Rose n Bowl in Rossendale

Second visit this year on our annual coach trip bowlers' outing to make up for missing last year's visit due to the Thing. As always an excellent breakfast starts off the day before the bowling competition begins on the well maintained bowling green. A good selection of ales keeps the thirst at bay during the day and then, at competition end, it's time for the carvery that knocks all other carveries into a cocked hat, followed by a wonderful selection of desserts. We've been visiting for years and 2022 is now in the diary, as always we can't wait. If you've never visited before, call in soon, it's well worth it.

It never fails to amaze me, the quality of the roast meats.I live almost next door to a carvery in Blackpool (I won't embarras them by naming them), why then do I travel nearly 50 miles to the Rose n Bowl?Because it is the best carvery & well worth the visit.Everything is fresh & of the best quality & the portions very generous. If you have room left after the main course then the desserts are to die for.Staff are very pleasant & the service prompt.Forget these ' chain store' carveries with tempting ' 2 for the price of 1' offers or the one that is named after an ugly jug; they are rubbish compared to the Rose n Bowl.Well worth the visit, even if it involves a round trip of nearly a 100 miles.

Fantastic meal, staff & atmosphere.A lovely family visit for our Auntie’s 100th Birthday.We were made to feel very welcome & looked after, especially in these strange Covid times.Our Auntie felt safe, spoilt & very relaxed after many months of not dining out.The food was delicious, most of our party had the famous carvery which they thoroughly enjoyed. What do I say John the chef and his team are keeping the Valley well fed and of quality and price . The Yorkshire puddings are amazing, the turkey moist the beef tender , good selection starters , and for better appetite the desert menue vast , don't do deserts but you won't be disappointed. The range of beers is very good and real ales . And if its a wedding anniversary or funeral don't go any place else you can't beat this . Heard gravy good if you like to wrestle in it I stick to pouring on my beef . Its number one place to go if your hungry and fancy some one else cooking .

We are repeat customers of the Rose n Bowl and for good reasons. We have been with our special needs foster child who was non verbal autistic and they bent over backwards to help us support him. Our other children have multiple food allergies and they are so inclusive, thoughtful and go the extra mile to make sure everyone is catered for. They will make gluten free gravy and Yorkshire puddings and offer gf cakes, they offer vegan puddings and meal choices, dairy free options...you name it. All without making you feel like you are a difficult customer (which I know we are really). They are the loveliest couple you could ever meet and their staff are well trained and lovely too.I absolutely can't fault them.

The Sunday roast is unbelievable, especially the homemade Yorkshire puddings. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience! All Yorkshire puddings gone

Came for a carvery, absolutely amazing! The Yorkshire puddings are unreal, the staff are great and the pub is very comfortable and child friendly! Will always come back.

This evening, I went to The Rose N' Bowl for the first time with my mother and her partner to have a carvery dinner. When we came in, we were greeted by a cheery and kind lady who took our names and took us to our table. Straight away after sitting down, we were asked by a waitress what drinks we would like. We ordered our drinks and then relaxed. A couple of minutes later, the kind lady who had taken our names asked us if we were ready to order. We ordered and straight away were took to choose our food for the carvery. The people who were giving the food were kinder than kind, asking us how we were and did we want any gravy. We sat down, ate, and (I am not overexaggerating) this was the best carvery dinner I have ever had. I have eaten carvery dinners in England, Ireland, Wales and Manchester, but this was the best. Once we had finished, we were asked if we wanted a dessert. My mother and her partner didn't but I decided to sample their Salted Caramel Cake, which was absolutely fantastic. I felt full after eating a quarter and asked if I could have it put in a takeaway box so I could finish it in my own time. They did this without any objection, they just asked to take my plate and a minute or two later, returned and gave me my cake in the takeaway box. Overall, this place is somewhere I would recommend to anyone. The food is brilliant, the drinks are just the way you like them, the staff and cooks have the best attitude I have ever seen in a public restaurant and it's only a couple of minutes away from my own home, so I give this pub 5 Stars.

Mothers Day Carvery at the Rose n Bowl is a must in our family, and the there was much disappointment when it wasnt going to be possible this year, but the takeaway carvery was still fantastic and very much worth the gravy balancing drive home. John, Carole and staff have looked after us so well over the years , and its our turn to support them now. The takeaway menu looks great and well worth a visit, and we will be back soon.

After a visit to the flying experience we called into the Rose n Bowl for a carvery. Enjoyed it heaps.

Our first visit to Rose n Bowl Bacup. Had a three course meal, starter, carvery and sweet. The food was excellent, good selection and piping hot. Decent portions, we were that full we brought out sweet home. Certainly recommend them and would visit in future. Thank you x

This really is the best carvery in Lancashire! We first came here about 20 years ago and each time we come we always experience the same consistent excellent quality of food. The chef John is really friendly and makes sure that nobody leaves hungry. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing and great value for money. We stayed for drinks after the meal this time and enjoyed the entertainment. Brilliant night.

More fantastic than the food, is the ambience of the place down to the best of staff who make sure your visit is made enjoyable, never intrusive, yet nothing is too much trouble - from entering this establishment to a big smile from the lady on reception to the chef and every other member of staff who all go out of their way to make you want to return thumbs up to all - good for couples, families or anyone who enjoys a good Carvery

Was looking for somewhere to go for Sunday dinner and after reading some reviews we decided to eat here.The 3 of us got the carvery and it was delicious,I got 4 choices of meat and plenty of each they were all really tender the vegetables were cooked just right with a little crunch.There was a great variety of vegetables .Its got a very pleasant atmosphere and the staff were very polite.It was really busy when we went (a good sign when somewhere is busy)So for future reference l will ring and book a table and will definitely make a return visit.Great food and really good prices

Excellent meal. Carvery has great choice of joints, and vegetables. Caters for non-meat eaters, and children. Great host, and friendly staff-and a fine selection of alles too.

A lovely welcome by the staff, Samantha, Chloe, and Jasmine. Service was brilliant. Jon the Chef with Wayne and Zac greeted us at the food counter and were helpful and friendly. It was nice to feel that we were valued as customers and not just having meat slapped on our plates! (Good sized portions too). The food was hot and delicious. It is some years since we last went, but will be going again pretty soon.

This is very much a down to earth old fashioned pub. No frills. Dingy inside and not many in when we went. However, having said that , the food we had was very good. Piping hot and generous portions. We wanted to try the carvery but it wasn’t on so we had hot sandwiches instead. Lovely and reasonably priced. Service was prompt and very friendly.

Food always excellent always have the blackpudding starter delicious main carvery was to a great standard but the deserts where very dry i had the carrot cake and it was really really dry now if your going to be charging nearly a fiver for a desert then i would expect it to be worth the money. They are usually very good cakes. Well worth the 1.30 hour round trip just hope next time the cakes are better.

Well yet another fantastic Sunday lunch , we’ve used the Rose n Bowl to many times to mention and every time we have not been let down , the chef is the most pleasant and helpful chap to meet , goes without saying the food is fresh and excellent , you would never leave hungry the best for miles around , if you would like a friendly place to rest and enjoy traditional fare then this place is a must , great staff great food , Enjoy ! like us , thanks to all at the rose n bowl keep up with the good work , kind regards Clive Alison Hapton nr Burnley

Been here a few times now and it has a good homely feel and good is home cooked, no frills and tasty, hearty portions and good value for money. Not posh n flash but good hearty English grub. I’m not a Carvery fan but it did look good as was plenty people eating making meat and veg looked fresh.

We've been to the Rose n bowl many times, today was by far the best carvery I've ever had. Every morsel was delicious, to start off with, the plates were hot, the ham beef and turkey was succulent and cooked to perfection, the roasties and duchess potatoes were delicious, and every piece of veg cooked perfectly. Staff were very friendly. We searched for an hour in hyndburn for a decent carvery and ended up going back to what we knew would be better, and I'm glad we did. The chocolate orange fudge cake was lovely too. All in all a very satisfying meal. 3 adults and 2 toddlers, very well priced for the quality of food we received 5 stars

Have been to the Rose and Bowl too many times to count.I have been to other restaurants but always keep going back because in my opinion it is the best eating place around.The state are lovely and keep looking after you. I have also had mum and dad’s birthday parties there and both parents funeral wakes. The staff all looked after us very well I would recommend anytime to anyone wanting a good meal out

Popped in today after myself and my father attended the flight simulator next door. While we only had a coke and pint it had a lovely atmosphere and the food smelt amazing! If I am near the area again I would love to try a meal.

We stopped by for lunch as a few people did say it was a go to for good pub food. There were not too many people in for lunch but we were on the early side. The fish was whale size. It would have benefitted from being served on a platter as the portion was so big. I would say that the fish would have served 2 people. The rag pudding hit the spot for me but again the size was huge .I think the portion size was reflected in the price. Would it be possible to serve a smaller portion as an option as we left so much very good food. Staff were friendly. I would like to go back for the carvery next time.

