Roosters Sandwich Bar in Bedford

The best sandwiches I’ve ever had, and that’s not an exaggeration. Service is fantastic and every time we’ve been the place has been packed. Customers are greeted as old friends (the waitress remembered us from 4 months ago!). Also the coffee is fantastic!

A really good evening meal at Roosters. Food was great and so was the service all night. A cafe in the day and a restaurant in the evening, if your in Bedford I’d recommend going. The only small thing I would say is it’s a little cold next to the door especially what it’s cold outside, heating was on but a there was a strong draft was coming through.

Best breakfast in Bedford - you can get cheaper, but not better. Nice place too. Family business. If it counts that it's good, go here

We have choosen this place cause of the good reviews and we were a bit disappointed. We walked in for our breakfast at around 10 minutes past 10 and we were nicely greeted, however we waited nearly 15 to order, and there was only 1 more table with a couple. It looked like they would prioritise the take out orders rather than those sitting in the restaurant. We finally got served our breakfast at 10.55. We had asked for soft boiled poaced eggs but my partner had hard boiled. The bread was chewy and not fresh, ( was stored in plastic bags) and could have been toasted a bit longer, the tomatoes could have been grilled /cooked rather than served raw. Presentation was good, and the sausage was of a good quality. The younger chap serving us was very nice and polite.

Absolutely fabulous food, 2nd time visiting in the evening and quality and flavour doesn't disappoint. Service was a little slow but made up for in friendliness and honesty. The young front of house team tried their absolute best and made fantastic cocktails!! 💯 We'll be back.

Great coffee & food, lovely friendly staff!!!

Six of us went for dinner on Friday evening and had a wonderful time. Food was delicious, good range of wines, engaging and attentive service and, perhaps best of all, remarkable value for money. Highly recommended.

Outstanding breakfast. We got the full English and it was so tasty. The sausage full of flavour, runny eggs and crispy bacon! Price was about 13-14£ but the ingredients so good. Make sure you try the homemade hash brown. Incredible. Service polite and nice atmosphere. We will come back for sure.

Had the most wonderful meal at Roosters @ Night - a delicious Bistro style menu which was cooked and presented with such care, with excellent staff and a cosy atmosphere - oh and excellent wine and cocktails too! Cannot recommend it enough and can’t wait to return.

After looking for a place to have a nice brunch we agreed on trying Roosters. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. We arrived and ordered drinks. We had to wait quite a while for these. The place was cold and this may have been due to people going to collect takeaways orders, none the less my view is that the comfort of those sitting in to balanced. We ordered a full English and the Hash brown meal. Neither plate was warm and the food was not hot. On the hash brown meal the hash browns were cold in parts and the shredded potato was a little more al- dente than should be for a hash brown. The mushroom had so much liquid as if it was not fresh and or had nor been cooked as mushrooms ought to be to ensure all the moisture is out and just left with a plump mushroom. There business at that time of day seem to focus more on the takeaway side of the business. I make this claim due to the time we waited from receiving drinks to when the meals eventually arrived. We had finished the drinks well before the meals arrived. It was clear that I had not eaten much of the Hash Brown meal as there was so much of left. I was asked if everything was okay. I sad clearly no. There was customer service to understand why I had left so much of the meal. In my opinion I sensed a not interested in receiving customer feedback. If I could score lower that 1 star I would. I appreciate this may be only one review that is not glowing, though those that do read and venture there make sure you get served timely and your food is freshly, hot.

Great atmosphere, good range of food, including vegetarian options and just the nicest and most helpful staff ever. I cannot praise them enough. Well worth a visit.

Lovely spot for couples. The welcome on arrival was lovely , warm smiles and a real welcome. Menus was neat and well thought out. Oh and the cocktails.... made with care and great ingredients. The chicken Satay with hot peanut sauce was lush , creamy sauce succulent chicken. We both had the pork belly for mains and it was fabulous. Our first visit but deffo not our last.

What a fantastic evening, from the cocktails to the delicious meal. All three courses were exceptional and they accommodated my dietary requirements with no fuss at all. This is an absolute gem of a place which we will definitely visit again….very soon!!

