Recent visit for a reunion using their function room. Welcoming and friendly staff. The buffet was varied, plentiful and tasty. Doggy bags offered to take home food if wanted. I would recommend and would be more than happy to return again.

Great food and atmosphere and very friendly service. Visited for the first time for a midweek meal with family. We were welcomed by smiling staff as soon as we entered. Menu was interesting and varied. Really impressed with food- everything we ordered was delicious and also good value. They had an array of games for the kids to play. Was a lovely evening spent with family. We only wish we didn’t have to drive here and had a pub like this in Cassington!

An entirely reasonable village pub. Prices were normal for the Oxfordshire countryside, the menu offered plenty of standard pub fayre, the staff were friendly, the beer was alright, and the food filling. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to specifically praise.

Limited veggie choice Poor meat selection. Tiny portions. I ordered falafel burger it came out as dry and tasteless as a piece of carboard! The side of sweetcorn I ordered was £8 !! And was just as disappointing as the main. It was smothered in a cold paste and tasted as if the whole thing had been microwaved. All food served on grubby wooden boards that harbours how many infections? They didn’t even look clean. To add insult to unjury when I asked for the bill they had AUTOMATICALLY ADDED 12.5 % GRATUITY !! They encourage a tab when eating and 12.5 % gets added on to food When I asked I was told that I never asked her to takes it off ?? Wait a minute I never asked her to put a tip on in the first place !! You never showed me the bill !! I was hay given a till receipt not the bill. If I want to tip I will tip on my terms and not theirs!! Definitely not worth a tip ! Very disappointed with the whole experience. Such a same as it used to be a lovely and friendly pub and had a great atmosphere but unfortunately it even lacked this so didn’t even compensate the rubbish food. Don’t eat there there’s lots of great places to eat near Eynsham.

Hideously expensive, bland, boring food, which are tiny portions! £15 for the smallest fish and chips you'll ever find. Bland, virtually tasteless, and the fish is the size of the palm of your hand. 3-4 "hand cut" chips. Basically half a potato cut into three sections. Beef burger was good, but at £16?! Crivens! Came with chips and onion rings. Have a guess, how many onion rings? TWO. JUST TWO, and they tasted of mass-produced pap. You'd think that the price on the menu is what you pay, but you'd be grossly mistaken. Never before have I experienced this, but they add on VAT onto the price. Wait, there's more! 12.5% SERVICE CHARGE AS WELL. WHAT FOR?! IN A PUB?! Personally, I've not experienced a service charge outside of London, and certainly not in a so-so pub. Needless to say, I asked them to remove it. An already expensive and grossly disappointing meal, made even more expensive by the VAT and Service Charge. £20 something extra! In some places, that's a meal for two in itself! Definitely not going to visit this place again. Ever. Such a shame I have to pass by daily and remember such a god awful meal which cost me such a lot of money. Good decor, not bad drinks I imagine, but for the love of everything, don't bother eating there. I wish I took photos to display the disappointing portions. If only I could also somehow convey the lack of taste also. I'm not sure if I am more so disappointed or angry at myself for bothering.

I was one of a group of sixteen walkers who had booked in for lunch. We had all pre-ordered our food for 1230 and were all sitting at table by that time. The food didn’t start arriving until about one o’clock. Many of us commented that our food was only lukewarm and the quantities were small. I had the lentil-stuffed aubergine, which was very tasty, but it was just one half of a vegetable; it was tepid and it cost £14! I was also charged over £9 for four drinks: an alcohol-free beer; a tonic water; an orange juice and a glass of soda water. None of the staff had bothered to check that we were all present and two of our number were left without food. When this was pointed out, an apology of sorts was issued (‘‘The chef didn’t see those orders on the list’’!) and one of these two unfortunates eventually received his order. The other one did not — at least not until we were paying up and leaving, at which point a small brown bag was plonked on the counter, apparently containing a portion of the stuffed aubergine, which presumably by then was stone cold… Quite how this was expected to be consumed whilst we were out hiking was never explained. Nor, it must be said, were the staff in any way concerned at this shocking lack of service. Perhaps such failings are commonplace in this rather awful establishment. The two late-coming meals were not charged for, but this was scant compensation for such a dereliction of duty

Thursday night in this fairly quiet village/town near Oxford, after a long drive and setting up my bookstand at the Overland Event I really needed some food. First two places luckily were not doing any so I ended up in The Red Lion. Now I am a traveller who writes about Iberia where food is top quality without costing the earth. The Flat-iron steak was cooked to my rare perfection, on a big bed of rocket salad sprinkled with parmesan and a little garnish of pan-fried vine tomatoes, with a glass of tempranillo it hit the spot and a great price. Tonight I went back and the two fish pan with salmon and mussels on potatoes and salad and again had a beautiful, tasty meal that was well presented and very good value. Compliments to the chef and the service... I might have to go back on my last night here tomorrow!

We visited here while staying locally overnight en route to our holiday. We sat in the garden and had one of the best fish and chips ever! (And we live near Whitby, so we know what we’re talking about)! Two of us had the Scottish haddock which was white, flaky and coated in the crispest batter, accompanied by possibly the most delicious chips I’ve ever had in my life. One of us had a fish pan with bream and sea trout with rice. This was apparently superb. The other had the asparagus and mushroom pie. All 4 plates were absolutely delicious. Living just a mile away in the village of Cassington I often use the excellent range of shops and take a aways in Eynsham, sad to say I have only just discovered that The Red Lion was taken over a year ago, I knew it had been refurbished but was not aware of the changes. Deciding that we would like to stay local-ish I went on Trip advisor to check out a few pubs and was amazed to see the transformation of the Red Lion, its website and menus. My daughter (London Based) booked it for Father's Day yesterday, unfortunately she was running late (as usual) due to the traffic, however we were warmly greeted by Tommy the manager on our arrival who advised us it was not a problem. An excellent selection of cask ales always makes me happy especially when they are well kept and a super range of Gins made' London girl' smile. Service from Jake (first day) was very good and the lovely Kiwi girl (sorry didn't get your name) was super. Homemade soup to start, followed by an excellent roast and a really nice touch... free pudding for Dad's as it was Father's Day. All washed down with a very palatable, sensibly priced Malbec. The waiter just said “I will let the chef know” several times. Another time, we were made to feel very uncomfortable for having booked a table at 2.30 on a Sunday and not wanting to eat a whole Sunday roast, but rather pudding and coffees, we were told we were taking up a table which could have been used for people having a full lunch!! Eventually they let us stay, but it was a shoddy way to behave especially as my friend is a regular. It ruined our afternoon.

An absolutely delicious Sunday roast in relaxed surroundings with friendly staff and good ale. I'm a vegetarian and the choice for me was better than most pub roasts. I had the Vegetarian Wellington which was lovely and they had another veggie main that wasn't part of the roast dinner. My partner is a true carnivore with high standards and he said the corn-fed chicken was second to none. The accompaniments were cooked well too; no soggy vegetables, thank goodness. The pub was busy but this just gave a nice atmosphere rather than a hurried or delayed experience as a customer. All good - we come here often for dinner or drinks but we will be coming for a roast dinner again very soon.

Set right in the heart of the attractive village of Eynsham, the Red Lion is under the same management as the Jolly Postboys in East Oxford and has been extensively refurbished. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, perhaps too much so for my liking, insisting on taking food and drink order at the table rather that at the bar. Only two ales were on offer at the time of my visit - Abingdon Bridge and Purity Gold - although there were more vacant handpumps available. The décor is contemporary, as is the menu, from which I opted for the Red Lion Burger and a very good burger it was, but £14 ?? It wasn't THAT good. Also, annoyingly, it came served on a wooden board, with the chips served in a separate high sided dish, with the accompanying salad in yet another bowl. What's wrong with a straightforward china plate? It seems to me they are trying a bit too hard here, and only partially succeeding. They really could do with focusing more on realistic pricing and being a traditional village pub.

Called in after a long hot day of sightseeing at Bleinham and were not disappointed. Good sized car park which is a massive bonus in this area. Friendly staff who found us a table for a late Sunday lunch with no problem at all. Food was good and reasonably priced and the atmosphere was friendly with families and couples mixed. Will definitely visit again when we are next in the area.

Went to try the food at our 'new' local pub on a sunny summer evening. we were left waiting, standing, for ten minutes with promise of a menu, by a rather off-hand bar-staff... then told we couldn't eat outside, even if we only ordered chips... then we were left to wait again whilst they fetched another staff member... gave up after five minutes and left! Perhaps they were having an 'off' day.

Possibly the best chips I have ever eaten. Very attractive decor and attentive service along with great cooking made this a special evening for an anniversary meal. Interesting menu with good selection of specials and decently priced wines. Lucky old Eynsham.

My wife and I visited the Red Lion for the first time since the re-opening. We received a wonderful greeting from Tommy and Laura behind the bar on arrival which immediately made us feel at home. The menu is perfectly sized and we chose the vegetarian option for my wife which was a perfectly cooked mushroom and pesto pappardelle pasta and I had the steak espitada, which was a hanging skewer of steak, shallots and peppers dripping in a wonderful south african BBQ sauce. Both dishes were fantastic, as were the accompanying pint of Purity Blond and a glass on NZ Sauvignon Blanc.

We had a wonderful evening at The Red Lion for my partners 50th Birthday. Tom & all the staff were fantastic from the stage of organising up to the evening itself. Nothing was too much trouble. They have a fab huge garden & put on an outside bar which worked great. Everyone had a fantastic evening. Would highly recommend. We will definately be back to try out their impressive menu.

We had been meaning to come here as soon as we heard from Drew and George at the Jolly Postboys that they were transforming this old pub.We had an excellent lunch in the beer garden, and the manager Tommy explained the concept and work still to be done.

Had lunch there recently. They have really managed to turn this place around and Gordon them for doing it. It is in a great location on the village square and has benefitted from sensitive and thoughtful redecoration. The drinks are good and the beer is kept well. The staff are generally polite and friendly.

Eynsham has needed a place like this for years - a friendly, consistently good pub right the heart of the village.

Tried to watch the football here last weekend . Busy ish with people surrounding a smallish screen . There would have been a massive crowd if they had planned it a bit more !

I understand that this pub was refurbed only a couple of weeks ago and before that was not a place I would have walked into! Having glanced at the other pubs in town, of which there are a few, unusual they havent been turned into Indian restaurants so the local drinking trade is clearly thriving...it looks like Eynsham was in desperate need of attracting a different type of local and tourists from farther afield. Well, these owners have achieved the first part and I really want to help them get known.

Nicely redecorated, with friendly helpful staff. Good short menu, with added benefit yesterday of half a Lobster Thermidor at the reasonable price of £17.50. Nice beer and wine - we shall definitely return soon. Only suggestion is that three puddings is a bit limiting. Wonderful to have a proper restaurant in Eynsham at last.

We took the kids to the newly refurbished Red Lion last week for dinner. It looked fantastic inside with the new decor and there was a really nice vibe in the restaurant and outside. We were welcomed by the Bar Manager Tom who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He chatted in depth through the menu and recommended a lovely beer for me. Considering they have only just reopened, they were incredibly organised and professional. The meals we chose were absolutely fantastic and well sized portions. Whoever their chef is, they want to keep him there for a long time!! The kids chose from the main menu and the portions were adapted size wise for children and half price too, which was very impressive. We were served at our table by a very friendly young lady from New Zealand who was very helpful. I had not been in the Red Lion for many years, but decided to visit due to a lot of positive talk about the new look, the food and the staff. It certainly ticked all of those boxes and with a team like they have in place, their reputation is only going to grow and grow, very quickly! Get over to the Red Lion, either for food or some great beers.
