Called in on the way home and bought fish and chips. Superb, fish cooked while you wait and piping hot chips. Superb. Will definitely start using this outlet more.

Había estado una vez antes, me atendieron de inmediato. La comida estaba bien, sólo patatas fritas estándar.Sin embargo, visité esta noche y tuve una experiencia realmente mala.Había una cola afuera, así que me uní a la cola. Otro cliente me dijo que entrara y ordenara primero, así que entré, pero el personal me dijo que esperara afuera, así que salí y me uní a la cola. Después de esperar unos 20 minutos, otro cliente me informó que se suponía que debía hacer el pedido adentro primero y luego unirme a la cola. Tampoco tengo idea de por qué los tiempos de espera son tan largos. La comida definitivamente no vale la pena esperar, solo comida promedio de la tienda de chips con un mal servicio y una mala actitud.

This should be your only place to get your fish and chips fix in Cardiff. They have a range of grub on offer, all of which is stunning! They work their arses off when it’s busy and still deliver quality food! Highly recommend!

Lovely surprise and loved their chips, bought fishcake and pasties for the family. Lovely food and service. definitely going back.

We went on a Friday night and they had run out of fish (!) so we had scampi which was soggy and tasted strangely chemically - a bit like washing up liquid. The chips were also quite soggy and under seasoned. I wouldn't go back.

Locally I think these chips cannot be beaten . Lovely crispy fish , sausages are good , nice portion sizes , cardboard box not polystyrene which is nice so you don’t have to feel so bad- and of really course really friendly staff running the place that might be busy but a smile and a chat goes a long way ! Glad to have you so close. Come here around once a month and always good ! Keep it up !

Unfortunately a hit and miss situation with the chips, fish cake nice enough. First time was lovely, tasty, well cooked and fresh, the other times uncooked, tasteless and greasy.

Rock and malt is a great chippy. The portion sizes are quite amazing, and fairly priced. Will definitely be back soon.

Pedí una comida para mi familia y quedé completamente impresionado con la calidad de la comida. Todo estaba recién preparado, incluso las patatas fritas, y el pescado estaba lleno de sabor. Parece que usan ingredientes de calidad y realmente puedes sentir la diferencia. Toda la familia estuvo de acuerdo en que no hay un sabor grasiento que se obtiene de otras tiendas de chips. ¡Estamos muy contentos de vivir tan cerca, ya que definitivamente los usaremos más a menudo!

Siempre comí pescado el Viernes Santo, es una tradición que aún sigo, los amigos nos recomendaron la roca y la malta, así que decidimos intentarlo. Llegamos a eso de las 12. 30 hora del almuerzo.Tenía el bacalao y las papas fritas que mi esposo entró en la tienda mientras yo me quedaba en el auto. Esperaba un pescado fresco y encantador, pero en casa desenvolvía mi comida, que decepción. El bacalao era muy delgado y estaba muy seco. La mayor parte era comestible, ya que se pegaba a la masa y se quemaba, solo se podían comer los trozos medios y estaban secos. Si hubiera vivido lo suficientemente cerca, los habría devuelto. . Esta será nuestra última visita.

Delicioso.Llamé por teléfono en mi orden:Abadejo grande y papas fritas, grandes guisantes y un pastel de pescado.Tiempo de espera 45 minutos. Soy paciente, hambriento y con ganas.En la colección, al ver una breve vista de mi pescado envuelto en la tienda, estoy un poco preocupado y lo compruebo preguntando "es un gran pescado y papas fritas, ¿no es así?" Él confirmó que era.En casa desenvuelvo mi comida para llevar, mis preocupaciones están confirmadas, el pez se ve pequeño, triste y flácido.Me siento aún más triste cuando veo dentro de la capa un poco parcheada de (pronto voy a probar) de color beige, la mezcla suave, mi abadejo de media pinta tiene su piel puesta.No he tenido eglefino de una tienda de chips muchas veces antes y ciertamente y afortunadamente no con su piel antes.Llamo a Rock y Malt para decirles que me decepcionó un poco esto.El hombre procede a decirme que "todos aquí saben que su abadejo viene con su piel puesta" (Me hice una nota para hacer un par de llamadas a amigos más tarde, para ver si sabían sobre este tema de la piel de abadejo).Habiendo comido aquí solo dos veces y ninguna vez un abadejo, "¿cómo podría saber eso"? Procedo. . .Él dice que yo podría haber pedido que se quede sin piel.Muy tarde ahora.Ojalá me hubiera informado de la opción antes en el teléfono.Si me hubieran dado esta opción, la habría pedido.Pero seguramente "no todos en el área local pueden saber que el eglefino de roca y malta viene con su piel puesta"? !Él habla sobre mí ligeramente acaloradamente y se siente un poco grosero. Repite que "todos los que están por aquí saben esto", pero yo no soy "todos" y, de todos modos, estoy pensando ¿qué tiene eso que ver con el precio del pescado?Pero no se lo digo al hombre, por si acaso no le parece gracioso.Esto está empezando a convertirse en un frente de bacalao y lo último que quiero es un golpeteo verbal de un chippy.Así que colgué el teléfono.Bacalao 1 - Haddock Nil..