Our regular group of friends picked this destination as a change from our normal venues. We were not disappointed. Although we have been before we were reminded that for very little money you can have a three course carvery meal served off the bone beef turkey pork or gammon with Yorkshire puddings and veg. guaranteed to satisfy even the biggest appetites.

Once again we had another meal at this restaurant, went for the early bird option 3 meats turkey roast beef and roast ham all of which was served by Jon with his usual big smile .the meat coverered the plate which was more than enough for those with the biggest of appetites there was a choice of fresh cooked vegetables

Absolutely fantastic food and friendly atmosphere been going for over 10 yrs now wether its a carvary or bar snacks it's fab.dont live in the area now but will still travel to go. Superb.

Went to Rose n Bowl for a birthday meal with my family. Wow staff very friendly and attentive, even though there were two other parties as well. 3 of my party had the carvery and all said the same thing. The 3 meats were all perfectly cooked and the chef didn't scrimp with the servings, nice thick slices, the veg wre just as well coooked. I had the mixed grill which again, was perfectly cooked. The desserts were absolutely delicious and the choice was outstanding. A real jewel of a place and we will definitely return for another feast. Well worth the trip and not expensive either

Our 1st visit to the RoseNbowl. We had heard and seen reviews for the place. Well they are not wrong. Amazing great value and great service. The Sunday carvery was amazing so good I won't eat now for a week. Very enjoyable. The meat was a delight and the veg incredible.

Just back from meeting up with friends at the Rose n Bowl and a spit of lunch. I had a lovely home made chilli which was excellent, with a kick to it and plenty of flavour.

I have been to this establishment on so many occasions over the last 30 years or so and it never fails to please. From a meal for two through to parties of 25 plus, I can not fault it for atmosphere, service and amazing food.

Arrived with family for a birthday gathering and thoroughly enjoyed the carvery . Choice of roast beef , gammon and turkey with all the trimmings qWill be returning for it !

Visited this morning for breakfast, has set me up for the day. Beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, egg, bacon(thick), hash browns, black pudding, fried bread, sausages, toast and a coffee. Delicious!!

We visited here for the sunday carvery. The staff where very good amd the bar had good selection of beers. The 3 course calveey was fantastic value for money. Not 1 bad point to mention. Cant wait to go back to try the normal menu.

Best food and service for miles. Booked from recommendations and we weren't disappointed. We had the carvery, meat that melts in your mouth. If you get a chance, book a seat.

Went on the 13 th dec 8 of us meal 8pm absolutely fab food plenty choice hot tasty fresh cooked 4 choice of meats loads veg sauces etc eat as much as you want from the carvery plenty starters lovely desserts big portions £20 a head fab price . Unofficial entertainment by jon the manager and chef never a dull moment when hes there great night enjoyed by all will be going again with friends very soon

Super staff who are always friendly and helpful, good wholesome food that's always tasty and well presented. Recently we have had the Lamb shank special which was incredibly succulent with a minted gravy that made the meal outstanding. We have never left there disappointed and rate it very highly.

I love the rose n bowl best carvery I've ever had. We went for tea time 2 course special. 12.00. A stated or main or main and sweet. Starters were soup mushrooms or melon. Carvery 3 meats potatoes and veg Yorkshire pudding. Tasted fantastic. Always friendly and great staff. I would defo book for 4 or more gets very busy.

The venue is carvery based but other meals are available. The food is good and if you go home hungry then this is your own fault

I booked a table for a family meal. Eleven of us went for the carvery, one ordered of the menu and it was really good. It's pretty busy even on a Sunday evening, very child friendly and the staff are great.

Always good food served here. Anything from the simple sandwich to a full Carvery. John the Chef is brilliant. Does wonderful things with food.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon for a family birthday. I’m a vegetarian and they were notified before we arrived. More or less as soon as we were seated a nice lady asked who the vegetarian was. She came to me and asked if I’d looked at the menu and went through it with me. I choose the vegetable tikka masala with rice. Their were four vegetarian choices. TBH none of the choices jumped out at me but that’s just me I’m quite a fussy vegetarian not keen on courgette, aubergine, green peppers. I’ve had vegetable tikka masala before. I also have a nut allergy and the same lady came to check I was okay with coconut oil. We all had starters which were lovely. The curry arrived in a big silver bowl with rice on the side and it smelt lovely. For me and just me far too many green papers but I worked round them and it was nice. Everyone else had the carvery and enjoyed it. The desserts looked amazing we took home some salted caramel cake. It’s our second visit and next time I think I’m going to ask if the carvery without the meat is suitable for vegetarians as I’d much prefer that. The staff we lovely and very helpful.

