Best pub in westhoughton, lively, very busy and great atmosphere when there is big sports events but, very relaxed and not overcrowded when there isn't. Great prices, friendly staff, good karaoke, great beer garden which is amazing in summer with a separate area with slides etc for children, snooker table, not strict and the perfect pub to let yourself go without feeling like you're annoying others around you. Extremely under-rated 10/10. :)

Staff behind the bar are slow to serve, just stood chatting. Dog poo in the beer garden where the kids were playing and stood in it all.. We told the staff and they didn't seem at all bothered. Disgusting.

Not bad for a quick bite to eat , have had a Sunday lunch hear before and that was good too. Would have been a 4 Star but we asked for cheese bacon and BBQ sauce on the chips as an upgrade, unfortunately they place the BBQ sauce on the chips cold and then the cheese and bacon on top. Needless to say the cheese doesn't melt and the chips go cold lol, not the end of the world but really they should have a blast under the grill to melt the cheese. Burger was good though and the chicken dish with Italian sauce and cheese was nice too. Everything is a good size so go hungry :-).

Great atmosphere with generous internal and external seating. The pub gets busy on Fridays due to the varied live artists. Sells pub snacks but no food served, which could improve experience.

The staff, the food are great and allowing children in is fine if they are well behaved!! We went for tea on a Friday and about 6 kids were. Constantly running in and out of the pub yelling at one another, the door opening and shutting causing a cold draft. The parents took no notice because the kids weren't bothering them. Not conducive to a relaxing start to the weekend! We will think twice before going again, a shame because Westhoughton. Needs a nice traditional pub.

Firstly, I would like to say that the Rose & Crown is a pub serving food and not a restaurant. The new management have given the pub a new, bright, airy look and they have started off with a small selection of food on the menu, which they intend to expand over the coming months. There is a good selection of tapas available and a choice of two platters for sharing. There are other items on the menu which are served with chips. We opted for the paprika chicken and a platter of chorizo, salami & another meat (9 slices in total) with 3 different cheeses served with sweet chilli chutney & salsa. A small basket of ciabatta accompanied the meal. We ordered a bottle of red wine at £10.00 which was good value compared with a lot of places. The total bill was £21.00. The staff were very pleasant and we really enjoyed our meal. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

We called in for a quick meal on the way to see friends. We were surprised by the tapas menu as we really just wanted a quick simple meal. We choose to have one of the new pizza available instead. It was amazing, in a way I now wish we had tried the tapas if that's the speciality. The pizza was well presented, and I could not fault it. My pizza was called inferno, my husband chose a fully loaded. Both appeared to have tapas elements to the topping and both were extremely tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall very impressed, when we told our friends about our visit they were shocked that we had enjoyed it so much as they were unaware of the change of ownership. We have never visited before but I got the impression from them and our description that the change must have been a very positive one. I can't wait to go next time we visit and try the tapas.

Me and my husband called in for a drink one Saturday evening just to see what it was like. First impressions were mixed. The first thing I noticed was the television on the wall that was playing away to itself. There appeared to be only two cask ales (MPA and Dizzy Blonde). I asked for a dry white wine and was offered Pinot. Fortunately they had a Sauvignon which was nice. Out of curiosity we had a look at the menu. It was plastic laminated paper and limited to say the least. Maybe they're just trying the tapas thing out to see how it takes off. The decoration is a massive improvement but it lacks colour. The old timber beams have been coated with something; not quite sure what. Whatever it was it need brightening up. A vivid orange I think! There was a lack of atmosphere; a television and what seemed like a radio playing behind the bar were not a winning combination. To be fare it was only 7pm but there were quite a few people in. The wine list was a little boring (Hardy's) and the cask ales were lacking or not very visible. I was expecting more choice. I'm not sure who the target market is but my husband pointed out the pool table had gone so this may change the clientele. I heard them say the kitchen closed at 9pm so this isn't a restaurant and not somewhere you could visit later in the evening for a tapa or two with a drink. To be honest I was quite excited about the opening of the Rose & Crown. I was a little disappointed but it is early days. I just hope it doesn't become like other pubs selling chips and pizza with the tv on in the background. This place has huge potential; particularly with a broader tapas menu. I think there is a market for something like this. We will definitely be coming back for a drink but we'll wait to see if the menu improves before we visit for food.

My wife and myself had never been to the rose and crown before, despite it being just a 5 minute drive away from where we live, as before the new owners took over it was nothing more than just a pub. It's refurbishment is very recent and a lovely job they've made of it too. It's light and airy and feels like a nice place to be. Now I must stress the rose and crown IS NOT a restaurant, it's a pub that serves tapas. The menu isn't that big, but it doesn't need to be, as the premise is to have a bite to eat whilst having a drink. The tapas is all made in house, and it shows, the chef really knows his stuff. The meatballs melt in your mouth, unlike the bought in ones which are more like the innards of a golf ball. The patatas bravas is sublime, I could have just eaten those all night. We ordered about 7 dishes off the menu, and some bread to mop up the sauce, they came in slightly larger dishes than you would normally get, normally it's a 4 inch dish, these are served in 5 inch. The price is about right for tapas, but you're getting better value for money for the larger portion. The owner Tony is a brilliant host, he came over a spoke with us several times, he treated us not like customers but more like old friends. His knowledge of his products is excellent. He recommended wine and it was lovely. The staff all look happy to be there and not sullen like some places we've been to recently. They always gave a smile if they caught your eye as they passed. The only problem we had was with the prawn dish, they were slightly over done and a little rubbery. I pointed this out to Tony and he was very apologetic and offered us a drink, we declined the drink as we felt that despite the hiccup, the service and way we had been treated more than made up for it. This is a great pub to meet up with friends and have a bite to eat, or to take the family for a light lunch or tea. I really couldn't recommend the rose and crown enough, you have to give it a try, even if it's just to have a chat with the owners, brilliant people. They're not after your money, if they think you've ordered more than you'll eat, they'll recommend that you cut your order and just order more if you're still hungry, they really do just want you to enjoy the experience, after all, that's what makes you go back. We'll definitely be going back again on a regular basis. You have to try it, you won't be disappointed.
