Lovely central pub/hotel really friendly staff. Basic but really clean accommodation. Free parking and WiFi good. Nice breakfast too! Really well run place, pity the brewery won't fund a fab refit and advertise as the location is absolutely perfect. Really lovely town and the Rose and Crown has parking which is invaluable. Michelle and her staff deserve to be full every night!

Stopped in Clitheroe in the way back from a long weekend in Yorkshire . Lots of pubs to choose from but this one just looks so lovely from the outside . Homemade cheese pie with hand cut chips and fresh veg ..huge portion and absolutely beautiful ..veg cooked to perfection. Fish chips and mushy peas ..huge portion again beer battered fish ..husband says it was lovely .. Chicken breast for Stanley ..he ate every last bit with a few of Mum's carrots . Dessert menu on the board facing the bar ..clearly home made and delicious. Landlord really nice chap and made a fuss of Stanley . Highly recommended ..They also have dog friendly rooms upstairs . We will definitely return ..couldn't fault it x

We visited Clitheroe for the day and we were looking for a dog friendly cafe or pub for lunch. This was perfect. Lovely warm welcome from the staff and the food was delicious. I had hot beef barm which was served with chips, salad and coleslaw . The beef was superb- thick cut, tender beef soaked in gravy, the chips were outstanding and even the barm was excellent. My partner had sausage barm with chips and salad. 3 delicious local sausages . Highly recommended

Had a lovely lunch, beef and onion sandwich, beef was melt in the mouth and chips were hand cut and up there with the best chips I’ve had. Baked mushrooms and Stilton was very good quality and quite a large portion for a starter, the two cask pints we had were excellent, would go back again. Nice friendly service too, and value for money.

We stopped off in Clitheroe on way back from a night in Blackpool. My wife's back was sore and she wanted to rest, we had the weekend off so booked a room, the only one available was the family room but they gave us a discount. The room was basic but very clean, coffee, tea and lots of biscuits and bed was very comfy. Bathroom was nice and had a great shower. After a couple of hours rest my wife's back got worse and due to the amount of painkillers she'd had drinking any alcohol was not an option and we were in a pub !! We reluctantly decided to got home due to my wife's condition and obviously we could hear people in the pub which was directly below us. We spoke to the lady who sorted our room, she was concerned about my wife and offered us a refund, I said I had used the facilities in the room so she offered to refund tomorrow's breakfast which I declined, she then offered us a discount if we visited again, she didn't have to offer any of this, remarkable, such a pleasure to receive such kindness in this situation. Next time we're near the area will definitely visit again.....Thank You

I love The Rose & Crown its my favourite pub in Clitheroe but until today had never eaten there, as they had no vegan options on the menu. However they have added vegan options including on their festive menu so went for Sunday lunch with my husband. This is a family run establishment and you always get a warm welcome, its a friendly place. We had a table in the window and ordered off the festive menu, parsnip and carrot soup, sweet potato, spinach and butterbean stew. The food was very tasty, hearty and satisfying and great value for money. We were too full for dessert even though vegan Christmas pudding was very tempting. They have vegan wines on the menu although not labelled, like Running Duck Shiraz, Lunetta Prosecco and some Concho Y Toro wines which has vegan certification on some of their wines if you check. Overall we had a great time and will definitely revisit to try their other options. We need to support places like The Rose & Crown, who really look after their customers. Lovely friendly service from Ann and Hannah at front of house. Will definitely revisit to try other vegan options like their vegan sausage and mash.

Have called in unexpectedly. Received a nice welcome. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for our food. My wife is also coeliac. And ordered a gluten free option. But this did have batter in the chips. We are thankful that my wife was not portly in the evening.

Came on a monday, deb the barmaid was fantastic, loads of characters, good music, had such a laugh. Unfortunately two days later it couldn't of been more different. The bearded bar man was playing some horrible heavy metal music no one liked, emptied the bar out. I asked several times for some decent music, he refused. We left soon after.

Had a couple of visits to Clitheroe this year and had lunch here. Really good quality pub food at a very fair price. Last trip we had a seafood platter (a sharing dish for two). It was massive and so well cooked I ate all my share and an extra portion of chips. Good beer too and very friendly staff (though the servers were a bit young, inexperienced and lacking in social skills). Highly recommended.

