This is a great place in an elevated position away from the main gorge road but with great views of the rocks, lake and passers by. Really friendly staff Roger, Charles, Charlie & Mary who are all great, happy to chat, make recommendations and point you in the right direction for a great day out. They also have electric bikes for hire which would be a great way to view the gorge itself. We haven’t tried yet but have seen them in action! We came twice during the weekend. It was lovely sitting on the patio in the sunshine and the very attractive covered garden was great today in the rain. Dog was very welcome and water bowl provided on request. Coffee is great and was served in lovely insulated mugs which kept it nice and hot. I really recommend the yoghurt flapjack which was awesome. My wife chose salted caramel brownie both times and swears it is amazing! Great for couples, families, dogs and cyclists alike! And coffee lovers!

Location is lovely and garden looks nice however, service started with a sexist comment, and didn't get better. Waited 25 mins for sandwich and a salad, with fillings clearly store bought! I was distusted that all food was served on disposable plate and bowl, including coffee, which we were lucky enough not to try! In todays world, creating that level of waste due to laziness in unacceptable! As a local, I will not be revisiting and would not recommend to tourists! Plenty of other great places to eat in cheddar! If you want to survive, you need to up your game dramatically!

We arrived after a long walk up the gorge. I had seen it early on and it looked beautiful so decided we would head there for cake and tea after the walk. We arrived about 1530 and was informed the main kitchen was closed, which wasn't a problem. We asked if the cakes were still available and we're told they were. We went to order, a young lady served at the till, she didn't say hello, no smile, nothing and was very curt. We sat and our order arrived again the same young lady and a young man, all on paper plates and take away cups. Was told one was lemon cake and cream tea I said that's over that side please and then then she said "and there's the other one" and dropped the tray onto the table and walked away. They came back out one minute later and started to take the umbrellas away. They were clearly closing. I was so disappointed in this cafe. On the way back to the car we passed numerous other cafes, people laughing and looking relaxed, I really wish I had spent my money in one of them. Its a shame really as the food was very nice but I would not visit again and wouldn't recommend to anyone else either.

Firstly the cafe and its garden are really nice, the setting is great overlooking the Cheddar Yeo. The menu is a little odd, in that it was in several separate parts taped to the wall, but each to their own there. The food was overpriced for what it was, a poor imitation ploughmans served on paper plates, not what you expect when you're paying for a sitdown lunch. The plougmans was underwhelming and was served with an off pickled onion (so pickled it took the definition of pickled to the extreme), with the it resembling a school canteen ploughmans rather than a cafe ploughmans. For the location and price, the food just didn't match. Staff were however friendly.

As a local family we had eaten there a fair bit last year. Each time this year we had been back it was closed. Today we stopped in as was open and I say no more. We ordered 2 pizzas and hummus. We got 1 pizza and waited about half an hour then asked where the other one was to be told that we had the equivalent of 2 pizzas as it was a large one! I ordered extra toppings and didn’t get those either. Appalling service, people walking out left, right and centre. Some people had paid for their food and walked out as said they had waited nearly an hour and still hadn’t got their food. Won’t go back again as over paid anyway for food we didn’t get and nobody seemed to know what they were doing. Shame as we enjoyed it last year and I wouldn’t ever leave a bad review but it was quite unbelievable.

Sorry but we were very disappointed. Baguette with chicken and cheese - very little chicken and very little cheese with a minuscule salad. As Cafe owners ourselves were expecting a lot more. All youngsters serving with no ‘get up and go’. Apart from the young lady who served us was pleasant and helpful. Wasps in abundance (which couldn’t be helped) but perhaps the close proximity of the rubbish bins didn’t help !!

Hate leaving a bad review but honestly one of the worst experiences. The place was infested with wasps so spent a lot of time escaping these. No vegan meal options, which is fine not everyone caters. I therefore ordered bread and hummus, and olives. My partner ordered pizza. 45 minutes later the pizza finally arrives, my bread, hummus and olives did not. Confirmed it was on it's way, yes of course. My boyfriend then heads in after another wait to confirm again, yes its on its way. Still didn't arrive so went and got a refund and left. The manager was lovely and apologised and refunded my cup of tea too, which was nice. But honestly, almost an hour for bread, hummus and olives that never arrived, what on earth. My friends also only had half of their order arrive because one of their pizzas was messed up. After waiting an age they also went and got a refund, to find the staff chilling out and eating the messed up pizza.

This place looks amazing and in a great location. The menu is simple (breads and pizzas basically) so you wouldn’t think much could go wrong. However the service was shocking. 3 adults and 2 kids eating, 1 persons food came out after a fairly long wait, then another 10 minutes later, still 2 kids and and an adult waiting for food. 20 minutes later the rest of the food arrived. The pizza tasted lovely but was luke warm, the chicken and cheddar baguette was ok. It wasn’t just us, everyone else was having the same issues and people were turning away on hearing people’s grumbles. Hopefully they’ll sort the staffing out as it could be very nice.

We specifically planned to stop at Rockface after hiking Cheddar's Gorge today (Tuesday). It was open as we walked by to begin our walk, and someone else referenced it being open as they passed earlier. We got back, ready to check it out, only to see that it had closed. The attached picture was taken at 3:22pm, showing openings hours of 10 - 4 yet also confirming the place was closed. As we stood outside, around 6 people seemed also surprised and disappointed to see it was closed, seemingly having planned to return there, too. Having mulled it over, I feel that any business that is so unreliable as to show itself as closed during its opening hours can only be awarded 1 star as it shows contempt for people who planned their day around visiting.

They are also green stocking drinks only in glass bottles, cardboard straws and glasses made from corn starch. The coffee is excellent and the cakes looked good although after the generous lunches we didn’t try them. We visited this cafe/restaurant on a busy hot Saturday. All 6 adults and 7 children were immediately made welcome. The owners hospitality was commendable, with very friendly staff. The food tasted amazing, was fast to come out, of excellent quality and very reasonably priced.

We arrived at cheddar gorge on a hot day and found solace at rockface, friendly greeting, nice setting and lovely food, all served by the team with a smile and good banter. 3 adults and 2 kids were catered for quickly and efficiently and we left feeling very satisfied with our eating experience. All that was missing was seeing the goats but we did catch a glimpse later driving up and out of the gorge!.

Although it's in the middle of the Cheddar Gorge and the inevitable "touristy" gift shops & tea rooms this was a little oasis of calm serving fabulous food with great service and open comfortable seating. A real gem not to be missed!

Popped in on the way down the gorge , with a disabled mother and two dogs , the ploughman's we had was the best around and value for money, there was plenty of room for the scooter and dogs ,with water Bowles and spray hoses readily available, the owners and staff very friendly and helpful , well recommended.

Visited for some lunch after going to cheddar caves. We both had the ploughman’s which was amazing followed by an ice cream. The staff went above and beyond to make sure you had everything you needed, food was generous and extremely tasty. Cannot write in words how amazing this little cafe is. If you’re close to cheddar it’s 100% worth a visit.

Stopped here for a coffee on the way down the gorge. We were served top quality coffee and locally sourced cakes by friendly staff. The guy that served us kindly offered to fill up our water bottles before we set off on our bikes.

During the week this is quite a quiet contemporary cafe with pleasant views. Has a bit of a Scandinavian feel to it. Staff were very pleasant.

Came here after visiting the caves; really nice spot for lunch! Pizza was seriously excellent and extremely fresh; and I’ve had some good pizza back home in LA, but this place nails it! Scones were homemade and definitely some of the best we’ve ever had. Lovely scenery, ambiance, and great outdoor seating, and service was really pleasant and friendly. Can’t believe they’ve only been open for about 2 months

We are local and have visited a few times now. The pizza, cake, ice cream and coffee are excellent. They are on a mission to be ethical and affordable and are very family and dog friendly. The Rockface is in a lovely location as well. Charlie the owner and all the staff are great with the customers and nothing is too much effort. I highly recommend.

We visited today for lunch. Received a warm welcome from staff on arrival who told us about the menu and instructions for ordering. Baguettes with rustic rolls and lovely fillings , made to order pizza, ploughman’s lunch and afternoon tea. All sounded lovely.

This modern cafe, set back from the main road behind the waterway, is a smart location for a well deserved cuppa. The new covered garden seating puts you amongst an array of Mediterranean inspired plants that in time will be superb. The host/owner was working the tables during the bank holiday and was exceptionally welcoming. Well worth a stop.

After walking down the west side of Cheddar Gorge from Velvet Bottom, this was an oasis. Very attentive staff and proper ice cream. Having refuelled we set off back up the east side. Seriously, this is just the perfect place to take a short break when out walking in outstanding countryside.

The best place for lunch in Cheddar. We had cheeses with all different sides see picture served for 4 people. The food was delicious. Additionally it's great to see such environment conscious place. For the first time I saw "plastic" cups that were made not from plastic but plants.

Made a mistake with the order so requested the order be changed, the food had not even started to be prepared but told by the (very miserable) server Amy that it’s too late the order has gone through, asked to speak to the manger (Ashleigh) to be told ‘it’s your fault for not reading the menu properly’ and the order can’t be changed, zero customer service skills for a so called manger and the worst customer service I have ever experienced, clearly not trained to deal with and appease any sort of complaint from a paying customer, the manager Ashleigh even felt the need to call security which is beyond belief when simply trying to cancel an order and reorder (despite the appalling customer service), basically ruined a weekend family break at Haven Burnham on Sea!

This restaurant is under new management and after happily visiting regularly for a couple of years I can honestly say it is awful now! Please bring back the former manager/chef!! The food is either served raw (poached egg on toast) cold, completely over cooked and tastes like everything is cooked in vinegar. As a party of 10 our food was brought out over a 45 minute period which would have been acceptable during busy periods but we were the only customers in at the time. Unfortunately if I could have given a zero score I would have done.. we attempted to give them a last chance today but after yet another diabolical meal we will not be returning. There are far nicer restaurants in the town.
