Rock Cafe in Argyll & Bute

We popped in for a wee snack and weren't disappointed. The Rock Cafe is next to the Cal Mac passenger ferry in Dunoon. The place is bright, clean and welcoming. The staff are friendly and efficient. We had a bacon and egg roll and a pot of tea. The rolli was hot and tasty and we had plenty of tea. Will deffo be back again.

This is an excellent, old fashioned cafe and all the better for it. My friend had a really big monster breakfast( see pic) .It cost £12 but was amazing. I had a much cheaper regular breakfast both came with toast and your choice of tea or coffee Atmosphere is very comfy/cosy. Most ables with good views out to clyde estuary. Our waitress was a lovely, helpful girl. Nothing was too much trouble. A great place to hit if ,like us, you are just off the boat from Hunters Quay. Only slight problem is restricted parking with only a 1 hour stay. Service is great, so you only have to eat a little quickly 🤗😂😂

The Rock Café is our favourite eating spot in Dunoon, especially for a breakfast. A small breakfast has Lorne sausage, bacon, egg, slice of toast & tattie scone, which hits the spot nicely, where there is a range of other items that you can add. The latte is always a nice strength, and temperature too. The staff are mainly in their 20’s, work hard , very well mannered, helpful & talkative, where it’s always service with a smile. Since the change of management a year ago, we miss, the old Rock, but we also love the food, staff, cleanliness & atmosphere of the new. Definitely recommend, with reasonable prices too.

It's always fantastic. Milkshakes are my fav there are plenty of flavour choices and come with or without whipped cream on top. Very good pricing and nice place to sit and chill.

Went this morning whilst visiting Dunoon area for the day. It was so good we came back for main meal later in day. A MUST visit cafe if in the area. Amazed that they only took over earlier in year. Spot on. The James, Plymouth

Loved the milkshake but a little disappointed in the bubble tea. Cash only on my visit due to machine fault but not the end of the world.

Into the cafe after our visit to Highland Mary. Lucky to get in as arrived just as a family was leaving. The server said that it had been non stop all day. Good sign! Thoroughly enjoyed our scrambled egg and toast with lattes. Made our visit to Dunoon that wee bit special.

Mum and I had a gorgeous breakfast on Tuesday.i had breakfast from Wednesday till today with my sister what can I say if you want a gorgeous breakfast for a truly reasonably price go here the staff are so beautiful all of them friendly, helpful nothing to much bother this is everything you would want and hope to get well done Rock Cafe Dunoon you have got everything right keep doing what you do hank you do much

A small place but good service. The kids here do an amazing job. Visited on a weekend. Busy. We had fish and chips -10£ batter was too thick but acceptable. Jacket potato - tuna -6£ ok. Cheese chips 3.5£ Americano - basically drip coffee 3.5£ Scone plain 3.5£ Strawberry shake 3.5£

A lovely cafe adjacent to the ferry terminal and with a small carpark which leads to an accessible entrance. Good well priced menu, the restruant has good views of the Clyde and offers excellent service and attentive staff. The very clean toilets are accessed by one step entrance. Good food, good access and good welcoming staff.

Good to see it 're opened. Full breakfast highly recommended. Plenty of outside seating. Take away hatch often has a queue proving how popular it is.

Dropped in for breakfast before the ferry to Gourock. Food was amazing. Very nice staff and peaceful atmosphere.

Very nice cafe selling the usual cafe fare. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered lattes, which were well made. The servers were polite, prompt, and well presented.

Owners have retired and the venue us now up for sale. It's a prime location and if The Dunoon Project takes off this place could be a real opportunity for someone.

I used to love going here for their lovely thick milkshakes. The last 3 I have had have been a let down. I put it down to different staff making them! But they all seem the same. The milk shakes are not very cold at all, it is as if they are leaving the milk sitting out of the fridge and they are not as thick as they used to be, I have found then to be very thin and watery looking! It is as if they have cut down on the amount of ice cream they put in them now. Food is still very nice but milkshakes are just like watery flavoured milk

Ordered the Haddock and Fries . It came really quickly . Turns out why? The fish was raw!!! . My wife complained and said not to replace it . We sat for a moment in shock . No one appeared from the kitchen to apologise . We got up to leave told the staff behind the counter that we were going and obviously not paying . They just looked at us and said nothing as we walked out . Hell will freeze over before we go near this place .

Had a lovely lunch here on a day trip to Dunoon. Menu is basic but was perfect for a quick lunch stop. Staff were friendly, food was tasty, place was spotless, and all at great value for money. And with the bonus of a gorgeous view looking out to sea. Perfect!