On the outside this place looks like the height of splendour and old-fashioned charm...memories of an old coaching house and much history. However, step through the doors and you are transported to a pub from the 1990s that has stayed there with its shabby decor and carpets...and soulless feel. The place is just full of locals who you just know sit in the same seat everyday, drinking the same drinks. The barman was lovely enough and we both just had soft drinks from the bottles. We did go in there for lunch but after seeing the place it just made us wonder if the kitchen was like that too...sad, as I'm sure this place was once grand....and could be again.

Visited on a day out in clitheroe, nice big pub with friendly bar staff. Plenty of seating available, raised part to the pub with pool table, sometimes has live music on. There is a outside seating area with lots of room. You can stay here bed and breakfast available. Nice pub definitely worth a visit.

Good choice of food on menu, on pie menu,a and on a daily specials board. We were meeting friends, so we sampled a good range of the food. All was very well cooked, generous in quantity, and good value for money. The outside of the pub/hotel is a bit unpreposessing, and the inside looks as if it could do with a facelift, but the food is well worth waiting for, and the beer was good. Friendly and helpful staff as well.

I say leisurely because we weren't in a rush, which was a good job as our meals took ages to arrive! We were served by a friendly and helpful young barman. The food when it finally arrived was piping hot and looked like it was cooked to order. The chips were definitely hand cut and the onion rings were homemade from red onions. The only criticism is that they could have been drained for longer as they were a little greasy. My husband had the local sausages with mash and onion gravy, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

We were in Clitheroe for the day and needed a quick bite before meeting family at the castle. Initial impression of the pub was that it was a little rundown and could use some TLC. We seated ourselves, then ordered some lunch from the girl at the bar, who didn't seem enthused to take my order. The card machine was down so I was lucky I had some cash on me. After about 15 mins a lad came by and told us the kitchen was backed up by about 20 mins. We said we didn't have that long and would have to get a refund. He went and checked with the kitchen again and they said they would get it out in 10 mins, and they did. I had fish and chips which were quite nice; my husband had steak and kidney pudding that he really enjoyed, and our 2 kids shared the sausage trio. All in all, the girl at the bar's service was uncomfortable, the lad in the dining room was impeccable, the food was decent, but the pub and bathroom need some work. Would we go again? Sure, if we were short on options.

Ordered a couple sandwiches 'chicken bacon and cheese and a duck wrap'. There was not to long to wait for our food. What can i say, the portion sizes where generous to say the least and very tasty. Not a crumb was left. Sampled a pint of sunny mead cask ale (a choice of four was nice to choose from). Went own almost too well.. leaving me wanting another. A must for a lunch out.. This review is purely for the pub aspect of the business - I didn't stay at the hotel so I can't comment on that part.We came here on a Saturday afternoon and asked if food was being served - we were told they were still serving and that menus were available on the table. We chose and paid. We sat down and the first thing I noticed was that the table was dirty. We'd picked the only free table that didn't have empty plates and glasses on it, but thought that someone would probably come and clean soon. They never did. After half an hour there was no sign of the food. The barmaid, the only member of staff we'd seen, was eating her meal at the bar and chatting with someone. Ten minutes later, the landlord appeared and cleared away the empty glasses on other tables (not cleaning the surfaces) and left. We went to ask for an update on the food and were told by the barmaid that the chef had gone out "to get something". The landlord disappeared. Once a full hour had passed since we'd ordered (and let it be known that we were the only ones in the pub waiting for food), we asked for a refund. The barmaid apologised and said it would only be a few more minutes, but honestly we'd had enough and weren't prepared to pay full price for anything. We were - reluctantly - refunded.I wouldn't go again if you paid me.

Dined here for lunch with my partner in Summer and experienced a real lack of customer service from staff. A cheaper establishment however we waited over 30 minutes for our meal (a burger and a salad) even though we were one of only a few small groups of patrons dining. The food was also disappointing after such a long wait. One plus - a pretty nice central location.

We spent a day in Clitheroe over the Christmas period and decided to nip into the Rose & Crown for a spot of lunch. The place was quite quiet with the bar area having the look of a dingy social club. We ate in a slightly nicer area overlooking the high street. The menu featured some interesting burgers (ostrich, kangaroo etc.) and reasonable kids meals. We opted for the kangaroo burgers which although a little over cooked were reasonably tasty. Service was slow but pleasant. Costwise, the food and drinks were quite inexpensive and fair value for what they were. Overall the place was ok for a cheapish meal but there are probably nicer, alternative options.

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen
