Romeo's By The Sea in The Vale of Glamorgan

A charming and unique boutique Italian restaurant, Romeos is something of an icon on the Penarth esplanade. A good value and delicious lunch menu and a good selection of fine wines makes this a go to destination.

Always a great time at Romeo's. Make sure you try the Tiramisu.

Took my aunt to Romeo’s by the sea yesterday to celebrate her 99th birthday. Had a wonderful service from lovely staff. Fabio and his mum and a young lady went the extra mile to make aunts birthday a memorable experience. Food was delicious. Thank you so much all.

Went there for my sons 40th birthday celebration. There were 16 of us and we had a wonderful afternoon, the food was gorgeous. They seated us upstairs on a big square table which was great because everyone could see and talk to each other. The staff were wonderful and could not do enough for us. I highly recommend paying them a visit.

It’s our 25th wedding anniversary and we wanted a romantic meal with good food. We were a little bit early but they weren’t busy. Usual menu chat and we went for the Prosecco as it’s our 25th anniversary. Lovely window table. Not too busy. Had some sides as a starter and the olives were lovely. Garlic bread okay but not that special. A bit too much cheese. Risotto and spaghetti was lovely. But then we became invisible. No one checked if our food was okay. Watched other diners get served and table cleaned but not us. We finished our plates 20 minutes ago and were stretching out our overpriced Prosecco. Servers were seeing to other diners in our area but we were invisible still. Our plates were drying out now and half glass left each , this is spoiling our night! 40 minutes after our food was finished and sauces dried on our plate, our server realised no one had been to our table. Sorry sorry it’s my fault, yes it is. No offer of free anything or discount! Manager came over with a feeble excuse of ‘I saw you picking at the bread and olives( we weren’t!) so I thought you hadn’t finished’. Would you like to see the dessert menu? No thank you our taxi is here, can I have the bill? Came back with another sorry and a sharp lemon shot. ‘Hope this makes up for the delay’. No not really. Paid bill. Not offered anything. Left no tip. Someone shouted thank you as we left out the front! Really disappointed, will never go back! Sid’s just next door is much better service as we went there the day before! Romeo’s fell flat and lost us as customers!

A lovely restaurant, great location, fabulous service and exceptional food. We hadn't booked and it was full, so very popular. But they kindly sqeezed us in. Thanks all.

A really lovely family restaurant. Great location on Penarth’s seafront, this is a local favourite consistently delivering really good Italian food. The place feels dated and needs a lick of paint but the warmth of the service makes up for all of that. A gem of an independent restaurant

We had two lovely meals here at the weekend. Good variety, good portion sizes, tasty and good value for money. Service was polite & friendly too.

Romeos is a genuine Italian restaurant with fantastic food and staff. It feels a very family run business and I always come away content and looking forward to visiting again.

First time back in thirty years and not disappointed, food fantastic. Plus had a great view of Bristol channel

Great location, dinner with a sea view, our server was friendly and attentive, we enjoyed bruschetta and shared a pizza which was delicious and a bottle of wine. My only suggestion would be to upgrade the bread selection on the bruschetta.

The experience was okay, would go again since options are limited in that area.

Food wasn’t very good. Tuna was too dry and steak was chewy. For the price we paid it was a poor dining experience.

On a Sunny day, it's no different to sitting alongside the med. Food was great, well cooked and a nice selection.

Really enjoyed my meal here. The garlic bread alone is worth a 5 star review. We ate upstairs and had a great view of the sea and of the chef cooking our meals. Would go again if I'm in the area

Excellent professional service from very friendly, welcoming staff and the food was utterly superb. There were 11 of us and everyone remarked how tasty their food was. A truly memorable evening.

Outstanding food & brilliant service tonight, waiters are always so friendly and attentive, always guaranteed a lovely evening.

Very warm welcome to us and our dog. Service was great and they even made food for the dog. Pizza was lovely and so were the garlic mushrooms.

Starters were excellent - Brie Fritte and Polpette. Mains Lemon Sole and King Prawns in wine and cream sauce-first class. Deserts a fair variety available. Service was excellent and could not be faulted especially the guy- he was friendly and funny. Venue is superb and in the summer is wonderful outside. Highly recommend.

Good Italian/Med cooking incl. Pasta&Pizza. Curbside seating across Promenade Road with sea view available when weather permits. Inside sea & med decor (See Pics) Attentive service but slower when full. Advanced booking recommended. Stable performance with several visits.

Lovely food and service. All the starters and mains we had were really excellent. We had a mix of pizzas and pastas. Not to keen on the desserts (tiramisu and profiteroles). Great location

Disappointing lunch in chilly restaurant. Very little/boring choice for veggie. Aubergine parmigiana was basically a solid lump of rubber, frozen (base at least) pizza with little topping, cheap garlic bread. Pasta was much better but certainly priced on the high side for what it was. Staff were pleasant and friendly although we were told to get our order in or we’d be going home hungry! Lovely happy girl behind the bar. Nice and clean.

I had the lamb chops, which were a little overcooked and scrawny. To be fair, they had a very difficult job as it was a very large party of over 30 people. So getting everything bang on is not easy on timings for the chef. I will definitely go back again as the staff and atmosphere were great. I have no doubt that with sensible nos dining, everything would be spot on. 👌 👏

We had lunch at Romeo's recently. Really good food, great service at very reasonable prices. I had the spaghetti pescatore, which was delicious - loads of clams, mussels and juicy king prawns. Lovely!

We had a delicious lunch at Romeo's today. As soon as we saw the menu had specific vegan and dairy free options we knew we had to try it as it's so rare to have those at a traditional Italian restaurant. Every dish we had was perfect, and the staff were brilliant and friendly, nothing too much trouble for them even with being rushed off their feet. Wouldn't hesitate to go back if we're ever in the area again.

We only had a coffee but the staff were very friendly, service was very good, children and dog friendly , toilet available, level entrance, it has an eating area outside opposite the sea, parking near by. The food looked lovely. It closed at 3.30 and opened again at 5.30.

Sometimes the breakfast menu is sold out so we try to come early. The amount of food exceeded my expectation!

Visited Romeos on Tuesday 25th July for the lunch time menue , food was superb the service was superb the staff so friendly, recommend it to everyone.

Being Italian myself, I thought the meals would be the same, but they've adjusted the recipes to cater for British tastes which rather defeats the reason for going to an Italian restaurant in the first place, however, the staff were lovely and friendly and it's a superb location.

We had a lovely late lunch at Romeo’s by the sea. The food was traditional, fresh and so tasty. The staff were very welcoming and friendly! We were lucky enough to have a seat outside and beautiful sunshine, it was like being on holiday! Would highly recommend and will definitely return 😊 (My photos do not do the food justice)

Food was absolutely amazing - I had the lasagne and it was so delicious! My partner had the seafood pasta and said it was great. We both had 3 courses and enjoyed it all. Service was fab also. Have recommended to family and friends!

Okay, nothing special but not bad. But please stop serving mussels with chips, that’s a crime!

Maybe it was only a busy time in the kitchen, but to be honest the pizza was tasteless, you can do a better pizza in home with tortilla wrap, tomato sauce and cheese. My friends ordered mussels and vegan risotta. Unfortunately they did not like either. The view and chat with friends were good tho.

Very good food and service. Went on a Sunday with the wife, good welcome on entry. Had Melanzane Parmigiana, very good and spaghetti Cosa Nostra which was excellent. Pleasant atmosphere and table had great view of the shore.

Honestly, this place seems over-hyped and is way too expensive for what it is. The interior is tacky, the seafood is either overcooked or tastes weird, and the desserts are disappointing. The calamari in my spaghetti was rubbery and the tiramisu was over saturated and watery. I feel like it only gets away with being bad because it’s on the seafront and has barely any competition. Better to go to the fish and chip shop.

As always the food was excellent. Fresh produce cooked to order and the service is excellent. It is lovely to go into a restaurant and not be rushed. So many choices and nothing was too much bother. A great place for a special occasion Not our first visit and won't be our last.

Whilst my wife and I did thoroughly enjoy our visit, the food was very spicy and not the traditional Italian taste. The spice was very over powering and due to this would not return. The gluten free side of things, due to being a ceoliac, was also very limited. A creamy Italian gluten free pasta would have been brill.

Had an excellent 80th Birthday celebration dinner party last night. Party of 13 and all, including two vegetarians, were super impressed with meals. One grandson said pizza was ‘ Banging’.

I love this restaurant, it's intimate, the food is superb, family feel embraces Romeo By The Sea. I had filet de peche followed by a straightforward, delicious carbonara. Great wine list. Oh and it really is right by the sea.

Enjoyed a lunch here in autumn sunshine. Mrs. B liked the spaghetti pescatore, nice sized mussels. Lovely people running the restaurant.

Staff was great and very helpful. The garlic bread was delicious but carbonara I wouldn't recommend, unless you love black pepper because that was all I could taste.

Found this lovely little place by accident but what a find. Will definitely go again, every course was lush and so tasty and a great bottle of wine too. Really cute little restaurant in a beautiful location, nothing not to like, go yiu won't regret it a real taste of Italy outside of Italy. Really fab and lovely staff 😀

The owner (old blonde lady) is very rude and rushes you to eat… happened twice even when they weren’t busy. We’re never coming back ….

We recently had our wedding breakfast in Romeo's. We were only a small group. The whole experience was fantastic: from the start when discussing menus, dates and times , through the menu tasting and the food on the day. The owners were very flexible and accommodating. Front of the house as well as the kitchen team performed flawless on every level. The food served during the tasting was exactly the same as what was served on our wedding day. Everything was very well seasoned, perfectly cooked and we could taste the effort which had gone into the preparation and finishing of the meals. The atmosphere was relaxed and we were made feel at home. We can 100% recommend Romoe's by the sea. We will definitely be back.