Well, what can I say. Went to Roosters last night for the first time. On a Friday and Saturday night it transforms from a daytime cafe into a cute little bistro with twinkling fairy lights. The food and service was attentive and impeccable, with a beautiful menu and fabulous cocktails . Have the scotch egg starter! Loved that the owner/chef came over for a little chat and Anisha, the waitress, couldn’t do enough for us. Other restaurants should take a lead out of their book. Please support this little restaurant- you won’t regret it!

The sandwiches we ordered took a long time to arrive and the portion of fries came after we had finished eating our sandwiches. Our food was served much later than another diner whom had arrived after me. The sandwiches were nice however at £6 each, they were a little over priced in my opinion. The price would have been more justified if there were some crisps or salad to accompany the sandwiches on the plate.

Last night we had our third dinner at Roosters. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the cafe transforms into a restaurant. The food is really excellent and the service is just lovely. Without exception, every dish we have had there has been delicious - with a special shout out for the scotch egg starter and the chicken Schnitzel. Three Yorkshire puddings stuffed with beef were a bit much for a starter, but were extremely tasty. This is a fabulous addition to Bedford’s restaurant scene. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Absolutely fantastic evening meal on Saturday night. Great atmosphere and fantastic food and cocktails. Much nicer than our recent visits to Embankment, D’Parys and Park. Highly recommended - book before you come as its popular. Well done all !!! cannot wait for our next visit !!!

Our favourite sandwich shop and cafe in Bedford! An eclectic selection of sandwiches with great vegetarian and meaty options for brunch and lunch. Lovely staff! They also deliver so we’ve used them to deliver a great selection of both sandwiches and cakes to the office. We’ll worth a visit!

Having visited in the daytime to the friendliest cafe I have been to, we decided to visit for the new venture of dinner. It was well worth it. The food excellent, freshly prepared and cooked, nice wine and excellent service. I highly recommend a visit.

A few weeks ago I took a chance and popped into Roosters for breakfast and I am SO pleased that I did. I’m a vegetarian and the veggie breakfast is the best I have had in Bedfordshire! It’s so well thought out and the flavours and textures are really well balanced. The staff were also really lovely and it was a quiet, chill place to spend a Saturday morning.

I visited Roosters for the first time with my partner yesterday evening, just for drinks. It was such a lovely atmosphere, the staff were super welcoming and the lemon & thyme margarita was exemplary! Will definitely be coming back 😁

Finally a decent restaurant in Bedford! Roosters transforms from a deli by day into a fantastic “Bistro style” experience on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I have dined several times now and each time I’ve been impressed by the quality of the food, service and Espresso Martinis!. Fish dishes are particularly good as are the accompanying sauce all for a very reasonable price. I have long lamented the dearth of quality restaurants in Bedford where we have some fantastic looking restaurants serving poor food (Looking at you Embankment, Swan and D’Parys) so it’s a great addition to the town. We eat out in London lots and it’s so good to finally get a quality meal locally without needing to jump on a train. The food is clearly prepared by a chef that cares, rather than assembled by a cook that doesn’t. BTW the home made scotch eggs are also a guilty pleasure to consume in the equally fabulous Beerfly next door!

Lovely staff, beautifully clean, drinks and fries were wonderful. However, the 'Welsh Rarebit' wasn't like any I or my friend had ever had, more like a thin piece of cheese grilled between 2 slices of toast. Was supposed to have a caramelised onion relish in the toasted sandwich, but we both thought it tasted (and looked,when we peeled the bread apart), exactly like Marmite. Not much choice for vegetarians. I'd go for drinks, but not for the food on this experience, I'm sorry to say.

Bedford - considering it's huge Italian heritage (and with a few notable exceptions) isn't blessed with a lot of really decent sandwich places. If it's well priced, freshly made and v generously portioned sandwiches you're after then this is the place for you. The menu is extensive with deli favourites such as the Reuben available and the staff are v friendly & welcoming.

Went for dinner, was really bloody good. Thoroughly recommend.

