Roosters Piri Piri in Southend-on-Sea

This is such an underrated restaurant, come in for birthday lunch. No one was in only me and my fiancé. The staff were very friendly and the food was tasty! Quick service, large portions. Really recommend.

I got a delivery tonight and I understand it’s busy because of bank holiday weekend but no excuse to serve raw chicken, I would rather have waited a bit longer to ensure the food was properly cooked.

Cold, dry food, slightly undercooked, uncomfortable atmosphere. Staff didn't care seemed bored, didn't check on us.

Me and my partner had a very tasty lunch today. Great flavour, beautifully soft chicken & lovely and hot. The wedges are so crisp and crunchy skin however fluffy and soft inside. Good fries also. Partner had a strawberry milkshake which was very good. Weve been quite a few times and it's always been spot on. Will go back again when back in the area. We have Lebanese flavour and its just so so good.

We have eaten here for years and although I think it’s changed hands a few times we’ve never been disappointed. Nice flexible menu to suit all family members - spicy to plain options, kids love the rice! Prawns were removed on the last menu change but I’m assured the halloumi option with Lebanese flavour was lovely ! Did try delivery option once but was disappointed compared to eating in - plus the staff are always super nice and helpful

The resturant looks really nice but that’s where the compliments end. The door does not close and they don’t have heating, so if you are eating in bring an extra warm jacket!! I had the beef burger royale which was average. The beef burger was chewy and over cooked. The peri peri chips I had where bland and the medium peri peri chicken wings I would give a 2 out of 10. Cleanliness and sauces, the sauces where off putting, especially the chilli sauce which was a shame. The resturant is new, but no one seems to be cleaning the tables and the floor after the customer leaves.

Went with my wife and there was only about 3 tables full. Ordered a chicken wrap, sweet potato fries, halloumi, wings and potato wedges. We waited over 40 minutes for fast food basically. Ridiculous. Staff are rubbish and there’s a right moody cow that works there.

I visited twice, and both times I was satisfied with the food. Quite a good choice, and not too expensive. I sat with some friends at the round table, which was good to have for up to 8 people.

Missing a wrap, and the chicken was undercooked and pink inside, also the sauce lid was open and spilled throughout the whole bag. When I called the restaurant to resolve this issue, ask for a refund, or even get our actual food delivered the man was extremely rude. He told us we were liars as they did put the wrap in the bag, when it wasn’t there.

One staff member had a mask ‘on’ but it wasn’t covering either his mouth or nose 😡. Food was poorly presented but was ok. Uncomfortable bench and little room. Not sure if I’ll visit again

Considering it’s just off Southend High Street, you would expect they had more then 2 staff, especially at lunch time on a Saturday! Nothing against the staff, I can see they are trying. Issue is with management, perhaps new management who clearly do have a clue how to run the business. They have 2 members of staff, 1 working the grille and the other taking restaurant orders, taking online orders, waiting tables, preparing food and also cooking. Staff are under pressure and can be forgiven but require more training, on the menu where some items are marked as gluten free, staff member is disputing this saying it is not gluten free. I was waiting at the till for over 15 minutes waiting to place me order, but the 2 staff were too busy getting food ready for other customers, however they refused to look my way or at the queue of customers formed behind me waiting to place their orders. I think some acknowledgement would’ve been good and also be apologetic for the wait, it’s just good customer service. When ordering the chicken strips they were trying to discourage order by saying it will take a long time to cook? 3 of the things I tried to order I was told were not available including all milkshakes and mushroom to add in the burger. I can safely say this will be the very last time I come here, shame as it used to be good. Now I am waiting for my food, if the manager see’s this, I’m on table 4 and happy to discuss where improvements can be made. Been 20 minutes so far waiting for food...

We liked to go here at least once a week, as the food is quite good, but in the last few months, each time we've tried to go, they've been closed. Nothing on the doors to state why, no information, nothing. We've driven into town specifically to grab food there. Very unprofessional and we've had to look elsewhere now as it happened again today.

I came here yesterday with a friend. We were looking for halal food whilst we were at the beach. Love the nandos style where you pick you own seasoning, and theres so much to choose from. Not many good vegetarian options but lots of exciting chicken dishes. Both me and my friend loved our food, amazing flavour and great quality, the salad in my burger was fresh and bun was brioche and very soft. Only complaint is that the piri piri seasoning on the chips wasn't that great but overall the price is amazing for such great food. Am definitely coming back!

