I visited this restaurant and was overcharged. I’ve since been told by several people that they have a reputation for it. They tried me out,?didn’t get away with it as I wrote down the prices as I went along and presented them with it at the till. I had a jacket potato with one filling but they tried to charge me for two. I refused to pay it and I didn’t leave a tip. If you don’t mind being ripped off, do visit as the food is pretty good. If however you prefer dealing with an honest business, go elsewhere. I wouldn’t go back. Being ripped off isn’t my style.

VERY OVER PRICED. FOOD INCREDIBLY POOR. THIS RESTAURANT HAS A TERRIBLE REPUTATION FOR OVER CHARGING CUSTOMERS.

I am lucky enough to live across the road from this great restaurant. I visit it at least once a week, if not more! There is a really good selection of food and it is all very tasty. They do some lovely fresh pressed juices and smoothies too. The service is very good and friendly and this place is a real hub of the community and the owners genuinely care about their customers. Another thing that makes this place even better is that they have recently started serving some great cocktails!! If you live locally or are in the area, this place is well worth a visit.

My first visit since the refurbishment undertaken during lockdown. Nice decor and a slightly extended menu but still the same high quality food and service. We enjoyed all our dishes - excellent poached eggs, shepherd's pie and salad. Also lovely juice and coffees. A warm welcome back to the High Street!

popped in for a quick snack... i was pleasantly surprised and the huge choice of the menu... I chose a fresh juice which i saw was freshly pressed on my order... I then had a flat white and wow it was the best coffee i have had in a very long time and i am extremely fussy about my coffee... I also ordered the vegan breakfast and it was really lovely. The staff were fantastic in recommendations and the place was so clean. Rowans Kitchen keep up the good work I have just moved into Chigwell and ill definitely be back!

i went to the leisure centre across the road and asked where they would recommend for a quick bite... the two guys in the office said get to Rowans across the road and ask for a Fully Loaded Salt beef Bagel... all i can say is WOW. The bagel was loaded full of Salt Beef no scrimping here... the quality was top class and was definitely cooked fresh on site. Its on a par with brick lane and im an extremely fussy customer! It came with a side of chips and coleslaw and was only £7.95 for a huge portion of food! I went back to tell the guys at the gym a big thank you for the recommendation and ill definitely be here every Wednesday after my workout. The Restaurant is so clean and attention to detail was noticeable. Great service, great food very clean. Thumbs up ill be back!

Visited this establishment for a salt beef sandwich. Asked for a sample of the salt beef which was offered very politely and without hesitation. Excellent ( no doubt included in the final bill ) Sandwich arrived with a thin slice of salt beef which was obviously not pickled or cooked on site. The beef was a compressed piece which obviously was done in an industrial environment as it was uniform in texture and its cut. Not what one gets at a salt beef bar. The Rye bread also was from a pre-sliced loaf and was limp due to its thin cut. We were told it came with salad; I have always considered a salad to be more than one slice of tomato and cucumber with a smattering of lettuce with 5 small slices of gherkin. The coffee and tea were excellent, the toilets very clean as was the restaurant. The staff excellent hosts and good service. I must point out that the salt beef was not their main food on offer as it was a Turkish establishment. For what it was, they charged restaurant price for a cafe snack.

4 of us visited this restaurant yesterday which was a Saturday it was extremely busy on arrival and we waited at the breakfast bar for a couple of minutes before we had a table prepared for us. The waiter greeted us and he was extremely professional and polite. Once we ordered the food was outstanding. I had smashed avocado smoked salmon and poached eggs. I will definitely return and try out the huge variety on the menu. One of my friends were vegan and they had many options for her. Another of my friends is a huge meat eater and she had the salt beef sandwich. They have two sizes here small and a large and he was recommended to go for the large option as apparently the smaller one is a cheaper but basic amount of meat. Wow !!! when it arrived we was blown away by how much meat was in it... it was huge such a generous portion and it was accompanied by chips and coleslaw! He never managed to finish it but took some home in a doggy bag😂. It was a huge restaurant and goes all the way around the bag with sofas there and amazing for mums with young children and larger families. Rowans we will be back!