Tried Roosters evening bistro last night and we were all bowled over. Service from Anthony and Stephanie was top notch and the food:- pork, chicken and beef were all outstanding as were our starters, scotch eggs and yorkshires. Certainly one of the best meals we've had so far this year. One suggestion would be some greens of some sort with the chicken instead of tomatoes, however that wouldn't stop us returning. Keep up the good work Roosters who, by the way, also do fab breakfasts and lunches.

We love to support local and when we heard Roosters was opening in the evening we couldn’t wait to try it. The meal we had was outstanding and they were so friendly and welcoming. Service was attentive but not overwhelming. There was a different feeling eating there in the evening and it had a bistro vibe. .it was a great night out and we highly recommend. Well done Roosters we will be back and we will bring friends with us.

Wow, what a treat this was today. We decided to go for a casual lunch and coffee, took me ages to choose as the menu was so good with a huge range for veggies. Opted for a decaf mocha and a lovely sandwich. We finished with cake. The little cafe itself was lovely and cosy, and the staff were so friendly, attentive and quick. We will be visiting again, it was excellent.

I've lived in Bedford for as long as Roosters gas been open and everytime I drive past I think I MUST go in the one day. I finally did. It was very early on a Wednesday so my friend and I had the place to ourselves but the staff were so lovely and friendly and accommodated my dietary needs perfectly and even made us something that wasn't on the menu that we fancied. That's excellent service. Coffee was awesome too.

Really enjoyed my food, my wife had homemade hash browns with great pulled pork and perfectly cooked eggs. But the really great thing is the staff, super friendly to newbies and regulars. Busy on a Saturday lunchtime which is always a good sign

I have been using Roosters for a number of years for my lunch and occasionally our team turn up mob handed to eat in. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Jenny and her team. One of our offshore visitors had very particular dietary requirements which were handled tactfully and extremely professionally. The food is a step up from the normal cafe standard. Prices for most things are up on the walls on boards with a specials board as well. If you want anything specific then just ask and it will be made for you on the spot! There are busy times at lunch time but the fact people will wait is a testament to the product and service levels. Most people here are regular despite the quantity of local competition which is often more expensive too. I have just finished one of their famous 'Bedford Baps' which is essentially a breakfast in a bap but cooked beautifully. No trucker greasy spoon style but properly cooked quality ingredients. There are cheaper in other parts of town but not the same quality of product.

Absolutely fabulous!! I had a vanilla latte and a Bedford Bap. It was all freshly prepared and absolutely beautiful. The flavours were perfect! The decor is absolutely wonderful. It feels very cosy and even on a dull day it’s super bright and light. The staff were lovely and very professional and friendly at the same time. You could hear them having a laugh together making it a fun and joyful experience while eating in. I completely forgot to take any photos of my food because it smelt and looked so good I couldn’t wait to eat it. Thank you everyone at Roosters. I’ll definitely be back.

Recent visit to buy take away bacon sandwich 2 pieces white bread 2 pieces of very dry reheated bacon a splash of TS £5.00 WOOOOW!!! Defibrillator required in close proximity to premises required!!! Couldn’t see any price menu on wall when inside only chalk board for liquid beverages & other more lunchtime cuisine yes maybe I should of asked before ordering but behave yourself £5.00 that’s ridiculous!!!

I would go to Roosters every day for lunch if it didn't take so long to get a basic sandwich. I would also like to try more of their specials but because that takes even longer I don't bother, because I don't have time to wait and need to get back to the office. Once you get a sandwich it is great. There always seem to be about 5 members of staff but only 2 making sandwiches and with no sense of urgency and it appears very disorganised with people running backwards and forwards to the kitchen. They are all very friendly and lovely and always ask how you are and if you have had a good day, but to be honest I wold rather they didn't ask me, if it means getting a sandwich in less than 20 mins. My colleague went to town and back to buy crisps for my sandwich in the time it took me to get a sandwich. I don't wish for this to come across as a bad review because as I have said the food, especially the sausage rolls and scotch eggs are amazing, I just think that some organisation and speed would make it an even better place.

Delicious sandwiches and friendly staff.

This is a small but popular lunch venue on a busy road junction. Managed to get an indoor table. Menu and Specials have plenty of options. Coffee was good quality. Hash Browns cooked in beef dripping with toast and beans were excellent, really filling. My wife enjoyed the bacon bap and pot of tea. I would definitely return and recommend.

