Was so very disappointed, after everything we had heard we were expecting great things. On arrival we were ignored and not acknowledged for 10 minutes. The venue is very attractive and well laid out, there is generally a positive ambience except the initial welcome. The food did not live up to expectations, all was bland and although we all had different dishes they all tasted the same, no chillies or spice in the meals . The place is quite pricey and sadly it was definitely not worth the money. Real shame

This new Indian GastroPub "Krishnas" is 5 Star. We could not fault it. Food portions are very generous. Each dish was authentic and very tasty. We enjoyed the Chettinand chicken curry, lamb rogan gosh, chicken tandoor and chicken tikka masala as mains, plus sag panner and chick pea masala as sides. Additionally the service is great and decor stylishly modern. Definitely a restaurant to return to. It is run by the same couple who ran the White Horse in Droxford. They clearly know the winning formula for an Indian Gastropub

Disappointed by the service on arrival. Other than a smile from the lady behind one area of the bar no one else acknowledged us. Not good my husband & I thought! I’d tried to book a table several times previously but hadn’t been successful. Booked a table over the phone on 27/9 for this evening to be told we don’t have a booking for you. No apology given but we could seat you in the snug around the bar area in about half an hour or so. We said no. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to eating at this Indian gastro pub for the first time. Sadly first impressions count! We managed to get a table at another local Indian restaurant though so all not lost 😁

I had a superb lunch with a friend today at The Roebuck. Its been recently taken over and is now a quality Indian restaurant. The wine list is very good and the food is excellent. You can absolutely tell it was freshly prepared. There will be many future visits so I can work through the great menu. We were told they are very busy, justifiably so, so booking would be a good idea.

What a lovely country establishment this is, a not so hidden gem, but a gem that deserves so much recognition. Situated on the A32 nr Wickham, massive car park and an impressive internal layout. The hosts, David & Barrie are so delightful, nothing is too much trouble, the staff are friendly, polite and attentive, a great team that make you feel so welcome. A super dog friendly pub, muddy paws always welcome 🐶🐾 We have returned many times after our first visit for a birthday meal last November, if you go home feeling hungry after eating here, you are in the minority!! We love our new “ local “ and we are sure you will too.

Visited here today, the staff are super friendly, we were seated quickly, the menu is really nice and very good value for money the portion sizes are really large almost to big, the food is fresh and locally sourced. I believe it's privately owned and not a chain. It's in a beautiful quiet location. I'm a parent of 4 and was pleased that there wasn't loads of noisy children with irritating tablets playing sounds. ( yes I really did say that lol ) it does have a children's menu. I can't wait to return.

We had a large family gathering, walk then Sunday lunch, and we chose the Roebuck Inn. Not the first time we have been here, but our first for Sunday lunch, and we were not disappointed. The service was first class, a bit slow, but they were very busy, with a few large families to bring food out for. The food was as good as the service, great food, well presented, and very tasty. The Landlord couldn't have been friendlier, and very accommodating for such a large number (10). It is nice to see a once failed Pub, come back to life with new hands on the tiller. We often visit, but we will visit more on Sundays from now on. Thank you to the Landlord, the amazing Chefs, and the wonderful front of house staff.

Recommended this pub by family for an overnight stay with my elderly mum. The landlords were very helpful and organised her a warm and toasty room on the ground floor, plenty of hot water and a comfortable bed. Our room likewise was great and no bother from traffic noise overnight. We had an excellent lunch that day and the pies and puds were delicious. Breakfast was also very good and cooked to order so piping hot. Will be back and maybe with the dog next time. Thank you.

Booked a meal here for four, and paid for it via Groupon. When we arrived to a virtually empty pub the lady there had no knowledge and said sit anywhere. Which we did, on a dirty table that wasn't laid up correctly. It was advertised a choice of 4 real ales, only 2 were available. No wine list, red or white wine! Then a grubby price of paper was given to us with the most basic of pub food on. When we asked for the a la carte menu was told that was all there was, come back Saturday when they were launching their new menu. Said they didn't deal with Groupon despite the offer still being advertised. Asked to see owner or talk to him and was told he was away at work!!!!!We decided in exasparation to order from the pub menu and the food was disgusting and inedible. The "scampi" particularly was pathetic. Then we were given a bill for over £100 with no apologies whatsoever. Now getting onto Groupon. My advice is go anywhere but here!!!