Went in to get a snack and was tempted by the salt beef sandwich. I ordered 2 and wss quite shocked at the price but thought its ok vecause they are going to be lovely. What a disapointment. Really limp thin sliced bread with a tiny slice of salt beef in each sandwich. Certainly not worth over £11 for 2!!! Looked ni e dnough in the cafe but think they should load up tge sandwiches a bit more. It wasnt anywhere near as good as brick lane .

First time at Rowans. Heard positive things and recommendations by many friends so headed down for Saturday brunch. We weren’t disappointed, the food was amazing and the service exceptional. There was a family feel to the place with the manager taking time to sit and chat with his regulars. Wide range of fresh food on the menu, my boyfriend had the chicken and steak club sandwich which came with a generous portion of chips and I went for one of the special offers from the board. Very impressed, Saturday brunches at Rowans will be a regular event for us!!!

i was with my family of 8 and we hadn't booked we hoped for space on arrival. It was a Sunday afternoon and Rowans Kitchen was full. There wasnt a space available however the very friendly staff arranged a new table within minutes. We were impressed with that but the food was another level. This is a brilliant establishment and the food was fresh and everything was made to order. The seabass fillet special was what i would expect at a fine dining restaurant and the fresh juices were beautiful. Please try the POPEYE juice! The burgers that many of my family tries were all handmade burgers and the espresso was of a top level. We have reserved our table for the following sunday. 5 out of 5.

I went into Rowans a few weeks ago and tried their large Salt beef sandwich, which was very good and good value for money. The bill, with a nice cup of tea came to about £9 if i remember correctly. The Salt beef was very nice not too dry and it came with a decent small side salad and coleslaw, which was also nice. I went back with my girlfriend about a week later and had the same, my girlfriend also had the smaller Salt beef sandwich. I have to say the Salt beef on this occasion was not as nice, not bad but not as fresh as the previous week. I popped in yesterday as i was in Barkingside again this time to try the breakfast, which consisted of a sausage, fried egg bacon, 1 slice of white toast, hash browns and grilled tomatoes. I have to say i was very disappointed with this, the Sausage was just like the ones i remember back in the old days, squidgy and fatty in that old familiar brown tough skin. The fried egg was very greasy as was the bacon, but worst of all was the tomatoes that were just so past there sell by date that they were just mush on the plate. With two cups of white coffee (that were very nice) I felt rather let down. I am quite happy to pay a tenner or more for a good quality breakfast but this was a throw back to the old days in a builders cafe, i really thought i had seen the last of those cheap nasty sausages.

Unpretentious, good range of wholesome foods rendering good value. Three of us provided a range of diets to test anyone but Rowans coped superbly.

I don’t know how many times I have looked to eat in my local pub only to be told the kitchen is closed. Every time I come in here - “sorry the kitchen is closed”. Its Friday night and there is at least 4 different parties in here looking at the menu - all being told the same thing - Sorry no food!?!? It’s a great pub and some of the staff are brilliant, but they are being let down by the management and the kitchen staff (if there are any?!?) The only time I did get to eat was because one of the bar staff took pity and went into the kitchen to cook it herself. The owners are missing a trick - losing so much money by not providing food. It’s also false advertising as the signs say kitchen open 10am until 9pm every day.. I was excited when The Chequers went under its latest refurb and was hoping it was going to provide the area with a much needed decent pub, with decent pub grub - but sadly it’s failed?!?!!

My husband and I had a brunch at this lovely Restaurant with good family vibe. We got seated promptly and Staff was very attentive and welcoming. French toast was very tasty, however Shakshuka was rather bland but sucuk was good. Portion size was generous. Overall Good Choice for brunch.Would recommend coming here. Halal Options Available!
