Romiley Arms in Stockport

I have visited the Romiley Arms with my family on many occasions and always given good reviews based on the service and experience. Previous managers knew us and made us feel really welcome. You will be able to see several of these reviews dating back a number of years here on my TripAdvisor account. On this occasion I contacted the Romiley Arms using the Greene King booking service for a family get together to celebrate my son in laws 30th birthday. Everything appeared in order, I organised a cake for the event and the guests who had accepted the invitation were all notified, only to be contacted online just before the booking (good job I checked!) and be told that there were limited menu choices available due to a shortage on a delivery. I then phoned the restaurant and explained that the few main meals that were ‘available’ did not included vegetarian or vegan options and most of my party had these dietary needs. I was told sorry, there was nothing available for them other than corn on the cob! I asked if anything could be sourced for them in time for our booking and was told no. I then had to rush to cancel the booking and find a suitable alternative venue for everyone. Other than a ‘sorry’ on the phone I received no other contact or expression of empathy / apology for the inconvenience. We will never return to the Romiley Arms.

Nice food plenty of choice from the different menus. Friendly staff who were really helpful and looked after us Came with students from Aquinas college.

Visited the romiley arms for the first time to meet up with some friends that live in the area. We never thought that the food would be as nice as it was. But we absolutely enjoyed it. We intend to make this a regular visit. It was quiet relaxing evening enjoyed by all.

Came in as a regular but decided to dine at 20.30hrs & my order was quickly accepted & delivered by friendly barstaff(charley may,ellie & chef neil)top drawer food & service👌👏bravo greene king👍

Used to be local haunt before moving away from the area, was disappointed when I revisited....staff are very rude to customers, slating customers behind there backs. Arguing with customers on the floor, no delivery escalation skills. I gather the pub has no management at present. But if staff can't even manage the basics, then they are not fit for purpose. Empty glasses everywhere, food and other debris scattered everywhere......and staff just stood round on there phones. Hopefully when I return again they will have a manager in place and I can leave a more positive review

Why can’t the bar staff smile. Doesn’t feel friendly, don’t think they want to be here. Coming in here for 20 years it’s not the same. Happier in the greyhound as there is more atmosphere and happier staff. A graveyard is more alive than the bar staff.

The atmosphere was lovely at the Romiley Arms; the staff are nonstop and go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome. The food was great and served promptly. All staff on duty were absolutely fantastic. This isn't my first visit and won't be my last. I'd recommend it to anyone. I'm writing this because I feel it's only right, especially during the Christmas period. It's so busy, and the staff work nonstop and deserve praise. Too many people are quick to write about the smallest negativity and completely exaggerate it, but not many will take the time to say the positives. Well done to all the team and management, and thank you for the great customer service.

We came in Saturday 28th for a few drinks, atmosphere was enjoyable, good place to be. Staff were friendly and management were helpful. Would recommend.

Booked table for xmas day in October for 1.30, was told it was 2.30 even though had confirmation. Waited had to ask for table finally sat down at 3.00 , table had mayonnaise and sauce bottles strewn on floor etc. did not get main meal till 5.10, police were called apparently by pub as people were complaining!! Meals came 1/2 hours apart, were inedible, no cutlery. Terrible snotty manager no apologies just sneering! Saw at least 40 people walk out most got money back, I got money back thank fully, never again, don’t risk it.

My friends & I booked a table on Christmas Day for 1.30pm to be told, on arrival, it was booked for 2.30pm. We quickly checked the email confirmation & the time was, indeed, 1.30pm. We then waited till 4pm to be served a starter; 5.30pm for the main. The worn wood and cracked surfaces of the Romiley Arms can no longer pass for shabby-chic. Unfortunately, as the furnishings have faded, so has the attitude of the staff, especially in the restaurant, where warm smiles and snappy service has been replaced with surliness and sneering. It appears that customers are despised with a passion. Time seems to have stood still for the menu too. There’s nothing offensive about the food at the Romiley Arms, it’s just so terribly predictable. The old favourite of turkey Christmas dinner is still there like a comfy pair of pants, but it’s been shaken up a tad with a ‘modern twist’ as they say in the trade. The meat was chunky, succulent and sliced as opposed to shredded and it was jazzed up with slick minimalist presentation. But don’t dribble too much as that’s where the excitement abruptly ends. My main course, the common garden, turkey Christmas dinner, arrived raw. It had a pulse. Confused, we quickly referred back to the menu to see if we’d managed to overlook the word ‘sushi’. But no. It also arrived as cold as a mortuary slab. However, as my pores began to open from the steam rising from my piping hot carrots, sprouts and roast potatoes, it quickly became apparent why. My friend’s nut roast had suffered for my beast of a turkey. I felt a moment of guilt. It’s funny how swiftly guilt passes. The Romiley Arms must have employed Derren Brown as Head Chef for the afternoon as he was a real whizz at the art of deception. The soup looked extremely promising but resulted in synthetic gloop with 2 thinly sliced pieces of white bread and a large knob of butter in a thimble. The only thing that slightly redeemed it was an unexpected, cheeky parsnip aftertaste. Dining in the Romiley Arms wasn’t the most impressive of experiences. Like a failed contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire trying to rationalise their loss, I came with nothing and left with nothing. Such a contrast to Christmas Day 2023 at Romiley Arms, when the atmosphere, service, food and the staff, were second to none.

Worst Christmas dinner ever booked for 1.30 didn't get meal till 4.30pm meal half cooked couldn't eat it totally ignored by snotty management police called got full refund spoke to families who walked out and went for a Chinese. Avoid like the plague

Great staff friendly and helpful and funny. Food came on time and all the starters and mains were spot-on. Great choice of beer and wine and the Guinness was excellent.

I was appalled. My friend Ian and myself went for a drink and there was a women sleeping (drunk) on the carpet in the middle of the pub. We were mortified that the management didn't remove her. Her partner was sat oblivious to the fact she was sprawled out in the middle of the pub obviously having too much to drink

Came for the tribute. The atmosphere was amazing. There was 7 of us here and all of us highly enjoyed it. Charley May and Chloe were amazing and Hannah took great care of us. Cheap drinks and the food was amazing. Would recommend. Can’t wait to come again

Sad to write this for one of our favourite go to places for birthdays, but after receiving a final notice ticket of 170£ for parking at their car park during one of our family meals, I don’t think we will be back. We filled in our reg number like we always do but something clearly went wrong. As we paid the fine, we now have no right to get it back. We’re a family with young kids and 170£ on top of the money we spent during our birthday meal is just not sustainable. None of the companies seem to be responsible and therefore able to help. Read we’re not the first family this happened to either which is a shame.

Shocking. Saturday night, massive pub, about 25 people in there and we were served drinks in plastic cups! When i asked the bar staff why, she said the glasses are in the wash!! Also full of youngsters who go the toilet in 2's or 3's and come out with their eyes wide!! Staff know whats going on in there but turn a blind eye.

I booked on line for a family get together of fourteen people for an afternoon meal, and once again we had a lovely time. The meals had been submitted on-line a week before we arrived and other than a minor detail being missed with a large salad being served on a separate plate, everything was well presented and delicious. The pulled mushroom chilli was amazing, I loved it, and my daughter said that the Katsu Chicken Curry was delicious. My son also said the Macc and Cheese was the best around. The waitress taking our food order and first and last drinks order was super efficient and really friendly too. My grandkids could not get enough of the play area which is secure and next to the beer garden. All in all another great afternoon. Thank you so much.

We had a babyshower for my daughter. Food was amazing and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. Staff were so helpful.

Excellent fast service as requested. Looked after brilliantly by both Tammy and the chef. Food very good though disappointed that the crumble has been taken off the menu. Meal still excellent value for money!

Staff were lovely, food not so great ordered two mix grills an came an hour after an looked like it was slung on the Plate, steak was chewy, sausages over cooked an egg slimy, the smallest amount of peppercorn sauce. Plate looked quite empty tbh. The dog dog next to us enjoyed it tho, but will say the passionfruit punch is lovely.

Food was fresh and beautiful. Big portions and great value for money. Steak pie was massive and lovely. all the staff were so friendly. Will definately recommend.

A friend and I had a lovely meal tonight. I expected the rump steak to be nice but nothing special due to the low price but it was delicious as well as a bargain. They swapped my chips for salad and the beef dripping gravy was devine! 10 out of 10

Nice atmosphere and friendly even when football was on which in some pubs can feel a little rowdy. Had the nacho shared with pulled pork and it was exceptionally good. Friendly staff as well.

Worst family meal ever Table had food on floor underneath table and also table hadn’t been wiped down so dirty Ordered meal on their app and after paying got told that meals not available so had to reorder again at bar so got double charged as they couldn’t refund app purchase at pub Waited an age for meals which came out in two batches at least 30 mins apart and also had items missing on each meal which were ordered and paid for Fire alarm went off half way through meal and was told to leave pub and as we got to doorway was told it was false alarm and we could go back to our nis cold meals without an offer of refund or new meal Was promised refund from green king customer service for both payments and only received one refund and for less than paid Do not go here or to any green king pub they are terrible and customer service is a disgrace

Really nice food excellent service, I had no cash so couldn’t tip as couldn’t tip via card which was a shame as it was deserved keisha was lovely and very welcoming all the way through our meal

Warm, clean, friendly and great food. Claire, Keisha and Kerry looked after us exceptionally well and will certainly be visiting again in the near future.

Great afternoon listening to an Elvis Trbute Singer including a two course Christmas Dinner, all for about £20 plus cost of drinks. Good value for the money spent. Food was cooked well and was a very generous plateful.

Beautiful old pub. Food was delicious with great vegetarian options. The experience was made perfect by the broad smiling super friendly Caroline who served us. There were even grumpy old geezers sitting on barrels watching football on TV. Perfect.

Food was great value for the portion sizes. Tasty and piping hot. I had the katsu curry, someone had the chicken and ham pie, another had the gammon and another had the fish and chips. All clear plates at the end!

This pub is the social focal point of the town. Excellent pub-grub and drinks served by Sam, Ollie and Curt, not forgetting Darren the chef, who is a terrific fella! Thoroughly recommended! :)

Me and my partner went out for lunch today we've eaten here before and its been nice but today was awful my partner had a beef roast dinner and I had cheese burger and chips the burgers wasn't cooked properly and the meal was luke warm and my partners roast was awful carrots not peeled or cooked all been warmed up in the microwave the meat was stringy just not a nice meal at all

Excellent service and a wonderfully relaxed atmospher. All Covid precautions followed. The greeter was very helpful in loading the app, explaining how to use it, then making sure all contact details were logged correctly. The food and wine were lush plus competitively priced, l can highly recommend the salmon salad. Everyone in the family cleared their plates and really enjoyed the food they ordered. Every member of the staff was helpful, friendly and our server Sam was an excellent waiter who could not have been more helpful. The blue light card give a 20% discount which is an added bonus.

Came here with friends as I had pre booked a table and enjoyed food whilst watching the champions league final.The place is big and I have been before, the staff wore makes and did tabel service as with many pubs there are a few wandering round with no makss in.I had a nice burger with pulled pork on it with a good portion size and reasonable prices for food with plenty of choice and the wait wasn't too long.I would eat here again and there are a few pubs and a train station nearby

This pub has the best precautions against Covid 19 that I have seen. They take your contact details on arrival and give you a suitably spaced table which is marked by staff after they have cleaned it. You have a choice of table service or a visit, one person at a time, to the bar. Menus are single use and the toilets are for one visitor at a time. The food was excellent. I had a lamb shank with potatoes and four other vegetables. My wife had s salmon salad. The salad was well assorted and the salmon steak was large. It was nice that we were asked before the food arrived if we wanted mint sauce, mayo etc as sometimes you can finish half the dish before these arrive. They were served in small pots but in a better portion than the little plastic sachets.

Popped in here for a drink prior to dinner. We sat outside and ordered drinks on the app as was sugested and it took 20 minutes to receive the drinks??

Recently refurbished and pleasant enough inside this Greene King pub offers reasonably priced food and drink in a family atmosphere. Good distancing measures, clean and tidy but not enough staff! Not sure if it was because it was Sunny or if it was the table service requirement but the few staff appeared to be working very hard. Outside is a different story - a lovely decked area and beyond a beer garden that could do with a bit of TLC. The kids didn't seem to mind - they were all over the playground equipment. The only reason we went here was the sun - this pub could be brilliant if the outside space were tidied up a bit . Maybe they've not started on the outside yet- who knows? Anyway San Miguel on draught was a consolation.

Great bar for the football ...really improved since the new manager has taken over... Good food at reasonable prices... Recently renovated to high standard which is a bonus....

I had not been here for a, while. Ibl came to watch the football with some friends. Drinks are served to your table and you can use a app to order drinks and food. They had a reasonable selection of real ale some of which was in bottles. Do a range of pub food. Good and pleasant service. Clean pub including the toilets. A positive experience. Okay pub to watch the football.

Sorry you need a new chef , food terrible never eat here again . Sent food back wasn’t helpful at all never again

Festive fisticuffs ! Nipped in ( god knows why ! ) Xmas eve to see the usual drug taking clientele amusing themselves with some traditional Yuletide violence .Why is this place still licenced ?

I visited the Romiley Arms ages ago and got good service, great food and a really interesting drink containing glitter! Visited again today and saw more unusual drinks offerings & revamped decor. I asked to sit in a window seat but to have the TV switched off, they were happy to oblige. I got a scratch card and won a free dessert! The main meal I had was very nice! Staff (Olly and Sam) were helpful and accommodating. I'll go again soon.

Looked forward to going to the pub after the ‘refit’ So happy to see Timothy Taylor Landlord as one of the bitters on draft. Oh my God. It looked flat when they poured it but it tasted terrible. I drank half but gave up and took it back to the two blokes. They couldn’t care less! So I ordered a pint of Speckeked Hen - same result. Flat and tasteless. Not only don’t they care about the customers but they don’t care about what they serve. I thought they had changed. Not a chance. Ps. Allowing kids in the pub with a football at 9.30 is not responsible

Came in for a drink and a bit of food. Not expensive so don’t expect Ramsey to be cooking but what we got was nothing short of garbage, barman didn’t have the balls to speak to chef. Waitress told me a Luke warm baked product was deep fried and the general manager was, as always, nowhere to be seen. Most of the staff are good. General manager has the easiest job as he seems to spend the majority of his time out of customer view probably laughing at greene king for paying him to do nowt. Shambles of a set up. Beers gone down hill too. Great youth club though.

This is the only pub that I know locally that puts on live football. It is not really my pub of choice. It is generally a loud pub populated by young people who seem to generally be loud. The beer was of a good standard the Old speckled Hen beer was a well kept and a good pint, and the person serving me was pleasant and efficient. They have a extensive menu of pub meals.Got very noisy with some people swearing every other word, even when children were pleasant.Okay for me to watch the football. Probably my least favourite pub in Romiley.

Refit to pub but not it’s lowlife clientele. Attracts scumbags from Brinnington and Gorton as well as local mouth breathers . Kicked off royally last Tuesday as a result of the all welcome approach to loser patrons and their drug taking / dealing

The place has had a very good makeover. I have always enjoyed a drink in here but the place looks stunning now. I would recommend a revisit if you haven’t been for a little while. They make people from all different backgrounds feel equally welcome. Decent place to be

Came in with my young child for early evening meal, good food excellent service as always. Friendly staff on the bar. Cooked my food to my liking as asked for when I ordered. New dress code in place I noticed well done to the management. Great Visit never leave disappointed thank you!

Came here at night with friends for a catch up and a bite to eat! All I can say is I was so pleased with the cleanliness of the pub and how polite the staff were I ordered the gammon and I'm not very keen on steak but it was so nice not to undercooked or over done. Just right..

I have been a customer at the Arms, on and off, for many years. Following the events in the last few months, I'm regretful to say it has lost its reputation locally as a family pub, and gained one as a youth club, where it is very obvious that drugs are an issue, with both punters and some members of staff. I have addressed Greene King privately, as I did not want to publicise issues, unfortunately it seems nothing has been done. In my opinion there is grave mismanagement in the establishment. I have been in my fair share of 'rough' pubs, but this seems to take the biscuit, I would hope someone would acknowledge customer concerns and maybe this pub would have a fighting chance at becoming the family friendly pub it once was.

OMG. Underage drinkers and drug dealing are the stand out points of this establishment. How they still have a licence is anyone’s guess. Service and food match the ambulance, we ambience. Avoid if you have any self respect

Came in here as it’s our local for some food with friends n kids, brilliant staff and very enjoyable food enjoyed all round! My lad who not 11 till July had the huge hunters chicken eaten the full lot! Will be definitely coming again thanks Debbie n staff

Visited this site will friends and family the site had a disco on and we were dancing and entertained all evening the other guests were all having a great time and the staff were lovely we would most definitely recommend this business to our friends to make a visit next time they are in Manchester

I booked the pub for my sisters baby shower. They were wonderful! Let us have the area at the bottom so no public could walk through, let us put decorations up and bring food. Lovely staff and had a wonderful time! Thankyou so much!

Visited on Saturday with a large group of friends, we were well catered for, well looked after and we couldn’t fault the staff of facilities! We were served by a lovely lady named Kat and she was fabulous. Thanks Kat!

I visited with my work colleagues on a Tuesday lunch to welcome a new member of staff to the team, to say it was an embarrassment is a vast understatement. We arrived around 12.35 on Tuesday 5th of March (7 of us) we all ordered a main course and a drink at the till paying separately but asking for the food to come together. We went and sat outside to wait, the first meal came out after around 20 minutes which is fine however what isn’t fine is each and every meal coming out separately 20 mins apart! So a team of 7 people on an hour lunch break couldn’t eat together as several people had to go back to the office as it was becoming ridiculous. The food was average at best! I do not expect to go for a pub lunch and have to wait 50 mins for a toasted sandwich! The excuse we were given was the new chef was learning the menu... if a chef hasn’t mastered a toasted sandwich I think you may have a problem! I sad disappointment!

This is probably my least favourite pub in Romiley. I usually go into watch the football. It is very noisy with lots of people shouting. Plenty of screens to watch the toofbtall. They ran out of real ale no hand pump beers, only bottles of Old Speckled Hen, although I suspect most customers would not care.