Ordered a salad £8 to collect and honestly so disappointed, smallest portion which was mainly Lettuce, strongly recommend looking in to box before paying, Roosters should feel embarrassed.

Roosters has become my go to for lunch when in Bedford. I work all over the UK, but now I most look forward to returning to Bedford to eat here. Staff are all so welcoming and lovely! Really friendly faces and true care and passion goes into their food and service. The food is of a real high quality and the presentation is also amazing. Their sausage rolls and scotch eggs are to die for too, especially if still warm! I'm glad I don't live in Bedford, just because otherwise this place would make me bankrupt as I'd be there daily and for dinner too haha. Thank you to all the team, you're a great bunch.

I love this place and the staff really go the extra mile to provide great food. I ordered a Pharoe and wanted it vegan. Despite the fact that they'd run out of plant based spread, they went out to buy more and also made a fresh portion of coleslaw with vegan mayo.. It would have been much easier to say 'sorry, we've run out..' but not here.. not with this team.. fab example of doing what you need to to provide excellent service. The sandwich was tasty and fresh.. If I could have given 6 starts, I would have.. good food, great customer service and a fab attitude to business. I will of course continue to go there..

Husband loves breakfast baps where is I prefer lunch. Ordered the Reuben sandwich. Best I've had in a very long time. Cooked precisely to my preferences. Staff was lovely and very helpful. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

This sandwich bar/restaurant has really upped its game. Going from a basis sandwich offering and being transformed by the new owners to a culinary offering of such range. The menu still offers the basics but everyday there is something new, fresh and exciting to try....

Ordered a selection of canapés for an event. Roosters put together a fabulous selection, including tasty vegetarian options. Really loved the little Yorkshire puddings and the veggie samosas. Very generous portions and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend Roosters catering.

We have ordered buffet lunches from Roosters a few times now. They are always outstanding. If you are looking for a bit more from your buffet, have visitors to impress, Roosters nails it every time. Visited Roosters a number of times for takeaway lunch. Definitely the place to go for a working lunch. Fresh, seasonal, lots of options both hot and cold. Sandwiches are made on a choice of breads- I love the thick 'doorstop' sandwiches. Nice Millionaire's shortbread too.

Amazing chicken thai red and the macaroni and cheese is lovelyyy

We had the two mains and two desserts for £22 deal and it was incredible. I ordered the Mac & Cheese which exceeded my expectations by MILES! Who thought mac and cheese could be that DELICIOUS?! My partner had the chicken with some world class fries and gravy, I’ve never seen him eat so silently, devouring every bite. We finished off with the lemon cheesecake and chocolate brownie which topped off an already perfect experience. We had never been before and now this will be our local for a takeaway.

Over the last few weeks I have visited Roosters for Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch. On each occasion the food has been really good and the service excellent. I would highly recommend the specials and the breakfasts. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was nice and tasty however was put off by how it was prepared. No gloves were being used and the foil used to wrap my food had traces of direct contamination with other food. Which is really a shame because the panini was nice, but because of the hygiene standards will not be going back.

Roosters is a fabulous place, the food is brilliant and the girl's are truly amazing, always smiling. Makes my day going there.

Love my lunch..we had coffees with baguettes, paninis and I had a Churchill. Fantastic service too. I have to be honest and say that the lady serving me was beautiful...I shall certainly be returning.

I visited with my husband for lunch today. This is the first time we’ve had lunch here but it won’t be the last. We had homemade soup with bread which was delicious. The ambience in the cafe is warm and friendly as are the staff....

Lovely fresh food, small but cosy, good portions

Great spot for a filling lunch. I have been frequenting roosters for about 6 months since changing workplaces and it’s been great. Their selection of sandwiches is ridiculous and you can pick and choose from the many fillings available. They also serve cakes, crisps and hot/cold drinks. The place is kept very nice and their decor is fantastic. They often have specials like stewpots that are amazing. There’s inside seating for around 20 people in total and outside seating as well if the weather permits it! Highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed
