

we been here for a few times pass few months and the food was great sizzing smell and tasted great but on saturday night it was AWFULLLL!!!!! like they have change chef or something has happened to this place and the food was plan and no taste like they run out of season. sizzing had no smell good and tasted plans. the mix vegetable was so over cooked and it was like paste. i wouldnt come back after this experince for a long time. its also very expensive. we had a few sizzing dish but it was just a disapointment

Just got home with our takaway.. The meal was absolutely delicious... every dish has been eaten with nothing left.. Great sized portions enough for a plateful tomorrow.. comments from family like "the best Chinese I've ever had"... really says it all.. Very impressed.. and being greeted by the friendliest owners with the biggest smile completes the experience..

My wife and I visited this resturant last Wednesday evening, 13th September. We were politely greeted and left to decide our choice from the menu which had a superb choice of dishes. We chose a set menu for two people that was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked and presented. Additonally, presumably the owner and his young waitress and waiter were really friendly and helpful. Even to the extent of asking if we wished to have time before choosing any desert. My only disappointment is living on the mainland and not being able to revisit this brilliant restaurant again soon.

Great environment, great food. We have been going for more than 10 years, never disappointed. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for - so sit back and enjoy.

The food is good. Didn't get the main that I ordered, they bought me a chow mein, rather than crispy fried noodles, but nevertheless I ate it and it was good. We had to ask for the free prawn crackers, ask for sauce for spring rolls, ask for napkins and they plonk the wine on the table and expect you to pour it, so service is questionable. But we would revisit because the food was hot and tasted good.

Excellent Chinese food and always friendly staff to welcome you. Happy to return here every time we visit the island for our holidays wherever we stay on the IOW.

Just a quick note.. went the my wife for dinner, the service is attentive and friendly, welcomed at the door and shown to our table. The food arrived quickly after ordering – superb, tasty and hot. Kung Po king prawns amother the dishes consumed. The decor is a supprise with so many lanterns which just adds to the evening Nothing seemed too much- overall a delight and excellent experience. Would be happy to return here on our next visit to the Island.

We had dinner at the Royal China restaurant on three occasions during our short stay in Sandown. Each time we had different meals, all of which were good. One shortfall: we would like to have had a couple of scoops of ice cream to finish the meal, but this wasn't available.

Found this after the place we wanted to go to was closed. Such a great find amazing food and even better service will definitely return

Found this little gem of a Chinese restaurant Friday night The food was so tasty & plentiful nothing was touching for the staff & the decor was lovely very much in that Chinese theme we all expect & enjoy. The mains were very good too, hot, tasty and served in a timely fashion. Service was good, and social distancing observed. I had 3 courses, hubby had 4 because he had crispy duck also...we had wine , beer and a bill of £78. Very reasonable. We paid cash of £80 and they never came back with change, which I dont like. Had they bought our change back, we would have left a much larger tip.

Headed here for food last night. 5 of us. Sit at our table where we are squashed into the corner of this non social distance-esque restaurant.We inform the waiter of our orders and we advise that we would like the bill splitting so we can pay separately. We progress to note down our orders on a single page of the notepad.Astonishingly, we are then instructed to split the order into 5 seperate tickets by another waiter. On these tickets we are instructed to place our orders demonstrating open and close brackets around our selections. In addition to working out the price of how much each item was and providing working outs. Next time I come we will bring a calculator. Thoroughly understood why we were expected to do the working outs when the owner failed his own test in dividing 10 by 2. Food was OK though.
