Route Broadway Market in Hackney

I come here for my morning tea’s and a croissant (currently working locally). The gentleman behind the counter (I’m assuming who is the owner) is very polite and greets everyone, whether they are a regular or not. On my first visit, a homeless man came and asked if he could get something to eat. To his surprise, the gentleman gave him something to eat out of good will. I’m not saying it’s a service they provide, but it was very nice to see people like that are still around. They treat everyone with the upmost respect.

Gorge cafe! I work nearby and the staff here especially Ely make the days sunny. The vegan chocolate cake is insanely good. Thanks team.

Great cafe-style eatery with a very chill atmosphere. Route offers a menu with a health-centric POV, including many plant based options. This restaurant makes for an ideal relaxed bite to eat while catching up with a friend or even to simply have a coffee and pastry.

I come here all the time for my morning coffee, brewed superbly by Eli, and the delicious vegan chocolate cake(it’s got beetroot and avocado in it, so I’ve renamed it ‘vegetable cake as it’s got 2 of your 5 per day)🤗The salads are always really fresh and tasty, and they seasonally change them. Service is spot on, and it’s always a lovely friendly atmosphere. Sitting outside and watching the world go by in this cafe is always fascinating as it’s a vibrant market street. I can definitely recommend it!

Dog friendly, great vegan options, tasty food and reasonable prices. The hearty 'vegan hangover' set us up for the day before going to a day festival at Victoria Park. You can't make a reservation but our party of 4 +dog were seated easily at 11.30 on a busy Saturday morning.

Paid £16 for a takeaway salad box with salmon on top. The good, salmon was nice, the bad, everything else. Felt super uncomfortable after purchasing as we literally couldn’t eat it so debated whether going back or finishing, tried once more to finish and actually couldn’t. Went back and asked for a refund but was told by a not very helpful member of staff they won’t refund but I could have more salad… great. Anywho, overprice food that stinks. Would not recommend to anyone

I visited Route cafe on Broadway Market around 3 PM on a busy Saturday afternoon. While the market outside was bustling with people, inside Route was calm and quiet—a nice escape from the crowd. I needed a place to work on my laptop while waiting for a friend, so I asked if it was okay to stay for a few hours. The staff were very accommodating, and a friendly girl immediately said it was no problem. The cafe was about 30-40% full, allowing me to choose my own table. I picked a spot at the back with a skylight that let in some pleasant natural light. I ordered a Turmeric latte, which cost £4.73. Although a bit expensive, it seemed reasonable for the location. The latte was delicious, slightly on the sweet side but very tasty. The service was great, and the waitress was super sweet and helpful. Overall, Route cafe offered a quiet and comfortable environment with good service and tasty drinks. It’s a great place to relax or get some work done, and I’m planning to make it a regular stop.

Food was unsatisfactory. Bread tasted stale. Avocado smash looked and tasted puréed. We couldn’t finish the beetroot Benedict because of the taste. Coffee was decent. Nice location on the market.

The food at this restaurant is incredible, and the service is just as outstanding. I went with my best friend and my son today, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at ease, especially my son.

Best English breakfast in the area

A very solid staple for a good brunch or lunch. The coffees are good and the staff are lovely, food is pretty amazing too. I would recommend the pancakes for something sweet, and their salads win for lunch. Good atmosphere and reasonably priced for London. Able to accommodate larger groups too which is a hard find for brunch in East.

8 pounds for a tiny spinach filo pie is so extravagant. We needed to salt it bc it had no taste. Really don’t recommend!

Good café, open from morning to late afternoon. Good place for coffee right on Broadway Market. Excellent range of products including cakes and bakes. Lunch was good. Staff pleasant and helpful. Gets busy.

Wanted take away cup to have half coffee in and half out, but they said that can’t serve take away cup inside even I was okay to pay service charge. Was mistake to go there, if you want good service would not recommend the place.

My favourite place in Broadway Market! I always come here for breakfast and the service is absolutely spot on, the food is incredibly tasty and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I often come with my dogs and they are also treated like kings. I can’t stress enough how friendly the staff is, and if you want a recommendation try their vegan on toast- it’s just amazing!

Decent deli/bar on Broadway Market. Surprisingly busy on a week day during lunch - reasonable prices for the healthy and tasty dishes we ordered. A little bit annoyed when table sitting next to us had a considerable bigger portion of the sweet potato salad though…beers. Pleasant staff. Great place to drink and watch the market.

Nice little cafe in Broadway Market. We stopped for coffee and cake. The cake although expensive wasn't very nice though and tasted as though it was made with oil not butter or margarine. Lovely staff and very attentive.

Never had food there, so I can't tell about that experience. My bad experience was in another way: I've reserved a bag in too good to go and they cancelled 3 minutes before pick up time. I walked a long time to get there and would appreciate if they cancel at least 20 minutes before. The person that told me they cancel at 21:10 (30 minutes before I arrived), but that was a lie. I understand that this things happen, and I would understand the problem if I received some honesty.

I was genuinely surprised by the portion sizes here! Very generous and they're always really flavourful, despite being quite affordable. I've been here 4-5 times and I've always eaten really well, the salads are fresh and the mains are delicious. The location is also really cute and cozy, definitely the best brunch spot in Broadway Market - to me.