In all of my 38 years on this planet, nothing has come anywhere close to the atrocious meal I had to painfully endure with my family on Saturday. From cardboard-dry scampi and burnt sausages to defrosted beef patties and borderline-within-use-by-date pork chops, nothing was edible. Seriously. Nothing. To advertise yourselves as an upscale gastropub, highlighting fresh produce and a great level of detail involved in each dish, and then serve such garbage to your customers is nothing short of disgraceful. When I made my thoughts clear to the staff, the lady at the bar told me the menu ‘is in transition’ and what is presently on offer is ‘traditional pub food’ until the new menu is launched. To even call what we were served ‘food’ would be doing it a wholly undeserved courtesy. No apology was offered. With the staff you have in the kitchen you are galaxies apart from what you’re promising on your website. If you can’t cook a sausage correctly you’re in the wrong business.Spoke to the owner today who used phrases like, “nothing I can do” and “it is what it is”.That pretty much sums up the place.Don’t waste your money, there are several better options nearby.

To be fair, the kitchen was understaffed this day due to sickness, so service was very understandably slow. The staff that were there were very nice and doing their best. But the food was either weird (the smoked salmon had been poached in beetroot juice!) or very average. Sausages were overcooked, the scampi was like cardboard and the burger was just OK. The food was not cheap either for something that tasted like it has just been microwaved. I got the wrong kind of potatoes and even the bread was slow to arrive. Then they totally ran out of Guinness. Not much choice in the way of beer but the HSB is tolerable. WiFi is good though.

We stayed at the Roebuck Inn in Wickham on Friday 20/12/19. It was our wedding night. We live locally and had a low key but beautiful wedding. My husband wanted to book a local hotel and chose the Roebuck. On arrival, all happy, we had to wait 5 minutes or so to be welcomed. We were carrying bags so it was obvious we were staying the night. The WiFi wasn’t working so it took another 5-10 minutes trying to locate the booking. We were then shown to our room, having to go outside, down a dark wet alleyway, being told to be careful of puddles - still in our wedding attire I wasn’t too pleased. We were shown our room which was cold. I remarked about this to the lady who said the heatings on a timer and comes on when the “thingy” kicks in. We unpacked and then sat on the bed in our coats under the blanket trying to warm up. We decided to make the most of it and went back to the bar. Again taking an age to be served as the WiFi was slow. We were the only two in eating that night. The place was a mess having been explained to that there was a large Christmas party in earlier and they’d made the mess. Shame no-one had thought to clear it up. There was rubbish in bags, large cardboard against a wall, a crate of clean glasses alongside the bar, a clear trip hazard. When we finally got a drink we went to a table near a radiator thinking it was on and would be warm, it wasn’t. Obviously on the same timer as the one in our room. We were given a menu but our table reservation that we’d been advised to make wasn’t until 8 so we had a couple more drinks. Deciding that there was absolutely no atmosphere, cold and tired after a long day, we ordered food. This was excellent. When we retired to our room around 8.45 we noticed in the bathroom that the shower dispenser on the wall apparently had come unstuck and lay attend on the floor of the shower. Oh and the room was still cold. Not wanting to make a fuss and ruin what had been a fabulous wedding day, we decided to keep warm by getting into bed. The heating finally came on around 9.30-10pm then the room started to warm up. We slept fairly well apart from lots of noise, other residents or staff continually opening and closing doors. We had luke warm showers, packed and went for breakfast. Walking back into the restaurant, we were welcomed with a hello. Not shown to a table so sat down ourselves and offered tea or coffee and given a menu. Not once did anyone ask if our stay was enjoyable - or how our room was. We ordered the full English breakfast choice, which was lovely. When we finished and left, we found the staff to say thank you to and left. I would say the Roebuck Inn is a lifeless, soul less place where the staff need customer service training and the WiFi needs to be sorted.