Another fantastic meal for my birthday with my partner and kids,loved the satay chicken on the extra,s board,meats beautiful as normal john was walking round and checked all was good with everybody,the staff are all very good at there jobs and very attentive,missed carols smiling face this time,but she must have had other things to do....fantastic deserts i had the rainbow cake to die forkeep doing what your doing and for goodness sake don,t change a thing.....be back soon.The ellis family.xxxx

We called in specially for the World Gravy Wrestling Championships and had the best fun we've had for ages. Excellently organised and totally off the wall it was brilliant. Tongue in cheek comparing, costumes, fighter names, music to back it all up, plus the fire service in attendance to wash the contestants off, it was all great. We loved it. The pub had put on food as well, and of course good priced beers and other drinks in a spacious venue with clean loos.

If you are looking for a good carvery in the Burnley area look no further than the Rose and Bowl. An excellent meal with generous servings of meat (4 choices) and fresh vegetables. No dried out veg on show!. Very friendly and helpful staff and a genial mine host. 3 courses for less than £19.00 to me means excellent value. The dessert choice was extremely tempting and the choice I selected was delicious. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anyone who wants a great meal and value for money. Well done the Rose and Bowl.

My 2nd visit here, and just as good as my first, being consistently good. A decent selection of beers and a good lunch menu. We were on a day package including bowling so we just had sandwiches and chips which were just alright.

Top notch carvery with very friendly owners. The Thursday lunchtime carvery with a starter one of the best I've had. Serves some good real ale too.

We called in here for a meal after having a flight simulator experience next door. We had the special of Ham 2 Eggs and chips, it was quick service and very tasty. There is also a carvery which was busy but it was a Friday night

Wow! This is a real gem of pub, friendly staff and a wonderful menu. Fabulous home cooked food served quickly and nothing to much trouble. Great prices too!!! I'd recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone visiting this beautiful part of Lancashire.

We decided to sample the 3 course carvery and certainly wasn't disappointed. The pate and Prawn cocktail were both lovely, the carvery was tasty and plentiful, but still managed to squeeze in some rather tasty banoffi pie mmmmmm just lovely.

Went back to this restaurant after a few years. Still the same good food well cooked and plenty of it if a little pricey. Would definitely recommend.

Booked for fathers day a table for 4,at 12.30 starters great, and good choice of meat and veggies, usually come for mothers day and fathers day. The only gripe was we felt rushed when we had just about finished our carvery, to get our desserts and leave, maybe the table was needed.. I Don, t think we had been in long but our starters did take time, not sure how long your really allocated to eat etc.. Still very enjoyable meal.

Been going to the Rose n bowl for over 22 years now, food is always fantastic and its perfect for larger family get togethers. We recently had a relative visit from Australia and we had a family gathering here, they were quite taken with the whole experience, it was very relaxed, we were not at all rushed and spent time after chatting and catching up. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Been here a few times for the carvery. There are cheaper ones around, but this is the premium one. They do not cut the meat wafer thin, which look like it was done by laser - Here you get as much as you want, not only is it well cooked, it is quality meat. Yorkshires, veg, all properly cooked, fresh and hot. They will never disappoint.

After a very busy and tiring day, i just wanted roast beef and Yorkshire pudding so we came here. Wasn't disappointed. I chose ham,beef and turkey, the yorshires were enormous and the roasties lovely. The broccoli was a bit wishy washy and the peas weren't available when we were filling our plates.

We usually come to this Pub as often as we can and the food and service never disappoints. The specials are always changing and big John's burger is a fantastic meal and a great price

Came up here for a Sunday roast - it was our first time. The staff were so friendly and made us feel really welcome. It had a lovely atmosphere and was family orientated. The food was sublime - starter, main and dessert. No rush and could have stayed all day. It has a lovely beer garden which was complemented by beautiful weather. We will definitely be eating there again and will be bringing family and friends along too.

I took a trip from work on Saturday 26th May everybody enjoyed their selves and the food was brilliant and also there was a live band on to entertain us. Staff were very helpful and polite very good night

With a party of about 20. Coffee on arrival, sandwiches and chips for lunch, and a fantastic carvery in the evening. One of the best carveries I've had. Bowling was superb in a very tricky green. An excellent day out. Staff very pleasant.

