I really have to question reviews around MH. Pretty surprised this doesn’t have higher ratings!! Been here a few times over the last few years. Went as a couple then went as a trio with our fairly newborn. Service has always been attentive and warm towards us. Food was well made and to our taste. Happy all round that we tend to hold This place much higher than a few other places around.

First time here, visited as a birthday meal for my wife. Ambience was perfect, small , intimate, but didn’t feel claustrophobic. service was excellent and very friendly. Food was beautifully prepared and presented. If you’re a gannet, like me, the portions and on the smaller side. We had the seafood stew as a main and it was delicious. Deserts were ok, although my rum and raisin terrine had just be shown the bottle. £95 for 3 courses and drinks. There is parking on the street outside and a car park within a very short walk, which is free after 6.00pm. Will return here.

Excellent espresso martinis. However, rather than the set menu, I ordered the very dear surf and turf. The lobster was excellent, but the steak £38 was poor quality -- flavour and texture. It was mentioned to the waiting staff, who didn't act other than 'we'll let the kitchen know', when in actualy fact, I would've expected the manager to speak to me and/or some money off the bill. I left with buyer's remorse as I overpaid for substandard quality.

We’ve visited Rocksalt a number of times since we’ve lived in Market Harborough. However tonight’s visit was the first time in a while (Jan 2024). We all enjoyed our meal, however we were disappointed with a few aspects, including the very small side dish of seasonal vegetables, not really enough for even one portion. Also the triple cooked chips that arrived with the steak were undercooked, I can’t imagine these had really been ‘triple cooked’ which was such a shame. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and a great asset to the restaurant. Overall it was a nice meal and I’m sure we will in time be visiting again in the future.

Menu has only one vegetarian option, no vegan options and there was no non-dairy milk options for coffees and teas. Obviously as a 'seafood and grill' place it's never going to be first choice for veggies but it makes it harder for large groups with mixed diets if there's few options - other restaurants are much more accommodating. If you're vegan/veggie and part of a group looking for a place to eat, you should veto this place.

Special occasion dinner. Service good. Mains were very good but desserts a let down. Rum and raisin terrine was a slab of something vaguely chocolatey and missing the stated honeycomb. Returned it to kitchen. Ice creams lacked flavour. Did get the terrine and drinks costs written off. Will stick to savoury dishes in the future here.

Lovely interior, although if you struggle with stairs you should request a ground floor table. Slightly aggressive air con, but the staff did adjust it for us. Fabulous selection of fish and sea food, steaks, and one or two vegetarian options. I couldn't see anything vegan. Food was tasty and clearly prepared with love. I had a risotto that was nice and creamy. Service was good but occasionally slow. It was pretty popular for a mid week evening, so booking is advised.

The starters and main course were exceptional. The deserts require a little fine tuning. After a quiet start the atmosphere was loud and boisterous led in no small part by a lady with her back to the front wall who was laughing like a gatling gun. Perhaps a little too much preloading. The service was attentive, polite, professional and friendly.

We'd been meaning to try this place for a long time, after 'finding' it on a long-distance shopping trip, a few years ago. Anyway, we finally got there to try it out. As it was early doors, few were in, and we were shown to an upstairs table by the friendly guy at the door, and given a few minutes to peruse the drinks list. We subsequently ordered drinks (2 very nice glasses of wine) and the food together. There was a jug of water already on the table. Our starters being spicy calamari, and scallops. I was assured the scallops were very good, but the calamari - ironically given it was 'spicy', was severely under-seasoned. I added salt - twice, to get some flavour. The tempura batter around it was good though. Mains was a ribeye, and seabass. While the seabass was meaty, it was also under-seasoned. The ribeye was overcooked for the 'medium' i had requested. And while far from inedible, wasn't the best i'd had by a long way. It also required some salt to get the best out of it, as did the 'triple-cooked' chips. Which i'd question were actually thrice done - as they were not crispy at all. (we didnt try deserts, as the portions were ample to fill us by this point). None of the food was 'bad', or merited complaining about, it just want as good as we were hoping. The restaurant in general was fine - as the service was prompt and efficient, even if the interior was lacking a bit of warmth. Though it had gained more diners by the time we left, which created at least some buzz. Would i go back - probably, as it was far from 'dire', and to see if our experience this time was a blip. But i wouldn't make a special 55 mile round trip to do it.

