Arrived at 3.30pm and restaurant still had people in but could see staff looked liked they were packing up. Ordered tuna melt and 2 teas price outrageous just under £20! Food arrived had to send back as was semi cold staff didnt seem to care. Food came back warm. During our time in restaurant could here an argument in the kitchen and heard "what they expect to come in here at 4 and then complain" obvious was talking about us as they pointed and looked in our direction. When we left I said have you a problem ? They looked sheepish and said if you want to slag your customers off maybe do it quietly and dont point at us when someone asks who you were talking about and get your facts right we did not complain - would you eat semi hot food. No. They did say sorry just had busy day said no excuse. Wont be visiting again.

my wife had the tuna melt which came with salad, the salad was terrible, brown round the sides and dry, looking days old, when I spoke with one of the staff she just shrugged her shoulders I asked if she would like to eat it to which she answered I don't eat salad !!!!!! I told her that it should never have been served to which she replied I'll take it and show to the chef !!!!! that was the last I heard on the issue,,, a restaurant should never serve food like this

A Facebook entry from staff member Charlotte began a series of posts and texts that solved my mystery.... I had lost treasured photos, with apparent scraps of paper containing info like the contact of a witness to a no fault accident I had! Apparently I had dropped these items from the case of my mobile. Today staff at Roomes reunited me with these photos (of my lovely wife), my scraps of paper and a comb. It may sound silly, but these things are so important to me especially in these times. The directors of Roomes need to know that this customer is so impressed with your staff. Thank you. Merry Christmas! Duncan

A very nice place to meet up with friends and family and solo trips too. The food is of a high quality and there is a very good range available. Great salads, always a soup and lots of appetising hot food. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Me and my wife have visited Roomes on several occasions whilst in Upminster. Breakfast is ok, coffee is nice and the mince pies we bought were superb:)

Dirty cups and small portions for the price, asked for a clean replacement mug for tea and was given a dirtier one. There was also a fly in my milk and when I told staff they couldn’t care less! Staff are rude and unhelpful, over priced and when I emailed to complain I was just ignored! Never visiting again! Begrudge giving it even a 1*

Sunday lunch, too few staff and those who were there were slow, disinterested and rude. Food average. Appalling considering how good it once was.

I had scampi and chips, which were fine if nothing special. There was supposed to be tartare sauce with the meal but there was none. When I queried this, I was given a couple of sachets of tartare sauce which was not as good as fresh tartare sauce. The apple strudel is lovely. Perhaps a little on the expensive side now, but still reasonable value.

My family and I have been meeting up for decades in the Rooms store cafe and have never been disappointed , until yesterday. By 1.30 there was not a lot left on offer , the plates were cold and the price was steep , the manager was taking the money on the till , he was so abrupt that we were a little scared !! There was nobody to clear our table after lunch to make room for our coffee and desserts and when we asked the manager ( again ) he replied “no table service lady “ . Please do not let this review stop you from visiting the store itself, I personally think that the manager of the cafe should go seek some help and training from any one of the excellent and professional sales team .

We came again for breakfast, it was excellent. This is a very clean, spacious restaurant. All the staff were very friendly and approachable. Roomes own car park is a very short walk away. The breakfast was well cooked, hot and nicely presented. £7.80 for a choice of eight items, two slices of toast and tea or coffee, very good value. Recommended

Instead of meeting for a coffee in the usual over-priced places we decided to meet up In Roomes. We were there by 10am after parking in their car park. Coffee and tea very good together with crumpets, croissants and massive tea cakes. This is definitely our new place to meet. Light, bright and comfortable seating. The salad bar looked so appetising so next time we're meeting for lunch. Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff. The actual shop is like a mini John Lewis with such a good selection of everything from crockery, clothes to gorgeous lingerie with lots of brand names available. Keep up the good work Roomes and long may you be the highlight of Upminster and the surrounding areas.

Great breakfast. Lovely lunchtime quiche. Always very good. Service can be a little hit or miss. Most of the time it works well. It is worth a visit.

After walking around Roomes with my family and going through each floor to see what the shop offered we discovered that they had a restaurant. As we arrived at lunch time it was very busy but there were still a lot of seating available with a lot of staff quickly clearing tables after customers had left. There are long queues during busy periods, you might be in the queue for at least 5-10 minutes. However, there are a lot of staff replenishing and making the queue move as fast as they can. The prices are on the more expensive side with a bottle of water being £1.60 and bottled fizzy drinks being £1.90. However aside from the drinks the food is of good quality and large portions, the muffins were massive and for a muffin of that size it was such a good price for £1.90. They do a wide range of different foods and even have a kid's menu, meaning everyone can get something to eat here. Wish I had come earlier for the breakfast, which is priced at £6.40 for 2 slices of toast and 6 other items included as well as tea or coffee - a reasonable price for breakfast especially from Roomes.