We made an order through Deliveroo with Roosters Piri Piri Southend which included 3 adult wraps and 1 kids wrap with chips and a beef burger. The order was delivered on time, however when unpacking the food we noticed that the food was overcooked. The chicken was very chewy and not tasty at all. The chips were very hard and even the beef burger was not tasteful at all! I have sat in this restaurants many times in the past and had some lovely and tasty food. I called the store directly to address the issue and spoke to the Manager. I explained the issue and he did not even apologise! He advised that the food was cooked correctly and that it was Deliveroo’s fault for not delivering on time, even though it was delivered within 30 minutes?! I am not sure if the franchise has changed ownership, but I will NEVER EVER order again from Roosters Piri Piri and will ensure my friends and family will not either. I spoke to Deliveroo and they apologised for the bad quality food and the customer service I had received from the Restaurant. They kindly provided me with a credit note for the full amount which I will now use in one of the reputable restaurants/take aways in Southend. Disgusting! The service is a so bad and the staff do not listen to the order correct. The hygiene of the food is absolutely awful. Re-heating rice twice in the microwave. The chips taste like they have been cooked in a deep fat fryer that hasn’t been changed for at least a month. The chicken is soggy and has no flavour. Saying that your order isn’t ready but it’s sitting under the heater. The staff also not wearing PPE during a pandemic. Will not be returning.

Restaurant roots are chicken but it also has a variety of food. Some of the best food in the area. Very nice drinks. Great service to top it off! Absolutely Amazing!!

Been there several times in the span of 4 days ( while I was visiting the area) kept coming back for the delicious food, their chicken burger with peri peri sauce is to die for , wraps are amazing too. Staffs are friendly. From what I noticed the place is popular with the locals and it's no surprise giving the quality of the service and food. Would definitely recommend.

We ordered 2 salads 2 refills and chips. Waited 20mins for the glasses for our drinks. 35 mins for food. That was after I complained. It wasn't even busy.They were too busy chatting aimlessly walking about doing nothing. The chef was eating while cooking - vile no handwashing seen at any time.The food wasn't nice. The diet coke was watery. Definitely wont go back. If I hadn't paid when I ordered or been in rush I would of walked out. Awful.

Love this place..food is delicious and service is great.always get a good welcome on every visit and I have never left disappointed after I've eaten..I'd eat here over nando's any day of the week!

On the whole I had a pleasant experience.Staff friendly and food was served quick.Toilets were clean which is always a good sign.I thought the food was good value for money.Why didnt I give 5 stars?I ordered buffalo wings. I believe these should be crispy? Instead they were regular wings?My burger was slightly cold.I would return however.

Really impressed with the place. Nice spacious seating for friends and family. Lovely decor. Food was on point...chicken was nice and tender and the marinade was too good...dare I say it, it was better than Nandos! Service was prompt and extremely helpful. Would definitely pop round after the beach for next time. Big thumbs up for me!

The chicken wings are to die for. If you can eat spicy food, ask for the extra hot marinade with extra marinade drizzled on top. Try the smoothies too, its freshly made.

Upon entering the restaurant it was spacious, clean and welcoming. The menu has a lot of variety and I was served with a smile. I was recommended the grilled halloumi for starters which did not disappoint, followed by a chicken wrap which was also amazingly delicious. I also tried out the summer cooler which was refreshing and perfect for hot day. Overall I cannot wait to go back and would recommend it. Will not be going nando's after trying out roosters southend.

The food at this roosters tasted fresher than my local Mile End brunch, I don't know if that's real or just influenced by the amazing ambience of this restaurant, a cut above the regular so makes the perfect place to enjoy a long leisurely lunch with friends and family. If I'm in Southend again, I'm looking forward to coming back here.

Very clean, lovely food. Tried the lamb burger and buffalo wings. They were cooked exactly how I wanted it and service was quick. Staff are polite and very helpful.

Visiting Southend-on-Sea or even those who live locally, this is the best place for grilled chicken and more!

So we used to come here n the food was great.After being done up its gone down hill.No ice,4 waitresses just standing around the place.Dry chicken with the new barbeque sauce.It was sweet with no flavour.Not bothering again.

The piri piri chicken is amazing - not least because you can choose your 'taste bd limit' as you can start (on your first visit!) a mild sauce and build up as you get braver!

Great place to get peri-peri chicken. Cheaper than Nandos with much better chicken. Never dry and always covered in sauce. Halloumi slices also much bigger than Nandos. It's also halal if that's what you need (I think the Nandos nearby is not)

I often order takeout from this restaurant via the Just Eat app and I love it. Really great chicken which is never dry or greasy. Would highly recommend.

Here's the thing! - Valentines day, a work day, cinema starts at 7pm. Want to treat my lovely wife and only have an hour between partking, getting to the cinema to see the wonderful Twelth Night live from the RSC and eating. It has to be Roosters, constantly good, relaible, reasonably priced and never let us down - been a few times. We share a chicken meal, six strips each half tame the other blow your socks off spicy - wow very good. Share a rice, a fries and a coleslaw but NO disaster they ran out of tabbouleh salad! The date is ruined, my life is over, disappointed wife. She got over it, we are still together, the film was excelleant and Roosters perfomed yet again.