My wife and I had lunch there on a whim during a Grand Tour of Market Harborough's charity shops. We loved it! The chef doesn't seem to subscribe to the popular trend for diet-sized servings and minimally subtle flavours, and an hour later our mouths were still full of the fantastic taste of the sauce (garlic, samphire, wine) that accompanied the langoustine starter, and the rich tangy cheese and lobster risotto. We had a table on our own upstairs (hence the reduced atmosphere rating) but the service was attentive, efficient and friendly, despite the extra stair climbing required of the host/waiter. The lunch deal (£22 for two courses) meant that it was not overly expensive, and was great value anyway. To be hugely recommended.

Went there for an evening meal as a party of 4. We'd heard that it was very good. Even though the restaurant wasn't full, because there's not a lot of soft furnishings to help absorb sound, there was a lot of background noise making it difficult to even hear what your partner across the table was saying! My wife ordered the sea bass which she said was lovely, though a little overcooked. I ordered the 28 day aged 14oz rib eye steak cooked medium/rare which incurred a £14 supplement together with a green peppercorn sauce. Firstly, I was surprised at the size of the steak. It certainly didn't look like the uncooked weight would have started at 14oz and looked quite thin. Secondly, when I cut (or should I say hacked) into the steak it was as tough as anything suggesting it wasn't a 28 day aged piece of meat. Thirdly it wasn't very hot (perhaps because it had been left to rest?), Finally it was overcooked and came out medium / well done. The green peppercorn sauce was thin and watery and not at all creamy. Overall, I was very disappointed with the meal - particularly given the cost of c.£85 for one starter, one Prosecco, one beer, and two main courses (one with the £14 supplement). Needless to say, we won't be going back!

Awful customer service. Food ain't great either. 3 of us dined on a Friday evening. We booked a table for 6pm as soon as they opened for evening service. A couple beat us through the door and were sat in a corner downstairs. Then we were seated by ourselves upstairs! Our table seated 4 but was set for 2. The waiter brought us menus and said he'd get us more cutlery but never did, so we had to eventually take our own from the waiters station by the stairs. The table was greasy and there was food on the floor under the table from lunchtime which we had to ask to be cleared before we all had squashed broccoli all over the soles of our shoes. It's a fixed price menu. We ordered 3x two course meals. 2x starter and main, and one main and desert. Starters arrived, calamari and moules mariniere. Both were pretty 'meh!", The mussels the better of the two. Decent portions of both but they were both luke warm at best. Worrying when it's seafood! Mains arrived. 10oz sirloin steak, 16oz cote de boeuf and pan fried seabass fillet. Both steaks luke warm at best. The seabass hot but everything with it....luke warm....except the soggy broccoli which was stone cold. We called a waiter to complain who in turm fetched the manager. I would expect at this point for an offer to take the steaks away and bring fresh (hot) ones. Not here! We were asked if we wanted them taken away and reheated! What?! They were supposed to be cooked medium, but were more medium to well done anyway, so we most definitely didn't want them cooking more. The sirloin was so tough, my partner couldn't eat it and had to leave most of it, so we ended up sharing the larger cote de boeuf between us which also had a LOT of sinew through it, thoroughly disappointing when the steaks come at additional cost, £8 extra for sirloin and £16 for the cote de boeuf on top of the fixed price. The plates were collected when we'd finished the mains and we were gingerly asked if everything was ok. We pointed out that my partner had hardly eaten any of her meal because the steak was terrible, and the mushroom was incredibly salty, so all she had eaten was her chips and the roasted tomatoes on the side. We also pointed out that I only got half a steak as I'd had to share it. We expected the whole price of the sirloin to be taken off of the bill but all they would offer was to take the £8 supplement off. The third member of our party ordered a lemon tart for desert which was ok but not special and it took forever to come to the table. Worth mentioning also that the table next to us were also complaining. Amazingly, they were there because they had a terrible time in the past and had been promised some sort of discount if they returned, but the restaurant was "having difficulty remembering" having ever made the offer! I am sure the management will come back at this review with some form of scorn as they are want to do, evidenced following other poor reviews here and elsewhere. This IS a truthful review, and we will certainly not be returning here.

Don’t waste your time or money!! We always have a weekend away for my sisters birthday, we dined at RockSalt and had a lovely meal. We wanted to do the same this year for a special birthday lunch for my sister and family. It's a shame that Rocksalt has dropped its standards. The food used to be lovely and now it's average at best, felt so overpriced. The service seemed so unorganised, the management team very rude, waited a long time for the food to come out and when it did it was very disappointing. Kept having to ask staff for cutlery, asked for some vinegar for a fish and chip dinner and could not believe the state of the bottle, asked for another and was the same! So disappointed, it used to be such a nice restaurant. The management staff would not take our comments on board and actually argued that all other customers that day had not complained. Offered 10% off, £20.00 ahead food. Will never go back, and never have written a review but felt the need for other customers.

It’s hard to know where to start this review, so long it may technically be more of a saga… In brief, with 3 months notice, we booked a table in Rock Salt for 18 people. Deposit paid. As with all things modern, the group included allergies and dietary requirements – hardly a revelation for a restaurant. So, emails and phone calls before the booking took place. Answers ranged from misspelt emails “it will be OK” to verbal confirmation to “just order when you’re here”. Eventually, upon constant checking to make sure some party members could eat, we were asked to pre order using the online form. This was done, as requested, with some omissions as there was still no answer regarding some dishes and allergies. Cut to the time of the booking, and it transpired exactly as anyone without any total lack of surprise would of imagined. The two waiting staff seemed totally disinterested, not even taking drinks orders. Without restaurants ability to use a pen and paper, a guests confirmation self made list was used to order food. After the restaurant asked and checked the same questions for over 30 minutes, the chef emerged purely to roll his eyes at the waitress. “It’s not my fault” she said loudly into the air, as he sloped back off into the kitchen. Now 90 minutes after entering the restaurant, bread, olives and drinks arrived, much to the relief of children who were now besides themselves with hunger. Yes, the order was slightly wrong and after asking for 30 minutes for another bread, none appeared. A senior looking waiter ( purely due to perceived age ), who had been hanging around was careful to avoid all eye contact and disappeared upstairs. At this point, the staff changed shift. After overhearing them relay the order once again – by this time I’d stopped counting – the meal slowly began to come together. This was SOLELY down to one young waitress ( sadly, I didn’t ask her name – long wavy brown hair ) who had the ability to take charge of the situation and organise Rock Salt. Without her, Rock Salt was nothing more than a game of herding cats. Meals then started to arrive. All but one came at the same time, and the delay for the last was only a few minutes. Of course, there was some hasty reordering “I’m sorry – the chicken delivery has failed to turn up today, so that’s off the menu now.” Yeah… Food was great, a little on the expensive side, but good. From this point, the wheels were back on the bus – again, thanks to the ( shift change ) waitress alone. With everything calm, and the cash register printing the receipt, other members of staff started to reappear now the whole show was finished. Yes, I left a tip on the condition it was solely for the waitress who saved the day. Although the chef certainly is a great cook, I suspect he started his shift two hours after we arrived. By my maths, three and a half hours for a pre ordered three course meal. Yes, it’s all cooked fresh to order, but that doesn’t excuse the 90 minute wait for bread… In summary; good food, restaurant has close to zero organisation and the staff are ( aside from one waitress ) happy just to stare into space with the look dogs who has been shown a card trick. Would recommend the food, shame about everything else.

Been here a few times, lovely food. Last night, however, a waitress decided to have a wobbly, she threw a big jar of water in the air saturating the tables, floor and myself at the same time screaming her head off swearing and then went on to smashing the jar shattering glass absolutely everywhere. One lady was crying, another, pregnant woman sat there in shock, she left with her husband. Only one waitress was actually concerned asking if anyone was hurt and going around cleaning up. My wife helped out to console others in the aftermath, yet the manager said absolutely nothing!! Not an apology or anything. Nothing!! On top of that we gave them a £30 voucher yet they still took the full amount off our card. I said that there was no way they could've missed that voucher because I put it on the top of our bank card and the bill but when it was brought back over to our table the voucher wasn't with it all. I said that will take 5 days to get the £30 back into our bank so I suggest you give us £30 cash which they did. In hindsight I wish we had left when the food had arrived. Total nightmare and a night ruined. The manager needs to give an apology big time. They won't be seeing us there again.

This place isn’t as good as it used to be. The food was good as always, but the service really has gone down hill. The waitress didn’t know the difference between the steaks on the menu or any of the ingredients. She forgot to bring drinks, cutlery and when she brought the bill she didn’t return for us to actually pay it so we had to ask again. We ordered a certain cocktail only for us to be told 20 minutes after ordering, that they don’t do this drink. Why did this take so long? We ended up drinkless for the first 30 minutes of our visit!! The heating was on too high, there was an accident in the kitchen where smoke was billowing into the restaurant and whilst paying the bill, the Manager blamed us for the smoke because of the steaks we had ordered! (I think it was a joke but it wasn’t funny) In summary, the food is still very good but I think the entire front of house team either needs replacing or training. They just don’t know what they’re doing.

We went as a party of 4. Good atmosphere and great service. I had the ham terrine to start, which was lovely, as was the lemon posset for dessert. For the main I had the rib eye steak (at an £8 supplement). The chips were excellent, but the quality of the steak itself was very out of place. Very thin and lacking any real flavour, it was a great disappointment. Especially considering my partner's lamb shank was significantly nicer and included in the base price. Recommended on the whole, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the risk of going anywhere near a steak.

Lovely food and good service. Staff were all very friendly. Not the cheapest night out in Harborough, but certainly worth paying the extra for. We look forward to returning.

Wow. Long time seafood lover, first time here.....it won't be the last The food is outstanding. Been a long time since I've had a three course meal where the quality across courses is so consistent. Cooked to perfection, great service, lovely place. Like Arnie, I'll be back!

Overpriced and overcooked. Bread was burnt, 2 sets of scallops were burnt, steak was medium-well instead of medium rare, and a lobster tail (£20 extra whilst a whole lobster is only £12 extra 🤔) was dry and overcooked. This place has gone downhill. Avoid.

We had a really good lunch here, service was good (you need to get the dry humour of the waiter), food was presented well. I had Ox Cheek which was as good as I've had, the sea bass was enjoyed as was the fish pie. Calamari starter was fresh and lightly cooked and a nice bottle of picpoul de pinet was good value. Definitely one to go back to

Very poor. Waitress didn't know the ingredients of dishes and wrote our order on the back of her hand. No evidence of covid awareness. Men serving food wore dirty jeans and shirt and the main course which was turkey and Christmas trimmings. The turkey tasted frozen as was the Yorkshire pudding and all barely warm. Very poor indeed. Will not go back.

Had an average evening with family at rocksalt, 2 of my sister's required gluten free calamari, and were very disappointed to find that instead of using gluten free ingredients for the calamari, they just removed all ingredients containing gluten, which, while meaning there was no gluten in the dish, meant that they were served squid rings. If they were warned prior to this it would be acceptable but for an establishment of this high regard to not have gluten free options is disappointing to say the least. Other than this the food was good, but this theme continued for other gluten free dishes on the menu. It was also slightly unusual to be given crackers in mid-november when celebrating a birthday! Seems slightly premature to me, or perhaps I am just a scrooge. Overall an average evening.

Our family booked an area in The Castle Inn for a wake. We opted for several platters (from a very good selection), a tea and coffee station and some drinks. We were able to drop some flowers and photographs into the restaurant on the evening before the funeral and area was laid out beautifully. The food was delicious and many of us plan to return and eat at the restaurant. Ewalina was particularly helpful and professional. The setting of The Castle Inn, with the views over the countryside and lots of parking was ideal. Plus people travelling from further afield were able to stay in their rooms. We couldn't fault a thing.

I live on a narrowboat it's like my local I take friends and family there for meals and the staff are very capable and efficient iff it's busy. They worked very hard to keep it going during lockdown and provided take out lunchtime meals and drinks we were and still are always welcome. And we behaved dogs are welcome. Always warm in the winter and plenty of outside seating in the nice weather.
