Fisherman's Rest in Fareham

Amazing night at the Fisherman's Rest food was very good and service was excellent, a nice country pub with a good menu and friendly staff

Asked manager/owner what time they were going to serve evening meals to to gauge if we needed to place an order quickly. Told that they would close the kitchen when they wanted to - not a friendly reply. Food was poor to average in quality. Mixed grill had poor quality meat. Scampi was low quality and served with 10 chips. Scampi and chips was the size you would give to a child. Decided that next time the slightly extra distance to walk and a little more cost but better quality food and friendliness that the Mill or the Wheatsheef would be getting out custom.

We booked really late in the late afternoon but they managed to find us a table for the six of us. The people who served us were simply at the top of their game, engaging, attentive, professional and focussed on our needs. They were just brilliant, if only all restaurant workers were as attentive and fantastic. The ordering was really good, a couple of things were off the menu but this was clearly explained to us. The food came promptly and drinks were managed well. This was, to me , like role model dinner service and I couldn’t ask or wish for more. Oh yeah, and the food was lovely.

The food was excellent, but unfortunately the staff don't seem to be trained in hygiene as our waitress was happily stroking dogs then taking people's orders to them without washing her hands in between. Unfortunately, we didn't see this until after eating, or we would have left before eating. Such a shame, as the chef is obviously excellent in the way he had cooked our order. Car park was totally full too (though a sunny Saturday early afternoon, so not really surprising).

Booked for a family meal . And was seated when we got there for.5.30 on a saturday. Ordered our meals.and was told.sorry no mixed grills , 3 of us wanted this. So were sat looking over menu she then says a few other dishes unavailable. Not what we would order so was ok. Decided on a burger. Wasnt what i wanted but didnt fancy anything else Other 2 ordered steak and chips. And hubby pie and chips. As a side we ordered pork belly and a jacket. Then got told pork.belly.unavailable also. So basicly nothing i ordered was available. To top it off when the food came out the steak wasnt cooked how.it was asked for . Also they put jacket with the steak instead of a side. So we.had to ask.for chips that were meant to be with the steak. Also we ordered an extra pepercorn sauce . That also didnt turn up. So one of us sat there for anothet 15 mins with no food as they took.it away to just add.chips. Service was.appaling. By this time wr haf had enough been there nearly an hour and one if us has bo food . So when they did finaly bring it out we said we didnt want the food it wasnt cooked properly and they had messed up our order. I said i wasnt happy paying for anything as we hadnt drunk our drinks .She said they had been busy i said we booked a table.and as you no you are going to be busy you should cater for this and we are customers who dont want to no that you havent ordered enough food in. I said i wasnt being horrible but i shouldnt be given excuses that they have been busy . Our evening was ruined and we left hungry

Visit every week or so, food is always good, would recommend the pork belly bites off the special menu

Decided to go here as been b4, @ it was cosy warm homely @ fire was roaring!!! But unfortunately this time a very different matter . Very stingey with fire wood. Fire hardly going plus smoking. Customers eating with their jackets on . Manager did nothing except stand around. Found 2 poo bags .1 next 2 their brick wall other in car park . As i there a group left as they weren't happy for some reason. What a shame won't b going back again.

Nice local pub a little off the beaten track and away from any large built up housing. Reasonable parking area to the rear and a beer garden. Opposite the remains of Titchfield Abbey and a garden centre.

Love the pub, However was told they were understaffed (again). Requested a portion of chips for outside which was refused, I offered to wait inside, take them out myself and bring back the plate/cutlery myself. Told not acceptable. What is happening to customer service? No wonder pubs are shutting.

BEST EVER shepherd's pie. It was to die for. Utterly delicious. Service very good. One of my favourite pubs. I love it in summer when I can sit outside and I love the cosy winter feel too. There is always a fire going.

I treated my son and husband to dinner out. We haven't been there as a family before. It was wonderful. Our meals were cooked to perfection and we will most definitely be going back. Amy assisted us taking our order, making sure we had everything we needed and was generally so friendly. Amy made sure our son had everything he needed, listening carefully to his order and engaging with him. rhis meant alot to us. Excellent customer service and Amy is most definitely one of the reasons we will return. A massive thank you!!

Delightful setting by the river. Friendly meet and greet on arrival. Orders taken quickly, but we were missing a starter....lots of apologies. As a big foodie, I requested my beef to be a rare as possible on our Sunday lunches. Food was delivered quickly, however two of the three dishes were far from hot and the beef was very well done and rather tough. Nice variety of veg, albeit I suspect frozen, but lashings of roast potatoes and lovely yorkshire pudding, extra gravy was provided when requested. Fish and chips were very good. Desserts were brought through quickly and were hot were needed.

Had a wonderful evening at the fisherman's restaurant, Russ and his team always look after us , nothing IS ever a problem they always make a fuss of our dog bob , the food is good and beer is well kept

We enjoy coming here being local to the area and always have a good experience. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food never disappoints.

My family came here for an lunchtime Sunday Roast and it was great, friendly staff, nice food and good service. We were especially impressed with the kids food. The only downside was the turn around time from finishing lunch to pudding could have been better. I can highly recommend this place, we'll definitely be back.

This is a Greene king pub. It's not the best food I've ever had. More cheap and cheerful. Staff friendly and attentive.

We popped in for lunch, we hadn't prebooked but they welcomed us with open arms. We found it very good value so sat and ate, OMG the food was delicious. Myself my partner and two children are very satisfied with full bellies for a really good price. Superb service by all the very friendly staff!

Good selection of beers and warm atmosphere

We have been to the Fisherman’s Rest a number of times and been very impressed with the service. The staff there, all seem to have a great attitude towards the guests. The food is great pub lunch stuff! Nice atmosphere too. Our most recent visit was on Christmas Day. Despite having to work on Christmas Day, the staff were very attentive and the food was great! I would have no hesitation in recommending the Fisherman’s Rest to anyone. We’ll be back soon.

Very friendly for a lone diner. Fast service, very tasty roast. Car park a little tricky to manoeuvre in when full but not impossible. Pub is directly opposite Titchfield Abbey - a ruin but worth a visit.

This was such a lovely pub, the service and waitresses were very helpful. Food was incredible but was also nice simple food, drinks were offered as soon as seated. Totally reccomend for casual and occasions!

Me and my Nan came here for a birthday meal. It was so nice, 10 outta 10 nice pub, food came quickly and the portion sizes are great. The food was delicious and our sever was amazing and friendly aswell. Definitely recommend this and we will be returning in the near future.

Isolated but perfectly British pub restaurant. A caring staff, an atmosphere worthy of an English series. Delicious meat dishes cooked to perfection. In short, brilliant!!

We visit most weeks for dinner, great atmosphere and menu. Russ, Gareth and the team are always very welcoming and friendly. Prices very reasonable and accept blue light card which is an added bonus. We tried the festive menu this evening and it didnt disappoint.

Lovely old fashioned pub opposite Titchfield Abbey and right by a river. The food as usual was beautiful. The service great and with the fire being lit the atmosphere was winter warming. Lovely lunchtime meal with my daughter. Oh and the Cider is so tasty. Has a beer garden right by the river. Well worth a visit. Had the gammon today December 2024. Food was delicious as usual. Well worth a visit.

Great food and people in an old world pub

Really didn't feel welcome although we went there to book a wake for 50 people we decided not to and have found a more friendly venue.

Had our Christmas meal here for 8 of us. The food was excellent and must rate as the biggest Xmas dinner I have ever had. The staff were very friendly and brought out extra gravy and cranberry sauce when asked. We would certainly dine here again. Lovely evening complete with crackers.

An attractive looking place but such a disappointing meal. Over cooked Salmon, flavourless hard, tasteless veg. Greasy roast spuds and a sauce that I suppose was meant to be a hollandaise. On the plus side the table service was pleasant. Out of a party of 5 and 4 separate meals, only one felt that their meal was adequate. We did complain and were told that we would not be charged for our puddings. This was a set 2 course meal for £25. Unfortunately only the cheesecake was edible from our selection of 3 different desserts. Lemon tart was still frozen and chocolate fondant came with a sauce that had an unpleasant after taste. Not really sure what went wrong. None of the meals were difficult to cook. I definitely expect to have a treat when I go out for a meal. The poor quality of food did spoil our get together. I would not recommend.

Food really good roast dinner for grandkids was huge the wife and I had an afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday which was exceptional and would recommend to anyone just book 4 days in advance

Lovely little pub which is part of the Greene King chain. Unfortunately the food portions were very small and we are not big eaters! The 2 fishcakes came with some rocket underneath and a poached egg..... and that was it for £13. Disappointing that chips or a bigger salad were not included.

Small pub/restaurant by a river, the clue is in the name! Varied menu with many tempting choices at reasonable cost. Food arrived quickly via Nicky who turned a meal into an occasion. Recommended without reservation but best to make a reservation !!

My partner and I took my daughter out for lunch the food was amazing the service was faultless will definitely going back there again. The chef Senna food is so flavoursome and very delicious.

We came in just for a drink on a Sunday afternoon, and was greeted with warmth and friendly hospitality. We had two children (4 yrs and almost 2yrs) and a dog with us. The dog received royal treatment and for a tiny £1.50 got her own burger - not like other places where we’ve been. The dog’s burger was cooked to order! The kids just had some chips and pudding but the value for money was excellent!! The brownie that came with the kids pudding our eyes couldn’t believe it! We ended up having the burger deal (like I said we’d originally just come for drinks) but the deal was too good to miss! The food fantastic, and very full bellies. As a young family normally dinners out are stressful and loud, whereas here it was calm and peaceful. All the staff have been a pleasure to deal with and I very much look forward to coming back!

My husband and I had a lovely meal . .we had the award winning pie 🥧 was very good... That day they didn't have broccoli but did tell us at the time and we were offered carrots ... didn't have room for dessert. The staff were excellent and check to see if our food was OK and if there was anything else we want .. they do have a excellent garden with tables.

19th September 2024 we saw a new menu advertised, so popped in the sad thing is chicken in a basket has gone, so we had katsu curry instead which was really good, staff were as good as always however Russ looked a little stressed think new menu teething problems were getting to him. June 2024 garden packed and pub full service a little slow but worth the wait, this is one of our favourite pubs March 2024, free beer when it rains, wow my husband loved his IPA the service was impeccable as always and the food was good. 2024 Jan great lunch at the fish, we really enjoyed the beef and ale pie with mash and veg, Gareth was welcoming and the service was good. 2022 Been using the fish for years just keeps getting better, love sitting in the garden in the summer, cold drink, hot food great environment. original review First day back in the pub, we have dined in the garden over the last 2 weeks and that was nice, but cold, today we booked for lunch and thank you Boris we were allowed to sit inside doors and windows open to let fresh air in but still warmer and drier than outside, staff all wearing masks but you could see in there eyes they were happy to be back to some sort of normality. food and drinks were all excellent but they always are here, Thank you for making our day special;-)

Popped in with no reservation after a dog walk. They were very friendly and helpful. The pub is well decorated and comfortable. The turkey roast was amazing.

This is one of our favourite pubs I'm so glad we can start using it again now Ryan has gone, he got me pregnant then ghosted me, anyway baby and mumma are doing fine, and we're back at our favourite pub

Nice pub friendly staff good food. Biggest let down I was charged £1.95 for a splash of orange in a spirit. EXTORTION One could buy a whole carton in the supermarket for less.

We were having a small family reunion after years of not seeing cousins. This was the perfect place for that. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and really good food. Nobody rushed us off the table even though it got busier, which was really good. Definitely recommend the fish & chips!

My wife and i took our dog to fishermans rest for dinner a few days ago. Its our 3rd visit, its rapidly becoming a favourite for us. easy parking, dog friendly, great food and drinks, lovely service, cant fault it. thanks for looking after us. GH

Took family here for a long needed get together booked for early evening, was promptly shown to table and left with menus and waiter soon returned to take drinks order. All staff were pleasent and attentive. After being told of all the things that weren't available and there was a lot! the food order was placed to then be told two of the things on that order were now also not available, food was delivered in reasonable time for a busy sunday evening, but then further dissapointement when 4 of the 6 meals (all steak) were inedible (even the dog refused the steak). All were overcooked and really tough. Issue was mentioned to waitress who was very apologetic and offered replacements or refund as the other two good meals were now almost complete we decided to take the refund. I cannot fault the pub, the location or the waiting staff, but the quality of the food was very poor. We have eaten here before and the food was lovely so prepared to accept this was just a bad/busy day for the kitchen staff.

Sadly I wasn't advised of the change to my dush. I wouldn't have ordered Salmon with broccoli. The salmon skin was burnt black. Hidden with a sauce so sadly my first taste was just of burn. Initially offered a replacement meal but as a table of 4 thus wasn't appropriate. Some time later offered peas ...nit my choice much too late. An appropriate response should have been a reduction in the bill as this was 100% the fault of the restaurant. The server for not saying anything about the change in the menu and taking so long. The chef fir burning the food and then covering up the burn so that I actually bit into it and was in a position to spit out thus disgusting food. And being out with family visiting from Australia didn't feel able to complain robustly. Though my sister stated my face said it all. Just can't believe a restaurant wouldn't make any attempt to make restitution. Loved this restaurant and had this dish before never had it burnt or incorrectly served. Went on Saturday lunchtime on the off chance. We were welcomed by staff and given the choice to sit inside or out. The food was really lovely and presented well. We sat outside in a sunny spot with a really nice relaxing atmosphere.

Popped in for a "Progress Meeting", service was prompt and accurate. Plenty of seating inside and out. TBH couldn't have asked for a better place to be served promptly and left along to get on with it.

Yes nice atmosphere good service by good staff. Pity but 25% of food not up to standard Pity but won't be rushing back to green king pub.

My husband and I decided to try for Sunday lunch I had the turkey roast, he had steak, food was ok, my only disappointment was there was no sausagemeat stuffing or pigs in blankets as advertised on the menu we were not told on ordering, my meat tasted processed. The packet stuffing very hard. Otherwise nice veg. Husbands steak was good, bit tight on side bits one onion ring lol. Desserts were OK, mini pud and coffee was good value. £60 spent. Service was friendly, we were asked 3 times if the food was OK!!

Sausage mash and peas not good. Peas still tasted frozen. No taste to sausages. Gravy thin. My partner had hamburger 🍔 and said it was nice.

Nothing wrong with the food, but the entire experience of "hospitality" was destroyed by the old, blonde woman behind the bar, who ensured that neither I nor any member of my family would ever eat or drink at this pub again. In planning a large family gathering, the Fishermans Rest is now excluded from any further consideration. Not a future penny will be spent there. The old woman behind the bar's appalling attitude is a liability to this place. Why bother spending your money here when there are far more welcoming places more deserving of your custom?

Booked a table for 2 with my boyfriend and we both had starters and then a roast. All the food was lovely and the service from the staff were very friendly and chatty, will definitely be back

Food was bad quality. Been eating here for years and was always good. Roast beef was more gristle that meat. Roast potatoes where soggy. Vegetables bland no flavour. Chicken pie had no flavour. Vegetables no flavour.