We booked. Got a text confirming our booking and an email. Turned up at 5.30pm (the time of our booking) and were told you were closing. No real apology from the staff. I guess its not the staffs fault as they've probably had a long day but it was really dissapointing. My mum got the train from Chingford specially to meet us for dinner. 👎

We had cakes and coffee and they were both very nice and tasty! Good selection of vegan cakes (I recommend the avocado, chocolate and beetroot cake: it sounds daunting, but it’s delicious!

Nice cafe but there's definitely nicer ones around. It felt chaotic to be there, even on a Tuesday 12pm. Also, they charge extra for non-dairy milks in coffee (instead of evening out costs between milk and non-dairy).

I go back again and again for “the hangover” - it’s like a crossover between shakshuka and breakfast burrito - it’s amazing

Amazing food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. The Hangover is an excellent combination of scrambled egg and shakshouka, and the Mediterranean breakfast a lovely taster platter through a lot of options. The pancakes with berries and pistachio cream are incredibly good. Round it off with a nice fresh ginger lemon tea or decent coffee. Only thing, if I really look for things to improve, is that some guests leave the door open and it doesn't fall shut by itself.

Incredible food, lovely staff, very busy but a few spare tables at the back so we managed to squeeze in. A good choice of brunch and lunches, include an array of fresh salads. A real gem.

Great little dog friendly spot on Broadway Market. They even have dog treats! Staff are super friendly and the food is great. At lunch you can choose one main and two salads for 13.95. Highly recommend the pulled lamb!

Amazing coffee and the dishes we tried from the brunch menu were soooo good! Everything was so tasty, low volume music was playing and the personnel was polite and professional. But, it’s freezing outside, it’s only 3 degrees, what’s up with constantly leaving the door open??? Please please please, change the thingy that automatically closes the door!

Some tasty pancakes, poached eggs and ‘the hangover’ served for breakfast at with a friend. Both were flavoursome. Was expecting a bit more Middle Eastern flare to the pancakes, the flavour was subtle. The chocolate, beetroot & avocado cake was very good, great balance of flavour without being too sweet or heavy. Coffee was decent. Portion was fair and service efficient if not overtly friendly. Missed a star as I don’t like the trend of only accepting electronic payments.

Stumbled upon this place. We all had amazing food. The sweet foods were stunning and delicious and the savoury foods looked incredible. I had amazing french toast. The drinks were also fresh and delicious. Service was very quick. BEST BACON I'VE EVER EVER HAD.

Pros: I decided to treat myself and ordered a slice of cake and coffee. The cake was very flavoursome and the coffee was really well made. I enjoyed it very much. The interior design is modern, with a Mediterranean twist- that's why it deserves the 3 star rating. Cons: Now, after reading the Google reviews that mentioned 'friendly' staff I was expecting better customer service. The waitress who served me spilled my coffee on the saucer, I still thanked her politely and she completely ignored the fact that she had spilled my coffee and walked off without an apology- and with somewhat bad attitude. I found this to be unprofessional. I cleaned it up myself using a tissue. I could have been a regular customer, but I would not be going back.

We went for the 5 plate deal. The squid & sweet potato dishes were excellent. The prawn and babaganoush were ok. The ceviche we sent back because it was way to over ‘cooked’.

The food is healthy and delicious and a very nice presentation too. Service was very good. Definitely coming back again!

Really nice salads, and great lunch meals combining a main course (lamb, chicken, salmon, ...) with a choice of 2 or 3 salads. Generous portions, nourishing and healthy without being 'health food'. Also good for coffee, cake, and great breakfasts too.

The food is photogenic. The window display tempted me. I like tasty salads and dressings but these weren't as I'd anticipated. The food looks very good. I enjoyed the fritata and red quinoa salad.

Great food, lovely service and a wonderful location

They add 18% service charge on top of your bill, when the menu says 12.5%. They also don’t show this percentage explicitly on the bill, they just add a value, so be careful when paying. Reading reviews here, I now see they’ve been doing this for a while…. Other than that, the food was great. Really good variety of salads to choose from. Would give more stars if reviewing the food only.

Too busy, they need another window if they are going to do takeaway service too. Had us standing in the doorway getting in the way. Awkward and uncomfortable: poor set up, cluttered and cramped space and mediocre coffee.

Mmm gluten free cake. Staff were helpful with opening the folding door wider to allow mu wheelchair in, even though it meant grabbing a screwdriver.

Big plates of tasty, healthy salads were enjoyed here for a tenner each which was good value for a big plateful. I had stuffed aubergine, cauliflower and barley salad which Otto Lenghi would have been proud of. The staff were friendly, we weren’t rushed and the coffee was excellent. The middle eastern style all day breakfast/brunch looked very good too.

I’ve had coffee and pastry here before and thought I would try a breakfast. Super disappointing experience, I had to explain what toast, beans and bacon were and then got a bacon sandwich with a side of homemade beans. I thought the bread was not great , the bacon was super fatty and the beans were quite unpleasant. Won’t be going back.

Staff are genuinely friendly, receptive and I enjoyed the afternoon here whilst working. Compliments to the chef (who is Turkish) quickly serving up this classic Çilbir (Turkish bagel) with poached eggs and garlic yogurt topped with aromatic melted paprika butter and Aleppo topping - to be savoured! The interiors and seating are so clean! Wifi is top speed considering the internet gulf of Hackney!

I love cafe route. The food portions are great and delicious at a very reasonable price. It's my favourite brunch spot in London.