Stopped in for wee treat after playing crazy golf after my parents stopped in earlier on and was not disappointed with cakes and hot drinks, both children got drink and ice cream. We stopped in towards end of day but did not feel like a nuisance and were going to allow us to sit at the 2 x 2 seat tables before a couple of ladies got up to make way for us after being swiftly sanitised. Reasonably priced and the hot meals being served around us smelled amazing. Decided when popped back into Dunoon later on in week that we would have lunch and so glad we did - the chips were main reason for coming back and so glad we did. Will more than likely stop here again if ever in Dunoon.

Brilliant little place. Right in the heart of Dunoon. Great prices and tasty food. We always get rolls on ham or sausage and a portion of chips. they also kindly chop up a sausage for our dogs too! so friendly and clean. Toilets always immaculate.

What a brilliant little cafe in a great location. I was on holiday in the area and was looking for a cafe. Found this gem on the seafront. Very friendly welcome from the two ladies working there. Great cakes, coffee, tea & milkshakes. A fantastic view over the sea and the ferry arriving and leaving. And the place was completely spotless. Incredibly clean from top to bottom. I’d cheerfully visit this place again & again if I return to the area.

Traditional Scottish Cafe overlooking the water, Full Scottish menu freshly made to order. Spotlessly clean with tables well spaced for Covid and generous provision of sanitisers etc. The two ladies running the business are doing a great job in these difficult times They also have kiosk service if you do not feel like a sit down!

Whilst doing contract work in Dunoon, needed a local decent cafe for breakfast. The Rock Cafe was just the ticket. Food & service excellent at reasonable price. Tried a few local eating places, but this one was best all round for rest of week and on return the following week. Recommend (-:

30 mins waiting for a roll and chips to take away, certainly not fast by any stretch of the imagination. The 6 staff behind the counter must have been struggling to cope.If I had thought quicker I could have caught the western ferry and went to Macdonald's.

Popped in for a square sausage sandwich while waiting for the ferry, and enjoyed it so much I went back for another. The sausage was lovely and crisp. Service was quick and friendly. Bit of a tight squeeze waiting for the food with people needing to pass me, but I didn't have to wait long, and the hot sandwiches were most welcome on a cold day.

Was working very close weather changed for the worse so decided to have a late breakfast and i'm glad we did found the Rock Cafe very pleasant clean and staff warming. we ordered 2 breakfast and was very happy everything was cooked well

The waitress messed up my order and said it was my fault for not noticing straight away she was very rude. I have been going there now again for 30+ years never again.

We only had a cup of coffee but the waitress took a considerable time when preparing it, ensuring that the that the milk was frothy on top. This was impressive as many places merely pour the milk and leave you to get on with it. Very convenient next to the pier.

Four of us visited for a breakfast but will never return to this place again. I would also recommend anyone else not to eat here.We all went off the big breakfast Which included the cheapest sausage possible a hash brown dripping in fat and potato scone two rashers of bacon and toast.It’s was a total let down.It’s really not hard to cook a decent breakfast to encourage returning customers Would be better if the food was of better quality

Well on holiday in Dunoon we just fancied some chips so we stopped here.. very small cafe and very busy on a sunny day.. but the chips are definitely worth the wait.. clean and tidy, staff friendly..

Dunoon is a great place but it would be nice if there was somewhere to get a decent coffee. The rock cafe is in a prime place close to the ferry pier. Noticed that had an expresso machine and so went in for a takeaway coffee. Asked for a strong cafe latte and ordinary latte. The person serving proceeded to fill two cups from a filter coffee jug poured more filter coffee into one cup than the other and topped them up with frothed milk from the expresso machine which was boiling. I didn’t believe what I was seeing. Needless to say they tasted disgusting. On the up side they were only £1.50 each but really wouldn’t have minded paying a bit more for something drinkable. Now maybe the expresso bit of the coffee machine was not working but no apology was offered. If you are going to go to the expense of buying a commercial expresso machine at least train the staff to use it properly and ideally with some decent coffee. People are prepared to pay for quality.

Nice, clean convenient place but prices too high, overooking clyde and ferry boats. Pier and car parking nearby.

If you are looking for a place to splurge this isn’t it, but if you are looking for small, quick eats and a cup of tea, this cafe is great. It’s got a great view and the perfect spot to start or end your journey once you come off the ferry.

