I haven’t been to the pub for a while but I was so so pleased to see Chloe back working there what a difference of atmosphere she creates last time it was like a funeral parlour it’s such a shame they wasn’t as happy as her because the lady with dark shoulder length hair looks like she sucking a lemon and didn’t know how to make a hot chocolate 🙈 so Chloe made one for me All my 5 stars is for Chloe’s return not the food or the other staff members hopefully they can learn from Chloe and all her experience

Came for Steak Monday and the service I received from Ruby was great. She was very clued up on the deals and very efficient. Came to check on us to make sure everything was ok & everything was great. Will be back.

Had a great experience at The Rowing Machine at a friends birthday meal. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. The manager was incredibly helpful with our party of 14 ensuring the birthday girl had a great time. Thank you.

We stopped into our local for a catch up drink and to share a bowl of nachos. Nothing was to much bother as always, Kieron even got me some extra cheese when I was being picky! Amy was fantastic, smiley and happy to help in any way. Pints are clean and fresh can tell regular line cleaning happens here from someone who works in the industry. The food is always delicious pints amazing value and better than the more expensive pubs around, and any and Kieron are always a pleasure to be around. Will defiantly be back

Keiran made us very welcome, great food at a great price, decent selection of alcohol free beer, can't fault them. Came back a few days later for more. Cheapest quality place you could eat at in the area.

Always call in for a few drinks and all staff members are very friendly and have good banter. Cheap drinks and good atmosphere, everyone friendly

Great Sunday roast, added the Trio of Pigs in blankets, extra roasties and Yorkshire pudding, they wasn't needed with the large portion size anyway but a great added touch!

Visited early evening for some food, was advised to find a table and order at the bar or through the app when ready. Menu was great with a lot of choice & some great deals. Ordered swiftly and when the food arrived quickly it was piping hot and really enjoyable.

Outstanding atmosphere for the football. Other places have been charging to book a table; however at the rowing machine I was able to book online with ease. Was seated in the bar area and the atmosphere from everyone was fantastic! Will be booking next game for defo

Terrible food and service. To start with, I ordered a platter that came with nachos and salsa. I asked is the salsa could be changed for Nacho cheese sauce and was told no. I said I can't find anywhere I can buy it and they said no it only comes with certain meals so you can't buy it or swap it. The attitude was unfriendly. My partner ordered a medium rare steak on a full monty. The food arrived with burnt garlic bread, crunchy overcooked onion rings, brown old salad and the steak was well done with not even a hint of pink. I also noticed the nachos had no sauce. I asked where the salsa was? He said didn't they tell you at the till we don't have any? I said no and about the nacho cheese sauce request. He said he was listening to that. He did bring me out nacho cheese sauce that was lovely. My partner was supposed to have chicken breasts on his full monty that must have been substituted for a chicken Kebab skewer that he did not enjoy. No-one told us they didn't have any and asked him he would like it substituted with that chicken (he'd have said no). My chicken had horrible grissly bits in. For nearly £40, it was an expensive and unpleasant experience and we will not be visiting again. We drove nearly an hour to go there. There were also no ales on tap. The staff don't seem to care about their job. Other customers were complaining too. Oh and the table was so sticky and cutlery was dirty.

Lovely lunch at really good prices, friendly and very helpful staff. A great family friendly establishment with good kids choices. Also a good selection of vegetarian, vegan and special dietary requirements options. I do enjoy coming here. A great place to come with friends and family.

If you have not been here before don’t let the deco put you off. The place needs some TLC with the tables and the whole building seriously worn. However, that aside I had a very enjoyable breakfast as did my friend. There was no hot water as the machine had broken, these things happen, so no tea or coffee. The staff service was wonderful and the meal was great. I would attend again probably for a lunchtime meal.

Booked for a family birthday midweek. Staff were great and looked after us, bringing out the cake for the birthday girl at the end. Food was good and great value for money.

Nothing is perfect so 4 stars, but our experience on Wednesday 21st Feb was excellent. The staff were friendly, food very good, drinks the same and the prices were very acceptable.

We was deciding where to go for a family meal and on checking reviews decided to give this pub a try, we was not disappointed. We was welcomed by Kieron at the bar who showed us to our table and asked if we had any allergies and nothing seemed too much trouble. The food come out fast and was all hot and nothing was left on the plates and that has to be a first. We will definitely come back and make this a regular as it is very well priced and that’s what I like for a good night out.

This is good place to hang out in outside of the town of Witney and defo worth a visit in the summer. Love getting good customer service from our barmaid Kate!

Firstly i have to say my girlfriend and i have been frequenting the Hungry Horse on smiths estate in Witney Oxfordshire for the best part of 10 years,so it was with some regret that i felt the need to post this review,especially as i had to create a trip advisor account in order to write it! My girlfriend and i were unable to comit to a valentines meal on Wednesday due to work commitments,we chose the Hungry horse in Witney as our desire location,as mentioned,we have been using the Hungry Horse,AKA the rowing machine on smiths estate for the best part of 10 years,we actually lived on smiths estate for 10 years,we are very familiar with the place. Now living in a remote village near Woodstock we could have chosen any number of much closer establishments in which to eat,but we chose the Rowing Machine because in the 10 years we have been using it,we have NEVER had any reason to find complaint about anything,the food and service has always been very good. Tonight however we have both felt the need to leave this review,we actually downed our drinks and left due to the circumstances i'm about to reveal.... We arrived in time for our 5pm booking,a booth seat,the booth seat that 99% of the time has been our desired seating location(a woman thing!) A slight administrative balls up with the available meals on the menu was overcome very quickly,a simple oversight,no big deal. Ordered our food,very simple,we usually order the same thing! Halloumi sticks to start,we share them,my partner had her usual burger sizzler combo,i had my usual steak,8oz as unfortunately no 12oz steaks were available,again,no big deal,it happens. Food all arrived suitably quickly,within a time scale that you would expect,especially given that the place was pretty empty in the resuarant area,we have seen it MUCH busier. As usual the food was of very good quality ,served and presented well,and cooked as we had asked(medium rare on the steaks) We also had various rounds of drinks,i would say we spent about £60 give or take,very reasonable for two people,and it should be noted that the place always offers very good value for money. It was at this point the evening took a bit of a downward spiral... My girlfriend and i had finished our meal,and were enjoying a few more beverages,as you do...it's an early valentine meal...be a crime not to! A lady emerged from the kitchen carrying a 'sizzling skilet' meal,very similar to the one my girlfriend had ordered,it may even have been the same,we assumed that this was a member of staff and this was her 'staff meal' despite the fact we had not seen her working the entire evening? Anyway,she sat down directly behind us,my girlfriend said ' wow,that was sizzling,much more sizzling than how mine arrived' a completely innocent and without malice observation,it was then that two minutes after she had finished her meal and taken the plate into the kitchen that our 'downer on the evening occured' I very often,after i have finished my meal sit back in the booth and have a bit of a lounge,my leg will go up on the booth bench seat,at NO point is my foot actually on the booth seat,my ankle is on the edge,and my foot just drapes over the edge,i am a man of 50,i don't sit in eating establishments with my shoes on the seating! It was at this point the manager,well i assume it was the manager walks out of the kitchen and tells me to ' Get my feet off the booth seat'! Under normal circumstances i might have got into a debate about it,but given the significance of the evening,i actually found myself apologizing,even though my foot was nowhere near the seat! Now,i am of the FIRM belief that my girlfriends remarks were relayed to the kitchen who then made the point of coming out and asking me to remove my foot from the booth seat,not that it was actually on it It should also be observed that the place is obviously under 'new management' we are very familiar with the staff who have worked there over the years,my girlfriend is in fact good friends with many of them. Now it might be pure coincedence ,but this is the impression we arrived at,it's made all the more amusing ,and it is amusing, because the general cleanliness of the place leaves something to be desired,as mentioned the food is always VERY good,nobody reading this should arrive at the conclusion that the food is below par,it isnt,its very good,one of the reasons we return,so the management should be praised in this department. We lived on smiths estate in Witney for 10 years,Lancut Road if anyone is familiar with the area,so with respect,given the small percentage of what i call 'yob regulars' that frequent the establishment swearing and shouting ,as they were tonight,with small/young children within ear shot,with no warnings given to 'be more respectful' i find being asked to remove my foot from the booth a bit of a joke! The fact that there were tables uncleared,food on the floor,cobwebs in abundance,light fittings that were not clean,the mens toilets are never great,going back 10 years i would only have ever given the mens toilets 5/10 etc,i find the fact that i was asked to remove my foot from the booth seat the least of the managements worries! After this,we felt uncomfortable,literally downed our drinks ,and left. We would have stayed a little longer ,but didn't feel inclined to do so after this happened This is not to say we won't return,we almost certainly will,its great value for money,but on the back of this the management should certainly be addressing some of the points raised,if they had a swear box...they'd make a fortune! In closing we feel that we had our evening brought to a dispointing and premature end due to the 'general pettiness' of the certain members of staff. Please don't let this dissuade you from visiting the place,in 10 years this is the first time we have felt obliged to comment negatively,the food is always great! May be it was coincedence,but we certainly felt we read the situation perfectly. If,over the years i had been given £50 for everytime a remark in a restaurant had been overheard and taken badly i'd have had enough money to open my own!

Came in for a lovely roast dinner, food was delicious and staff where friendly and helpful great credit to green king.. would definitely recommend going there again

This place just keeps getting better every time I go in, staff are always very polite and hayley has been a great manager here, the place has definitely got a lot better since she has been here.

I went to the rowing machine with my kids and friends to have some lunch and it was lovely. The food was excellent and staff was helpful and friendly. We also had some of the delicious cakes that Tracy made for macmillan.