I arrived tired and ready for a beer and a shower. I said to the Bar Staff I had a reservation for the night. Before I said anything else the Lady behind the bar said “Ah, Mr Gilbert - we’ve upgraded you” - I hadn’t given my name so that was impressive. I was taken to a well appointed room - nice bed, clean, great shower and well stocked tea and coffee (so often on my travels it’s “one of everything - two of nothing”)Several options on the menu were off but there was still a good choice and not unreasonable to not have everything available on a wet winter Tuesday night. I chose the special - Gammon, Egg and Chips - a great decision, one of the best I had. Beer was well kept too. I was told upfront what was and was not available - that was the best PR they could have done My only regret was an early start the next day - I would have had time to eat breakfast but not time to enjoy it. This is a journey I expect to make on a regular basis visiting a new client. As far as a bed, a beer and a meal are concerned I won’t be looking anywhere else - maybe next time I’ll make sure I have time for breakfast.

Firstly the good points: recently refurbished bar and dining area lend a modern twist, whilst retaining some features, such as a log burner. Young staff a credit. Polite, efficient and friendly. Food was excellent - well prepared and presented. Variety of choice for both evening meal and breakfasts, which were served piping hot. Large bedroom, with fridge, again recently refurbished. Fresh towels on 2nd day, even though neither necessary nor required. The niggles: very busy main road directly outside. Extremely steep, windy staircase to accommodation accessed via an outside door around side of building. Definitely a problem if mobility is an issue and in event of fire. Radiator cover not attached to wall, so kept toppling over. No shelves, or hooks, in bathroom for toiletries or clothing. Had to move dressing table stool into bathroom instead. Light above bathroom mirror not working. As this was the only mirror (apart from tiny cosmetic one) this was problematic. Tea/coffee not topped up in bedroom, neither were toilet rolls. Dog friendly. Whilst this can certainly be a bonus as good walks nearby, owners need to be actively encouraged to remove all evidence of their pet, especially anything left directly outside the front door! As dog owners ourselves we know that this is not an arduous task and easily achievable to ensure that everyone enjoys their break. We would return to the area, as well placed to explore nearby and probably call in for a meal. If the niggles were addressed, this place would earn more stars.

We stayed at the roebuck with our friends for two nights at the end of September/ beginning of October. On arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant both days and cannot fault the food there was just so much of it which is not a criticism The breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and the young girl that served us both mornings was absolutely brilliant nothing was too much trouble, she definitely needs a mention. Our rooms were clean there was just a few things that needed attention. The light above the mirrors in each bathroom didn’t work which made the bathroom quite dark.we brought this to the attention of one of the staff who said they would look into this.Apart from a small makeup mirror in the room there was no other mirror which is definitely needed. We had a cover on our radiator which was not fixed to the wall and if a drink was placed on this it could easily fall off which would be a big problem if it was a hot drink, this fell off the wall many times . This was also brought to the attention of one of staff. On the second morning of our stay a member of staff knocked our door to ask if we needed ourTea and coffee topped up. As we hadn’t used any I said no it was fine but were disappointed to come back after our day out to find that the rooms were left unmade and not even the bins had been emptied. Finally the road was so noisy with traffic which made it really difficult to sleep, I think the ear plugs by the bed were a big giveaway. We are used to living in a cul de sac so found this hard to cope with it was for us like sleeping on the hard shoulder of the M25.For this reason we would not stay at the roebuck again but we thank you for positive aspects of our stay.

My wife and I have enjoyed a number of good meals at the Roebuck over the past year, and being nearby, have made it more or less our pub diner of choice. Last week a couple of friends and I had a meal mid-week. The restaurant was not busy; just two other diners. We had to move to a different part of the restaurant because of the other diners' screeching, which stopped us from having any kind of sensible conversation. We ordered, and asked for bread an olives, with our drinks. After 15 minutes, we asked again if we could have our bread and olives. It took yet another 15 minutes for them to arrive and then another half to three quarters of an hour after that for our mains. We asked for the intrusive techno music to be turned down, and it was, but just by the tiniest amount. On a visit with another couple two weeks earlier, we needed to give two reminders to have our drinks ordered. Eventually, because my wife and I were buying the meal as a thankyou for the other couple and, embarrassed by the lack of drinks, I went to the bar to find out where our drinks had got to. No-one there, but a manager (Georgia?) was sat at the table next to the bar typing into a laptop. She asked if I was alright, and I told her we were short of our drinks. What did she do? Carried on typing. Absolutely no attempt to get the drinks or to find a member of staff. And this is one of the two problems. A "manager" or the owner (supposedly) sits at the table near the bar, looking at a laptop showing no interest whatsoever in the customers and does not even engage with them. The message he or she is giving is quite clear: you are not important. The other problem is noise. These rooms bounce noise around and it's made worse by intrusive music, selected, it seems, to suit the tastes of the manager or the bar staff, but not with the customers in mind. How about some fabric or other sound-deadening hangings on the walls? And cut the music! It's a shame. This was a very good place to eat once, but not any more, and it's only because the people who manage it have, it seems, stopped caring.

Roebuck doesn't do consistency. Today's meal was a good pie and really poor veg. Carrots were old, kale was under cooked, parsnip was disgusting. All with the accompaniment of very loud fire alarms. We've had good food at the Roebuck when we were regulars but when standards dropped, we went elsewhere. Today's experience says nothing much has improved.

My family and friends visited this pub, they are part of a Folk music camp which is held in different locations each year. They have never been to this pub before and do not have a relationship with the pub and have never rehearsed there. They are simply a group of folk enthusiasts who are on holiday. As part of the tradition of folk music they like to visit a local pub and play tradition musical, (free of charge to the pub) and eat and drink while they are there. They always call ahead and agree that the pub are happy for them to do this. (most pubs bite their hands off, free traditional music and a large group of customers who would like to drink and eat in their pub.) I can only assume that the manager who has responded to the other reviews was not there as the response given seems to be completely inaccurate about a local group who regularly rehearses there? Or was it to mislead the readers about the true events....?

We were camping with friends, and one of us rang ahead to check it would be OK to visit during the beer festival and play folk music in the garden at lunchtime. There were about 30 of us. The pub was given an estimate of numbers the evening before, and who wanted to eat what. We wouldn't have gone there had we been told that we couldn't play music in the garden; it was the whole point of going. Was it a clever ploy to get us there? We should have realised that was probably the case when we arrived and there was very loud piped music blaring from a speaker. Instead we paid our money, ordered and paid for drinks and food. But when it came to asking if the music could be turned off so we could play (fiddles, melodeons, guitars, that sort of thing) no, the chap behind the barbecue wouldn't do that. He flatly refused; in fact it seemed as if after we asked, very politely, that it got louder. So we all got up and left and went to somewhere that appreciated our custom. What a strange way to run a pub!

Had a fantastic lunch here yesterday, high quality ingredients, well cooked, and beatufully presented with well balanced seasoning. Really could not fault the food. Good range of drinks from the most humble ales and ciders to prestigious champagnes and a great selection of Gins. Polite, efficient and attentive service from knowledgeable and friendly staff. Highly recommended for any occasion!!

This pub nestled in the heart of the moon valley right beside the old railway line. A perfect place to walk and enjoy some fine English cuisine. Russ the chef is a fabulous cook and the food is delicious. I have enjoyed an evening dinner here and a less formal pub lunch and recently went to the beer festival. I am not a beer drinker but there was plenty of gin on offer to keep me happy. The decor and the garden is lovely and I’m looking forward to going again. Well worth a visit. Plenty of parking and plenty of choice on the menu.

This could be a fantastic venue, but somehow...it lacks something? Decent selection of drinks, but the place is totally geared towards food. Almost every table to the front, is preset for diners.Very nice decor, friendly staff, but again...a restaurant that allows dogs...NOT ideal for us non dog, lovers. On my visit today, out of 5 tables...3 had their mutts sitting beside them...on the floor, not on seating.Free WiFi, free car parking, garden area with plenty of seating. Be aware that although the A32 road is signed for 50mph...the average speed appears to be closer to 65-70mph and faster if it's the motorbike brigade, who use it for the Triumph showrooms and garage...100m away from The Roebuck.

We held our reception at the Roebuck. The staff were friendly and professional, the food was amazing - from canopies to sweet it was all beautifully cooked and so tasty. I provided decorations, and they did them for us and made the place look festive and pretty. We used the decking area and one room. The building is lovely anyway if you're visiting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our friends stayed in the rooms which have been renovated and they said the rooms were very lovely. We've eaten there many times and they cater for food intolerances and allergies well. I am gluten free and this is never a problem. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It is dog friendly and opens at 7am for breakfast and stays open for coffee, lunch and dinner.

We went to the Roebuck early evening having bought a Groupon voucher. Unfortunately the menu offered is completely different to the one shown on their website and is not much more than standard pub fare. When I questioned this our waiter said they no longer serve that menu! Nevertheless the food we had was quite good but in my opinion overpriced, and our Groupon deal wasn’t much of one.

We live near the Roebuck and used to visit a couple of times a month. Our last 2 visits, however, have been very disappointing. The food seems way over-priced compared to local competitors and the service was borderline chaotic. On the second occasion a number of boxes and cables were left strewn in the garden creating an obstacle course. The food is fine but not good enough to justify the price.

We called into the Roebuck for a lunch. We where just passing and decided to stop. Ample car parking, large beer garden and quite a nice place. We had a sandwich each, a beer and soft drink, A bit too much lettuce on mine but nice enough. The staff where nice and polite, the pub was nice and clean considering it has wooden floors.Just put off by the ridiculous price of the items, stupidly we didn’t take a lot of notice to the prices before ordering but shocked at the £26 bill.We would probably pop in for a drink as the selection of ales is good,; my pint was lovely, but never for food.

Having visited this place after a country walk we were expecting a lunch menu with maybe some light bites and sandwiches. This is an absolute joke, very minimal menu and the prices were ridiculously high. Who in this world is prepared to pay £12 for a sandwich even though it came with chips and the choice of filling was limited. Girl behind the bar was pleasant but this doesn't warrant them charging high end prices in what is basically a small pub n country road. No wonder there were only a maximum of 8 people all the time we were there. We definitely won't be calling in there again and advise others not to bother.

Booked in February for a 2 night stay whilst festivaling in Wickham. Payment taken 5 days ago only to be informed the day of our stay that roebuck has cancelled our booking due to over booking! They clearly have been offered moreMoney because of the festival and they don’t give a damn about honouring a previous booking I presume at a cheaper price. I’m mortified and am left stranded at a festival with literally no where to stay.

Stopped in on a whim last night and enjoyed a light dinner. Great service from the young lad, even when they had some larger parties to attend to (and slightly noisy!), the only disappointment was the price, I really fancied the Greek Salad but couldn’t justify paying that price for a salad but enjoyed what I had.

Would not come back here again, staff were rude and arguing amongst themselves at who ‘had’ to serve our table but loudly enough for us to hear which is awful, the pub wasn't even busy which made the fact the service was horrendous even worse. Clearly very poorly run with management that clearly didn’t care.

I stayed here this week for one night. Initial thoughts on the room were good, nice and large with a decent size bathroom. On closer inspection I noticed the carpet was filthy and in desperate need of a clean. Good powerful shower but the real issues were during the night. It’s located on a very busy main road so be aware there is a lot of traffic noise all night long which isn’t good if you are looking for a good nights sleep. The windows are very old so don’t block out any noise. The bed was one of the worst I’ve slept in. I could feel the springs pressing in my back, new mattress definately needed. There was also a bright green light near the door so even with all the lights off it illuminated the whole room. Was literally like trying to sleep with the lights on. A complimentary breakfast is left in the room which was spot on. Cornflakes, fresh milk and fruit and orange juice etc. Such a shame as with a bit of care this could be a really good place.

After fond memories of excellent meals and convivial atmosphere in the past, we were disappointed with our Sunday lunch for eight today. Frozen roast potatoes were like bullets and sugar snap peas inedible. Roast beef was in slabs and lacked the flavour or texture you would expect for a £15 lunch. Huge plates, but not much edible food on them. We left a large proportion of our food, and not because portions were large....it just wasn’t properly cooked. After insisting, we did get 20% off our bill. Did not stay for any of the £6.50 puds. Between 12.30 and 2pm today the place was largely empty. That says it all. It needs bringing back up to scratch before we will go back.

On the whole we really enjoyed our stay, the room on the top floor was quite large very hot - no fault of the pub!! But extremely noisy due to the busy road we discovered a motorbike shop just up the road which could account for the roaring of bikes at all times. We were left ear plugs in our room a nice touch but still a shame. Also I think it would be a good idea for the managers to stay in all of the rooms from time to time , our mattress was very noisy with old springs pinging !! And not everso comfortable definitely not a premier inn bed ! And finally the green light by the door ... well I had to put my leggings over it to stop the illumination from it as it was too bright - health and safety over kill I think. Continental breakfast was already in the fridge - was ok nothing special. Won’t go back to stay as over all too noisy. But a cute room.

Popped in for lunch as we were passing by. Have eaten here before and found the food to be lovely, home cooked. Served by a very polite lady. The beer was good for my husband. We ordered food and as usual we were told it would take a little while as everything was cooked fresh. When the food arrived it looked good, chicken burger and Monk fish which I was looking forward to as I hadn’t had it before. Unfortunately the chicken was very dry (no way was it fresh), the monkfish was very good but the white asparagus was watery and tasteless and the French beans were rubbery. Overall disappointing

Had not visited this pub for many years and found little change in decor. Xmas decorations were way over the top making the ambience claustrophobic.Service was good but food distinctly average. Venison and turkey meals ok. Duck was reported by friends as tough. It was not served sliced making it difficult to cut at the table. Several of us had under cooked roast potatoes. Other veg was cooked well. How can a 'chef' not know how to cook basic food! At £21.95 this was disappointing.

Well what can I say that is nice, I walked in and there was nobody behind the bar and had to wait just to ask a question. Then we went into the garden as we had dogs with us and the grass needed cutting and all the trees and bushes, all very over grown. The in side of the pub is not much better with trinkets all over the place very over crowded. Then the food arrived with condiments, food looked ok nothing special for the price. The tray it arrived on was broken in more than one place and was dirty, then we went to use the salt and pepper and the pepper wouldn't come out, we thought it was blocked so took the top off to find it full of mould. This was disgusting I took it back in and was just given a black pepper instead and the man said sorry. I went back outside but this had really put me off my meal. My family ate some of theirs, I spoke to the man when I went back in as we were going and said I wasn't happy he said. You couldn't see it before. I stated this wasn't good practice and that it had put me off the meal, he walked away and I got no response. Terrible customer service and I would never recommend this awful place to any one. The only recommendation I have is to go else where.

Slightly off the beaten track but well worth the detour, you need a car really to get there but good free parking onsite. The restaurant was fairly quiet for a Friday night so we got a nice table in a window alcove. The meal is varied and our food was very good. I would recommend

Lovely food here. Went today been going for years. For some reason the entrance we always go in had a barrier in the way. Had it not been for a customer interrupting his lunch and telling us the entrance was further down. We would have left and probably never returned. A lesson learned hopefully.

As usual, the staff were lovely, as was the coffee. Unfortunately though, the shop is in desperate need of a fly zapper! As every time I’ve visited lately there have been so many flies! I really enjoy going to the shop, but lately all the flies have made me think twice, which is such a shame.