called in here after working in area and saw lot people going in so thought would give it try only wanted large sausage chips i know its cardiff but was over priced from many places i have been and quality wasnt great wont be returning

Teníamos hambre después de ver el rugby y queríamos un lugar donde pudiéramos comer algo rápido antes de beber. Nos topamos con este lugar y había bastante cola afuera y ahora sabemos por qué. Las patatas fritas eran tan buenas y mi novio tenía la salchicha maltratada que también dijo que era increíble.

Encontré a este chippie por accidente esta noche cuando estaba manejando en busca de F&C; después de visitar a un amigo en el Hospital Llandough. Era todo lo que podría haber esperado y más. El enorme trozo de bacalao se cocinaba fresco y era simplemente excelente. Las patatas fritas también estaban calientes y deliciosas. Me hubiera gustado haber probado los guisantes blandos, pero comer todo en el auto (no mientras me apresuro a conducir) lo hizo poco práctico. Esta fue una verdadera experiencia de 5 * y los chicos que cocinan y sirven deben ser felicitados. GRACIAS CHICOS - volveré la próxima vez que esté en el área.

Paré aquí anoche con la esperanza de comer pescado y papas fritas en mi camino a casa, ¡qué experiencia tan terrible! Solo un pequeño lugar y tres personas frente a mí, por lo que no esperaba esperar 40 minutos. Después de este tiempo, otras personas vinieron y fueron atendidas de inmediato y yo pregunté esto, solo para que me dijeran que habían hecho un pedido anticipado. El propietario (supongo) se ofendió por esto y le dijo al joven que me devolviera el dinero y que me fuera y nunca más volviera. No dejé ninguna discusión. Es solo un chippie pequeño pero creo que necesitan tener más personal, mucho más organizado y mucho más centrado en el cliente. El propietario (supongo) obviamente no pudo con la situación, pero esa no es razón para sacarla del cliente que paga. 40 minutos de espera y todavía no hay comida lejos de un buen servicio. Ninguna crítica de estrellas debido al tiempo que esperé, el servicio y, por supuesto, no pude probar la comida, todo el punto del ejercicio. Oh, yo y yo encontramos otro chippie cerca y lo servimos de inmediato, que refrescante.

My go to place for fish and chips, they’re always consistently good. I’d recommend the fish supper - but eat on an empty stomach as it’s a big portion!

Una visita a R & M es siempre un placer. Del personal atento, siempre limpia las freidoras. El pescado, el bacalao o el eglefino se cocinan a pedido, y una porción estándar de patatas fritas es suficiente para compartir. También conocido por sus 3 versiones de salsa de curry, este "chippy" no lo olvidará.

I love this chip shop, the food is always hot and fresh, the batter is so crispy,, and the chips are chunky,,, would love to have butter on my chip butty though,,, PLEASE PUT BUTTER ON THE ROLLS!

Llámame un Yorkshire de mal humor pero cuando voy a t'chip 'oyl quiero un armario caliente lleno de pescado y patatas fritas. Tal vez estoy pasado de moda, pero cuando tienes que pedir TODOS los platos de pescado de forma individual, dejándote con una espera de 7 a 10 minutos, es para llevar, no una tienda de chips. Las porciones de eglefino son mediocres, los guisantes de menta son exuberantes, los precios un poco molestos, pero ese es Pontcanna para ti.

Yo era el único cliente cuando pedí a las 19:00 una noche de sábado. Fue impresionante que preparaban el bacalao recién, pero una espera de quince minutos sin advertencia era un poco demasiado. El gran bacalao y patatas fritas fue una parte enorme y las patatas fácilmente han alimentado dos, sin embargo la calidad era claramente de la media.

Poisson frais, de belles portions, un régal. Preuve de la qualité de nombreux services de livraison à domicile sont venus récupérer leurs commandes le temps que nous attendions.