Have not been here for a few years, so popped in for lunch, you really need to order side dishes or couple of starters to bulk it up which are inexpensive, NO chilly sauces on the tables, just an average quality Tomato sauce and a Mayo so you can't spice it up.

Staff were extremely helpful, chicken was cooked to perfection lovely and succulent but our rice was hard and dry, everyone said it's better than nandos ! I disagree, although the portion size is double the size of nandos but the piri flavour doesn't compare, also I like to add piri sauce on my dinner but roosters don't allow you too have their sauce as extra, its mayo only ! Like I said it was ok but wouldn't be my first choice to go here.

Sin duda fue la mejor comida que tuvimos en nuestro viaje de 4 días. El menú es similar a un lugar completamente calle pollo, pero mucho mejor. Fantástica patatas fritas crujientes, pollo, ensalada. El personal era maravilloso, con todo el mundo, incluidos los más pequeños y adolescentes corriendo amok gruñón. El servicio fue rápido y nos sirve con una sonrisa, cuando la camarera volvió a ver. Me sentí como ella realmente les importaba si estábamos disfrutando de nuestra comida. La comida tenía un precio razonable y una buena relación calidad-precio. El restaurante estaba muy limpio, así como las instalaciones. Si vuelvo a extremo sur este será mi primera parada.

Tuve pan pitta, que era delicioso, y una ensalada de pollo piri piri, que era agradable. Pensé que no sería lo suficientemente satisfactorios, pero sorprendió que era. Pollo sabroso y cocinado era realmente rápido. Lo recomiendo si lo que quieres es un sabroso almuerzo saludable. Mi única queja es que la mesa estaba pegajosa.

Visitamos después de ver que en Jamie y mostrar comida Jimmy's en la televisión. Decepcionado al ver que no estaba disponible al menú mi visita. La comida estaba bien y no mal servicio buen lugar estaba limpio y ordenado. Simplemente no me dan esa chispa. Verduras asadas parecía duros. Pero aparte de eso, yo diría que estaba bien.

Popped here for lunch as we fancied a wrap and knew Nandos would be a nightmare to get into. Was really nice! We both had a chicken wrap - fries on the side for me, wedges for my other half. The wraps are really packed full of chicken and salad. I also had halloumi in mine although not much of it.Refillable drinks.£6.79 for a wrap and a side - not bad and you do get a lot of food for your money!Pleasant staff and clean inside.

We when on an off chance, we met for lunch, for my wife's birthday. There was seven of us and a baby.The booths that they had, did not fit us all, so we had two tables pushed together. When we arrived, the place was very smokey. We all sat down and my son-in-law went to order the meals.Then I noticed that the front door was open and the couple directly looking at it. The gent then stood up and walked over to the door and closed it, as it was bitterly cold outside. Then the girl who worked at Roosters, walked over and opened it and walked off. Then the gent stood up again and closed it and once again the girl opened it and said, sorry the extractor fan was not working and they needed to door open, to clear the smoke, which was fine, but it was absolutely freezing in there.When my son-in-law, came back he said that there was no whole or half chickens for the next 20-30 mins only strips or burgers and that he ordered what they had, so we did not have to wait.Well it got colder and colder in, so cold the you could see the vapour from your breathe and now the girl was at the door, waving it back and forth, making it colder than ever and the she also started Turing customers away, saying sorry we are not serving anymore people for at least the next twenty minutes, this went for the next 30 minutes.After waiting 40 minutes for our meals, which all came at different times, my was a sloppy thrown together chicken burger, soggy and greasy. It was all very tasty, just sloppy and the place was freezing, so we had to keep our coats, hats and scarves on.We I eat there again, yes maybe in the summer lol

I have been to Rooster Piri Piri on a few occasions and I have always found faults with the service and the hygiene of the restaurant! I have never found fault with the food thankfully, as it's great! You really can taste the freshness in the food. When I've visited the floors were very slippery and dirty and the seating was also very dirty, it looked like it needed a nice deep clean. If the staff spent less time standing around chatting to each other and more time cleaning the restaurant then I as well as other would most likely visit more often. (From previous reviews)Another thing in regards to the staff is that they aren't that welcoming when you enter and leave the restaurant, I thought this may have been a one of but it has happened on all occasions and to other customers. Hopefully my feedback will be useful to management, keep up with the good food!

Lunch venue picked by my other half, great discovery!The waitress was quick to seat us, explained how it works - basically, you get a menus, you choose what takes your fancy, you go up to the till and place your order and pay. The food is cooked and the waitress brings it over to you, along with any drinks,Food was freshly cooked, so we waited; instead of the 'part cooked' places you can often get caught out in... it wasn't a long wait and the food more than made up for it. We only wanted a share meal, so we had the Chicken strip share platter with Lebanese spices, rice and a salad (forgotten the name, but it had Parsley, Quinoa, tomatoes and red onions). The food tasted great, well presented and very simply done. All round winner for me, so I will be going back there!

Normally love this restaurant but it was disappointing today. Order wasn't ready when I came to collect even though I had left it an extra 10 mins already. The drinks were flat, the wraps and pittas were ok but the sides were stone cold. We had to heat them up as they weren't even remotely warm. Will go again because it's been much better but today was highly disappointing

Visited for the first time with my partner. The restaurant is big, open, airy and clean. We were initially greeted by a friendly member of the staff team, the ordering process was explained and we were given the menus. The choice is good with something to suit most people.We ordered a sharers platter of Piri Piri chicken strips with the coleslaw, Piri salted fries and Tabbouleh salad. The food was served fairly quickly, the portion sizes were good and very tasty! The seating is a mix of booth seating and tables and the customers choose were they would prefer to sit. All in all a really good choice for a reasonably priced and casual evening meal, I'd have no hesitation in returning.

loved the food, but the girl who served us had ridiculously poor hygiene, her hair fell in my food! I could never fault roosters as the food is great but this particular woman made us leave early as I couldn't be around her any longer, her body odour made me feel sick, couldn't believe it from such a nice place.

me and my boyfriend are regulars here, love it, healthy,fast, fresh and tasty , no complains at all. x

For what it is and what you get, it's a decent place to eat and it's fairly cheap, even more so if you have a student NUS card. The staff have got better over the months and the food and presentation has also met a higher standard. Over all, not a bad dinner!!

Me and my Girlfriend are regulars here. The food is amazing and staff are really friendly. We both recommend the Wedges from this place there amazing they go well with the peri peri dip . The restaurant isn't anything fancy but it's great for a bit of quick tasty food. The restaurant is very clean as well . We used to go to Nandos, which is just down the road to it and then it was ramo in there so we tried roosters, we haven't looked back since not to mention the bill is so much cheaper here it's pretty much half the price. We have been going though the roosters cards as well think we're on our third . Also if you have a Student Card then you can get a 10% off the bill. Overall would recommend to family and friends

Always superb quality food, cannot get enough of the place. Always enjoy the pitta meal with lemon & herbs. Real Asian spices which is not too hot for me, and choice of herbal teas. Nice service.

One of our families best restaurants we love the food here great selection especially with the different favour options. Great service even though they do have a high turn around of staff (always a new face) bill is always a surprise after ordering so much food we pay so little. wish they would introduce some nice desert options. Other then that I can't criticise.

This is a really great place to eat. It lacks the decor of its competition down the road but I think the food is better and a lot nicer on the wallet too. Staff have always been courteous and efficient. Can have a bit of a student feel to it sometimes as right next door to the university campus. Don't let this put you off though it is definitely worth a visit. Parking is free after 18.00 on the meters nearby or in Sainsburys opposite. The carpark in Sainsburys is always open even after the store is shut so don't worry about getting your car locked in.

Had dinner at Roosters last night as thought would give it a go. Have to admit I was disappointed.. I ordered a medium piri piri pitta with coleslaw and rice. I couldn't taste any hint of spice whatsoever. Although the food was tasty it just felt like I was eating a chicken shish kebab... The staff were attentive but I honestly don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon... Sorry..

I have visited roosters on two separate occasions now and both times I have left feeling satisfied.I feel that roosters is a very good place to go to have a quick bite to eat. I wouldn't choose to come here for a family meal or for a special occasion but it is very good to go to if you are in a rush or meeting up with a friend. On both occasions I have had the chicken strips in Tikka flavour with sides (I have been given extra chicken each time which was a nice bonus) .The chicken is very tasty as well as the sides. I particularly enjoyed the Tabbouleh Salad.You can get a tasty and filling meal from here for less than £10 :) My only criticism is the restaurant can get very cold as the door often gets stuck open when people are entering.

Absolutely love the food couldn't fault the place anymore the table was a little dirty when I arrived and had to wait for someone to clean it, the staff are lovely and personally think they should have name tags so we can thank each and everyone of you individually rather than being rude as we're not knowing their names. We love Roosters! The chicken is so tasty and well cooked! The Piri Mayo dips are amazing but make sure you check they actually put the amount of dips you ordered in your bags. Don't rate the chips at all, often soggy cold and just naff! Nice and quick service, just sometimes your food can be left a while and their bags don't keep your food warm at all!