I got pulled over by the police thinking that i was drunk but i was just avoiding all the potholes in the road but once i got there it was brilliant

Visited here on many occasions with family and friends. I have never been disappointed. The carvery is fantastic, they are generous with meat sizes and it’s always delicious. Called to book on the Saturday of bank holiday weekend. Very busy yet food and service still...

Mixed grill steak cooked to perfection. Nice gin bar Friendly staff open despite the bad snowy weather.

Great selection of perfectly cooked meats and a good selection of potato’s and veg. Very friendly staff and good to see the chef come around the restaurant and ask everyone how the food was. Great price as well 2 carveries and 2 pints and 2 soft drinks for £30 great value.

13 of us went for a 50th birthday and we all had the Carvery. I'd been told lots of times...

Had another lovely, enjoyable and very satisfying visit to the Rose N Bowl.

After visiting the local theatre on Sunday afternoon me, my dad and my grandparents were booked in for tea here - we were not disappointed! A great atmosphere and happy staff while it was clearly very busy, nothing was too much trouble for them. Not only did they help me escort my elderly and disabled grandma to her seat they also offered to help her dish up her carvery to her liking (and trust me she's very fussy - likes gravy but not on her veg lol!) The food itself is fantastic, I've yet to find a carvery that compares to it, tender meats; lots of vegetables and HUGE Yorkshire Puddings! After all that the grandparents got tired so they allowed us to take our puddings home so they could eat them with a brew later - they reported that the cakes were delicious too. I cannot recommend this place enough - make sure you come hungry though as there is so much to eat!

Outstanding , what a shame the same can’t be said for the organisation of said dinner !! After being told we had a booking paid a deposit a while ago ,it was apparently changed and we were not informed of the time as we couldn’t have made it anyway , only found out the change when I went to pay balance ,called in to get a refund of deposit and was virtually called a liar ! But think on this people why would we agree to a time which we couldn’t make ? Doesn’t make sense ? No not to us either so Merry Christmas , enjoy the festive period and fabulous though the food may be it is never a good idea to call your customers liars .

Paid an unplanned visit yesterday for lunch (4 adults & 2 children).....what an absolute top notch meal. 4 meats and the chef was very generous carving. Excellent veg choices and the desserts were seriously delicious. The place was spotless and the staff were first rate. It’s around 55 Miles from where we live, but would definitely pay another visit. This country is short of excellent, well run family places like this

Had the Mega pud off the specials board, beef was melt in the mouth two Yorkshire pudding filled with roast beef and onions highly recommend the food here

No frills no fuss but clean and tidy and decent joints of meat I’m never great carvery fan as veg never keeps right for me but if carvery your thing then can’t knock it. Meat and gravy lovely

Sunday 10th September we had a days bowling at the rose and bowl. Great day out. On arrival the breakfast was everything you could ask for. After bowls we had time in the pub for a few snifters after which we had the carvery, excellent. If you are ever in the area and are not sure where to eat I thougherly recommend this pub.

1st time here came recommended and didn't disappoint. Had the black pudding with cheese bacon and mustard sauce for starters and rag pudding for mains . Both delicious. Friendly staff . Will be back soon.

A great selection of pub grub with the added special dishes, the steaks are melt in the mouth perfect and cooked exactly as requested served on sizzling platters, if you want a Sunday roast there's nowhere better and all can be eaten with a great choice of real ales in friendly company. Cold and hot dishes are available for bar snacks if you don't want to eat in the main restaurant.

We visited the Rose & Bowl whilst traveling through the area, it was a Saturday evening & Burnley were playing at home, so as you might expect, it was very busy. There is a good car park opposite the hotel, with disabled parking places. There is a separate bar area.Even though we hadn't booked, we were found a table straight away. The restaurant area is quite large, the seating is comfortable & there is a good selection of beers & wines etc. The menu is quite extensive, we chose the carvery with a selection of 3 meats & every sort of vegetable etc you could wish for, the portions were enormous. Puddings were to die for, again the portions are big.The staff, including Mein Host & his family, were very friendly & helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, even though they were very busy.Prices are very reasonable especially given the portion sizes!We enjoyed eating here, there is a lovely atmosphere, typical northern hospitality abounds, We will visit again next time we are in the area. The Rose & Bowl is highly recommended by us

Used this restaurant on a couple of occasions, mainly for the carvery. As a vegetarian the staff and chefs went completely out their way to make my visit an enjoyable experience. A nice touch was the Head Chef came to the table to make sure everything was OK. We will definitely use this little gem again.
