Papillon Coffee House in Bedford

Really super little café. We stopped in for a slap-up breakfast and were not disappointed. Good coffee, great sausages and a friendly atmosphere. I'd definitely go back.

For me this is THE coffee place on Castle Rd. A real community hub, with delicious food and drink.

Absolutely gorgeous breakfast this morning sat outside in the sunshine. Lovely to go to a place where breakfast is served, for the not so early risers too!

I've been going in here for years, and it never disappoints. Great atmosphere, great hot and cold drink and food. In particular, the milkshakes......yummy.

Found it by accident very pleasantly surprised

Popped into Papillon for a quick coffee and to grab lunch. Coffee was fab and we really enjoyed the lunch. Always a good atmosphere and excellent service.

Met a friend for a couple of hours and had a lovely time. As a wheelchair user I wasn't sure how accessible it would be but looked nice so thought we'd give it a go. I arrived on my own and there was a ramp although this was quite steep I managed. When I first got in, it was a bit busy and couldn't see where my friend was but as soon as I came in the staff saw me and came to assist me. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, making sure everything was ok for me. It's not the biggest of places and so if you are going to visit and your wheelchair is a bit bigger, then I would suggest coming at a quieter time than I was there. There was a large toilet, although I didn't go in to it so not sure on accessibility features. All in all, a lovely place and will definitely visit again.

From the outside, this looks nothing special. But is actually a really good place to eat for brunch or coffee and great selection of cakes. Quality of food and menu was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Fab little cafe with amazing coffee and cake. loved the pretty interior but seriously let down by one rude member of staff who glared at me when ordering and almost threw the card machine at me. Two other members of staff were lovely though. Please retrain the girl with long dark hair in ponytail.

Very lovely cafe. Child, dog and laptop friendly! come here quite often as its down the road form us and its always the same. Happy, warm and welcoming :)

Papillon is our go to place, Lisa and her team are always cheerful happy to help and full of kindness. The coffee is always as we like it, why would you go anywhere else?

We popped in here for lunch with our granddaughter without knowing if it was any good. We had a very pleasant lunch. It was freshly prepared and the drinks were good. The staff were very helpful and we were served promptly, without feeling rushed. In my opinion the prices were good, better value than the well known chains and better quality. We will go again. We didn't try the cakes this time, but they looked good.

We enjoyed the food and time spent there. Sorry for giving only 3 stars for the service. The coffee house was very busy, but I think the waitress should finish serving a customer before interacting with somebody else. Otherwise, it was a nice experience. Thankyou.

Calm, pretty small cafe to enjoy casual cofffee with friend. However, if sitting in room at back of the cafe, we found a little cold, as they have the door to kitchen or some storage area open. And there was cold coming through continually.

Lovely little gem not far from the river or Town Centre. Staff very friendly, food and coffee great, check out the many different cakes on offer to tempt the taste buds. Go and visit it, can thoroughly recommend the paninis for a lunchtime treat.

We recently attended a bottomless Prosecco and grazing board evening. A lovely warm welcome, cosy atmosphere with lots of charming fairy lights to add to the ambience of the evening. All staff were very friendly and attentive, plenty of prosecco and the grazing boards were very generous too, lovely selection of charcuterie and cheese.

Lisa at Papillon Coffee House recently went above and beyond for our sons birthday cake, we've had a few cakes from her this year and all have been amazing, can't recommend highly enough

Ordered the picnic box for 1, Apricot Danish and a Baguette from this place. The food was soo good in the picnic box- especially the pretzels which were to die for. The baguette was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately they ran out of pastries so I got the sausage rolls instead. I would definitely recommend the food at this place!

Lovely surprise, great food and lovely staff, hidden away

Gosh this place is fantastic. I come here whenever I go to visit anyone or have anyone over and we need cake! I've attended crafty evenings held here, which were incredibly fun, and Lisa baked a crumb-coated cake no questions asked when I said I needed one to decorate for my niece's birthday the next day. Genuinely the loveliest people run it; you can tell they love the community and are one of those businesses that uplift it. Recommend: Their white chocolate and raspberry cake and their biscoff brownies are to die for.