Visited there yesterday at 1.15 two persons in front of us in queue . As usual lady in front food going cold due to waiting whilst staff member on till takes drinks money. Husband ordered two Baguettes with sausage in them. Up came staff member after twenty minutes of waiting with two plates. I said to my husband these are Panninis not Baguettes. As a staff member was passing by I asked her? these are not Baguettes are they she said no.. She took away came back and said they are cooking more sausages. I said do not want anymore now and away she went and came back with a refund. Upon reflection the blonde woman who took our order was not busy when she took our order we were the only customer nobody behind us, The cooked food cabinet was stacked with pale cooked batter puddings. Roast potatoes more white than roasted. and a big joint of meat and other items. Never known so much food still available at 1.30 in the day, Mind you was told where Morleys bought the store from Roomes they have sold it on. Very sad to see the decline of Roomes. They might be using the Roomes name but the standards that were Roomes they are nowhere near.

Lunches, sandwiches, good selection. Good all fresh. Old fashioned good service. Always busy. Dawn t keen on the Sunday lunch.

We came here for breakfast, it was very good. This is a clean, spacious restaurant. Plenty of seating and clean tables. Our breakfasts were nicely presented and we'll cooked. Plenty of choice on the menu and good value. All the staff were very friendly and polite. This is a very popular restaurant, always a good sign. We've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. Toilets are clean and tidy. Parking opposite in their own car park. Recommended

Roomes is a traditional department store, which has been in Upminster for years. The store has 3 floors, full of high quality products. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and has always been very good quality ever since I first visited as a child (over 30+ years ago). The restaurant is fairly large, has toilets, a large seating/table area, and a walk-up counter. They serve breakfasts, hot meals, along with pastries, teacakes, and other items. The choice is very good, suits all appetites/diets, and is of a very good quality. The staff are helpful, efficient, and serve quickly. The prices are around average for outer London. Definitely worth a stop-off if you're in the area. Keep up the good work Roomes !!!

I love Roomes. The staff are always friendly and helpful and their stock is good quality and well priced. Nice cafe on the top floor. There aren’t many of these family stores left now and it’s always a pleasure to visit this store.

The staff were professional and friendly. The surroundings were clean and smart. The food was super value, generous portions and tasted gorgeous!

Went here for light lunch (soup and bread). It was very tasty! The food is freshly cooked. The staff are always polite and efficient. Not overcrowded in here and a nice atmosphere in a local department store.

My wife and I came for breakfast today, it was excellent as usual. Our breakfasts were freshly cooked, nicely presented and hot. All the staff were very friendly, polite and make you fell welcome. The breakfasts were very good value for money. The restaurant is very clean and spacious. We've been here many times and have never been disappointed. If you want good value food in nice surroundings, this is the place. Recommended

This restaurant which I've been visiting since a I was a little girl has definitely transformed into a spectacular quaint place to have a hot beverage and some food, whether it's hold from the counter or cold from the fridge. Also they have a beautifully displayed array of of freshly baked cakes on the day which are all labelled and atleast 3 gluten free cakes to choose from. Upon me and my partners visit we were served with smiles and politeness when ordering our coffee and hot chocolate.... Our cakes were very nice especially my gluten free victoria cake which I must say is the best I've ever had.... The taste and texture was practically unrecognisable as being gluten free. I would highly recommend it for anyone needing a break from there stressful shopping.

I visited Upminster again and wanted to go to Roomes restaurant.The atmosphere was quiet but people were eating and talking.We had gorgeous big jacket potatoes filled with mountains of chicken tikka which tasted excellent.The side salad on the plate made a very good meal.After a talk we had a dessert of carrot cake all lovely and soft and tasted very good.I will always visit this restaurant for its lovely quiet surroundings and the helpful staff when I go to upminster

Went here for lunch with a friend. The soup of the day (Tomato) and roll was good. My friend had a small bowl of salad. It's not particularly cheap, but the food is good quality and is nicely presented. The restaurant itself is clean, airy and pleasant.

I regularly meet friends here for coffee/tea.. we no longer opt to eat as servings are either stingy or put onto too cool plates. I have dropped by for a drink mid afternoon but won't entertain a cream tea or cake (because of the doubtful freshness - scone worse then rock cakes!). I can only presume there is a lot of waste!

Had to go to Romford and Upminster in particular and silly me said lets go to Roomes for a sandwich. Although only 1,45 barely anything on display, Hence asked for a sandwich cheese and pickle to be precise. Assistant asked do you want butter on the bread. Husband had a prefilled roll from the counter with cheese in, My sandwich arrived well butter must have been put on by someone who badly needs an eye test. And the cheese that thin almost like tissue paper price £4,99 and arrived with a tiny amount of salad, And some unknown cheap make of salad cream. Rather forgo the salad and have butter you can actually see and cheese you can not see through. Still that is our final visit. And for a place showing scones and advertising afternoon tea that had none. Needs a good manager in there to run it properly.

It's a great place for breakfast. You get 6 items for£6.40 and this includes 6 items,2 slices of toast and a cup of coffee of your choice. Brilliant value and everything is freshly cooked very well. I would recommend this place as the setting is nice too. The staff are polite and friendly.

Since last review on here on 16th January 2018 I also complained to Roomes Management and was sent vouchers, Was told this Restaurant is nothing to do with Roomes. It is run by a catering company. Would think as it trades under the name of Roomes . Roomes would be more fussy as to how it is run, It seems if the money is right anything is passable today sad to say. Came back on 6/4/2018 both had the sausage baguette very nice. Asked if want sauce husband had brown and I asked for mustard. The mustard was bought over in a little pot been dished up from a larger container. No taste not even hot like mustard should be, Brown sauce tasteless. Is there not enough profit in a sausage baguette at £4.60 to cover decent sauces with it? instead of cheap tasteless rubbish they give out here. Will not come here again whilst they are still quite happy for customers to have their food going cold whilst waiting to pay stuck behind customers in a queue wanting only coffee, They continue to sell their customers short. Would have thought Roomes would tell them how they want it done. But it seems who cares about customers anymore?

Went to the restaurant on the top floor. Lovely ambience! Pleasant and efficient serving staff. You queue for food and there are various breakfast options. I chose 6 breakfast items plus 2 slices of toast plus any tea or coffee drink - all for £6.40 - very good value for money. The food was fresh and nicely cooked.

Have not been here for four years since moving away from area, It was bad before we moved so gave up going there. Assumed another revamp things must have improved wrong. Went today January 16th for breakfast arrived at 11am I have trouble standing too long so husband knowing what I wanted said go and sit down, He ordered our breakfasts, In front of him three separate woman customers all ordering different drinks. One wanted a Skinny Latte, One a skimmed milk coffee, One a Soya coffee. The girl making the drinks after serving each one then stops to take each persons money in turn. Meanwhile our breakfasts are going cold. Lady who dished our food up said to my husband I will take your breakfasts to your table. Husband pointed to where I was sitting and over she came and put the plates down each had a metal cover over the top. I am sitting waiting for husband to be served our coffee and pay, I lifted the metal covers from each plate and looked and not a bit of condensation on the underneath of either cover which you would expect if the food was hot to start with. And the other no.no. cold plates. It was the most awful breakfast ever. barely warm waste of money. Why no member of staff on a till just to take customers money? Customers then could pay and be given a token to come back for their coffee once eaten their breakfast, As it is you stand like an idiot with food going cold whilst customers in front of you differ about deciding what they want to drink, Then they all want something different and then each has to pay in turn before your turn to pay then with supposedly hot food get to sit down, Surely someone from management has the brain to see the present system is lacking in operational skills here. Better staff planning is needed here, Compared to average Roomes breakfasts are not cheap so surely they can afford a staff member to just take customers money on the till. Would have complained and sent food back but had an appointment to keep. Spend thousands on keep up dating the restaurant but never give a thought to the end product which is the customer experience. And sadly that is how it has always been and about time Roomes looked into employing somebody who really knows how to manage firstly staff and be in charge of a large restaurant which is obvious they do not have at present. We will not be going back that's for sure.

Roomes have always had a very good resteraunt, I have been using since 1964 when I 1st moved to Upminster, even though the store has changed hands but still kept the name, the quality and selection of the lunch time menue has always been of a high standard.

An independent department store in Upminster. Unique in shopping terms as unusual to see a niche department store in days of online shopping. Well presented, good range of products, and different to stores found on most high streets. Family friendly with a Santa’s grotto, a great toys department and kids clothing section. Cafe on top floor recommended. Friendly staff too. All in all well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I came to Roomes on Saturday to meet my daughter we went to Moda in Pelle to try on shoes... the pair I liked they didn’t have in my size but assured me that would be delivered within six days , however 24 hours later... and on a Sunday.. they were delivered... Thank you for a great service!I go to Lakeside and trawl round and end up with nothing but at Roomes I’m always going home with goodies, also thank you to the lady on Phase Eight too...very helpful!!

I met my friend in Upminster Essex for some shopping and lunch We went into the store called Roomes which had clothes perfume kitchen utensils etc.My friend said they have made the Restaraunt bigger and better and a good menu.They had a salad bar with quiche and cold chicken also a hot menu with a good choice of different meals including a roast,fish and chips,steak pie home made,and chicken in a cream and mushroom sauce which appealed to both of us.We had a big plateful because we got a good portion of the chicken,plus roast potatoes,peas,carrots and broccoli.It was delicious and very tasty as well.I thoroughly recommend this Restaraunt as it was very busy and the staff were very friendly. I'm definitely going back there to have this meal again

Wewent to Roomes for a spot of lunch last Thursday and was bitterly disappointed with the standard of the food. We have often popped into lunch and been quite satisfied with the food but this trip was a dismal failure. My pork roast was awful, great chunks of fatty ,eat. potatoes that had obviously been left under the lights for hours and dollops of congealed gravy.. My Dad had the lasagne and played hunt the meat! To be fair it was 1,20 pm, but even so , surely its best to close earlier if the standard cant be kept up. The chef came over and refunded us our money back, but still very disappointing,

Roomes is well-established in Upminster, and has been for years. It's one of those last remaining department stores selling good quality clothes, toys, gifts, cards, kitchen equipment, home furnishings, make-up, and luggage. I have been coming to the shop for over 40 years, and used to always visit the toy department, especially Santa's grotto every Christmas when I was young. It makes a change to have this type of shop nowadays, and it's really nice to still be able to come here, even if it is 30 minutes from where I now live. The store has different floors, and sells high quality goods, many of which you won't see in other shops. The gift section sells cards, wrap, chocolates, and home décor, and has a lovely selection at Christmas. There is also a very nice quality restaurant/coffee shop, selling drinks, cakes, and pastries, along with full breakfasts, and meals which are of very good quality. the staff in the store/restaurant are friendly, helpful, and treat customers very well. The store is always clean, tidy, and well-organised. Roomes also own a high quality furniture store across the road which has 2 floors, and sells sofas, tables/chairs, beds etc. I bought my dining set here 8 years ago, and am pleased with the quality of the item, and it's durability. Roomes really have a good reputation, and it's great that they have still maintained a presence in Upminster for all of these years. Keep up the good work!!!

Roomes Store has been the centre of Upminster forever. Service is always excellent. Good quality and value for money in all departments with for me the exception being menswear which is expensive and I don't find their range suits me.

Brilliant breakfast here such good value for money two toast always given staff very polite restaurant very clean. Eaten here many times always good.

Good value for breakfast which is what I had. If its busy, there can be a bit of a wait. I thought the staff were ok and helpful for a self service restaurant

Friendly staff and really nicely cooked breakfast ( particularly the mushrooms !). It's a little bit like 'Are you being served' being in Roomes and the restaurant is no exception. Local residents seem to go there and appears to be the meeting point.

The meal,chicken casserole, was so tasty and the vegetables fresh and superbly cooked.It is a self service restaurant which had attentive and pleasant staff and the surroundings and furniture excellent.

I popped in here for breakfast , the food is very good and I exceptionally liked the free toast not one of your breakfast items that are counted in the price. The food is all very fresh and the fried eggs are cooked to order. I will be returning lol.

Sneaky coked breakfast leading up to Christmas. Nice range of items on the menu and staff really friendly and helpful. Slightly pricey ( compared to a greasy cafe) but you are paying for a nicer calmer atmosphere in an institution of Upminster.

Haven't eaten here for a while, but decided to visit with my wife for breakfast.

We go here on a regular basis on a Saturday for lunch, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, nothing is a problem. The roast dinners are home made, tasty and very generous in portion, coffee is good, the salad is nice. It also has the added bonus of being a local company to support rather than a multinational.

Roomes always reminds me of the escapades of Mrs Slocum, Miss Brahms and the others at Grace Brothers.

I do like visiting Roomes, the store has the feel of a traditional English store with a wide selection of goods on display. The staff are always friendly and the restaurant serves great food, especially the breakfasts :)

I don't often eat here as I prefer smaller cafes. However, I found the food quite good, although my jacket potato went back twice as it was undercooked. I have tried the breakfast which I found very good.

Not a bad place to eat as a cafe of for a cup of coffee is shopping in Upminster, although its quite expensive for what you get
