We went here for breakfast at about 10 in the morning. The cafe had no heating on therefore it was quite cold. We wanted the oak cake full breakfast but they had no oatcakes. Therefore we ordered two English breakfasts the portion sizes are very small almost minimalistic for £6.70 each this was overpriced. Drinks were not included with the breakfast so there was then an additional £1.70 for a mug of tea! We asked for a filter coffee but they had none. Overall £17.60 for two people. I will come to Hayfield again but would not come to Rosie Lees again. It’s overpriced for what you get.

We came in for breakfast, they took an hour to bother to come take an order, by that time breakfast was finished, and they said they wouldn’t serve us any breakfast….also found hairs in our drinks… Staff are obviously not trained for a breakfast service. They were swearing to each other. Looks like they have fine straight from the job centre. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this place. We definitely won’t come back and will ensure non of friends and family do either.

I popped in here with some friends on the off chance that there might be something gluten free that I could eat. The moment I mentioned that I was coeliac - all of the staff could not do enough to make me feel like I was eating safely. The owner and the chef both came out to chat with me and I settled on a bacon and egg sandwich. There were lots of Gluten Free options to choose from. I knew I was on to a winner when our server told me that they hadn’t used the kitchen butter incase of cross contamination and they provided me with pre packed pats of butter. The food was very tasty, as was the choices made by my non - coeliac friends. All my food was prepared separately and safely and I had no coeliac reactions in the days that followed. What a fabulous place - I highly recommend it.

Went to Rosie's on a Sunday afternoon. It was very busy with a lot of cyclists outside waiting for tea and cake. We ordered a tea and coffee to go and two ice creams. Then we waited. And waited. I was expecting it to be a bit slow as it was so busy - but since we weren't ordering food that required preparing and were taking away I didn't think i would be that long. In the end we waited 20 minutes! The ice cream was obviously very old and pretty crystalised - ended up throwing it away unfinished. The tea was pretty bog standard. I would perhaps visit again and eat in, as the cake selection looked really good. But to be honest, the long wait time has really put me off. No real apology from the servers either, or a warning in the first place that it would be so long.

We arrived about mid day, the cafe was half full. We ordered a light lunch and coffee which arrived in a reasonable time and the lunch was fine. As we were about half way through the meal some other guests came in who I presume were friends of the owner because we were soon asked by the owner to vacate our seats and move to an adjacent table so the new diners could sit where we had been sitting. We had not sat on reserved tables and I don't even know if you can make reservations at this establishment. This action may have been understandable if we had finished our meals and were just sitting there taking up a space but we were still actually eating and drinking our coffees. Bazil Faulty and Faulty Towers come to mind. My message is, if you are not a friend of the owner you could have a disturbed meal.

The atmosphere is always pleasant and busy, they will give you a wifi code if you ask for it. I have visited this café a number of times and have always been slightly disappointed. The service is quick and functional but lacks the friendly manner I would expect from such a café. I am not into big slabs of toast and found it slightly too salty for my taste and the cakes lack imagination. The coffee is definitely not the best and way too bitter for me and lacking in depth. However, well worth a stop if you are in Hayfield but leave your dog outside on the designated ring. It is not dog friendly.

Rosie's has great food and a terrific atmosphere, helped in no small way by the friendliness of the staff and owners. As a local who has been a customer almost as long as Trevor W, I can only wonder if we are reviewing the same place? If the place was so unfriendly, would there be queues at the door most weekends where latecomers hang around outside wistfully hoping for a table when they could easily go to another café. Would there be people choosing to sit outside in all weathers preferring to be at Rosie's rather than go somewhere else? Deirdre and Andrew and their staff are always friendly and say hello even when they are rushed off their feet. This place is amazing, after a nice walk down the sett valley trail we always go to Rosie's because it's the nicest place around, it's small but beautiful and the food is delicious, the home made cakes are to die for. It's not expensive or pretentious it's just good quality food and drinks set in lovely hayfield. Keep up the good work see you next week.

What can I say? We travel nearly 30 miles to sample the food at Rosie's. They make the best sandwiches, the best soup and the best coffee (not forgetting the cakes, although we generally don't have enough room for cake!). Our only dread is that we get there and it's full (and I suppose putting a good review on doesn't help)!! The staff are great and there is always a good atmosphere in the place and it's so reasonable. Can't wait to go again!

We visited Rosie's this afternoon, what a find! There was a large selection of mouth-watering cakes, the scones looked delicious too. There were several locals in the tea room, always a good sign, some had come especially for the home made soup which they highly reccommended. After a very difficult choice, we went for the tea and carrot cake, which was superb. Hope to return soon, although I think a long walk first would be advisable!

Delicious sandwiches, cream tea & carrot cake!My son and daughter-in-law took me to Rosie's first thing when I arrived on my first visit to England, as it is one of their favorite places. I returned for Christmas with other family members and we rented a place nearby, looking forward to walking to Rosie's for breakfast or lunch. Rosie closed during that week for a well-deserved holiday, but our family was sad to miss her good food!

I visit Rosie's quite often with friends or family, because their homemade soup is just fantastic! Even the celery soup is delicious, and I normally hate celery!! The gluten-free orange cake is also to die for. The cafe setting can be a little cramped and isn't always entirely comfortable, but otherwise I love it.

Me and my wife popped in here for coffee and cake after a walk to Hayfield from nearby Birch Vale. We ended up having sandwich and soup and cake and coffee. The place is very nice and quaint with art work (for sale) on the walls. The staff were very nice and chatty; something i sometimes find missing now days. The food was really nice and we had a good slice of carrot cake making it great value for money. We will be visiting again soon.

First time I visited I was not impressed with the chaps attitude... very miserable. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and visited a couple of months later to be served my an equally miserable young lady. Service leaves a lot to be desired. Food was average but the scones and tea were delicious. When returning from a hike its wonderful to have a cafe to drop in and have a well earned treat but to be honest the service has put me off returning. Cheer up guys!

We found Rosie's Tea Room on our first visit to Hayfield. We just went for coffee and cakes in the afternoon, but having looked at the menu, we will return for the very interesting sandwiches which were on offer. The breakfast too was tempting and we also found the prices very reasonable. Must say that the home-made cakes were fantastic, as light as a feather. The young staff were friendly and efficient. Can't wait to return.