Cardiff es bendecida con algunos peces muy buenos y tiendas chip y este establecimiento no es una excepción - la mayoría del tiempo.

Los niños hacen un chips que son geniales para los niños. Los peces también son fabulosas picaduras aunque el nuggets de pollo son normales. Las tartas son tan obviamente clarkes genial. El cordero de medio y medio es mi curry top recomendación. Camino mucho mejor que parece por el precio.

Sólo se vive a la vuelta de la esquina y un día estos chicos vienen en el barrio con pescado y patatas fritas! increíble Me quedé totalmente satisfecho con el personal y la comida y realmente lo recomiendo ir!

The food here is pretty delicious, but on more than one occasion the female member of staff has been incredibly rude, which is seriously offputting. Most likely won't bother visiting again.

This is our favourite fish and chip shop, the standard fish, chips, sausage etc are all very, very good, plus reasonably priced, and you can pay by debit card inside.I did once order the madras curry sauce which was super watery so be warned! Though this may have been a fluke. We still regularly visit but leave the curry sauce out.

Wasn't always a huge fan of fish and chips as a takeaway meal...that all changed after eating them from here! Lovely thin batter on the fish and nice chunky chips. Would totally recommend :)

Best chippy in Cardiff...nice clean shoppe offering fish choices, cod haddock dory and more, different size portions and lovely hand cut chips...just add salt & malt vinegat and enjoy. Maybe add a beer or two.

Had not been to R & S for a while but fancied fish & cips for a change last Friday. We both had cod and chips. I asked for the chips to be double fried. Not a problem said the owner. Two fresh cod as well. I can honestly say that the meal was probably the best fish & chips I can ever remember having. Crisp chips, not greasy at all. The fish was in a light batter which was really dry and crispy and cooked as fresh cod should be cooked. A really very good meal. I will try it again soon but based on this experience, the best you could buy. Well done and keep it up.David Evans.

batter was too hard and crispy staff cannot take criticism they should take their customers compaints seriously after all the customer is always right will not be going there again

Nice chippy to grab a quick lunch. Food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The only thing I would say is that the food from the display cabinet could have been a bit hotter

Takes ages to get served in here but the menu is good with their homemade versions of the classic chip shop fayre.Well worth a visit.

Delivery was within 30 minutes. Ordered cod suppers. Huge portions, but not very tasty. Batter was too light. Fish itself was OK, but not outstanding or very fresh. Chips were a bit greasy and also not quite cooked.Might have been a one-off, considering the many positive reviews, but in this area, I'd rather go for the Conway's fish & chips; always first class.

I've actually only been here once (I've only recently moved to the area), but I am pleased to leave a review for what is an excellent local traditional fish and chip shop.

Readers-this is NOT a restaurant (so am unable to give "best restaurant" status) but fish & chip shop (ie, takeaway only, as most fish & chip shops). However, unlike most, fish & chips are cooked to order (not sat under heat on the counter top) so be prepared for a possible but well-worth wait. There is also a selection of curries and accompanying "sides". Staff are friendly and willing to oblige (ie, I asked for a half portion of mushy peas - no problem), fish is huge and tastes incredibly fresh and although not usually a fan of chip shop curry sauce, this too is delicious (and vegetarian - as is the gravy). A small shop with often a long queue (a good sign!), but if you 'phone (or even call in) with your order in advance, staff make sure is ready for collection. On passing, I did this, said what time I'd like food ready and then collected after meeting friends. Even after the 10-15 minute walk home, food was still hot and intact, ie, the stiil crisp batter had not stuck to the wrapper - a first in my experience! Have been there several times and never disappointed. Well done Rock & Malt! - Such a welcome addition to the Pontcanna area and well worth a visit no matter how far away you live. I just wish stayed open beyond 9.30.

Good quality fish and chips. All cooked well. The fish was really fresh and just fell apart. Large portion so easily fed both of us. Would highly recommend.

Good portions,freshly cooked,nice staff and batter which can be Gluten free if required.I often find the batter on the fish can be too thick,not so here.

Lucky enough to have a take away from here recently.Fish was very tasty and batter was crisp and left no aftertaste.Huge portion of chips which were not at all greasy.Seven of us in group and everyone enjoyed.

Recommended by a friend and had a number of good reviews here, but chips were undercooked, fish bites were incredibly chewy (kept warm on grill rather than cooked fresh) and gravy had a nice pepper flavour to it but also a slightly plastic taste. Would have returned it if we hadn't have gone so far out of our way to try it.