This is a small cafe at one of the ferry terminals. You can sit in or take away, very cramped at the door and counter as they have the drinks fridges right at the front door and very awkward to get in and out which is a pity. Food was ok and prices reasonable, staff weren’t overly friendly, took my order and no other dialogue of any kind

On a day trip to Dunoon came across this café down by the Ferry Terminal. Excellent food & coffee, very clean & tidy, friendly efficient staff, good service, good value , with beautiful views of the Loch,

Breakfast was average due to the quality of the bacon and sausages. The latter were the worst I've ever eaten. the service is good, the staff are great, but basic food as on menu needs to just improve in quality. Great views and otherwise a nice place to meet for a cuppa.

This is a small unpretentious cafe serving good portions of well cooked food . All very clean & great value too . We had a generous pile of scrambled egg with two slices of buttered toast & a mug of nice coffee for £5.40 . Service was good & the sparkling loch all around was beautiful , with a handy car park nearby

This is an amazing cafe. The food Is absolutely delicious. My chips were really good too. The staff are really nice because we needed to hurry up to get the ferry Back to Gourock.

Small cafe, and will do you something to eat casually for a lunch. Good view. Still use plastic straws. Do a good Mr Whippy ice cream.

The food was promptly if rather casually served and would not suit a gourmet but was OK of its kind - hot - reasonably generous on the chips. OK for fuelling up if you are waiting for a ferry.

Twice I was in here , Plenty staff not so many customers but they seemed to busy to bother , plenty other places nearby, wont attempt to go in again. Obviously solo customers aren't so important.

Nice cafe for coffee and a snack. Two of us had a dish of ice cream as we felt it was too hot for coffee. Prices very reasonable and staff friendly.

Just off the ferry and in need of some light sustenance this was certainly very handy as adjacent to the terminal. The coffee and warm scones were first class and the service friendly.

I first visited The Rock Café approx. 55 years ago when staying with grandparents. It still has a cosy atmosphere and provides great snacks and drinks. Glad to see that they still had 'Hot Orange' on the menu - that brought back happy memories - keep up the good work.

Right by the ferry terminal they have a captive audience I suppose and have obviously become complacent. The "Big Breakfast" was just, well..small. One egg, one sausage, one rasher of bacon? No beans or tomatoes or mushrooms? What's big about it? There was no veggie breakfast on the menu at all and when asked what alternative there was to sausages and bacon, the answer was "nothing". So my friend and I ordered eggs, hash browns, beans and tomatoes and ended up paying more than £10 each! This was almost double the cost of the "big" breakfast which was £6.40. So, penalised for not eating meat. There was no alternative to dairy milk either so we had to have black coffee. Very disappointing indeed. They only get two stars because the waitress was so sweet.

Lovely freshly cooked food but a bit disappointed that the "big breakfast" didn't come with beans or tomatoes. Also to call it big is a bit misleading as 1 sausage 1 egg 1 hash brown a piece of potato cake 2 bacon and 2 rounds of toast is not what I would call big.

After a brisk walk along the front it was nice to sit down and and have a very much needed coffee with a home made cake. They have a very good menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner also.

We stopped by for an ice cream, a very busy place. The service was good and price reasonable. The ice cream can do with some cream.

Cuando llegamos paramos por fuera del ferry antes de volver al hotel. Tenía grandes tazas de té y pasteles deliciosos. Servicio amable. Muy limpio. Lo recomiendo.

Unbelievable waiting times for food, doesn't matter how many people are in you are always waiting 30 plus minutes once you have ordered, not sure they know the meaning of fast food and the prices are extortionate considering the quality.

I live in Italy and during my visit in Dunoon have stopped for breakfast in this Caffè. It is just lovely. Beautiful view over the water, the owners are kind and the breakfast was very good! I do suggest a stop there and will be going back when I visit again.

we went there while waiting for the ferry clean friendly staff very welcoming it was eaerly in the morning and quite cold so it was nice to go somewhere that was welcoming so near to the ferry port we would definately go there again the whole week at dunoon was great the ferry trip over and back too was nice it was september so it wasnt too busy there but as we said its nice to have somewhere warm and cosy to wait until our next mode of transport was ready

The cafe is in a great location, on rocks at the water's edge. It has a varied no-frills menu, pleasant staff and good food and is very good value. I had the soup, which was home-made and excellent. Scones looked good too.

I visited the Rock cafe with my Aunt and uncle today! Worst scone I have ever tasted, was more like a brick! My uncle had a toastie which was also pretty poor! Tea was nice although cracked cups spoiled it! Attitude of staff was also shocking, grumpy when we decided to move inside from outdoors due to rain coming on and rude when I asked if there was a toilet! Cafe next door much better service and lovely cakes although doesn't look as appealing from outside! Will NEVER be back - shame as lovely location!