From the outside it looks lovely but once you get inside you'll find out that the prices are very high. I'm medically unable to have caffeine so was looking for a decaf coffee or tea. No luck there so I had to have a glass of water. Tea is not on the table menu so unless you look on the board behind the counter you wouldn't know that they sold it. Sorry but I won't be going back.

Love the design of this coffee shop. Very wooden and chic! Posting as I had an amazing chai latte (some places make them way too sweet but this was perfect) and the best frangipane I've ever had. So I figured they deserved a good review. They were lovely and really good service too. Now I know about this place I'll definitely be back! (Picture attached of the big bit of frangipane! Which I may have already taken a bite of 👀)

Lisa and her girls are fantastic! I have special dietary requirements and feel a nuisance when going out for food, but they were so accommodating and helped me to find foods appropriate to my needs. Ever so friendly and sweet. Definitely one to visit if you haven't done so already!

Excellent coffee and fantastic service, we ordered a large latte with biscoff syrup and a amrricano with hot almond milk. I struggled with the online pay system but one of the ladies there took our order manually. We will definitely come back. Thank you

Purchased a oat latte but had really severe lactose reaction !! Staff nice n cake but on after thought I wonder if because we had had very troublesome news, that my tummy was in a very stressed state. Thank you

Recommended! This is a friendly homely place for a proper coffee and a snack. And they are extending the premises. The name may be French, but the atmosphere is English. Bon.

Take away service only at present due to Covid but coffee is great. They also have a mix and match "sandwich" menu where you choose from bread, bagle, baget etc, then choose any 2 of an assortment of fillings, you can also add salad if required. They also have a selection of cakes. Service is always with a smile. A great place to pick up lunch, with Russell Park and the Embankment at the end of the adjacent side street.

Had a suprise mothers day afternoon tea delivered today (suprise from my daughter). It was very nicely presented and tasted good. Would definitely recommend.

THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC! I’m amazed it has received anything but positive reviews...the staff are fantastic, the food is delicious and all the cakes are home made, generously portioned and taste incredible. Lisa makes all the cakes herself and also makes cakes for special occasions too...we’ve had christening cakes, wedding cakes and they have all been exceptional! They have dealt with the transition into Covid brilliantly and kept their intimate atmosphere even with all of the changes. LOVE THIS PLACE!

I have heard great things about this place but maybe, those people didn't visit it on a Sunday. It felt like the people working on this day have never worked in a cafe before. They looked nervous and uncomfortable behind the counter and taking orders. The service really did leave a lot to be desired. They didn't know if they had tables available or how many, we had to find our own table. They came to take the order but they didn't even have a menu, they brought drinks out but no sugar or spoons, we had to ask for most things. I couldn't believe it. We asked for 2 baguettes with bacon, avocado, chicken and tomato. The baguette itself was very chewy, like a dog's toy. Both baguettes were inconsistent. They garnished every plate with a tiny bit of side salad and crisps, I still don't understand it. They should just put an option to have salad in the baguettes but this might be too much for them to handle and might make things even worse. We were not very happy with this cafe, 2 weeks on, we still talk about how bad this place was. They truly excelled in providing an unforgettable experience.

A hidden local gem! I held an event here and was not disappointed the food was superb, presented in a warm cosy friendly atmosphere. Exceptional service, very attentive and professional. Coffee house in the day, wine bar in the evenings, I will definitely be coming back here!

Fantastic coffee shop one of the best in bedford . The staff are lovely so friendly . The coffee is gorgeous and the selection of cakes blows you away ! Plus the cake is one of the best I 've ever tasted ... caramel apple cake highly recommend. We even took some away for later . Geared up well for covid too ... wrapped knife and forks and clear screens everywhere . You must visit !