Have has fish and (fish-cake/sausage, curry sauce) chips here several times and they are DELICIOUS.Not only are they tasty, the portions are huge! (And that's great!), and the chips aren't greasy.Good value for money and the staff are polite and great!Keep it up!

Decided to go here one evening for a takeaway with my family and kids after reading good reviews. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting a great deal even so having been here many years ago but man I was very impressed. These really are the best chips I've had in ages, and by a VERY long way the best in Cardiff. The only slight issue was the slightly limited choice, this is traditional fish and chip fayre which was fine by me, but the kids wanted a burger. So I bought the chips here and the burger round the corner-bit of a pain but very well worth it. Next time I'll just force them to eat fish-make my life much easier!Overall, cracking. I won't bother going anywhere else next time I'm in Cardiff.

Recently moved to the area and this is our local and fish and chip shop so me and my girlfriend gave it a try; unfortunately we wont be returning.First impressions are the shop looks quite smart and there are lots of statements around about quality ingredients and fresh cooking. We ordered scampi, cod, chips and mushy peas. The food took quite a long time to prepare but to be fair they do cook the fish to order; however, what I didn't understand is that a lady who came in quite a while after us got her fish and chips before us.However, the main disappointment came when we got home and tried the food. The scampi wasn't battered but that breaded stuff you get frozen in supermarkets. It was only slightly cheaper than the cod but you only get 8 pieces and some of them were really small. When I order fish from a fish and chip shop I expect it to be battered in the shop, not a pre-prepared product which they just deep fry; so much for the statement about quality ingredients. Although the cod was a good size, it had a funny taste to it but we couldn't quite put our finger on it. The batter was also quite flat and thin. The chips were soft on the inside but started going soggy very quickly. Also when we got home we realised they had forgotten the mushy peas from our order!I would also prefer if the salt, vinegar and forks were on the counter so you can do it yourself

Lovely upmarket fish and chips takeaway. The portions are huge and everything is freshly made as you'd expect. The batter on my piece of fish was soggy which was disappointing but other than that, all good.

I live quite close to R&M so go in quite regularly for fish and chips. Their portions are very generous (large fish and chips is plenty for my partner and I) and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. They cook the fish freshly when you order it so although there's a bit of a wait, the batter is always crisp and delicious. The chips are excellent as are the curry sauces which offer a little something extra than your average chippy. Overall, R&M is a cracking little chippy - I'm already a regular and would certainly recommend it for a lovely fish supper.

Called in here rather than a take away down on the main rd. So glad I did. Had chicken Vindaloo and chips. Top notch food lovely fresh chips (worth the wait) and a Vindaloo to die for. A nice sized portion and at a cost of just £4 90. Excellent service and great value. I'm going again. Give it a go you won't be sorry.

A friend of mine said too much about rock n malt n strongly recmended to visit , so i thot lets pop in , it was very busy but they took my order when i was in the door and was served in 6 minutes , but when i taste the food i thot to myselef it was worth waiting even more than that , simply big portions of every thing n well cooked n well served , well worth ... Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had in Cardiff. A portion of fish was perfect for two people. The fish was cooked fresh and was perfect and juicy. Excellent chips. I can't recommend this place enough!

Seriously, this wasn't cod, it was a small whale.The fish is cooked fresh and is incredible. Decent chips and a nice selection of extras. One of the better fish and chip places around. Small-ish, and I wish there was an opportunity to eat in.

Came across this chippy last week and have it a try last night. Fish was massive !! Chips were fresh and tasty and curry sauce was lush. Definitely will be going back. Very clean and lovely staff, and a wide choice of food. Really good value for money

I was very happy to see that they changed the place, I went in to give it a try and I was delighted to discover that the food is now great, specially the chips. The fish is massive and very tasty. It is always full and there is always a queue in the evenings.I also love the design and style, it looks pretty outside and clean inside.

Really happy about the old "Pete's Plaice" opening as "Rock & Malt."Entirely different chippie now - seem to have done a Captain Nemo style theme which looks fresh. Staff are friendly. Food is great value for example fish portion is very big - easily feeds 2.Haven't tried the curry options but I hear they're well made. Overall a great new addition to the locality.

Really glad when this place opened up, and you can really tell that the owners care about providing something great. Great friendly service, and very efficient too. The menu is great, really varied, from British classics like fish, chips and pies etc to a variety of curry based options. Fantastic!
